It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

See the current thread discussion. Once we get some opinions and responses in there, this thread will receive an actual opening post.

And here we go.

Despite being called a ballroom, there wasn't much about the place that seemed traditional or stuffy. The enormous, auditorium-like room had a feeling caught between something art deco, and something very modern, as the ceiling towered overhead, vanishing into darkness above, and the deliberately low, bluish-colored lighting restricted and focused everyone's view on the silhouetted audience and the still-dim stage. Along the walls, support beams running up to the huge ceiling were covered in long, stretching ribs of soft blue and purplish lights that added to the generally chic, city-wise appeal of the room. Similarly, skinny, towering windows ran up the back of the room, somewhere behind the stage, partially draped on each side by impossibly long, dark, wine-colored curtains. On the ground level, a sea of pretty typical seats, movable and stackable rather than fixed in place (as it was still a ballroom), covered almost the entirety of the huge, glossy black floor, and, rather surprisingly, the majority of them were filled. Along the back and sides of the rooms were seat-filled, stadium-like balconies on no fewer than three separate floors, and even those were pretty well occupied.

The band was not popular or well known. The fact that they could secure a venue that size and fill it had a fishy scent to it. It could have had to do with the pricing, though; the party found that the tickets were pretty dang cheap. And, if not that, there were the million or so flyers around town.

The cavernous room would have echoed a great deal, but it was hard to hear much of anything over all the chattering people and the recorded music track, ambient in the background. The stage was still empty, save for instruments—a sizable drum kit, several electric guitars, a bass, and a rather indulgent command center of keyboards and synths (with a bright, red keytar parked nearby for good measure). It seemed the band must have still been backstage. The concert wasn't set to begin for another few minutes.

Of course, there was at least a couple attendees who held other pursuits besides nagging curiosity of the new band. The hedgehog of the group, in fact, held no care for the upcoming show and had found the cost of the ticket merely an annoying barrier that he was forced to comply with. As much as he would love to enjoy some recreational activity, this was all postponed business for him, and it showed. There was an impatient rush to his every move, alert-looking eyes jumping to and fro so hastily that they nearly looked paranoid. It might have been a holder for musical activity for the rest, but the ballroom was starting to feel more and more like unwelcoming territory for him; a darkened dome where anything could get the drop on him.

Yet, hesitation still was absent in Geoff. Things just seemed to be coming together, first by finding Ace and then the sudden close proximity of a shared adversary, like some invisible checklist gradually being marked off. Maybe it was some sort of confidence in fate itself that was brewing inside the hedgehog, but, even knowing he didn't have a damn clue what he was going to do when the time came, he was fully secured with his decision.

Geoff began to walk forward now, at least trying to carry himself naturally down the ground floor aisle. He was a bit too preoccupied to bother glancing back to see who was bothering to follow, but it was only a few more steps before he came to a slow halt. His stare had landed on a double set of doors off against one of the far walls, barely noticeable in the dim lighting of the room. Only then did he throw a comment over his shoulder, thankful for the pre-show music to drown him out from any other nearby listeners.

"I see a door near the stage. Seems like the only way back there," he said with his own goals in mind, already striding forward again. It appeared he wasn't open to objections.

Assumed a bit of the setting there, so if changes are needed, I can always edit later.

Beyond those double doors lay yet more doors nestled in further doors, heralding surprisingly more doors, all interconnected by — you'll never guess. Large bundles of cables ran to and fro for no readily identifiable purpose, while black-shirted stage hands tapped mics, pointed remotes at various things, tested levels, and bustled about in an organized chaos.

The atmosphere was palpably frenetic, and most everyone was showing it in their own way...

"I don't think I've ever seen you stare at your reflection this long," observed an acid green monkey somewhere within the labyrinth. "Lacey'd be real proud."

He was young -- Easily half the age of the other primate in the room, and sported a lovingly gelled mullet, along with pair of sweatbands on each wrist, and not much else, save his impish grin as rocked restlessly upon a barstool that separated his feet from the ground by at least three-quarters of his height.

"Shut it, Boogie," replied Jam without any real effort or conviction as she continued to leer into her dressing room mirror looking two shades shy of sick. "Or I'll do... something."

"You know, something... generally unpleasant. For you."

"Oh, no! My one weakness--!" The youth clutched his heart dramatically, very nearly falling off his perch before deadpanning with a wave of his hand.

"You're fish in a barrel, Laylee. No fun at all right now -- What're you getting so worked up for? S'just like any other show we've ever done, only with like... a thousand times the turnout."

He paused to squint.

"Are you actually putting more make-up on yer eyes?"

"Not 'more,'" corrected the redder of the primates, shortly and just a little sheepishly, screwing the cap back on a tube of mascara as she turned in her seat to offer a crass glance. "'Some.' Did I mention there could be pain?"

Boogie twiddled the fingers of both hands in the air, ala "I'm so scared" sentiments, and rolled his eyes.

"Whatever," he shrugged boredly, hopping off his stool, strolling casually to the door. "I'm just sayin', if there's that big a call to impress, y'might've done better t'wear the poster pants."

Wheeling about in a blur, Jam managed to look simultaneously mortified and affronted.

"Yeah, well! You might've done better to-- ... Shut up."

As soon as the group had entered the ballroom, Tyra had split from them and wandered off to her seat without a word. Her disinterest in the rest of the group's main focus was obvious to anyone who merely looked at her; she still had her own troubles weighing on her mind. The wolverine only wanted to kick back in her seat and wait along with the other concert-goers, and anyone else in the group who wanted to do the same.

After taking a few steps towards the door, Geoff would find a gray dog quickly stepping in front of him, blocking his path with a stern expression. "Remind me, what exactly are you hoping to accomplish?" Pax asked, crossing his arms. It was clear that he wasn't going to budge until he got an answer out of the hedgehog.

Geoff was impatient, tense, and all other sorts of wound up... so it came to no surprise when he drilled a sharp glare right into Pax that signaled a full intention just to push by. The hedgehog managed to catch himself, however. Causing a scene in the middle of a Chimera-funded concert with a G.U.N. agent of all people wouldn't make him anymore discreet.

"'Cause this deals with the friggin' leader of Chimera," he whispered harshly. "Something I thought you would probably be interested in."

"I am interested. I'm also interested in not wandering around like a damn idiot and getting caught," the agent harshly whispered back. "I'm saying that we need at least some kind of plan before we start sneaking around. I know what I'm going to do, but what are you going to do? This could be a very dangerous situation. What are you going to do, what?" Pax's eyes occasionally darted to random corners of the room, checking to make sure no one was spying on them, but all he could see was preoccupied people waiting for the show to start.

"I'm just saying we shouldn't rush this sort of thing. Tends to end badly, with running around and doors getting kicked down and gunfire--we need at least a vague idea of a plan here."

Jack had walked in with the others, she didn't rush anywhere, she walked in a slow meander, looking around as she did. There where a lot of people here, much more then she'd have thought given she'd never heard of this band before.

"There's alotta people in here that could get hurt, if we do this wrong." She pointed out as she came up behind the pair, now however she was looking at the stage, pausing behind Geoff with her hands in her pockets. Jacks expression was serious, almost hard. She didn't like that Rock and Jam's little cover story meant they were essentially using the citizens as meat shields. That might work for this group, but plenty of people out there who were upset over the Chimera thing that wouldn't take pause at firing into a full ballroom.

Pax's suggestion chipped some at Geoff's armor of determination, but at least Jack managed to make his expression soften, but just enough to let his rushed head think logically for a brief moment. The look on his face when he glanced to the former sheriff at least showed some uncertainty with his actions, yet that impatience simply wouldn't leave.

"Help me out here then. What are you even going to do?" he said, first addressing the agent. "Isn't like your guys will just come busting through the windows with the way this entire island is guarded."

His head whipped back to Jack then, the hedgehog caught between the very same objections he was trying to avoid.

"And we can just scare 'em out," he suggested, although doubting altogether that damage of any severity would actually be brought down on the innocents. "Just give us a few minutes with whatever plan he—" There was a quick nod to Pax. "—and I can come up with, and just get 'em all out of here."

A looming shadow lumbered up behind the bickering allies and peered down upon them from behind. It was Casey, but for once, sans gun-arm. Clearly, he had the sense to replace it with his much more peaceable prosthetic hand before trying to enter a crowded auditorium.

"You might wanna check out the opposition before you try 'scaring' anybody," he observed in a very suppressed, quiet, level-sounding tone, just loud enough for them to hear him when he leaned down. "If what you say is true, and they've got a few million robots, around the globe, they're probably not gonna leave their security detail to some... bouncers in black t-shirts."

He gestured toward the aforementioned double-doors where there indeed stood such an aptly-described bouncer. The guy, maybe a wolf of some kind, was modestly gruff-looking as a bouncer should be, but didn't appear all that formidable.

Backstage, somewhere behind the curtain, sat Rock amid the ruckus atop a hard, black gear case, an unplugged electric guitar resting on his knee, and a handwritten sheet of chords lying next to him, which he stared at intently as he strummed at an inaudible volume. He appeared very focused, and maybe just a little on edge; every now and again, he'd stop and start again abruptly, playing the same section three or four times over with a look of utmost dissatisfaction.

Rock could play; he had played for a better part of his sentient existence, but it wasn't the love of his life like it was for pretty much every single one of his bandmates, so it didn't come as naturally to him as the others.

See for example Shane, his gawky-looking stork bandmate, who, despite the appearance of one afflicted by a vast dearth of still-functioning brain cells, could play baroque fugues on an electric guitar, by memory, and while watching gameshows on TV, and in fact just finished doing so to "warm up." He had only moments ago finished and gone off to wander around one slow, dragging step at a time, as if lost in outer space, before finding his way to Rock by some total happenstance.

He proceeded to stare at Rock most intrusively and indiscreetly as he played.
The white primate could only clench his jaw and pretend he didn't notice, and that it didn't bother him.

"You should just... like... barre chord that part, dude..."

Meanwhile, less visible than the stage hands, and more hidden along the edges of the room, near each and every door, were many, many glowing eyes—a disconcerting number of them, some red and towering high above where normal eyes were usually hung, and some green, and at a more conventional eye-level station. The red ones belonged to repurposed Egg Gunners, Tau's military-pawn-of-choice, while the green ones were the eyes of many Capsule Troopers, each with a large, multiple-barreled cannon clasped to its back. They weren't terribly uniform; some were painted black, some were very scuffed and carried peculiar-looking equipment on their backs, and many of them just idly talked to one another about all sorts of things. It was clear that they were there for one unified purpose, however: to stand around with big guns and maybe use them to make a lot of not-so-musical noise if given sufficient reason.

Jacks gaze shifted the impatient hedgehog, her expression however didn't soften. It was pretty clear she wasn't going to play ball unless whatever they did spared the people in the room.

"He's right. It won't work. Sneakin' in seems unlikely too." Without waiting for a response she explained. "People are runnin' around back there tryin' to get this show started. Ya can't sneak back there because there are folks everywhere, and that's not countin' whatever nasties they brought with'em."

She didn't know what Pax's plan was, but she only had one suggestion. "We could wait, an they'll do their thing, and folks will leave, and then we wont have to worry 'bout hurtin' no one who ain't got it comin'."

Pax tensely tugged at the fur on his arms as he listened, though it seemed he was also tossing ideas around in his own head. With a sigh, he dropped his arms. "Listen...my idea was to infiltrate backstage through whatever means, wait until the show started, then search the premises for...I don't know, something, anything important or sensitive to report. Any kind of information or data could be a big help. If you were hoping to apprehend your...'friends' right here tonight, then I don't know what to tell you...other than don't do it unless you know you can."

The agent turned in place, scanning the surrounding area for any kind of hint. Bouncers, doors, dim lights, a big audience, chairs... He softly groaned, this was a poor situation, but surely there was a solution.

"Maybe a disguise or something," he began to mumble to himself. "Could pass ourselves off as roadies, maybe...or techs... Or...rig a fire alarm...? Maybe...from above? Wonder how big the air ducts are... Maybe all we need is a brief, low-key distraction..." Gardyner started running his fingers through the short hair on his head as he thought to himself.

"...I'm sorry, Jack, but I just don't want to give 'em the chance to run off after this," said the hedgehog amongst the ruckus of voices. All Geoff could really give the griffin was an apologetic glance, as if guilty for his own decision. He didn't want this to lead into the brooding dislike held between them thanks to the incident at Yellow Desert all over again, but, like he said, he couldn't just let the opportunity go.

And, once again, he found himself switching between people, wondering if they were becoming an oddity standing there with their circle of different conversations.

"Okay, look," muttered Geoff as he edged closer to Pax, trying to lead the canine away from the main portion of the group. "If we're going to do somethin', we need to do it fast. We ain't got much time as it is, and I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas here too." He glanced up back to the guarding bouncer up ahead. "If we can get by him without a fuss, we'll at least be somewhere backstage out of sight. I doubt they're going to cause mayhem with the crowd if we're not even a part of it."

And all the while, there stood Ace, arms crossed and contemplating the plans and revelations brought by his party. As time went on, his head tilted more and more, as if suspicious of something-- or just unsatisfied with what his ears were picking up. It took a while, but he finally spoke up.

"Geoff," he stated simply, before glancing over his shoulder in the hedgehog's direction. "...Are you even hearing yourself?" It was said plain and simple, cut and dry. Not condescending in the least, but riled if nothing else. "This hotel is packed full of hundreds of people. Innocent people who have nothing to do with this. They don't know Chimera is here; they just came for a cheap concert to get their mind off of the world. And you'd be happy letting them get caught in the crossfire so long as you get your grudge match with Rock?"

He shook his head.

"I hope you don't think I'm just gonna to let that happen."

Jacks stare turned angry as Geoff thought his apology was going to fly with her. But it was Ace who spoke up first. She glanced at the alley cat, almost surprised. Ace, despite appearances and former company seemed to be an alright guy. She pushed the thought aside and turned her attention to Geoff again, her eyes narrowing on him. He hasn't done anything wrong yet, but Jack was going to try and be as clear as possible as far as her stance on the situation went.

"It ain't gonna happen." Her voice was firm and while lacked the authority the tone used to have, it promised certain action on her part to put an end to anything reckless Geoff might have been planning.

A long stare was held with the hedgehog and his other companions, their statements and warnings burrowing into his mind.

"Fine," he snapped, but just as it left his lips, he actually did realize exactly what he was saying. All at once, Geoff appeared to deflate, the determined eyes filled with indignation suddenly becoming dull as all the pent up aggression was whisked out of his body. The voice of reason had finally managed to strike hard. These people were the closest thing he could actually call friends, and he, in just a few moments, had started sprinting his way to secure a spot with their harsher sides.

"I'm just all... riled up," he tried to explain, his tone significantly quieter now. "It's been on my mind even before we landed in Chun-nan, and... it just won't go away." A troubled sigh escaped him as he ran a hand through his hair, eyes finding the floor. "I was the last thing in his way up there. The last thing to keep this from all happening... but..."

He trailed off.

Abrupt transitions of attitude aside, Geoff was genuinely kicking himself over his rashness, fixating his stare now on some far off corner of the ballroom, not really focused as he felt the heat of shame pool inside him.
