It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

"I can help too," Teck proposed, taking a single step with a slightly raised hand. "Other than... Mr...eh, the gentleman in white," he referred to Rock, having still never heard his name. "I also have a knack for computers so I can probably help out if there are any technical problems, albeit you seem to have that covered quite well, laddy."
Quite frankly, he didn't know what he was getting himself into, but if there was a chance for Teck to show his quality, then he'd always take it, especially considering the fool he's made of himself thus far.

Tails looked from the one to the other.
"Yeah, I guess could use someone to watch the other instruments for me... I mean, If there are any technical problems, we'll probably be okay, but there's a magnetometer I installed on the Tornado that'll watch under the surface of the waves for anything really weird made out of metal down there--like, if there's a submarine down there, or something like one of Eggman's bases, it'll be big enough to show up on the screen. Maybe it'd be better if someone could watch that for me, since I'm gonna be having to watch the instruments for anything out in the fog..."

Rock had been quietly cleaning his gloves off with a wet rag, half-listening as Tails, Ace, and Teck went over who was going to go on the flight. Something must have sprang back to his mind, though.
"Speaking of technical problems," he interjected in a not-entirely-comforting tone as he walked toward the front of the plane, "there's a lil' issue with your propeller I wanted to go over with you before you take off." He tossed the rag aside. "This," he said as he rapped on a blade with his knuckle, "was bent about 40° backwards—Way beyond safe repairable range. Add to it that you've got some sort of funky, retractable hollow-core dealy goin' on here, and, well..."
He forced a smile.
"I 'fixed' it. And by that, I mean it is now pointing approximately the right direction and 'looks' like what an optimistic person might call 'fixed.' So, uh, you're just... you're not gonna be able to stress it. Let's put it that way. ... Oh, and it'll definitely fail to retract properly, and probably just break off when you transform. ..."
Was he finished?
"Oh, and—" He stopped short. "Well, that's actually all the important stuff... Just let me know when you're ready to go, and I'll help push you out."

Tails chewed on the inside of his cheek and stared pensively forward to where the prop was affixed to the front of the aircraft.
"Yy--" he began. He stopped and looked back at Rock, then back at the front of the plane.
"Yeeeeah."
"I--I guess we're ready... We just really need to decide who goes in the back."

Ace scratched the back of his head and let out a quiet grumble, and if one was looking at him especially hard for whatever reason, they might see a faint twitch in his brow, as well. As the day went on, he found himself more and more detached from the whole thing. While he wasn't the impatient type, between the techno-babble, the stink-babble, and the good old babble-babble, he was starting to wonder if a solution to the ever-growing list of problems would ever arise.
"Count me outta that. I don't get half the stuff you guys are talkin' about. I'm best out scouting on the wing."

"On the wing," Rock echoed with a very brief, restrained, sputtering laugh. It faded as he quickly realized Ace was serious, though.
Could he really do that?
Rock must have thought so, because he said nothing more of it.
"... Help me push this thing out," the monkey finally requested as he stepped to the plane's side, grabbed a push-safe part of the lower wing near to the fuselage, and started rolling it out of the garage. It was time for them to get underway and get the job done. The street was still clear from the painstaking process they had to go through to get the plane to the shop in the first place, so Tails would be able to crank it up and hit the skies straight out from the curb. Nothing was left but to start it up and get outta there.
(OOC: Which is to say, John, feel free to move straight to the sky with this scene as quickly as you'd like. PLOT PROGRESSION POWER.)

The take-off had happened without--well, very nearly without incident. As soon as the plane had started, the whole frame had been seized by a tremendous vibration. The whole thing began shaking violently, as if gripped by some seizure. Tails had managed through chattering teeth to explain that it w-w-w-w-w-w-was b b-b-b b-bec-c-cause t-h-he p-propellor was out-o-ut-t-t of b-b-b-balance, and that as soon as they managed to get the jets started the shaking would stop.
This was true, although no sooner had Tails started the transformation sequence than did Rock's prediction come true. There was a tremendous wrench and a scream of stressed metal and the propeller blade had sheared off and ricocheted off the inside of the housing for the collapsed prop, before launched out and landing with a splash in the ocean below. There was very little hope of finding it.
About this time the jets had kicked in and the shaking stopped. The fog was looming up ahead like a big, milky wall, churning around in on itself out over the ocean, but the Tornado turned up, and up, and up, and up, cutting a smooth arc through the air until it leaped up above the fog and out into the cloud-fields, where the sun still shone. The tornado was battered and blasted by the waves, but it still held wonderful time as they soared across the whipped-cotton landscape.
Tails turned his attention away from the sky for a moment, and began to watch the controls. He pressed a few buttons on what appeared to be a touch screen, and began flipping switches. A line appeared at the top of the screen. The line began moving down the screen, leaving behind a peculiar image that stayed on the monitor as the line scrolled downwards, revealing a shadowy, fragmented image of the ocean below.
He turned his attention to another set of controls, and began working on them, as the stop-motion silhouettes of the rolling waves underneath began to fill the radar screen.

Tails and his little flying circus buddies weren't the only ones on the move. Down on the ground, a slightly homely-looking convertible raced through cluttered yet unpopulated city streets, weaving between abandoned vehicles, fallen telephone poles and street lights, and hunks of building debris. Its engine let out a buzzy whine as its driver downshifted a little early going into a turn around a nearly 90-degree city street corner, and the whole vehicle lurched, gradually lost traction, and screeched at a shallow angle onto the sidewalk, and into a row of parking meters. * PLANGPLANGPLANG.* The car came to a halt just in time to not run into a tree. "Sorry," apologized the driver to his bright red passenger, half amused, half spooked silly himself. He popped it into reverse, backed up enough to steer clear of the obstruction, then shifted back into first with a noisy grind from its gearbox and short-lived yelp from its tires.
"Freakin' tires. Totally bald."
Yeah, like that was the only thing wrong. Woe be to the owner of the vehicle; Rock had "borrowed" its keys from behind the counter at the auto shop. He had someplace to get to fast, and hoped to get back in time to meet Tails and the others when they landed, but at their present rate of progress, it might not have been possible.

"Eh," replied the passenger-side primate, just a bit too casually, though she subtly retracted her deathgrip from the sides of her bucket seat. "I've seen worse."
Doubtlessly, Rock knew that Jam had indeed not only seen worse, but caused worse (most memorably on her first two road tests, too), which might have explained her unusual nonchalance at taking out a row of innocently by-standing parking meters, and very nearly marring their burly arboreal friend.
"But fer the sake o'the huge hurry we seem to be in, maybe we oughta steal som'n with nice, hairy tires so we can get wherever we're goin'?"

"That would involve stealing," replied Rock with an air of correction—Only to add, "That'd take too much effort."
Fortunately, their path seemed to clear out and smooth out as they hit the open highway and made tracks past a big, green sign that read:
"SPRING CITY"
"The keys were just layin' out behind the counter for this one, so it was more like... borrowin'. And a lot easier."

So what was it that the passengers of the Tornado saw up there above the fog?
The radar image was hard to read thoroughly on a little screen, but one thing was clear: There was a whole island in the fog. Shaped vaguely like some big, jagged crown, the small landmass had sharp, rocky-looking peaks, and a lake, or hole, or reservoir of some sort at its center. There appeared to already be plant life on it, somehow, as well, even though the place couldn't have risen from the ocean any more than a matter of days ago. The most interesting find, however, was that small, sand-bar-like dots of land littered a long, nearly straight path from the island to the shore, like a barely-submerged land bridge.
A point of access? It could be, and it probably had been already for the robots that dragged into town earlier that day and the previous night.
Now, the screen Teck had been tasked with watching wasn't quite as sharp. It was the magnetic anomaly detector, and its readout was something more abstract than the monochromatic, photorealistic view Tails had. Instead, variations in color showed where metallic objects potentially were beneath the aircraft.
At first, there wasn't much but static, but soon, it seemed like something started interfering with the detector, or it started malfunctioning, because they soon flew over a single, bright, large dot just offshore the island, which then proceeded to expand until it filled the whole screen until it was improbably large and obscured everything else.

OOC: Special guest appearance by Matt.
"Tomato, tomahto," replied the reddish monkey in a tone that wasn't nearly as antagonistic as it may have likely come across. "Whatever helps y'sleep at night."
After checking the security of her lap belt under the guise of a fidgety shift, Jam set her elbow atop her open window, and deposited her cheek into its palm, wistfully eying a glossy jet black sports coupe rapidly shrinking into her rear view mirror.
"F'it was me," she pressed ineffectively, "an' it was, like... I dunno, hypothetically the robot-zombie-vampire apocalypse, or something crazy like that, I wouldn't care too much about m'car, y'know. I mean, if I left it at all, I prolly ain't even in town anymore anyway, right?"
Rock glanced from the road to Jam very briefly, but didn't answer. His eyelids slid tiredly half shut, and he just... frowned, and kept driving. It was his silent way of reinforcing no, I'm not going to stop and steal a better car.
And not only could Jam interpret it down to syllabic inflection and punctuation, but she had her own nonverbal means to communicate her concession that Rock probably knew just as well. Some kind of cross between a pout and grimace tugged the corners of her mouth downward in perfect synchronization with her subtly worsening posture, while her arms wove their way across her chest.
"No, I know; I like the Crapriolet... just, y'know, tires... unsafe... yeah."
But even she could hear the viscous lie coating her every word, and was more than ready to stick a fork in that conversation.
"So what's in Spring City?"

Ace leaned one foot on the wing next to him, his fingers wrapped around the side much more tightly than it appeared to be at a glance. The other foot rested on the body with... relative comfort. The plane was obviously designed for only two people, but go figure, Ace improvised with it. He was... adaptable. Or at least he kept telling himself that.
Truth be told, he couldn't adapt very well to the propeller blade falling the hell off and into the endless blue yonder. The best response available response for that was to express his concern and mutter something to the extent of "Well, that's not good." The following transformation was actually dealt with easily enough (although hardly easily), and Ace decided to count his blessings (they hadn't malfunctioned and exploded in a fiery blaze yet, after all) and enjoy the ride.
When the jets started off, so too did the cat.
"OoooooooHHHHHHWWWHOOOOOAAAA-HA-HA-HAA!"--- Elsewhere, a certain ivory mole was quite content with all the excitement she was getting already... and maybe a little more than that. Unlike Jam, her kung-fu grip still hadn't quite been released from the edges of the back seat. And while she wasn't screaming her head off, her slightly widened eyes and tightly pressed lips easily gave away how she felt about it should anyone take a look. ...Not that that was terribly likely to happen, the two monkeys she was with sitting in front of her.
"Ooooohhh my goodness gracious." Cough. "Well, I'd totally be cool with something more... Uh, well-protected...?" Her head followed the sign she passed as she spoke. "Also, I forgot. Why are we goin' all the way out here, again? It wasn't important, was it? Oh, I just bet it was important."

Rock did a wide-eyed double take; he had somehow almost forgotten the mole in the back seat since she'd been so quiet. (Gee, wonder why? Surely nothing to do with his driving. [They were about to break 120MPH at that moment, the little convertible's buzzing engine and tiny wheels permitting.])
"Home," he replied simply, but in a yell over the noise of the wind. Knowing the answer was less than satisfactory, he soon expounded. "A gun, a change of clothes,..." He glanced at Jam. "Your XG scooter, my bike... Maybe a quick shower, if I've got time..."
He was not fond of being so filthy, but, hey, them's the breaks when in adventure mode, right?
They were already practically in Spring City no later than they had read the sign; it wasn't a far drive, and with the highway mostly clear (since there was no traffic going into or leaving town by that point), they were able to truck it at well over a hundred miles per hour. Notably, there was a police blockade intended to keep people from getting into Central City, but it wasn't on their side of the split highway, so it wasn't a problem.
"Once the guys get back, we'll need a safe way to get to whatever they find out there, and Gears are the fastest means of water travel I can think of. ... I'm just hopin' mine still works... Haven't started the thing up in like... a year..."

"Sounds like a pretty packed schedule," commented the wind-tousled simian with a frown, half-yawning at the break in conversation. With a surreptitious glance over her shoulder to their passenger in tow, she added at an inaudible sigh, "Guess we don' have time, anyway..."
Whatever that was, her attention was quickly diverted as Rock continued his briefing, and for half an irrelevant second, she pondered the other primate's usage of the blanket term "the guys," wondering if Teck was included, before refocusing on the matter at hand.
"Gears?" she repeated, sounding mildly concerned. Jam wasn't the best boarder out there, mind you, but she could stay upright (most of the time), so as her thoughts and eyes once again drifted rearward, it was apparent that her concern followed both.
"When you say 'we,'" she began in a carefully inoffensive tone, "Y'mean you and me... annnnd...?"
