My theory? They're building up a Cosmic cast to accompany the Earth Heroes for battling Thanos.

I hope he does too, for now. But he was pretty much the OG Avenger in the comics (Sorry Cap), and maybe the movie will make us like him more.

Now, for the plot theory. The main villain is shown here, and based on what we've seen, it is most likely Mandarin. In the comics, he's kind of a psychopath who just hates the world and stuff. But this version is CLEARLY a frothing Avengers fanboy. (See: 0:47 on the video; A Cap shield tattoo with the Avengers A in the center. You may need to increase video quality to see it.)

My theory is that one of the things that Tony must apologize for, is brushing Mandarin off when he asked for an autograph. This event is what leads Mandarin, who is already kind of unhinged, to seek revenge for the atrocity. This rage is evident in his monologue about there being no heroes.

You heard it here first. Food for thought.
