The timeline of our RP.

Before our story

Events before our story's first year

We built the world of our RP roughly off the world established by the core Sonic the Hedgehog games, and the events that unfolded in those games.

The history of the Sonic the Hedgehog series is one that seems very long to players. The games have been going continuously since 1991 in real life. However, Sonic has always been a teenager, and probably always will be. We don't have any desire to excessively age the characters in this group, so we assume (reasonably, we think) that the events of the entire Sonic series took place over a very short span of time.

So, in our story, we act as though Dr. Eggman's robotic armies are a relatively new threat that only cropped up in the past few years, if that. In the original JP manual for Sonic 1, it is established that Sonic and Eggman have been rivals for quite a while, but the whole "turn everyone into robots" scheme is brand new. So, while Eggman may or may not have been around for a long time as some sort of dangerous crook or madman, he hasn't always been the threat he is now. As far as the general public knows, he rediscovered the Chaos Emeralds and only started causing real trouble a few years ago, and everyone in the world is still adjusting to his insane antics.

It is unclear precisely how long ago Sonic began fighting Eggman. Sonic's official age was originally somewhere around 16, but the most recent info declares that he is 15. So that we can have some sort of consistency, we have taken the liberty of assuming Sonic began his adventurous escapades when he was a preteen, and now, in our story, he is likely nearing 16 years of age.

What are the implications of this for you as an RPer? Simple, but maybe surprising: Everything in Sonic history is very recent. The events of Sonic Adventure (both 1 and 2) took place just months ago in our story. Station Square is still in ruin, and the Eclipse Cannon incident is still fresh in everyone's memory.

Bear this kind of thing in mind as you play out anything that references the history of the games!
