Sonic Spindash RP is closed.

Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.

It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

What is your character's name?
> Soren “Nix” Kitley

Species?
> Fox

Age?
> 17

Give us a few paragraphs of general info about your character. For example, what's the character's personality like? What kind of things does he or she do? Why does he or she do it? (Please don't give us your character's point-by-point life history, though.)
> A one-track mind if there ever was one, but that track’s got more than enough twists and turns to keep the ride interesting. Nix is a straightforward person with a kind heart and a wholehearted belief that you regret the things you don’t do more than the things you do. Life is for living as far as he’s concerned; to that end, whether for complete strangers, close companions or the hell of it, the fox is almost alarmingly willing to throw himself headfirst into any number of sticky situations, a tendency juxtaposed by a resourceful and observant nature such antics might belie. Nix makes a point of looking after he leaps, counting on intuition and a fair bit of luck to get him out of jams, and the policy hasn’t let him down yet.

Easygoing and easy to get along with, Nix is an infectiously cheerful guy, if immature and excitable at times. When he’s not getting himself into trouble he makes a living as a courier, the founder and sole member of Kitley Express. Slogan, “We can take anything, anywhere”, and one he makes a point of living up to, the United Federation, South Island, and even Westside Island all places he regularly makes deliveries to. Adventurous at heart and relentlessly optimistic, Nix values freedom above all else, and is eager to fill the pages of his own personal story with as many unique experiences and anecdotes as possible. If nothing else a day spent with him is a day that won’t soon be forgotten.

Does your character have any skills or special abilities, a gimmick, or anything that makes it stand out as an athlete or fighter? If so, talk a little about it here. Be sure to include an explanation or origin story for anything unusual, extraordinary, or supernatural.
> Even as a child Nix had a fascination with heights and the climbing thereof, risking life and limb more times than his parents could count. Most of these times ended in bruises, broken bones and pain, but the countless practice honed the fox’s athletic skills, and over the years he’s nurtured a remarkable talent and love for traversing most any environment in record time. The fox has an impressive breadth of skills in his quiver that, along with quick reflexes and a great sense of balance, help him get from point A to point B in the quickest manner possible.

Nix’s favorite mode of transportation is his own two feet, but being in the deliveries business necessitates a little branching out to stay competitive. If it’s got wheels, Nix can probably drive it. Cars, bikes, jeeps, even Extreme Gear skates if the situation calls for it. Getting them to their destination in one piece though, well… that’s another story.

Even without formal fighting training Nix has no shortage of informal fighting experience, having taken part in enough street-fights to pick up a few things. Basic elements of Capoiera can be seen in his style, emphasizing disorienting blows, constant movement, and dodging rather than blocking. In addition, the fox has a latent store of chaotic power that occasionally layers his hits to give them an extra kick. The ability would be much more helpful if he had any control over it, but it’s completely out of his hands so to speak, and the store of power is unavailable to him otherwise.

Does your character have any purpose? (It's okay if you don't have this fully figured out yet, but all the better if your character does have an agenda or some sort of driving force to it to make it interact with other characters.)
> Nix’s main aspiration is to have as many unique experiences and encounters as possible, to make his life inarguably memorable. And if all goes well, one day he hopes to “touch the sky”. What exactly that means, nobody knows, and he couldn’t tell you if you asked, but he insists he’ll know once he’s done it.

Does your character have an image? You can post it here, if so (as long as you follow the rules mentioned in the character guidelines). If not, please write a description of your character's appearance.
> Standing at 108 centimeters and weighing in at about 29 pounds the maroon fox is a fairly athletic figure, lithe but not too wiry. His muzzle is a light beige hue, and his eyes are bright yellow, ever hopeful. More often than not Nix can be found in an open light gray short-sleeved jacket with a loose pair of navy-blue cargo jeans, along with a pair of primarily black running shoes with white designs. A black and red single strap bag is slung over his shoulders to carry foodstuffs, essentials, and the odd delivery, and his gloves are fingerless for an extra iota of freedom and grip in his movements. A set of yellow photochromic sunglasses hang around his neck to complete the ensemble.

Will you be around to play your character regularly? (i.e. Keeping daily tabs on any threads you involve yourself in, and posting whenever it's your turn?)
> Yeah, I should be able to keep pace barring any unforeseen circumstances, and if one of those pops up I’ll do my best to let you guys know.

Do you live in or near the Americas, or elsewhere? (It may be difficult for you to participate in any of the fast-moving sessions if you're only online when the rest of the group is asleep, so we ask this just to be aware of any potential problems.)
> New York born and raised, so no problems there.

Are you okay with having your character information and image on this website (such as on the wiki)?
> If you guys are okay with it I sure as hell am.

What is your name? (This question isn't optional. We need something to call you by that isn't your character's name nor some obnoxiously long username. Don't post your last name, though! This forum isn't private.)
> The name’s Robert, Rob for short. Raz works too.

Thanks for any critique in advance, and your time.

Let's get this thing started.

Quote:
Species?
> Fox

The original character guidelines wrote:
• Hedgehogs and foxes are discouraged. They're seriously overused. (Also, we have limits in place to avoid oversaturation of any particular species, so we may soon refuse them altogether.)
[...]
• If you submit a hedgehog, fox, or echidna, there will be higher expectations placed upon it for originality and overall quality. Do your best. Consider using a different species if at all possible.

Just making sure you're aware of this note from the rules as we move forward with this review. Hardass factor X3 engaged. Anyway, that said...

The personality information is pretty inoffensive, but also very run-of-the-mill. He sounds flawlessly, idealistically (generically?) optimistic and fun-loving. Honestly, I do prefer to see this in a submission over the brooding and gloomy alternative that is so utterly common in fancharacter-dom, but I hope that you make some effort to prevent it from coming across as two-dimensional as you play the character and develop it more

Abilities seem like an average free-runner character with no noteworthy gimmick or unique feature. Again, "inoffensive" is the most flattery I can offer. It's a Sonic RP, Sonic characters are generally fast and agile, yeah—it works. Just one thing trips a low-level alarm, though.

To what degree do you intend for him to have some sort of mysterious chaos energy powers? It is a Sonic RP, we have'em all over the place, and we're totally cool with'em, but brand new members do have some responsibility to toe the line with mysterious superpowers until they've proven themselves fair and competent RPers. Define the true, latent extent of these powers (either here or via PM for privacy, your choice), and we'll see where it stands.

Minor nitpick, but, this would actually indicate that he weighs only a couple pounds more than a 70 cm, 6-year-old girl (Cream the Rabbit, for reference). Did you mean 29 kg?

I'm ready to stamp this accepted and ship you off to the wiki stage right now, really, and if it was anything other than a fox, I probably would have already. But before I do, I'd like to see the clarification on his hidden superpower business first.

Basically the store is of a negative chaotic energy, that kind that nulls any reaction when it meets traditional, positive chaos energy. Later on, by channeling the stuff through his hands Nix'll be able to nullify chaos energy, within limits. If an blast or the like has a much bigger area of effect then his hand he can't do much about it. Of course this is all conjecture, said store remaining latent unless/until Nix is exposed to some kind of large burst or reaction of chaos energy. Hopefully by then I'll have shown I'm competent enough to handle such a thing.

I... Oh god yes kg. I meant kg. 29 kg.

Alright, so we're goin' into some of the deeper, darker corners of the fiction and fanon, here. The only clear illustration the series has given us of "negative" chaos energy was from Chaos himself in Sonic Adventure. The principle laid down was that emotion and intent dictated its use; Perfect Chaos only used the so-called negative energy and left all the positive energy because of his rage, sadness, sorrow, etc., while Sonic was able to focus and use the leftover positive energy because of his intentions, the good will of his friends around him, and all that other fuzzy-squishy feel-good stuff.

So, if you're going to venture into the technical-sounding fanon of positive-and-negative chaos energy interaction and nullification, you're going to have to thematically reconcile this chipper, upbeat character with the apparent need for some kind of "inner darkness" in order for him to be some sort of walking pool of dark, negative energy.

Ostensibly he goes around getting into trouble for other people out of a sense of goodness and all that fuzzy-squishy feel-good stuff, but really its more to gratify his thrill-seeking tendencies. Doing good things for bad reasons, as it were. Cheerful or not he's a hedonist below it all and more concerned about his next high then other people, something he rationalizes with the aforementioned "good things for bad reasons" attitude. Not quite "inner darkness", but he's not as squeaky clean as he looks.

I'll see what the other mods think about this and get back to you. My gut twists a bit at the notion of some happy-go-lucky fox fancharacter whose secret nega-energy powers are enabled by his hidden hedonism. I know it sounds kinda jerky put that way, but it's just how it sounds to me, and we're really careful about what we accept when people simply have to make their characters the same species as official characters. Nonetheless, I want to be fair, so check back later.

Alright. The consensus is that the explanation/motivation for why he has this power is a little on the weak side, so the natural thing to do is just assume that the power itself is similarly, appropriately weak for now. Simple enough.
