It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

The group didn't have to spend long spinning their wheels before the tips started coming in. Jack's police connections proved invaluable when persistent reports of "strange lights" up above Starlight City (presumably in the old Scrap Brain Zone) came up. The area was outside of pretty much everybody's jurisdiction, though, and no South Island authorities had really cared to check it out for fear of it just being Eggman or Chimera at work setting up more facilities.
And so, it fell to them—Pax, Jack, and the rest of the party—to check it out. The wishful thinking at work was that it would lead them to Ace, or at least to Li Fang. But where to start?
South Island's mountains were steep and nigh-unnavigable. While the easiest course of action seemed like it'd be to call in a G.U.N. helicopter for transport, that option didn't work out so well; no sooner than their ride made it outside of the UF's airspace, a Chimera airship peppered it with "warning shots" until it retreated back to whence it came (in a trail of smoke and fire, no less). Tensions were still high, and G.U.N. was seeming less and less welcome on South Island.
So, it turned out that the easiest place to start was by taking the Sky Rail up to Starlight City, but from there, it'd be a trick and a trek to make it any higher. Thus we now find our heroes, standing in the thickly-forested western outskirts of Starlight City, and staring up at a near-vertical wall of stone.
It was late in the afternoon; the sun was setting, pitching the already reddish-rock in fiery orange. With the city well behind them, the only sound came from the roar of a mammoth waterfall their left, white and glistening, beating down harshly on a misty pool not far away, before continuing its plunge farther down the mountain and beyond. The area was almost paradise-like, but it didn't serve to help anyone much, as there was no clear way to scale the mountain, at least not without being someone like Jack, blessed inherently with wings.
"I've always heard there's some sorta path up from here," mused Casey, staring up at the unconquerable surface. The party's resident big, blue-bearded boar looked surprisingly optimistic, given the situation. (Either that, or he was just admiring the natural beauty.) "Some sorta trail, or... cave... tunnel thing. Always heard there were actually some sort of ruins inside the mountain itself that went up."
Wall. Big, fat wall. That was all they had seen so far besides a waterfall that had the power to crush them utterly.
"Not really seein' it, though."

A frown tugged at Jack's features as she stared up the wall. It was sheer and solid stone, not really the sort of thing that would make climbing possible, or remotely a good idea. Even with the rope in her bag, she didn't have the tools needed to properly climb it anyway.
"A path would be plenty useful, 'cause carryin' ya'll is outta the question," Jack commented to the boar as she looked around, running a gloved hand along the rock wall until she came to the waters edge.
By 'ya'll' she meant Casey. She might be able to ferry everyone one-by-one, but that wasn't going to happen in a million years with the boar, or Latika if she insisted on carrying that truck load on her back. So finding the fabled trail was their only option.
"It's probably grown over..." she said absently as she continued to look around, running on the assumption Casey maybe right. She looked into the pool of water the waterfall dumped into, glancing around its edges for anything jutting from the ground or water that would corroborate the rumor that there where ruins inside with some sort of external entrance. Given the wall was pretty... stone, the waterfall itself was dangerous in its own right and they already trekked through the woods, so the water's edge seemed like a good place to start.

Geoff, in the meantime, had been walking back and forth across the small clearing, a hand skimming across the relatively smooth stone as his eyes examined it. Of course, he wasn't truly expecting a pressure plate or some other natural-looking mechanism to open the way for them, but it didn't hurt to at least try. He'd witnessed stranger things.
With his thumbs looping around the straps of his backpack, the hedgehog sauntered his way over to where Jack was currently looking for the supposed entrance. He stood in relative silence for awhile as he seemed to become partially mesmerized by the falling water crashing down before them. However, a glint of an idea sparked in his eyes as he nudged the former sheriff in a casual manner.
"Maybe we should consider what's behind that thing," he proposed, nodding towards the waterfall.
Had to cover all the clichés, after all.

Ivan stared up at the wall with the others.
"Jumpin' this wall be childs play." He said musing the idea, but it would probably be counter-intuitive to everyone else being able to get there as well so he didn't bother. He walked up to the wall, putting a hand on it. He slid his gloved hand over the surface of the wall. Feeling it up, even.
"Mayhaps there be a switch'er somethin'."

The GUN agent preferred to stand back and examine the area with his eyes, in the hopes of catching some kind of visual clue. A big blank stone wall, a waterfall, and a whole bunch of trees. His brow furrowed as his focus drifted over every feature he could see. At the same time, he couldn't help but listen in on Jack and Geoff.
"Hmm..."
Wordlessly, he looked around the ground for a moment before picking up a fairly large rock in his hand. Making his way near the pool, positioning himself so that the griffin and hedgehog were far out of the way, Paxton hurled the stone at the rushing water. The stone was easily slapped downwards by the falls' force, the rock sinking into the pool. He stared into the water, looking a bit worried.
"I hope it's not behind the waterfall... That's a strong current. If it hides the entrance, I would hope there's a way around it that doesn't risk getting washed back down the mountain..."
"This is gonna take forever." The group's newish wolverine friend was not so pleased about the situation. Hands tucked in her pockets and a dour expression on her face, Tyra did not seem so keen about searching for an entrance. Perhaps it was a lack of a curious or sharp mind, or perhaps just a lack of motivation to try. "I don't wanna dig around in the woods all day for some cave or something that might not even be real. Are you sure you heard right?" she questioned Casey, not bothering to restrain her skepticism in the slightest.

Jack watched Pax's rock fall miserably into the water from the violent force of the water fall. She sighed a bit and gave a half smile to the hedgehog. "I'm with Pax on that one. We'd be better off tryin' to climb it."
Her attention shifted to the wolverine who was complaining. Jack wasn't sure what her story was, but was quick to pick up on the fact that Tyra was a bit of a negative nelly.
"This might take a while..." The former sheriff agreed, looking at the pessimist of the group. "Might go faster if ya look too."

Casey was quiet for a bit while Jack chided Tyra, but seemed to actually be considering the wolverine's question seriously. After all, a wild goose chase wouldn't be any help.
"Well, it's kinda famous," shrugged the boar as he gazed blankly up at the gigantic obstruction. "It's supposed to be part of the path Sonic followed up to the top of the mountain during Eggman's first big takeover attempt."
Perhaps just for thoroughness, he meandered toward the water's edge, and started looking across the river, down the shore, anywhere, really. At least it wasn't an unpleasant pursuit, for once; he adjusted his jacket just slightly, appreciating the fact that, at this altitude, it was actually needed, but without being frigidly cold. It was just... pleasant and cool.
Though shamefully distracted by how scenic and comfortable the place was, he eventually did a double-take when he looked farther downstream, then squinted.
"Whazzat over there?" he inquired in a blurt, pointing toward what, for him, was just a blurry dot or two in the distance. (He probably could have used some glasses.) "That a person?"Awaiting a post from you-know-who to say who it is 'den. Though we all probably know who it is.

As far as Ace was concerned, it may as well have been a corpse. No such luck, though. He came to in unfamiliar surroundings, but that was no surprise. It had been a long time since he actually woke up in the same place he'd fallen asleep in. The big difference this time was that he had what appeared to be natural sunlight pouring into his eyes, rather than the damp, murky darkness of the corner in someone's closet.
The other big difference was that, for once, he was content to just lie there with no immediate threats present. It was just him, the shore, and the world's squigiest pair of pants. His eyes peered open ever-so-slightly, and he lifted his head briefly to catch a better view of his surroundings (before almost immediately plopping it back down with an earthy thud), but beyond that he was happy to pretend he was dead for a little while longer. With her tail wrapped around her, Avatar sat cross-legged beside the thought-to-be unconscious cat. She was hunched over a small work-book that sat on the ground in front of her. Pencil in hand, the teen piranha was writing everything that had took part today - with an occasional glace back to the cat she'd found in the water. Her mind raced as she was trying to think up the perfect situation as to why he had been in the water in the first place.
Maybe he was a gang member, but he tried to quit. He knew too much so they tried to kill him by tossing him in a bag, and throwing him in the river, or better yet, down the waterfall. Avatar giggled inwardly as she started writing her made-up situation. The heroic feline suddenly felt the grasp of the two goons release. He knew that he had been thrown off something. He had no idea what, the darkness surrounding him blocked off his vision of the situation at hand. A cliff? A waterfall perhaps? It felt like his mind itself was trying to do a flip as he fell. Not a good time at all.
What could possibly be happening to him? What awaited him? Sharp rocks? Water? Concrete? He knew that he should try to escape from the bag, but his body felt frozen. Unable to move, he was in full-on panic. The tabby cat's hands clenched into fists, he knew now that whatever was waiting for him at the bottom would come soon. Soon, he would get his punishment.
With one last breath from the cat inside, the bag plunged into the cold, rushing water below. Avatar read over her work.
Perfect. She thought. Now he just needs a name.
She looked back over that the drenched cat laying beside her. Did she spot a movement? The piranha leaned over to get a better look at him.
"Yo, you awake now?"

He almost couldn't believe his luck. It seemed too good to be true.
...No. No, this had to be too good to be true. This must've been another dream. Some trick Li Fang was playing just to watch his hopes shatter.
'Oh, no,' he thought in the corners of his mind still capable of rational cognition. 'Not this tired cliché. Waking from unconsciousness on the shore to some beautiful stranger's beckoning. I'm not even going to bow to that one. I am far too tired to dignify this with an answer. I'll just lie here and look dead.'
...But he couldn't, because he was already breathing, and besides that, he didn't really want to die. For whatever reason, he still clung to the hope that life was still livable even after all these recent experiences. So he answered in the sort of groan one might expect from someone who just awoke from a much-needed slumber: "'F I'm not dreaming..."
He paused, and focused his groggy eyes on the girl beside him. "...Where am I...?"
'Damn,' he swore inwardly. 'What a slave I am to stereotype.'

Very amused by the cat's cliche response, Avatar held back her laughter. This was not a good time for that.
"You're beside the river I pulled you out of." She replied with a matter-of-fact tone. She figured she should keep it simple, he was just flickering back into reality, and she had no idea what he had been though - not counting her imagined situation. Her eyes scanned the cat's body, making sure he was breathing correctly now.
As she looked, a thousand questions clawed at her mind surrounding the cat, and she forced herself to push them from her mind - for the moment anyway. She fully intended to ask what happened, for a real-life scenario was far more interesting then her made up one. She loved a good adventure, and it would be perfect for her 'ideas' book. What kind of cruel fate had led this feline to such horrors (Of, being drowned in the water)? Who could have done this?
At that moment, a grim though brushed through her mind. That thought pushed realism into her fantasy world. Oh how she hated when that happened. He better not say 'I was just clumsy and fell into the water'.
The teen piranha knew how many people trekked through this area for hiking, and she also knew that not all of them should. She still had high hopes for this tabby cat though. He looked like someone who had been though a lot.
Pushing through the thousand questions her mind had offered to her, she decided to ask the most realistic one.
"Are you okay?"

With their options dwindling away one by one, Geoff jumped on Casey's observation with some vigor, already having the incentive to take a few steps farther forward than the boar towards the object (or person) in sight. The hedgehog's keener eyes squinted off to where the figure rested, and soon came to the conclusion that there were two. And was that... yellow he saw?
"There is no way..." muttered Geoff in disbelief, blinking as if it would clear his vision and reveal a different color. His doubts certainly didn't stop him from going into a relatively quick jog forward, feet swishing through the grass and brush, making a beeline towards the distant figures without bothering to check if anyone would follow his lead.

Jack turned to look at Casey, and then the direction he was looking. Jack's eyes snapped to the yellow form, widening.
"What in..." She said after a momentary look of shock. She jumped into the air, flying closer to get a better look. "That's Ace!" She yelped in surprise as she flew to the waters edge, stopping a few steps shy.
"We'll I'll be..." She said, unable to contain how impressed she was with the cat's apparent escape, let alone survival.

Ace plopped his head back down with a quiet sigh. "...Aahhh dunno..." he admitted. For the most part he felt numb, but the cat could still feel the tingling tickle of grass underneath his outstretched palms. "'M kinda afraid to move anything..."
Click.
"Hey, wait. You saved me?"
For better or worse, he didn't seem to notice the incoming company just yet. He was still a little out of it.

"Yeah, that's right. I saw you floating by while I was taking a swim in the rapids-"
Hearing the new voice, the young piranha turned toward the bird. Avatar didn't even realize what a questionable position she was in at the moment. If the bird hadn't heard their conversation earlier, it could have looked like she was the one who attacked the cat. Though, this fact didn't register at the moment.
The teen jumped to her feet, and stared in the bird's direction. She wasn't actually the cat's real ally, but she wasn't about to let him get even more hurt. For all she knew, this bird was trying to finish the job, and if Avatar learned anything from living in Westside, she definitely learned never to trust anyone. Especially when someone's hurt. The piranha raised her arms protectively, prepping the sharp fins on her forearms for a fight.
"Don't take another step there! Who're you?!" The fish yelled, giving the newcomer a glare that quite possibly was used to fend off much stronger enemies. She was definitely no push-over.

Ivan continued to pat the wall, hoping to find some hidden switch or pressure plat of some sort. But he was derailed from his work when Casey seemed to see something. He stopped what he was doing to look over in the direction in which the boar was squinting.
It certainly seemed to be that friend of theirs that they'd spent some time searching for. Based on his description, it certainly checked out. Ivan trudged over, but stopped next to Casey.
"Lucky find, eh?" He said, looking at the boar, "Ain't too often ya accidentally stumble onta the guy you been searchin' for by a scenic waterfall."
With that, he took off after Geoff and Jack. He arrived at the scene in just enough time to see the piranha that was with Ace got on the defensive. The pirate sauntered toward the piranha, but kept a respectable distance.
"Lighten up ther, lass," He said, extending a palm, gesturing for her to yield, "We been searchin' for this guy... For a while." He said, looking uneasily at Jack, and then Geoff as he closed in, "...A while, aye?"
