It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

The little freighter set out just five minutes after everyone boarded.
It was dreary, quiet affair at first. Their pilot was long gone, along with the rest of the crew and everybody else who had been abducted. Rock, one arm barely working, one half of his head in bandages, and both eyes blurred with medicine and the distance of deep thought, was the closest thing they had to a pilot capable of handling a craft of that size and complexity. He seemed like he knew what he was doing, though—that was putting it lightly. He laid out procedures with a cold, heavy air of authority. He was on a spacecraft, on its bridge; this was what he was trained for more than anything else. Sitting at the helm in his full dark-blue-uniform spacesuit, helmet on and sling removed, it was hard to tell there was ever anything wrong with him.
They emerged from the shadow of the ARK, drifting through noiseless space with only the hum of the engines. There was weightlessness inside the vessel. The crew's substitute pilot had disabled all artificial gravity generation, including inertial compensation. He said he didn't trust it.
The dark, dim-lit bridge, with its rectangular windscreen panels and vividly-glowing console, was suddenly a scary looking thing, easily identifiable for what it truly was: a fragile mess of electronics, steel, polymer, and glass that would soon serve to narrowly separate them from a horrific, fiery death during atmospheric entry. The chamber, with its low ceiling and narrow overall width, still had enough seats to accommodate pretty much everyone. Badge, the only other member of the crew with any piloting experience, had been asked to sit alongside at the helm, ready to take over if anything went wrong. Everyone else had been distributed without much concern, save for Tau, who always seemed to find his greatest usefulness at the ship's sensor array, and Jam, who was told bluntly to sit as far away from the console as possible. (Her latent EM field, though not powerful enough to be a hazard, didn't play nicely with the instrument panel.) It didn't really matter where everyone was, though, as long as they were buckled in. They had their headset radios in their helmets to keep them in contact.
The planet grew in their vision until its spherical surface began to take on the proper appearance of a horizon. Its sheer enormity, glowing vibrant blue against the black depths of space, only then became truly apparent.
"We're gonna be entering the atmosphere at about 29,000 kilometers per hour," Rock's voice, raspy with fatigue, suddenly broke the silence through everyone's radios. "We're goin' in hot—keepin' this quick so we don't present an easy target. That means this won't be comfortable." He began procedures for entry. Switches flipped and clacked; the cockpit lights went out entirely. Thrusters fired, and the ship groaned loudly as it began to tilt very steeply upward in a disorienting fashion. "Peak deceleration may reach well over 10 G, so keep your lower bodies tense, keep the blood goin' to your head, and stay with us."
Suddenly, a steady, slow drum beat came through as some calm, smoky, classic blues-rock tune began to thrum through the ship.
"... And the music's so you don't have to hear the ship creak like we're about to... break apart, 'n... die," he added, as if an afterthought.
They very well may have soon been thankful for it as the shaking and rumbling began, the golden, fiery glow washed over the windscreen, and, contrary to all sensibility, it suddenly felt as though they were racing up a vindictive, supernatural elevator at a million miles per hour, smashed into their seats like lemons being juiced while their unaffected pilot made casual, weaving, snaking (utterly nauseating) turns left, to right, to left, to right, over and over to bleed off speed like a slaloming skier.
...
Somehow, over the sound of the reentry, the bluesy soundtrack Rock had supplied, and the flapping of his own lips, Ace could be heard growling aloud: "You're gonna make me hate this song...!"

Jam spent a good few minutes in the back of the back play sulking at having been told to GTFO, but quickly grew bored with it, and very nearly nodded off until a voice in her head(set) roused her with a thankfully figurative jolt.
"Great," she groaned, mostly to herself. "Like a commercial jet landing on crack... under a magnifying glass."
Fishing a long ago flavor-depleted piece of Überbübble from beneath her tongue (she'd started it preemptively, while suiting up), the once again biosuited simian set her jaw to work at the ABC gum, and settled herself just as far back into her seat as physics would permit, knowing that a failure to do so could later prove painful. Contracting any and every muscle she had conscious control over, the monkey closed her eyes, and breathed out slowly and deeply, as her hands drifted upward, fingers following the music's bassline up and down an imaginary fretboard.
"Passengers," she transmitted in the cool, professional tone of a flight attendant, save the audible grin in her voice. "Please note that if needed, air discomfort bags are located around your head. You would be advised not to use them."

A weak chuckle was heard over the radio from the hedgehog, not from fatigue but nervousness.
"Yeah, thanks for the heads up," he said, throwing a glance towards the pink simian's way, although his face was mostly obscured under the dark visor of his helmet. "But I think the upcoming gravity is going to be my main concern right now."
Geoff released a long, deep breath. "Or, ya know, the possible missile barrage."
He could easily trust the injured, drugged up monkey on piloting the ship... somehow. What was disconcerting was the downward spiral of their luck in the past few hours. Whatever had been harassing them for this long could maybe smack them right out of the sky, like taking out a persistent bug with a fly swatter. The image was disturbing really, but he supposed he could hang on to some sort of hope of safety.
Believing his comment to be one too weighted down with dread, he added on.
"Sorry, never have gone through reentry. Don't foresee it being a pleasant first experience, right? But hey, if we get through this, at least we'll be the first group in history to step foot on a foreign planet."

It may have felt excruciating, but it wasn't long-lived. Their speed was brought to a manageable level quite quickly, and soon, they were blasting down through the stratosphere and beyond.
They were over the uninhabited—or, at least, undeveloped—side of the planet. It looked to be either dusk or dawn, but it was probably hard for the passengers to tell which on an alien world without any frame of reference for what was north and south, or which way the planet rotated.
Rock was silent through the previous banter, and remained that way now. They had no idea what to expect, so it was considerably more stressful than flying over empty countryside should have been. They were finally low enough to start taking in the scenery—and low enough to take fire, if there was going to be any aimed at them.

For the more observant viewer, the dim lighting of the fading/incoming day would show a series of plains blurring by below, random streams breaking the monotony of rolling, grass covered hills. More specific details were hard to be seen at their height and the dimness of the sky, but the area laid out below them was now obvious. It was peaceful looking, for the most part.
Yet something ignited in a fiery red out in the distance. At first, it could easily be mistaken as some sort of weapon at first glance, perhaps a small missile directed at them, but this would be a false presumption. The streak of red continued upward into the sky before bursting into a more intense glare. To anyone with the right knowledge, it appeared to be a signal flare.
The new light began to float gradually down, maintaining its intensity for the moment, marking its location in the sky.

Hoji made sure to fasten his safety harness and held onto his seat with both hands as they began their atmospheric entry. Good thing he went to the bathroom, because as much faith as he put in their maimed white monkey's piloting abilities, it didn't make the endeavor any less nerve-wracking.
Once things smoothed out, he looked out the windows. The flare wasn't hard to spot, "A flare?" Was all he could come up with to say, meanwhile incoherent questions went through his mind. No one present could know why, or who, or whatever, so he didn't bother asking.
"I hope that's not signaling more bad luck..."

When the elevator up to Hell had finally ceased its ascension, Ace felt like he'd been allowed his first breath after being submerged 2,100 leagues under the sea. Once it was over, he found himself blinking rapidly, as if assuring himself that yes, this was the real world, and now, they were well on their way to their worldly rescue mission. And thank goodness they had noticed that flare, because scouring an entire planet for a handful of civilians would not be how he pictured spending the rest of his years. (Although how did might hardly be any more pleasant.)
"...That's pretty damn convenient," he mumbled over the radio, still not 100% spite-free of the ride there. "You think the robots are clever enough to lead us into a trap?"
Brief silence.
"No offense Tau."

"Of course it's a trap."
Rodolf's voice came over the radio signal, for the first time since boarding. The remark came through fairly quiet and indistinct, as though it were something more of an aside, or a comment to himself. The 'after all, everything else has been' (or something to that effect) went unstated, but implied by his tone.
He seemed unamused, a word which here meant incredibly grumpy-- he hadn't said a word and seemed positively intent on continuing right on with a tight-lipped demeanor.

Being in the far back of the bridge, and well away from all but a sliver of a view out the rearmost side window, Jam grew increasingly frustrated as the chatter built up in her headset about... something. She wasn't certain precisely what, but the topic to talk about seemed to be whether it was good or bad; a call for help, or a trap.
As the opinions flew about, the monkey huffed forcefully, rigidly shifting in her seat as she made her conversational presence known.
"Does it matter if it's a trap or not? It's a thing, and it's doin' something, which is more than can be said about any of the rest of the planet we've seen."
She paused to tug impatiently at her safety restraints, but thought better of removing them for the time being, adding in a lower tone, "We knew goin' in we lack the home field advantage; we're as armed and ready as we're gonna be."

"We might as well give it a chance," spoke up Sheffer as he too spotted the flare outside. "We might be on their turf now, but this place is barren as heck. We're miles from that city, ya know. Unless they just somehow know the exact place we would try to land."
The hedgehog shifted some in his seat, trying to become comfortable now that they were at fairly slower speeds.
"Unless Tau can give us the specifics of what's down there, I say go for it. We don't have much to lose trying to figure out what we can find over there."

"Nice'a you to volunteer to scout, greenhorn," Rock finally chimed in, addressing Geoff with an utter dearth of enthusiasm. The primate then altered course, dropping their altitude and pitching the whole ship into a steep turn to point the its starboard-side windows toward the ground for a better look at where the flare had come from.
The flare's smoke trail hadn't drifted far. It was still pretty easy to trace. The region was surrounded by rolling hills and wasn't overly vegetated (save for grass), but the area immediately under the flare did have a lot of craggy rocks and ravines, and wasn't the most hospitable landing zone. There were no visible threats, though, and fortunately, they were flying a VTOL craft, so any flat surface large enough to accommodate them would do.
Without further ado, Rock picked a smooth clearing on the other side of a ridge (i.e. not in direct line of fire of where the flare was launched, just in case) and brought the ship in low over the ground, blasting and scorching the grass flat, and set it down with a nice, solid crunch. He also managed to crush a tree sapling in the process. He really didn't care. The engines let out their descending whine as they wound down, and lights came on all throughout the inside of the ship. The fasten seatbelts light extinguished. (Yes, it actually had one. Yes, Rock actually utilized it. He didn't take any chances with some of their crew.)
"Tau, Jam and I'll guard the ship and keep it runnin'," he decided. The freighter was their lifeline. He wasn't going to leave it unattended.
"Wh-..." Juke gasped a heavy breath. He still hadn't fully recovered from the reentry. "Hey, bro..." He swallowed. "What about... the rest of us."
He had been relegated to one of the flip-down extra seats at the back of the bridge. He was still tightly strapped into it, fingers digging into the seatbottom with a white-knuckle grip.
"I'm only givin' orders on this ship," he replied, shrugging and indifferent. "I won't be responsible for anybody gettin' killed off it. Stay, or go on excursion with Hawkins. Your call."
The bat, hiding in the depths of his ill-fitting spacesuit, seemed to be in no hurry to pry himself out of his chair.

The white monkey's sudden comment was at first a bit out of the blue, but Geoff gradually came to terms with the new assignment. Yeah, he could be agitated about Rock's general lack of assertiveness and complete avoidance to be the one to explore, but he supposed the guy had enough running around for one lifetime, burdened with the injuries he already was sustaining. Besides, the hedgehog had brought this onto himself anyway. Might as well dig up some courage and learn what the source of the flare was.
Unstrapping himself from his seat, he stood on stiff legs, a result of the prolonged and G-inducing flight. Stretching out a bit as he stood, he glanced over to the cowering bat.
"C'mon," he began, giving Juke a sturdy pat on the shoulder. "You could stay here on guard with the dynamic duo and their robot friend, or come with us. Either way, there's a chance both groups are going to get ambushed at some point."
Working his way through the ship without another word, he gave a button a smack, the exiting door opening for him. Still donning the spacesuit (he had no idea what the atmosphere was like outside), he stepped right on out to the grassy (albeit burnt) ground.
"One small step for man..."

Hoji unbuckled his harness, having read Rock's statement as him being part of the Away Team once again. He looked at Juke as he passed, his smirk hidden behind his heroic helm.
"You're not wearin' a red shirt. Relax." He said jokingly before stepping out of the shuttle to one side of Geoff.
He scanned the area around them. A whole lot of nothing to behold, but they had a point of origin to investigate.
Badge looked back to see who else would be tagging along.

Jam had cast off her oppressive bonds moments before the fasten seatbelt went out, and was on her feet, and stretching her legs out of the idle atrophy sustained from the maybe half-hour long flight. While she'd have probably liked to be on the recon team this time around, the black and green-clad primate understood why Rock had opted to keep her and the hedgehog separated; screaming matches didn't tend to fall under the definition low profile .
She lightly clapped Ace on the shoulder, offering a succinct nod in parting, but ultimately contributed nothing to the conversation at hand.
"Hey, chief," she interjected instead. "Do I need a leash or something to keep the ship safe from me? Where'm I allowed to go on this boat?"

Surprisingly, Juke was compliant enough about going—even brushing Geoff's encouraging, patting hand away all tough-guy-like (albeit jovially). "Ehh! I'm comin', I'm comin'."
He too was soon heading down the ramp, out across the cinders that were once called grass. Once he reached some actual living plants, he did a... surprisingly thoughtful thing, kneeling and examining some flora.
"Dandelions 'n clovers," he noted aloud. "Normal-lookin' grass, too... Weird, ain't it?"
Alas, he had no educated conclusion to come to based on that, other than the notion that it was in fact strange that the planet was clearly not Earth, not even an alternate Earth judging by its appearance, but it still had recognizable stuff. He picked himself up and moved at a quick trot to keep up. After all, they were out in the field, and it was action time. (If he had been Sonic, this would have been the beginning of a zone. Except... Sonic wasn't wearing a terrible, chaffing orange spacesuit... and tripping every couple steps in poorly-fitting spaceboots...)
Rock meanwhile removed his helmet, not only for comfort, but to escape his own microphone for a bit, so he could talk in peace without being overheard. (He kept the ship's radio on so he could at least hear any emergency calls, though.)
"It's fine now," he replied with a stretch and sigh. "Just best to stay away from the instruments while we're in motion."
