Emerald Radar

Emerald Radars are devices used to detect the unique radiation emitted by the Chaos Emeralds. The technology is uncommonly produced, and not easy to come across without good money, luck, or connections.

The accuracy of different emerald radar devices varies with quality. In general, due to the nature of the emeralds' radiation, no such detector is pinpoint precise until within reasonably close range. Outside of a few hundred yards, the best a good emerald radar can do is point its user in the correct general direction, and estimate proximity. (In other words, like hide-and-seek, it can basically tell the user if he's getting warmer or colder, but not precisely locate the gem.)

Sources of Chaos Energy other than Chaos Emeralds may interfere with emerald radars. These include Chaos Drives, other synthetic sources of CE, and even some people, though the latter is very rare.
