Name Lazarus "Rock" Lochert
Species Monkey
Age 20
Height 130 cm
Weight 50 kg
Special abilities & skills
  • Prodigious learner talented at "feeling" his way through things and picking up skills on the fly (monkey see, monkey do, literally)
  • Trained military astronaut and pilot
  • Seasoned brawler (seems to employ some mixture of boxing, krav maga, and sparse "tricking" acrobatics in combat)
Unique ability

Intuition/perception—his situational awareness, attention to minute detail, and reaction time are virtually unrivaled, making him highly adaptive, especially under pressure.

Carried items
  • Weighted-knuckle-and-palm synthetic gloves
  • EVA Magboots (Durable, heavily-reinforced boots with magnetic arch plates)
  • An ever-changing inventory of various tools and weapons (see "equipment" section below)
Ability Ratings
Agility

6.5star.png
Capable of speeds somewhere just over 90MPH. Good at climbing rapidly wherever there's a handhold, about as modestly acrobatic as a decent freerunner, a relatively fast swimmer, and almost capable of reaching his full running speed in a few strides.

Strength

7star.png
With a sturdy build and strong arms, he's an effective lifter and disproportionately powerful puncher with staggering hand grip strength, but still a far cry from any true "super strength."

Toughness

7.5star.png
Sturdy and muscular, diamond-chinned, and an experienced fighter who is more than a little toughened up by his rough-and-tumble lifestyle, Rock is good at protecting himself, and can wield chaos energy effectively.

Energy

7star.png
Long-distance sprinting isn't his schtick, but his stamina is otherwise good, and he has an abnormally high level of latent chaos energy that seems to do well to help him heal and recover from his painful misadventures.

General Info

Let's get a few things clear off the bat: Rock is a glorified shirtless space marine with a plasma knife and the apparent knowledge to operate nearly anything that can kill a man. He likes motorcycles and the smell of gun oil. He has two known facial expressions: blank and angry. He long ago ran all outta gum.

That indulgence aside, he does have a sense of humor, and he does know how to have fun (and even smile!), but when he's set to a task, he becomes unwaveringly focused and doesn't tolerate unnecessary or intentional hindrance from anyone or anything. He is nothing if not a problem-solver, and it isn't uncommon for him to deem people, even the occasional ally, to be problematic. This mixture of cold objectivity and hot impulsiveness makes him seem particularly ill-suited to the kind of "heroic" causes he often gets wrapped up in, so it's natural that his goals and motives are sometimes held suspect by allies, enemies, and authorities alike. He is infamous more than famous; he is not popular or well-liked.

Rock is a truly polarizing individual in that way. He just seems to have the inherent ability to bring out both the best and the worst in those around him. He holds unshakable bonds with his closest friends, and yet he manages to create new enemies almost every day. Those who trust him believe that his actions, which often border on unethical, irresponsible, and even sociopathic, possess some rhyme or reason that just isn't readily apparent, while those on the other end of the barrel deem him power-hungry and dangerous. Suffice to say it's difficult for most anybody who has a pulse to be truly indifferent to him, for better or worse.

Background

He keeps odd company and has unusual connections. His circle of friends includes both the former UF secretary of defense and the robotic general of the Capsule Trooper Army. And though he's exceptionally accomplished for his age, little is known about his past, either, beyond his short-lived career in South Island's space program. He achieved something near celebrity status for being the first astronaut of his kind (that is to say, "non-human"), but retired suddenly and without event at the peak of his popularity just weeks after his first mission and promptly fell off the radar. He's worked an unremarkable career as an aircraft mechanic and charter pilot on and off since then, though he has been accused of involvement in pretty much everything from SecDef investigations of G.U.N., to the Eggman Empire, to even Chimera. He's most recently been touring with his girlfriend's band, though, so either his dubious reputation is at least partially unearned, or he really gets around.

Ability Info

A jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none "balanced" physical specimen, Rock is a trained soldier, seasoned brawler, and a solid all-around athlete with a good combination of speed, strength, agility, and endurance. He has no particular weak area, but nothing he excels at, either. That being said, while he will blatantly outclass almost any average Joe he may meet on the street, this is a strange world chock-full of super-speeders, heavily-armored robots, flying acrobats, and boulder-hurling brutes. Ergo, his "balance" really only ensures that he'll have an uphill battle of some sort in almost every conflict against highly specialized foes, forcing him to rely on his wits, will, and resourcefulness to apply all that he does have to the greatest possible effect.

Sharply intuitive with machine-like reflexes, situational awareness, and even true eidetic memory, his best weapon really is his mind and not his physique. Though his vision, hearing, and other senses are perfectly average, nothing happens under the jurisdiction of any of those senses that he does not in some way take note of; moving shadows, reflections from glass, distant noises, the faintest of smells, and even the reverberations and echoes of sounds bouncing off of objects in his environment are all analyzed with scrutinizing detail at a subconscious level. This belies his ability to spread his attention across many things at once, making him both an excellent pilot and combatant, not to mention a fast learner capable of picking up new skills with relatively little instruction and practice.

Equipment

Rockduffel.jpg

Rock salvages or improvises tools and weapons. He's unsentimental and very "easy come, easy go" about his equipment, breaking or losing things almost constantly, so it changes often. He uses a duffel bag while traveling to help keep track of important things (and tote dangerous things inconspicuously while in public) and carry miscellaneous utility items (like duct tape), but more often than not he just clips his most-needed equipment to his belt.

Tools & Equipment:

  • PAC/W Knife
Ultra-compact plasma arc cutter/welder on a knife grip, sandwiched between two flat, sharpened pieces of steel. It looks like a really thick, bulky, crudely-manufactured single-edged combat knife. Clearly homemade.
  • Pocket-sized multitool
Commmonplace all-in-one folding multitool, with tools such as pliers, screwdriver heads, wire snips, LED flashlight, etc. Nothing special.
  • Satellite phone
Small and rugged satellite phone. It's equipped with various connectors and sensors so it can serve as a remote uplink to Tau.
  • NanoMed applicator
Standard first-aid supply. Foaming nanotech coagulant and antiseptic that helps promote quick healing. Slimline 4" canister with very limited capacity. Rock goes through a lot of this stuff.

Weapons:

  • Weighted-knuckle-and-palm synthetic gloves
The knuckles and palms of each glove are loaded with nearly a kilogram of powdered tungsten. This lends a good deal of potential knockout power to even casual-looking open-handed swats. Gives new meaning to slapping someone silly.
  • Capsule Trooper pistol
Compact CE sidearm, standard-issue model for most Capsule Troopers. Rapid-fire semiautomatic but prone to overheating when fired continuously. Lacks any apparent power supply.
  • Concussion grenades
EA-issue with adjustable-fuze timer. A lot of "boom," but not a lot of shrapnel.

Trivia

  • Friends and allies: Jam, Caruso, Tau
  • Enemies: It's safe to say that almost anyone who is not listed above considers Rock an enemy. To be specific, though, there's Tracer, Geoff, Rodolf, Ember, Jack, Archer, Murdoch, Mako, Pax, almost anyone or anything from G.U.N. or the E.E., U.F. law enforcement, ...
  • Rivals: None. He doesn't think favorably enough of anyone he knows to consider his relationship with them "rivalrous."
  • Favorite color: Red (although you wouldn't know it with how few red things he owns)
  • Favorite food: Almost anything spicy (satay, paella, etc.), though he's really not that picky about what he eats as long as it isn't junk.
  • Likes: Motorcycles, robots (he gets along remarkably well with AIs), high places, jumping from high places, swimming, flying, music, and sleeping (which he usually doesn't get to do enough of)
  • Dislikes: Shirts. ... Besides that, he doesn't tend to like law enforcement, politicians, authoritarian people in general, or driving (cars or trucks).
  • Pet peeves: For some reason, he has a "thing" against introductions and especially hates having to introduce himself to groups. Also, people who talk a lot can get under his skin very quickly.
  • Family: Jared Lochert (father), Kara Reeve Lochert (mother)
  • Birthday: June 1st
  • Birthplace: South Island
  • Home: His mail goes to his parents' house in Spring City, but he doesn't spend much time there. He did buy a place of his own in the foothills of Pumpkin Hill, but he doesn't spend much time there, either, for obvious reasons—talk about a lemon.
  • Character themes:
  • "Boss" theme: Independence for Violence (Y3OST)
  • Other trivia:
    • Rock isn't albino, despite appearances. He just happens to be white and have a pink-colored eye.
    • Despite having one pink eye and one blue eye, there's nothing special about Rock's eyesight, either. Both see normally.
    • His tail is prehensile, but he doesn't like using it for mundane tasks. He thinks it's uncivilized (which may seem odd, considering how he's so readily uncivilized in many other ways).
    • Rock showers often. He has stark white fur. This is kind of a necessity, lest he begin to look like old gym socks.
    • He received considerable education in aerospace engineering while in the space program, specializing in electrical engineering and propulsion. He has continued his studies in his spare time.
    • Rock left the air force after finishing his contract. His rank was First Lieutenant (1stLt).
    • He did some sort of work for UF SecDef immediately after his "early-early retirement," though all ties now seem to be cut. His involvement in the Granite Island incident is no secret. [Ch.2]
    • He was also present at ground zero of the explosion that wiped out most of the town of Yellow Desert. [Ch.1]
    • Following Eggman's takeover of the world, Rock joined up with the Eggman Army, much to the chagrin to some of his friends and acquaintances. He's (obviously) no longer a member, though the damage to his reputation is done. [Ch.4]
    • He's been in and out of boxing. He started while in the military, and competed in Vince's tournament in Grand Metropolis some time ago. He was still in the running for the title before the city was flooded and the event postponed. [Ch.2]
    • Though he's impressively fit and strong, it doesn't come all that naturally to him. He works and exercises religiously to maintain his level of conditioning.
    • He got torn up pretty badly on his first and only visit to the derelict Space Colony ARK. [Ch.3b]
    • Rock once traveled all the way to Angel Island just so he could jump off of it. He did so without a parachute. He is now ineligible for any form of health insurance coverage.
    • Rock once had a little too much to drink and picked a fight with the Spring City Conquistadors baseball team for fun. The whole team. (He won.)
    • Rock once had a little too much to drink and picked a fight with the Starlight City Killer Bees hockey team for fun. (He spent a week in the hospital.)
    • Rock once had a little too much to drink and picked a fight with the Emerald Town police department. (He received two cans of pepper spray, twelve taser darts, and five hundred hours of community service.)
    • Rock doesn't really drink anymore.
