Updates

Sonic Spindash RP is closed.

Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.

It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

Latika stood by, a little too interested in one of the spare .22s lying on the counter, but was happily too encumbered too do anything about it; laden with all the finest carnival delights like bagged caramel corn, a sizable, tottering plume of cotton candy, some horrible abomination that professed to be some kind of fried chocolate bar (on a stick!), and various other boardwalk staples, the loris didn't seem too terribly upset by Casey's inability to secure a large, stuffed giraffe for her.

"Why people play these contest when it designed to not win?" she brazenly asked of the poor, threatened attendant. "Is Western pastime for cheating people?"

It was with a sort of subtly lofty detachment that she spoke, suggesting she either did not at all understand the implications of the boisterous boar's claim, or else she found the booth jockey's squirming too gratifying to stop...

The boardwalk was a smorgasbord of booze for a particular rabbit filled with just open bars so you can go up, buy a drink and keep walking. Ivan was doing just that.

He made his way over to where Casey was trying to show off for their foreign friend. He tilted back the bottle in his hand to finish it off before he stopped near them. A hand falling on the boar's shoulder to which the gun was attached. Was he going to stop him?

"Don't be wastin' yer bullets matey," He said before reaching into his coat to pull out his trusty flintlock. Historically, not the surest of firing weapons. But his was special. "Lemme take a crack at it."

He said before taking aim and pulling the hammer back, sticking out his tongue as he stared down the top of the barrel.

The drunken hare would find firing the weapon into the booth a bit harder as a certain griffin interjected on behalf of the terrified booth attendant. She ran over and grabbed Ivan's arm pointing his gun up and away from the booth as he pulled the hammer back.

"Woooooaaah," she said, to the drunken hare looking a little scared he'd been so willing to unload a round on the boardwalk.

"Holster it," Jack said firmly. "There is a reason they use crappy little guns here, Ivan."

With that she turned to the attendant who might be in need of a change of pants. "Sorry, he's drunk..."

She wasn't really sure if he was actually drunk, but just kind of assumed it was a constant for him.

"Nngh?"

That was the noise Casey made a split second before his eyes flashed wide. Why? Well... his own gun was still broken. He had no intention of actually shooting anything. Ivan, however, he knew would. And was going to. Imminently. He therefore guided Latika quickly by the shoulders out of that space and started doing the entirely-too-conspicuous hey, I'm just walking and looking around, no idea what's going on back there stroll, humming off-key, eyes wandering.

"Just keep walking," he whispered.

Once they got a little distance, he hazarded a glance backward, and discovered the day (or at least the midway game) had been saved by the sheriff. Casey didn't bank on it lasting.

"First thing t'learn about Ivan is he's got a good heart, but it pumps more alcohol than actual blood," he explained privately to the loris.

Sorry to abort so quickly, but I'm only doing it because I'm afraid everyone's going to try to enter the scene right on top of Casey. We've got a lot of physical space to work with, so, try not to. Perhaps you should collaborate with one another on some level prior to entering your characters so that maybe we can have them converse meaningfully in their own spaces before converging, or something. I just want to avoid another cluster-... well, you know. I'm not saying it's happening yet, but I am aiming to cut it off before it does happen. We should avoid dogpiling here, or else this scene will be just as borked as the last.

Maybe pick a partner from the suggested list of investigations in the announcement post, then we'll work our way to the secondary stuff? Or collaborate with somebody on something entirely different if you wanna. Just make sure we don't end up with a pile of four or five or (heaven forbid) more characters all in one spot so soon or things will probably spiral out of control.

I hereby erect an OOC character barrier around Casey. Only Geoff is allowed to approach until after they've had their conversation. (Well, Latika too, but only 'cause she's already there.)

Tyra had seated herself on a bench on the boardwalk some time ago. She'd been there for about fifteen minutes, having realized that she was low on pocket change and couldn't even go out to get something real to eat. So she sat there, munching on multiple energy bars that she'd gotten from a vending machine with the last of her money. Three empty wrappers sat next to her, while a third one that still contained some brick-shaped food was still in her hand. The wolverine looked bored, munching on grains covered with preservatives and peering up and down the walk for anything of interest.

This would be a nice vacation if I was in the mood...and had the dang cash for it.

It was around this time the GUN agent had wandered back, a brown lidded cup in his hand with a coffee shop logo emblazoned on the side. He scanned the crowds of people, hoping to catch a glimpse of anyone else in the group. It was difficult, as the only one he'd had any substantial interaction with was Casey; remembering who to actually look out for was a disorienting effort when you could barely remember their faces and names. Pax quietly trudged on, sipping at his coffee every now and then.

Fumbling in his pocket, he pulled out a black PDA. With only a glance at the screen, he put it back and kept walking.

Ivan leaned with the arm as Jack pushed his arm aside. She managed to distract him from pulling the trigger, but he looked at her belligerently; giving her a half-lidded stare before waving the gun in her face.

"Arr, I be aimin' here. You could make me shoot someone, doin' that $#&%..." He grumbled.

When Jack turned back to Ivan to see him waving his gun around her eyes widened and her hands moved without her really thinking before hand, she grabbed the weapon at the top pushing it aside and twisting until Ivan's relatively loose grip released in which she took the gun.

"Put this away, Ivan." She asked again, offering him the butt of the flintlock and an explanation he might understand. "If you break their stuff they'll stop sellin' ya booze and toss ya out."

The bunch of them didn't get rid of Vade that easily, as the coyote was following the bunch of them from a distance. After having left his top-spinner in a safe hiding place, he marched towards where he last saw the group go: the boardwalk.

A place of fun and entertainment, Vade ofcourse felt like a coyote in the desert. He went by various of the games and snack stands, often breaking one of the rigged games, causing him to get shooed away from the stand.

After a bit of fun, he was walking while emptying the last of a bag of crisps in his mouth, with two more bags sitting beneath his arm. Deciding he wanted to take his time to munch down the other two bags, he looked around for a bench to have himself a peaceful seat. Most of the benches were however already taken by drunks taking a nap, partymakers or kids that lost their parents in the masses.

Eventually he found a bench that still had some room to sit on, but the person sitting on the bench appeared to be his "friend" from the docks: the wolverine. He at first blinked surprised, but then shrugged as he walked over to the bench and sat himself down, not paying attention to the wolverine yet as he was fiddling to get his next bag of crisps open.

Reason: No offense, but it is customary to not make every sentence its own paragraph. Unnecessary carriage returns make for difficult reading. Double-spaced returns are the norm in electronic (online) settings, too.

Geoff should have been enjoying himself, really, being back in the right hemisphere and all. There was no denying he found it pleasant to just have a stroll down a setting that could have been familiar anywhere else in the U.F., being able to eat foods he could recognize at first glance and just enjoying the peace that resonated along the boardwalk. No tainting of robotic tyranny or other government powers either — a stark contrast to what things had been merely a month ago. It was refreshing, to say the least.

Yet the hedgehog just couldn't shake that feeling of impatience and wasted time. Try as he might to just let the atmosphere nudge him into a problem-free bliss, nagging thoughts of his and the others' current task refused to leave him be, even with the current dead end still an unavoidable obstacle. Where he'd gain such a worrying perspective over their captured team member continued to baffle him, yet it still managed to continue being a present thought, even if it lingered on the edges of his mind.

Once the allotted time to meet up with the others began to roll around, though, Geoff was quick to return. Deciding his approach logically (the shooting game commotion versus the calmer option of Casey and Latika) he walked over to the boar, giving a perturbed glance over to where the sailor and former griffin stood, seeing weaponry. That wasn't a good sign.

"...everything alright over there?" he asked when he was in earshot, his eyes still preoccupied with the midway game.

Casey looked to Geoff as he approached. With a nod for greeting, he said simply and reassuringly, "Yeah, it's all good." He then stopped and leaned against an old metal lamppost, watching the sheriff from afar as she reprimand the gun-flailing thug.

"He just turns a lil' reckless when he gets all oiled up. Well, more reckless."

The hog shrugged and turned attention more onto the hedgehog. "Feelin' any better now that we're back on good ol' South Island?" he asked with a renewed smile.

Now that was a question to inspire a confused answer.

"In some ways, yeah," the hedgehog replied after a short moment of considering his current thoughts. He turned towards the boardwalk a bit more openly, as if referring to the entirety of it. "I mean, its nice seeing all of this actually looking... normal. Nothing's been like that since the ARK."

He paused, and with a sigh that could only produce a disgruntled confession, he proceeded to do just that.

"But with everything that's happened, it kind of sticks with ya. I don't think I'm quite normal myself anymore, like I'm part of some larger, inescapable game."

Mako was remarkably contented with his life at the moment-- that is to say, he wasn't afraid that the boardwalk was going to explode at any moment, which was a fairly impressive accomplishment as far as his usual worldview went.

The shark was currently devouring his way through his third fish taco, with fourth in hand (the vendors had given up on giving him odd looks) and enjoying the first time in entirely too long that he wasn't being yelled at by a spear-wielding lunatic. This all added up to Mako walking up and down the boardwalk, and he was perfectly okay with this.

Popping the last of the third taco into his mouth, he cast his eye to the side and saw, in passing... that wolverine girl. He had kind of stayed clear of her on the way over, but... He was kind of curious about at least a thing of two.

Carefully, the fish edged towards Tyra, eying first the wrappers beside her, and then the coyote on the bench beside.

"Uh. ... hi?" he offered, half-waving with the hand holding his fourth taco. Mako: wizard with words!

Whatever the porter may have had to say re: Musings on Ivan went well unsaid as the pair was approached by yet another member of their odd little assembly of individuals.

She followed the conversation in silence, yet not one of disinterest or ignorance. Her eyes followed the troubled hedgehog piercingly, invasively, as though unaware that it wasn't generally considered polite. After several moments of perhaps uncomfortable staring, she very simply said,

"Adversity does change you."

The beat of a single breath punctuated her pause. "But is not exclusive to you; world is not suddenly 'you' and 'them.' People need to play this kind of 'normal' feeling to forget their situations. Caramel corn help with that sometimes."

Ivan had to do a double-take when the gun was swiped from his grasp. First, he noticed she had a gun just like his, but then he looked at his hand. It no longer had a gun in it. Then at her hand again.

He gave her a disgruntled as she chastised him, then reaching over to grab it back. He reset the hammer back to it's intial position gently before holstering it.

"Fine, ya be makin' a decent point," He said defeatedly, "I be needin' another drink anyways."

With that, he wandered off to the next bar stand.

The wolverine looked up immediately, not recognizing the shark's voice. Tyra seemed to tense up in her seat, until she saw Mako standing there with a fish taco. She visibly relaxed, though her eyes seemed to fixate on the food for a bit, before just simply nodding at the boy and mumbling back to him, "Hey."

She took a loud, crunchy bite of the grainy nutrient bar, her gaze wandering off to the boardwalk for a moment before moving back to Mako. "Whatcha want?" she asked flatly. She'd found no reason to actively dislike the shark, as he had mostly left her alone for the past couple of weeks, so she seemed willing to chat with him, at least for a while. Not like she had anything better to do, either.
