Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

What is your character's name? > Isaac
Species? > Wolf
Age? > 17
Give us a couple paragraphs of general info about your character. For example, what's the character's personality like? What kind of things does he or she do? Why does he or she do it? (Please don't give us your character's point-by-point life history, though.) > Isaac is generally an easygoing guy with a sunny disposition. In fact, it’s normally pretty hard to find an expression other than a smile on his face. He cracks jokes (and cracks wise) very frequently, even if it’s only to himself, and is easy to get laughing. He tends to be a bit of an eccentric and will try “anything interesting” once, no matter how crazy it is. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for his family or a good friend, and he stands by that. He'd risk the universe for the people he cares about. Being quite tenacious, anything he sets his mind to is going to be completed, whether it kills him or not. He’s slow to anger, but when he does get fired up, it’s difficult for him to calm down and regain his composure. He’s also somewhat naïve and perhaps too trusting for his own good at times.
Does your character have any skills or special abilities, a gimmick, or anything that makes it stand out as an athlete or fighter? If so, talk a little about it here. Be sure to include an explanation or origin story for anything unusual, extraordinary, or supernatural. > Isaac is a naturally gifted runner with the mind of a tactician. He is good with delicate machinery, including robots and especially computers. He’s not bad with vehicles either, but he’s certainly not great with them. Unfortunately, his upper-body strength is terrible. The most he can lift is his own (rather low) body weight, and that’s pushing it. Ergo, whenever he gets in a fight, he relies on his speed, gymnastics, acrobatics, and wits to help him. He uses his relatively good reflexes to dodge out of harm’s way until he can either deliver a small flurry of quick, light punches and/or a couple of stronger, more telegraphed kicks. He also has a pair of goggles that he always wears that acts as binoculars, allows him to scan enemies and objects for structural weaknesses, and gives him other various pertinent bits of information. He isn't opposed to fighting dirty if he has to, either. Needless to say, he physically isn’t as good in toe-to-toe confrontations as most people, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hold his own if he gets into trouble.
Does your character have any purpose? (It's okay if you don't have this fully figured out yet, but all the better if your character does have an agenda or some sort of driving force to it to make it interact with other characters.) > Isaac has always enjoyed helping others (hey, doing good feels good). Lately, however, he’s been inspired by the actions of Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. It's given him a drive to make a name for himself, to prove that he's just as good as them. Sure, he knows it's a bit selfish, but he figures it's a win-win situation: people are happier and he gets to prove himself to the public. And sure, he doesn't expect to do any world-saving any time soon, but he'd be more than willing, even eager, to jump in and help if that's what the situation called for.
Does your character have an image? You can post it here, if so (as long as you follow the rules mentioned in the character guidelines). If not, please write a description of your character's appearance. > Isaac has green eyes, pointy ears, brown fur (with a very unkempt bunch of it on top of his head), stands at 124 cm, and is pretty skinny, weighing a mere 30 kg. He almost always wears red fingerless gloves, black sneakers, his aforementioned goggles, and a wrist communicator on his left arm. His other normal attire and accessories consist of a t-shirt, a carpenter's belt and messenger's bag (in both of which he keeps various spare parts, screws, and tools), and cargo shorts.
Will you be around to play your character regularly? (i.e. Keeping daily tabs on any threads you involve yourself in, and posting whenever it's your turn?) > I’ll do my very best, but sometimes things get in the way (writer’s block, school, etc.). I do know about the 48-hour rule, so I will post SOMETHING every day or two, even if it's short. If there is a complication that entirely prevents me from posting, I promise to inform you all of what’s going down.
Do you live in or near the Americas, or elsewhere? (It may be difficult for you to participate in any of the fast-moving sessions if you're only online when the rest of the group is asleep, so we ask this just to be aware of any potential problems.) > Yup. Southeastern United States, that’s me.
Are you okay with having your character information and image on this website (such as on the wiki)? > Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?
What is your name? (Don't post your last name! This forum isn't private!) > Name’s Dylan. Nice to meet you.

This isn't bad. It's one of those things where we could just say, "Yeah, sure, no rules broken, let's run with it" — but I'd rather check something first.
See, there are certain things that official characters can get away with more easily than player-made characters. It's okay for Tails to be some master machinist with no known reason because it's just something a lot of us have grown up with and we take it at face value. He's the little genius kid. Alright. But, for your character to pop in and be a seemingly average guy who is also a tech-head (and apparently a very good one, at that), there should be a supporting reason. Your character is new to the scene, he's not an official, he's doing something a number of other people do, and he's not dazzling anybody with his visual style or depth, so these things will be considered all the more. (No offense, but the guy's wearing a t-shirt, cargos, fingerless gloves, and goggles; this is a recipe often used for barely-glamorized self-insert characters.)
So, in short, a spot of convincing background info on why he's good at what he's good at would help. (This includes why he's also an acrobatic martial artist, to some degree.)
And, the only other pressing concern: Do you feel confident you can reliably play a tech character convincingly in our setting? We have wild scifi elements here, but we do tend to lean on logic more than fantasy in most things. (That is to say, you will be laughed out of the thread if your character just walks up to a secure blast door in some high-tech facility and and nondescriptly "hacks" it.) Basically, if you're going to equip your character with some sort of weakness-seeking goggles, you should be the type of player who thinks about how they're able to work, even if you aren't required to explain it in the profile.
As said before, your character's most likely going to get accepted. Just wanted to clarify before moving forward, and make sure there's some substance here.

Fair enough. Most of that would've been included in the original submitted form, but I felt it would be redundant.
He's good (or perhaps on his way to being good, most of the inventions weren't actually his design) with mechanics because his father was good with them, and he took an interest in it early on. Through experience via helping his dad (now deceased due to a tragic incident two years ago in which an experimental vehicle he was working on was left in neutral; Isaac now lives with his aunt and younger sister), he eventually learned a good bit of his skills, especially when it came to the robots. More were picked up with him just fiddling with old machines that were thrown away or given to him. He's good at acrobatics simply because, being a naturally quick runner, he enjoys running. Or perhaps that's the wrong way around. Anyway, he always enjoyed flitting around the city he grew up in, and performed trial and error with what he could and could not do with the speed he had at his disposal, with some coercion (or dares) from his friends from time to time. As for martial arts, he isn't really a good fighter, he just realizes that going toe to toe with people wouldn't provide the most efficient way to win. So, if he were to get into a fight, he'd back out of the way of the attacks, and come in for a few hits, with his legs being stronger due to more muscle mass (everyone can throw a punch or a kick, his are thrown like any average Joe's would be, only faster).
As for the techie thing... perhaps I wasn't specific enough. I was going to have him be more of an engineer than a "hacker". Sure, he can fiddle with the code and it might get him somewhere, but mostly it'd be only somewhat above basic tactics there. I could play an engineer a little more reliably than a hacker since I do have experience with building computers (I took a class on it and kept my notes), and a little bit with cars.
The goggles work through touch sensitivity, much like an iPod's selection wheel. The binocular function works by enhancing the image that Isaac is looking at, then increasing the resolution accordingly. The image would still be somewhat blurry, but not so much as it would be on a modern computer (hey, no technology is perfect). The scan function will scan what Isaac is looking directly at (they track ocular movement) and really only gives information like structural weaknesses in pillars, robots, etc. They also have a database in which previously obtained information is stored, so they can give weapon information and anything that was put in via wireless communication with a computer. If a sapient being is scanned, it will mostly just give the measurements of their height and how far they could reach with their hands and feet. Enough to predict how easily they could attack from a certain range, although this wasn't the intended purpose of the goggles (they were meant to help in construction or machine-building occupations). I dunno if you needed all this stuff, but here it is for good measure.
If you're wondering why he's in such an outfit, it's because I wanted to give him some style (well, I think it's stylish) without limiting his agility (I looked at the star ratings first, and planned his abilities with those).

Of course, if you still don't think I can do it (honestly, you've cast a shadow of a doubt in my mind as well), I'd be happy to rewrite and resubmit. Or, y'know, just leave. Whatever you think would be best. You're the admin, after all.

The "hacking" thing was just an example to express the spirit of the notion. Not every little intricate detail needs to be explained, but nondescriptly "fixing" something that is broken would be just as bad, obviously. It seems you quite well understand that, so we're all good here. You don't need to feel defensive about it or anything; I wasn't trying to offend. It's just a problem we've had in the past that I think we'd all prefer to avoid repeating, if you get my drift. Really, I love tech characters, and I wish people would submit more of them since they're so useful in a Sonic RP setting like ours, but it sure is easy to mess them up. That's why we're cautious about what we accept. You're okay, though, so just... chill. Anyway, your big description of the device was nice and all, and it shows that you were thinking about a lot of things, but it also shows that you didn't think to mention how the single most important, most game-altering core feature works: How it identifies structural weaknesses. That's the kind of thing that would seemingly require some sort of artificial intelligence, or some sort of impossibly all-encompassing database to cross-reference visuals with, or some sort of process to try to simulate structures and basically autocad them on the fly to estimate their durability, and so on, and so forth. It's a heavily sci-fi Sonic RP, so most of that is reasonable. It's just that this is the kind of thing you need to think about if you're going to use some kind of Automatic Boss Weakness Finder. Really, though, please don't seriously answer the question, and don't bother explaining anything more. Perish the thought I would make you write an essay about some obscure tech your character has in order to join or to use it. Just consider it more a thought exercise, and something to say, "Hey, this is the kind of thing you should think about if you want to really convincingly play a super-technologically-adept character." If you accept this part of the challenge, then we're more than ready to accept your character. Starting an article here. IsaacLet someone know whenever you're done tinkering with it, or if you have any questions or issues at all.
