Turn order
Use common sense--Post when given an opportunity, don't flood other active members out of participation, and don't create plot holes in the time flow of a thread. |
Even though this is a "turn-based" text RP, we don't really adhere to a specific turn order. The general idea is that, during a thread, players will post to act and react to one another as needed. So, especially when there's something your character needs to react to, please post! Just be cautious not to completely flood out or leave behind other players who may also need to react to something your character reacted to. When in doubt, ask! A quick IM asking "Are you posting?" only takes a few seconds, and may also get somebody who needs to be posting off his or her butt. (Don't hesitate to do this to admins, too. We get slow sometimes just like anybody else.)
Lastly, please try not to mess with the order of events in a thread. If you missed out on a big chunk of the action, it's best to just move on, rather than try to time-travel back and post your character reacting to/replying to/commenting on every little thing that already passed by. Anything that will directly contradict or alter the flow of time in other people's posts made before your own should be done with extreme caution, or mods may have to delete your post to avoid plot holes or keep things from getting confusing.
Need an example? Look below.
EXAMPLE:
Player 1's character is fighting with Player 2's character. Player 3's character is standing nearby.
1 makes a post in which he attacks 2.
3 makes a post in which his character jumps in the way of 1's attack.
2 posts and acknowledges that 3 got in the way of their fighting.
1 keeps attacking, and ignores 3's interruption until after he's already gotten a few hits in on 2 without explaining why or how.
This is bad. Please avoid altering the timing of other people's posts. In the above example, "player 3" clearly meant for his or her action to prevent harm from coming to "player 2's" character, but "player 1" bent the flow of time so that it'd be more convenient for him- or herself.
This applies universally, whether it's in combat, conversation, or just general events in the story. This sort of thing can easily happen accidentally, especially if you don't notice another player's post, so take care to read everything before you make your own posts, and you'll probably be okay. This is a reading-intensive hobby, so be prepared to read lots!
