It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

A new day. The smell of breakfast, the clatter of dishes from the kitchen, a bustling household of attendants and house guests... Castle Fremont had become a busy place since the crew had arrived for their investigation.

The baron, the owner of the castle, was... interesting, in a way. He seemed down-to-earth and normal, but as anyone who saw fit to accompany him that morning would find, he seemed to have a particular way about him—certain morning rituals that continued regardless of what was going on, or how heavy the situation was. Fencing on the lawn was one of them. Today, however, he didn't have his usual sparring partner.

The baron stepped out the front door to the courtyard. A dark, wine-colored automobile (the one that had been tarped and covered on their previous visits) was sitting, idling, the steward Deverell at the wheel. Though it had only been recently uncovered and started, flecks of white snow were beginning to accumulate on its hood and roof, coming down from the grey sky. It a new blanket of snow was already forming on the ground. So much for the sunny weather of the previous day.

"Deverell!" called Dureau, waving a hand.

The white ermine, spitting image of Dureau that he was, rolled down the window of the car and gave the baron a blank, maybe slightly tired look. "Yes, monsieur?"

Dureau jogged across the cobblestone—a quick, but very erect and stately cape-fluttering jog, of course—up to the window, épée in hand. "No fencing today?"

"Forgive me, monsieur," replied Deverell, nearly monotone. "I have errands in Mersey, and I feel a bit ill today. I'm going to see the doctor."

"Oh," replied the baron with a blink, then stood straight. "As you were, then. Good day—feel better."

"Thank you. Good day, monsieur."

And with that, Deverell drove off. Dureau stood there for a moment, intently thoughtful about something.

This thread (and, subsequently, this in-character day) may be short, assuming things work out the way I expect them to. It's just to drop a few details. Remember, I'm pretty detail-crazy. Everything has meaning. Well, almost everything... Anyway, feel free to place characters as you wish. They can go anywhere and do anything, or just hang around for the time being. As before, I will adapt the story around whatever you guys do.

Ivan was fresh out of bed and helped himself to a plate of eggs, toast and bacon. With plate in hand, he headed out to the courtyard to see another display of graceful fencing between gentlemen. Something he found quite...cute for lack of a better word.

He scooped up a forkfull of scrambled eggs as he walked outside and shoveled them into his mouth, just in time to see Dureau's sparring partner leave.

"Arr... Did I miss the match?" He asked with a mouth full of egg and disappointment.

"Hm?" Dureau blinked, snapped out of his haze, and looked to the rabbit. "Oh. No," he answered and looked back across the empty lawn, just a bit disappointed. "No partner today."

He sighed. "Deverell is the only member of the household who likes to fence—aside from Luc. Luc is always much too busy in the morning, though."

"NO PARTNER?"

Oh, no.

"Why, this travesty shall not stand!"

... oh, no.

Dashing onto the scene with his usual absolutely stunning lack of subtlety was one Sir Corin, very likely to the surprise of few and the delight of none. (It was really just a mystery of where he came from, since he seemed to have sprung out from nowhere.) He bore, as usual, his characteristic gigantic spear, the other hand toted a far-less-ornate épée for his own part.

Really, it was a mystery where he was getting this stuff.

He floundered for a moment as he tried to coordinate what hand to put which armament in, and only after a ten-second scramble did he manage to put his spear in his (non-dominant) left hand and the short sword in his right. Then and only then did he brandish it with a flourish, pointing its tip straight to the sky.

"Good morning, fellows!"

Why, a shark groaning "someone make him go away" could almost be heard from somewhere inside the castle.

Jack had been up for a while, even with how early it was, she seemed unsettled, siting at the table in the garden writing things down in her little notepad. She reviewed what she'd written for the hundredth time, when she spotted Dureau and his... servant. Jack eyed him a little tapping her pencil on her pad.

Finally she stood up and approached Dureau while Corin fuddled with his weapons. "Hold yer horses Sir Corin, I need to talk to the Baron a moment." She said raising a hand to the overly enthusiastic madman.

"Dureau... are you uh, any relation to Deverell?"

It was a good thing Dureau already knew Sir Corin well, otherwise he would have likely declined the offer like any other sane person. Instead, he was about to politely accept (and with gusto—Corin was probably the most entertaining sparring partner on the planet).

"Why, good morning, Sir Corin," he had greeted with a smile and small bow... until Jack come over, and he froze.

He looked disarmed by the question. Silence hung in the air, thick as the fat snowflakes collecting on his red hat's brim, while he stared unblinking. Then, suddenly, he smiled again.

"Miss Cl—... Jack," he corrected himself, "may we discuss this a bit later? In private?"

Ivan

Ivan canted his head, hanging his fork from his mouth when Sir Corin entered the scene. Ivan was about 3 seconds from issuing a challenge of his own, but oh well. Last thing Ivan needed was to let his food get cold before he could finish it. He dug the fork back into his eggs and scooped another forkfull into his mouth.

Then Jack begun the interrogations. The question obviously knocked Dureau off his comfort zone for a moment. That certainly made Ivan curious. However, at the moment, he was a bit too focused on finishing breakfast to push for answers just yet.

He set the fork down on his plate and picked up one of the strips of bacon and chomped down.

A little late, Ember finally appeared on the scene with a half-eaten waffle clutched in her gloved hand. She started to greet her good friend Jacky before she noticed how tense the scene was before them. Shoving the last bit of waffle in her beak and swallowing, she stood and waited for things to progress.

Jacky Jack was a cop and it was about time she did cop things. The bird couldn't think that this would be rather entertaining to watch.

Jacks eyes narrowed a a little on the Baron at his response. There was a long pause where she nor anyone else said anything, then she waved a dismissive hand.

"Alright... But," She started looking carefully at the baron, then pointed a thumb over her shoulder at Ivan. "I think you'd get a better work-out against Ivan. No offense Corin."

"Perhaps our swashbuckler can have a go at the winner if he likes, then. Hm?" replied Dureau, looking brightly between Jack and the rabbit in question. Then, with no further delay, he headed out onto the white lawn to enjoy his little morning game with his first challenger.

"Give me your best, Sir Corin, and make it fast," said the baron distractedly under his breath as he drew out his light, thin practice épée and examined it quickly. "We have a lot we need to learn today."

Inactivity rules in motion (a little belatedly). I'm not going to play anything out from Corin, so I will just assume things happened and that he went on his merry way.

It certainly didn't take long. As poised and and skilled as the baron may have looked, his spar with Corin lasted all of a few seconds. It seemed his form was good, and his footwork was good, but he just... wasn't quite aggressive enough to do anything except get backed up by the other fighter's dramatic onslaught, then get poked in the gut.

Ivan's duel was over similarly quickly, but with inverse results. No one could be quite sure whether or not the rabbit had cheated (it did not look like he employed any typical fencing methods, suffice to say), but there was no disputing the stabby outcome. It was a good thing the swords were blunted.

"Well, with the home team now thoroughly embarrassed," started Dureau, in good humor, "we should probably get started."

So, what did they have on the agenda?

Well, they had been attacked by some mysterious freaks, but had no leads. There was still a robot lying in shambles in a butcher's shop (also lying in shambles), and no one had really investigated its remains. At the baron's request, the police had set up a perimeter to protect the evidence, but had been told to touch nothing.

Meanwhile, there remained the other victims' homes and workplaces that Luc had marked on their maps... and, lastly, Jack's curious questioning.

It was hard to say if anything would come of the day, but they had a little more to go on than yesterday, anyway.

Jack smirked a bit as Dureau gracefully accepted defeat twice. She was impressed with Corin, sure, but Ivan was really stealing the show. Jack wasn't sure what to make of the pirate. All she knew for certain was that he was a powerful, well armed hare with questionable motivations and morals.

"Alright, well, We got jumped pokein' 'round the workplace of one of the victims. It stands ta reason that these varmints where there fer somethin'... That they probably got. I'd like ta take a look at that robot or for some blood from the suspect I shot." She sighed a bit. This area probably couldn't even do a DNA test. Which was frustrating for the officer. "At any rate, the other work places are worth investagating, if the first was any indication..." Jack said to the group looking thoughtful. "Anyone who cares to come I'm gonna head to the next work place ta snoop."

She put her effects into her pockets and paused looking at the Baron one last time. "You uh, don't have any firearms do ya? I miss my pistol."

Dureau bit the inside of his lip thoughtfully, then answered, "Actually, I do have my uncle's old service pistol." He looked over his shoulder, toward the house. "Lu—"

"Already on it, sir!" called the butler merrily from the front doorstep, shuffling hurriedly along.

Dureau blinked, returned his (subtly amused) gaze to Jack, smiled, and shrugged. "It may not be what you're used to... It is accurate, though."

It seemed like only seconds before the little groundhog butler, wine-colored coattail flapping, half-shuffled, half-jogged back out to them. He held out an ornate cherrywood box with brass fixtures, then flipped its lid open to present its contents to the lady.

The golden sheriff grinned as the groundhog scurried back over, but the contents of the box left her mouth agape.

"Yer kiddin' me." She said shocked looking at the gun in its case with its accessories. "I feel kinda bad barrowin' it. The one I had was stolen, and the ones before that got blown up. I wont be hurt if ya'd rather keep it...intact." She gave him one last chance at take-backs before he was likely never going to see the weapon again.

"All it does is sit in its box, anyway," replied Dureau dismissively as he plucked the pistol up held it out to her. "Uncle hasn't so much as looked at since the war. I'm the only one who 'plays' with it anymore."

Long-barreled and sleek, yet completely foreign looking, the pistol was definitely a piece of craftsmanship. Well-loved (which is to say a bit worn, scratched, and nicked) and well-oiled, and hand-machined to exacting precision, where it pointed was pretty much where the bullet would go, within a reasonable range. By either coincidence or dumb luck, its grip angle was such that it pointed very naturally like the single-action army revolvers Jack was accustomed to.

He went to load up one of the weapon's magazines for her, but took noticeable pause when he noticed that all three were already topped off.

"... Have these been loaded all this ti—"

"I took care of it a moment ago, sir," replied Luc, chipper and proud of himself as ever.

With a welp tilt of his head, and an under-the-breath commendation of "... very good, then," the baron, who never seemed to get quite used to Luc's productivity, despite living with him, procured the other magazines and turned them over to Jack's care.

"Shall we, then?"
