G.U.N. (sometimes rendered simply as GUN), also known as the Guardian Units of Nations, is an international peacekeeping organization (loosely comparable to real-world NATO, except with a centralized seat of power). GUN seems to have a large jurisdiction within which it acts, often defending the people of the world from Dr. Eggman and other high-profile threats, though it defers heavily to United Federation leadership.

We do not treat GUN as the only military in our story, but instead assume that there are still local government-operated military forces around. GUN has historically been the strongest military power in the world, however.

During and after the Eggman Empire

During Dr. Eggman's global takeover and establishment of the Eggman Empire, GUN was almost entirely dissolved, and continued only to exist as loosely-organized underground cells. Now that the Eggman Empire is no more, GUN has begun rebuilding and reforming its command structure, though it has heavy losses to contend with.

Demographic makeup

G.U.N., like the population of the United Federation, is almost entirely comprised of humans. There are some non-human sapient members, though they are few and far between, and usually serve specialist roles.

Leadership

The G.U.N. Commander is the highest-ranking officer, answering only to the President of the United Federation.

Notable members

The following are actual characters from our RP employed by G.U.N.

Major GUN bases and installations inside the UF

G.U.N. HQ

The nervecenter of GUN's global operations, located in the capital of the United Federation.

Status: Destroyed in a bombing by Cooper Coopmore and accomplices. Was being rebuilt until the Eggman Empire took over and Eggmanland was constructed over the former site. New headquarters elsewhere in Central City are under construction, while an industrial complex and numerous warehouses serve as a temporary base of operations.

Prison Island

A major naval base and military prison just offshore Central City.

Status: Destroyed in a bombing carried out by Dr. Eggman immediately prior to the Space Colony ARK drop crisis. Now reduced to little but ruin, forest, and military-industrial waste. Off-limits to the public.

Granite Island

Naval base and detention center offshore Empire City.

Status: Destroyed in a subterranean nuclear explosion triggered under mysterious circumstances. Though officially attributed to a bomb cache set off during a mass prison riot and escape, evidence was uncovered linking the incident to an internal UF DoD operation carried out by a squad led by Rock Lochert.

Silo 1

A (formerly) top-secret missile silo hidden beneath the capital.

Status: Destroyed in a subterranean nuclear explosion, similar to Granite Island. G.U.N. officials point to Chimera as the perpetrator.

Recent events

Highlights from the past year or so.

  • Prison Island is raided by Dr. Eggman, and Project Shadow is stolen.
  • G.U.N. mistakenly apprehends Sonic the Hedgehog after mistaking him for Shadow.
  • Prison Island is raided again, this time by both Dr. Eggman and Sonic's friends. Sonic escapes, several Chaos Emeralds are stolen, and Prison Island is destroyed.
  • Space Colony ARK and the Eclipse Cannon are hijacked by Dr. Eggman. G.U.N. had previously shut down the ARK, but security measures were insufficient.
  • The massacre of the Project Shadow research team, framing of Gerald Robotnik, and murder of Maria Robotnik is exposed by Agent Rouge following a world-threatening disaster involving other remnants of Project Shadow and the stolen Chaos Emeralds.
  • G.U.N. HQ in Central City is severely damaged by Cooper "Coop" Coopmore, Tracey "Tracer" Starr, and Archer the Buck. Subterranean facility and tunnel networks damaged beyond repair.
  • Granite Island facility comes under investigation by the Secretary of Defense, who sends in a team led by Lazarus "Rock" Lochert.
  • Granite Island facility and neighboring Arware-Mistar laboratories are destroyed. Multiple conspiracies are exposed, including biological weapon experimentation and the purchase and resale of Eggman Industries goods to G.U.N. by Arware-Mistar.
  • G.U.N. works side-by-side with Sonic the Hedgehog and friends to fight back against invading extra-terrestrial forces (on no fewer than two occasions).
  • The "Marauder" invasion begins, and is repelled, but the United Federation is conquered by the Eggman Empire immediately after. G.U.N. continues to exist and operate only in the form of hidden cells.
  • The Eggman Empire is defeated, and old political powers are restored. G.U.N. begins reorganizing and rebuilding, while Chimera remains in control of former Eggman Empire assets.
  • Former Eggman Empire robots and warships begin to be recaptured by Dr. Eggman. G.U.N. anticipates the eventual recapture of the Egg Destroyer, a colossal warship in orbit, and orders its immediate destruction.
  • Chimera refuses and G.U.N. sets into motion a plan to launch a nuclear assault to prevent the ship from falling back into Eggman's hands. Silo 1 is destroyed by Chimera just hours before launch.
