Site Announcement Title
|
Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

Archer's gaze drifted downward as he thought about the options that lay before him. Haggling was a no-go, and without knowing anything about the mystery thing they had been sent to acquire, it was a gamble that anyone would buy it for a comparable price, and what could they use it for? It was a huge gamble for the sake of pride.
And pride doesn't pay the bills. He let out a defeated sigh and nodded.
"Of course, you're right." He turned to Tracer with a stern look, as if trying to wordlessly convince her that this was the best option, "Let's give him the box."
Setting up for future jobs was, in some ways better than haggling a better price. After all, it wasn't like jobs were lining up for them lately.

Tracer remained very surly about the decision. In her mind her pride always came before money. She gave Archer a very nasty look when he turned to her. Clearly unhappy she dropped the crate from her shoulder.
Tracer wasn't normally chatty, but even she found it hard to keep quiet sometimes. This being one of those times. So instead of fouling up whatever Archer wanted she bit her tongue and crossed her arms over her chest. She would stick around apparently. But it was clear she was hanging on by fingernails.

At least Li wasn't smug about it. Instead, he almost seemed distrustful, the way he just... looked up from his reading and into their direction from the corners of his eyes, and stared quietly for a moment.
"... Very good, then," he finally said. He looked off behind them. "Dian."
The one troop they had returned with, the one wearing the bandoliers, stepped forward from the entry doorway. He was no longer wearing his mask, and as thus discernible as some sort of... stocky-built lynx, or similar feline. For some reason, his very broad, scruffy, wild-haired face looked more formidable than it did with the mask on.
"Inspect it quickly," ordered Li Fang. "We don't want to delay our associates from receiving their pay and leaving."
While he went about opening the crate (and tussling with a very formidable-looking lead box inside), Li addressed Tracer and Archer again.
"The offer still stands, regarding those foreigners. Whatever it is they are or aren't up to, people like them are... trouble. Do you understand what I mean? They're bad to have in my territory at a crucial time like this."
Apparently, he was referencing the instability and changes the area was facing in light of the aforementioned news. What exactly he meant was unclear, but, perhaps it again related to something he knew about the group. It certainly seemed he had done his homework, either way.

Archer wasn't terribly privy to what "this crucial time" really was, other than the obvious anarchy brought on by the seat of power quickly shifting from Eggman to... who? He hadn't been terribly in the loop on this one. More focused on trying to get money in his pocket.
"Absolutely," He said as if he did know what Li Fang was going on about, "So long as the payment keeps flowing, we can make sure your visitors know how unwelcome they are, but... do you only want the cat?"
Li Fang had only expressed interest in Ace moments ago, but they all seemed like potential thorns to the bowman. Maybe he would pay them for each captured intruder. Or maybe he was hoping too much.

"For now," replied their employer simply. He apparently didn't have much reason to take interest in the others yet, or he felt his goal would be accomplished with only Ace.
Before much else could be said, Dian finished unpackaging their prize, and lifted it free from its lead-lined box.
A crawling cold moved through the room, standing hairs on end. The environment suddenly felt tiresome to be in, not peaceful, sleepy, or restful, but languid. Whether or not anything actually changed was a matter of discerning imagination from reality, but for a moment, it almost seemed as though the well-lit room dimmed — or was it the edges of their collective vision darkening?
Dian stared into the object in his hands, a mirror wrapped in a black ring. Metallic leaves, feathers, thorny vines, and other filigree wound ornately around its circumference. Its reflective surface was unlike any normal mirror, undulating, shimmering like mercury, flowing with every light perturbation.
The troop extended a single index finger toward the moving surface, mesmerized.
"Put it back," said Li, grave in tone.
Dian blinked in a flutter, paused, then lowered it carefully back into the box, and closed the lid. The sensation vanished.

The vanilla-colored mouse watched in intrigued awe from his somewhat-distant spot as the one called Dian examined the mirror. He could feel his hands start to shiver as his eyes gleaned across the twisting, ornate metal and the strange "glass" of the artifact. It was clear to him that there was something eerie about the "Circle," but he kept his expression blank, mostly easy to do while his eyes were hidden by the dark lenses he wore. He gave the quietest sigh of relief when the object was placed back in its storage. "Repoussant," he couldn't help but whisper to himself. I don't want to see that ghastly thing again unless I absolutely need to...
The mouse set to straightening his clothes, attempting to look nonchalant and casual about the small ordeal that just happened.

Tracer regaurded the crate and the henchmen from the corner of her eye. When the box opened and the sinking feeling set in she turned towards it, her eyes narrowing a bit.
She just gave something very bad to a very questionable man. She took comfort in, given her experince with his foot soilders, at least she was sure he wouldn't keep ahold of The Circle for long.

Archer watched as the thing they risked life and limb for had been brought from it's nifty lead case. Almost instantly, the atmosphere of the room got heavier.
It felt like death rolled in, passing through his body for a moment until it was settled back inside it's lead prison. Archer rubbed his arms a moment to ensure he still had blood flowing, before shooting a glance at Tracer.
He cleared his throat, "So, Mr. Fang... What're you gonna be using that incredibly creepy Death mirror for, anyway?" He asked, expecting him to dodge it with suave mannerism or something you'd expect from a crime lord such as Li Fang.

Li Fang looked to Archer, failing to emote in any discernible way; "A gift for my mother-in-law," he answered dryly.
...
"Shouldn't you be taking my money from my secretary and rendering more of your gratuitously overpriced services, now?" he asked and tiredly gestured toward the door, where they might leave. "I do believe there's a yellow cat somewhere waiting to be skinned."

"Heh."
Archer snickered at Li Fang's response. Of course. His Mother-in-law. He walked over to the secretary to complete the transaction and get their money before he headed toward the door. He looked at Tracer on his way out, whispering, "Man, he must hate his mother-in-law, huh?" as if what Li Fang had said was serious.

Li Fang's joke was the end of Tracers interest, she turned and started for the door even as he told them to go. She didn't stop for her pay as she knew Archer would collect it for her.
She walked out with the deer shaking her head at his last comment. Once down the hall a sigh escaped the quiet llama.
"You're a crap negotiator."

The rat quietly watched the pair of mercenaries go. Soon as they were out of sight, he slowly and listlessly strolled his way closer to the box containing the dark Norden Circle. His eyes lingered on the lead box for a moment, with only the slightest twitch at the corner of his mouth to express his displeasure with the object, before he turned to Li Fang.
"Do you think those two are trustworthy enough?" he inquired, shifting into a serious, all-business tone of voice, while maintaining the blank expression. "Should I keep an eye on them? I can send a couple of scouts to keep tabs. They seem to be the...unpredictable sort," he said with a weak frown.

"When people lust after money as much as those two do, they cease to be 'unpredictable,'" replied Li Fang, matter-of-fact, leaning back in his chair and toying with his computer some more. "Dangerous, yes; dishonest, yes; but you can always count on them to reliably, predictably do whatever profits them most. The only thing I need to do is ensure that I remain their greatest source of profit for as long as I actually need them."
Just when it seemed he was about to turn the rat down on his offer, the lizard did just the opposite; he glanced up with a bored, yet somehow wry look, gestured toward the lead-lined box, and said, "You should follow them anyway, though. Take Dian and the Circle with you."

"The...Circle?"
The mouse again turned to look at the dark metal box. He considered the implications of carrying around the macabre object like it was a simple parcel. The thought alone sent a chill through his spine. But aside from his silent pause, he did not display his discomfort with the artifact. "Very well then, sir. Perhaps it will come in useful. Mr. Dian, you carry it--and do not open it again," he commanded with a grim tone. He looked back towards Li Fang, and simply nodded before he started for the door, motioning for Dian to follow him.
The vanilla rat stuck a hand in his pocket and fumbled with his radio transceiver, but he did not withdraw the device. Dian wasn't going to be enough protection if things went wrong. He wasn't going to allow a repeat of the train incident, he would have back-up this time. Just as soon as he'd get the opportunity to make a discreet call.

"No," interrupted Li Fang before his employees could get far, "don't you see? The point is to open it."
Buh-what? Dian had begun to follow with the box in his grasp, but stopped abruptly, wearing a confused face. Fortunately, his boss explained.
"Take only a very small force. Remain undetected, and open the container at the opportune moment. If this 'Ace' is truly who we think he is, our hired help," by which he meant Tracer and Archer, "will be... outclassed — both by him and his associates. We may consider it an ideal opportunity to test the artifact's effects, and hopefully tip the scales in our side's favor."
