Mako appears to be some sort of cosmic chewtoy, granting him the ability to stay alive even when the universe clearly hates him, possibly because the higher powers at work[1] seem to think his suffering is hilarious. ... but no, seriously, N/A. |

Generally doesn't carry much around as a rule, but he can sometimes be seen with a nice long stick for poking things. |

General Info
Once upon a time, Mako was a happy, optimistic, goofy shark.
And then the world happened to him.
Mako knows the world hates him. He knows it with all his heart, and he is thoroughly convinced that there is a malevolent cosmic force plotting against him. Honestly, he's probably right-- if something bad happens when he's around, if it doesn't happen to a whole bunch of people, it'll probably happen to him. He just doesn't exactly get what he's done wrong to earn such universal ire-- he's a fairly decent sort, though perhaps a bit (a lot) sarcastic and a bit (a lot) of a coward.
The shark's remarkably bad luck with everything he sets hand on or foot into has made him almost comically surly and pessimistic about everything that happens to him. He's a bit of a disaster-magnet who can never catch a break, and he's woefully aware of his universal niche... so it may say something or another about him that despite all of this, he still ends up going along with and getting into things when he could very well walk away and mind his own business, and avoid further injury. Some part of him really still wants to be a good person and make a difference in the world, and even though that little voice of optimism and idealism is being crushed by the cinder blocks of everything that seems to happen to him ever, it must be pretty strong.
Even when he's hating the world and the feeling is mutual, he's curious and relatively friendly, and can usually avoid making enemies through his own actions... it just tends to come to him. All of this said, he's mostly pessimistic about the world, not the people in it. He doesn't really tend to hold grudges or get honestly mad on that regular a basis. He's nonviolent (if only because his fighting skill is lacking), preferring to solve whatever he can as peacefully as he can. He's not averse to getting involved, per se, it just takes him a while to get pushed that far. He'd rather just hide in the meantime. When he's not in imminent danger (or in the water), he tends to shine-- he just gets caught up in his emotions in the meantime.
Mako really, at heart, just wants people to leave eachother alone. He really wants the universe to leave him, specifically, alone (he's starting to wonder when his house will get hit by a meteor or similar).
Ability Info
Mako is decently athletic in the way that an average highschool athlete is-- he's overall decent, and he's hardly out of shape, but he's far, far from special, and this is only amplified by the fact that he's cripplingly clumsy on his feet. He's a poor fighter, and honestly would rather run away, so it all works out for him if he can just get away.
However, this is migitated a bit by the fact that underwater, Mako is a juggernaut, a blue torpedo, able to swim with the best of them. He just has to pray that he can drag anyone he needs to fight into water. Able to stay underwater indefinitely thanks to his gills, he's had time to perfect it. His big tail, an Achilles heel on land, is a powerful asset when he's swimming, and used in conjuction with his arms and legs, is able to propel the shark both very quickly and with great agility underwater. He's not graceful on his own, of course, and is something a flurry of moving body parts, but with the results it gives, it's hard to argue. Mako is at his best and among the best under the water-- it's just a shame it doesn't so often come in handy, and instead just make him even clumsier by comparison on dry land.
He's also willing to try anything, and as such, he's accumulated a wide variety of poorly-honed skills. Sure, he may fall off every vehicle he tries to ride, manage to whack himself in the head with a baseball bat, and electrocute himself, but you have to give him points for trying, right? ... right?

Trivia
- Incidents of Mako Misfortune:
- Was captured in a tank for an undisclosed amount of time
- For all intents and purposes, caught at near point-blank of the nigh-nuclear blast that leveled the town of Yellow Desert
- Got chased by a multitude of shark-seeking shark-torpedos
- Electrocuted by Seven in an underwater base
- Got eaten by a ghost
- Was involuntarily entered in a boxing tournament
- Became convinced that a very large girl he did not know was going to eat him
- Consumed by the giant tidal wave that engulfed a sizable portion of Westside Island
- Was shot out of a cannon, and proceeded to have his pod go loose-cannon upon arrival
- Closest friends: It kind of fluctuates, depending on who he's stuck running around with. Captain Sparkly is probably one of his closer friends, or at least on the "probably not trying to kill me" grounds.
- Worst enemies: Dr. Henshin (Mako is convinced that Henshin is out to kill him. He may or may not be right.) Also, the universe[3].
- Family: Mary Gale (mother, age 42), Eric Gale (father, age 45), Mariah 'Mimi' Gale (Age 7)
- Favorite color: Face-punchingly, obnoxiously, offensively bright orange.
- Likes: Poking stuff with sticks, anything that involves being around water, anything that can be broadly defined as "cooooool" (showy, flashy, or just plain weird), the moments in which he's useful
- Dislikes: The world, and the feeling is mutual. Also airbikes, ghosts, and very-large purple people.
- Favorite Food: Fish tacos, but if it's not green food, he's not picky.
- Birthday: May 29th
- Home: Emerald Town
- Character themes:
- Other trivia:
- Inexplicably wears, yes, a sharktooth necklace. (It's a fake tooth.)
- Entertains dreams of discovering something, "important and world-changing", he just has no idea what sort of thing that is.
- He likes to explain the tattoo on his right arm as a "big ol' traditional sharky thing", but the truth behind it is probably more akin to "it looks cool".
- Mako is terrible with remembering names.
