Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

Quick question: According the RP, there are virtually no firearms. Does this include energy weapons? Say, a gun that fires plasma bolts? I'm also a little worried about the origin story of her power.... What is your character's name? >Blaire Fields Species? >Siberian Husky Age? >19 Give us a couple paragraphs of general info about your character. For example, what's the character's personality like? What kind of things does he or she do? Why does he or she do it? (Please don't give us your character's point-by-point life history, though.) >Blaire is generally a calm and level-headed canine, rarely losing her composure. This is one dog who is not the kind to allow negative emotions to overtake her. There are many times when, regardless of any inner turmoil she may be feeling, that her outer expression shows complete confidence and assurance. However, with close friends the canine is more open regarding her more negative emotions, though she does still try to show an air of composure about her either way. Blaire is also a highly sociable dog, though not quite to the extent of her best friend, Aurora Lunetane. She quite enjoys spending time with her friends and works great in a team as well. Of course, her calm and oftentimes smug demeanor can suggest a rather arrogant attitude to those that do not know her well enough. But when they get to know her better, they find a dog who is loyal and cares deeply for her friends and family. Does your character have any skills or special abilities, a gimmick, or anything that makes it stand out as an athlete or fighter? If so, talk a little about it here. Be sure to include an explanation or origin story for anything unusual, extraordinary, or supernatural. >Blaire comes from a long line of cryokinetics, and she has inherited the ability. Her skills range from allowing her to throw shards of ice, to partially numbing and freezing an opponent. Her attacks lose power and effectiveness the hotter it is (since, after all, ice melts in the heat) Blaire is capable of some acrobatics - nothing terribly fancy, but she is capable of nice flips and sommersaults, not to mention she's pretty nimble on her feet anyway. The canine is able to use a combat knife and energy gun with a fair amount of skill. Blaire knows some martial arts, including some karate. Rank-wise, she would most likely be a yellow belt. Does your character have any purpose? (It's okay if you don't have this fully figured out yet, but all the better if your character does have an agenda or some sort of driving force to it to make it interact with other characters.) >Blaire doesn't really have any 'driving force' in her life. She mainly wants to enjoy life and what it has to offer. However, she would be willing to help others out in 'world-saving' situations, if she was ever thrown into such. Does your character have an image? You can post it here, if so (as long as you follow the rules mentioned in the character guidelines). If not, please write a description of your character's appearance. >Blaire’s primary fur color is a mid-tone purple, with her secondary color being a light lavender contained inside her ears, on her muzzle, torso and on the underside of her tail. Like most Siberian Huskies, she has a thick double coat consisting of a long topcoat of short, straight guard hairs, over a dense undercoat. The dog’s ears are pricked and allow her to show a myriad of emotions depending on their position. A small tuff of head fur sticks out in-between her ears. Like most dogs of her breed, Blaire’s tail is sickle-shaped and fluffy. It is primarily carried up, giving the husky an aura of confidence. Blaire’s eyes are a deep shade of blue, clear and constantly alert. A round, jet black leather nose sits on her muzzle. Said muzzle flares out to the side at six different sections, three on each side. Each ‘flare’ tappers off to a point at the end – the top pair curls upwards while the two bottom pairs curl down. Standing at four feet and weighing eighty-three pounds, the dog has an athletic build. She is slim yet sturdy. Both her legs and arms have built up strength over the years, and though she by no means has superhuman vigor, the strength in her limbs allows her to perform some nice aerobic maneuvers. Blaire typically dons a rather simple outfit. Her wardrobe consists first off of a red sleeveless shirt. Over that she has a dark blue sleeveless trench coat that stops about an inch above her knees. The coat is made of a thin but sturdy material and always kept open so as not to trap her body heat and thus keep herself cool. Her jeans are made of sturdy denim, dyed a navy blue color. Blaire also wears a pair of brick red gloves with a darker cuff. As for footwear, the canine dons a pair of puce boots with black trimming on the bottom. They go up two inches past her ankle and are made of leather. She also wears a black belt around her waist. Will you be around to play your character regularly? (i.e. Keeping daily tabs on any threads you involve yourself in, and posting whenever it's your turn?) >I'm on a computer with internet access pretty much everyday. If something does come up, however, I'll let you know as soon as I can. Do you live in or near the Americas, or elsewhere? (It may be difficult for you to participate in any of the fast-moving sessions if you're only online when the rest of the group is asleep, so we ask this just to be aware of any potential problems.) >Yes, I live in America. Texas, specifically. Are you okay with having your character information and image on this website (such as on the wiki)? >Sure. Fine by me. What is your name? (Don't post your last name! This forum isn't private!) >Michelle. But just call me Blaire in this forum. ;P

Just so you know, it may take a day or three before we can review your character info. A couple of us admin folk won't have access to a computer until friday. (I'm actually posting this from a cell phone right now.)
So, hang tight for a few! Thanks for your patience and all that jazz.

Alright, sorry about the delay, there. Anyway, I'm running on very little sleep, and my muscles have turned to protein sludge, so being cleverly and analytically concise is outside my functional capabilities. As such, I'm going to do this the old-fashioned way, and just C&P your profile below and comment on it as I closely read through. My comments are in red text.
Quick question: According the RP, there are virtually no firearms. Does this include energy weapons? Say, a gun that fires plasma bolts? -- As a matter of balance, you won't find plasma weapons in a pistol form in our RP, if that's what you mean. (They tend to be bulkier, often shoulder-fired weapons here in our own slice of fanon.) As a matter of availability, energy weapons are marginally more obtainable than conventional firearms at this point, though still very rare, and usually comprised of Eggman robot salvage.
That is to say, there's nowhere that "sells" guns at the moment in our RP world. They'd have to be salvaged by someone with advanced technical skill or stolen.I'm also a little worried about the origin story of her power.... :? -- Is there an origin story at all? All I picked up on my first skim was that people in her lineage are born with ice powers for no reason. I will read onward and again, though. What is your character's name? >Blaire Fields Species? >Siberian Husky -- No Siberia here, so no "Siberian" required here or anywhere else in the profile. (Sonic is not Sonic the African Pygmy Hedgehog, so, yeah, you get the deal. Characters like, say, Tasmanian devils get a free pass on this because "devil" doesn't make sense on its own, though.)Age? >19 Give us a couple paragraphs of general info about your character. For example, what's the character's personality like? What kind of things does he or she do? Why does he or she do it? (Please don't give us your character's point-by-point life history, though.) >Blaire is generally a calm and level-headed canine, rarely losing her composure. Blaire is also a highly sociable dog, though not quite to the extent of her best friend, Aurora Lunetane. She quite enjoys spending time with her friends and works great in a team as well. (Suggest that you leave out any mention of characters that you haven't submitted or aren't already in the story. The name "Aurora Lunetane" sounds Mary-Sue-ish, so its inclusion is only a detriment to your profile.)Of course, her calm and oftentimes smug demeanor can suggest a rather arrogant attitude to those that do not know her well enough. But when they get to know her better, they find a dog who is loyal and cares deeply for her friends and family. -- Anyway, there's no real problems in this section overall, but it doesn't really tell us anything about what this character does, why she's some kind of adventurer (which I presume she likely is), etc.Does your character have any skills or special abilities, a gimmick, or anything that makes it stand out as an athlete or fighter? If so, talk a little about it here. Be sure to include an explanation or origin story for anything unusual, extraordinary, or supernatural. >Blaire comes from a long line of cryokinetics, and she has inherited the ability. Her skills range from allowing her to throw shards of ice, to partially numbing and freezing an opponent. Her attacks lose power and effectiveness the hotter it is (since, after all, ice melts in the heat) -- As you predicted, this faces difficulty because the rules address it precisely. See here: Elemental powersElemental power rules wrote: These will be allowed if handled in some sort of interesting way. As always, chaos energy still stands as the go-to BS explanation for what powers elemental abilities, but you'll need a little something more to get a pass on these for your character—some sort of interesting origin for the ability, be it an artifact, science, some sort of exposure to something that could (even remotely plausibly) grant such an ability, or something else to that effect. (In short, don't just say, "Oh, my character was born with the ability to SHOOT FIRE OUT HIS EYEBALLS for no readily apparent reason!" Make it interesting.) Blaire is capable of some acrobatics - nothing terribly fancy, but she is capable of nice flips and sommersaults, not to mention she's pretty nimble on her feet anyway. The canine is able to use a combat knife and energy gun with a fair amount of skill. Blaire knows some martial arts, including some karate. Rank-wise, she would most likely be a yellow belt. What we have here is a cryokinetic knife-fighting energy-gun-slinging acrobatic karate-fighting brand new character who is starting with these skills for no justified reason. It's unfocused concept-wise and feels like it's all over the map. A character who's been around in an RP like this could plausibly pick up a lot of varied skills just by being a part of a such a raucous adventure-story for a little while, but you and your character are newcomers here, so you have to effectively justify why she has this pell-mell mix of skills and abilities (that is, make it believable to us), or trim it down and strive to pick up some of those skills through actual RPing and character development. It can and does happen; characters have gained their entire gimmicks (even elemental abilities) simply through participation in the story here. Development's encouraged. Pre-packing it in all at the get-go? Not so much, unless applied with a careful, believable touch.Does your character have any purpose? (It's okay if you don't have this fully figured out yet, but all the better if your character does have an agenda or some sort of driving force to it to make it interact with other characters.) >Blaire doesn't really have any 'driving force' in her life. She also wears a black belt around her waist. -- It's telling that the longest section of the profile is the visual description, and that more thought seems to have been put into it than justifying your character's superpower, skills, origin, and personality. (Also, I have to say that in the first paragraph it sounds like you're describing an actual, real-life dog straight out of the kennel rather than an upright, two-legged sapient being with humanity and dignity.)Will you be around to play your character regularly? (i.e. Keeping daily tabs on any threads you involve yourself in, and posting whenever it's your turn?) >I'm on a computer with internet access pretty much everyday. This forum isn't private!) >Michelle. But just call me Blaire in this forum. ;P -- Afraid not. We already learned our lesson about this; you can ask one of our other members (Sheff) about the difficulties and confusion of trying to use the same name for both yourself and your character. We don't do "fursonas" around here, so you're much better off not pretending to be your character all the time, either.
Anyway. The only hard-rule-related thing that prevents this from being accepted is unexplained cryo-powers. I perceive that this is a very vital part of the character to you, so we're certainly not asking you to axe it, but we are saying that you should make it seem like it actually came from somewhere. No, Sonic's speed isn't explained, nor is Knuckles' strength, but those are just exaggerated attributes. Meanwhile, Blaze's pyrokinesis is tied to her strong connection with the Sol Emeralds. [Note: This is not advising you to create yet more emeralds.]
Anyway, I'm just saying that when there's something wildly different and supernatural, it should have an origin story. A novelization is not required, and you need not overexplain it in painstaking fanfic detail. We don't make people jump through hoops like that here. Just give a profile-appropriate reason and everyone will probably be happy.

Alright, I've made some edits on her profile. I've cut out the cryokinesis for one thing - I could possibly have her develop it and her other skills through participation in the RP. Also edited her appearance slightly. As for her purpose....would you object to her starting out as a 'normal' citizen on the planet, but circumstances (whatever fits the rp, of course) brings her into the adventuring aspect of the story? Edit: Gave a reason for her acrobatics and karate.

Woo, there you go. I started your wiki page:
Blaire Fields
Let someone know whenever you're done tinkering with it and somebody will give it a skim and, if everything's square, stamp it.
As a final note: It is cool that you're going to try to give her those powers in the course of the story. (No "cool" pun intended there.) But you are hopefully aware that this isn't a super-fast-paced RP, so it's one of those "it'll happen when it happens" things, and only when it makes sense to happen, obviously. So, if you change your mind and want to take another crack at giving the ability to her off the bat, you are still welcome to.
Also, if you want to get yourself involved in the story, or get any help with the profile stuff, the best bet is to pop into the chat, meet folks, get to know'em, talk about the RP, and all that good stuff. Really, that's the best thing you could do as a new person around here, regardless. (If you've already been popping in the chat, then great. I haven't been around much myself owing to the moving and internet outage shenanigans I'm suffering personally, so, yeah.)
Again, if you've got any questions, let somebody know. Later! Now one month later and profile seems completely abandoned. Deleting.
