Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

Tau had silently made use of the time it took Rock to open the panel to locate and move to one of the interconnected low powered diagnostics consoles responsible for monitoring the status of the capacitors. At the moment Tau kept his interactions with the console just brief enough to attempt to activate its display prior to taking several large steps away in order to avoid the remote possibility of any unintentional electrical discharge finding its way to the console.

Even with helmet and visor in play, it would be hard to read Jam's suddenly slumped shoulders and slacked posture as anything but disappointed. Sure, Rock was only freshly upgraded from intensive care to slightly-less-intensive-but-still-pretty-intensive care, so she wasn't necessarily expecting him to drop in with all the pomp and circumstance as a meteor, and literally tear the metal shielding a new one with his bare hands, but... clearly, she wasn't expecting anything that painfully prosaic.
She stood awkwardly erect with invisibly half-lidded eyes, and several seconds after the deed was done, Jam continued to stare at the other monkey in a silent deadpan, before remembering the imminence of her task.
"Er... okay," she at last mumbled, sidling up to her exposed quarry. She reached out to touch it, hesitated, and twiddled her fingers at her sides. "Almost feel like m'showboating now, or something."
With a neat, punctuated clearing of her throat, the simian girl raised both arms understatedly, buried each hand in the tangle of omnidirectional wires garnishing the big ole' mess of high-voltage electronics, and, with no more than a tepid one or two spark warm-up, lit up like a Christmas tree gone horribly awry.

The display for monitoring the status of the capacitors was comprised of text tags, in a grid, marking off precisely how high a percentage they were at capacity (zero percent) and how many farads in total the system held (about sixty). As Jam poured energy into the system, the monitor did not react, for the first perhaps five seconds. Then the percentages began to rise. 5.0% [04820.15f] There was an audible crackling, and arcs leapt off the piece of machinery Jam was charging. They bounced off the floor, and sparks crawled around the edges where they landed. 13.2% [12726.25f] A thick, low drone filled the air. There was a distant crackle from one of the capacitors. 38.1% [36733.88f] Everyone's fur would begin to stand on end. The air became increasingly more oppressive, in spite of the gentle breeze filling the room. 78.8% [75972.94f] The air was thick and greasy, and filled with a unpleasant ozone taste that stuck to people's tongues. 99.3% [95737.15f!] The maintenance terminal suddenly lost coordination, and the neat grid of measurements was elbowed off the screen by a massive, expanding block of text that began to occupy more and more of the terminal's limited monitor space, and grew rapidly. CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY CHARGE CAPACITY
The power terminal ceased to accept electricity, directing Jam's charge out into whatever nearby metal would take it. There was a shower of sparks from the ceiling as an arc of lightning melted a bite-sized hole out of a structural beam, and a distinct whine began to emanate from the piece of equipment she was directing power to.

Oblivious to any kind of status displays, and largely desensitized to the feeling of tinglyness and frizzy fur, Jam really had no concept of the extent to which she ought to be charging the capacitors, until the greasy, ozone-flavored air began to factor into the equation. By then, the console was already protesting that it had had its fill, and electricity -- ahem, her electricity -- was running rampant. Withdrawing her hands as if they'd been caught in cookie jars, her contribution to the indoor lightning storm concluded succinctly, but apparently a little too late, and she had but a single word to say about it:
"...Balls."

Rock, slumping somewhere in the background, watched on with brows that were raised maybe a millimeter or two higher than usual—the closest he was going to get to an expression of surprise in his present state. Once it was all over, and things were done lighting up and falling apart, he nodded in some kind of vague approval, as if silently saying nice job to her efforts (and the resulting overkill).
All that was left to do was to wait and see if it worked. ... Right?

For an unsettlingly long time, nothing seemed to happen. The only person who would be aware of any change in the ship's operation would be Tau — assuming the robot was around to watch the screen begin to change again. It began to tick down various operational cues, progressing towards an event that was only given a clue towards by the eight letter marker that the system used to refer to it: 'lincnalt' Then, a human-readible sentence appeared on the screen. Warning, orbital grade deviation detected at over 4%, emergency altitude adjustment required! Projecting strain . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Please wait, MRV alpha velocity required. Computing . . . . . . . . . OK. Please wait, MRV beta velocity required. Computing . . . OK. Please wait, THN lat alpha velocity required. Computing . . . . . OK. Please wait…"
The group — situated as close to the core as they were, abruptly began to drift off the floor, and gently fell towards the right wall of the room. The computer continued its silent monologue, gently informing the world at large of the space station's impending action. Then, there was a final sentence. Firing sequence started, please wait!
The terminal display began to pour down a coarse torrent of jet activations and results, as the station began to tumble, with titanic slowness. The world began to tilt. With a crushing, relentless ponderousness, like some prehistoric mastodon turning around in place, the space station ARK began to increase its rotational speed. Simultaneously, across its earth-facing surface, massive columns — ion jets designed to augment the titanic construction's altitude — began to fire, projecting glowing blue beams down at the surface of the planet below, crowbarring the ARK into a higher orbit, against all natural laws, and against the stern punishment of physics. The room seemed to tumble around them as the group found themselves inexorably slipping towards another wall from the wall they were currently standing on, which was currently torn between being a floor, a wall, or a ceiling. As the ARK pivoted, structures in the distance shriek and groaned. The room around them seemed to undulated, gently, kicking off whoever was touching its walls. The door at the end of the room shifted away from the doorway. Air began to rush out of the room at an increasingly dangerous rate as light filled their surroundings. The horrifying, inexplicable gravity-warping, and accompanying sense of extreme disorientation went on for what seemed like forever, but might have been, in reality, maybe one or two minutes, and then… Silence. The last creakings and poppings of the stressed space station trailed away. Then the lights came on. Then the gravity came on, and everyone who did not quickly prepare themselves fell, awkwardly, to the floor. Air stopped leaving the room. An emergency shield had covered the exit, turning the gaping wound in the ship's surface into a sort of impromptu window. A gentle rushing noise filled the room as local circulation systems began to activate, connecting with other, larger air systems across the ARK as the newly-restored computers tested each section's atmosphere for toxins. There was another sepulchral howl from the ARK's massive skeleton, as the ARK fired its thrusters again, but this time, the gravity did not flicker off. Order was maintained. Outside, the shields were activated. They sparked and flared unpleasantly, resisting the massive cloud of space debris that had been assailing the ARK some moment previous. Peace was restored. The door had fallen away from the far end of the room, revealing the area of the ARK that had been impacted. A chunk of half-melted metal was lodged in the middle of the distant room. It had ploughed down through three stories of the ARK's face, and come to rest directly in front of the group responsible for activating the station's jets. Even if no-one gave it more than a second glance, it was obvious that it was not a piece of rock or random chunk of debris. It was too regular. In spite of its scars, and the massive, glossy black streaks of carbon that smeared its surface, it was very obviously a capsule of some kind, no bigger than an escape pod. On the one section of the capsule that was still legible, were the words: GUN UFS Carnel####### Emergency E######### EDJ-4515#######21 It didn't matter if anyone bothered to look out the makeshift window that had been bored into the room, or if they waited to get back to the hangar to notice, but as the ARK began to approach sunset, sailing serenely into the penumbra of the planet, it would become rivetingly obvious that the field of debris was a ships' graveyard. It would become apparent just as quickly that, as far as the eye could see — scarred, deformed by blast marks, seared by the sun, flaking and dented — the corpse spaceships were all marked with logos of recognizeable companies, militaries, and countries — all from Earth.

Wild Badge kept quiet as the monkey crew got to work on restoring power. He could probably make it as an IT guy, but space colonies were a little bit outside of his area of expertise.
It seemed like they had things under control, he thought. Up until a mini-electrical storm started brewing. Surely that was just part of the show.
"...Balls."
Balls? That's...not something you say when you're in control of the situation. That's not good. But the resulting storm of electricity quickly dissipated, and he let out a sigh of relief. Crisis Averted.
...Or not. After moments of silence, and a few computer prompts later, gravity was lifting, or rather, shifting.
"Balls..." He said, borrowing from the punch-colored monkey, as gravity seemed to be taking a break and they drifted toward another surface.
And then, the room began to rotate around them. It was as though they were reenacting a scene from Inception. Not wanting to be a tossed salad, Hoji tried to grab onto whatever seemed like it was bolted down, or wasn't going anywhere.
By the time their little thrill-ride was over, and gravity had made up it's mind, it decided he was holding onto the ceiling. Letting go, he dropped down to the floor, looking around at the others.
"Is everyone alright?" He asked. While waiting for a sound-off, his gaze wandered out their make-shift window. What he saw didn't immediately register, but it came off as alarming at the very least. He walked closer to get a better look.

Meanwhile, the local hedgehog of the group was pushing himself to his feet, shaking his head. Around him, the room still spun slightly, Sheffer having not expected the sudden topsy-turvy gravity. He felt some soreness in one arm when he'd slipped and banged it up a bit from a clumsy fall, but otherwise, he was okay and glad to see that the ARK was functioning well now.
And that they hadn't been sucked out into the coldness of space.
"Yeah... I'm good," he said with a sigh of relief, glancing over to the "window" Hoji was already examining, now interested in the large scar that graced the ARK, wandering over and beginning to peer out as well. It took him a moment to realize what was out there, waiting for them, and his eyes appeared to go wide for a brief moment before he gave a brief, confused shake of his head. He was soon glancing back to the multitude of familiar symbols and letters that he could see from their vantage point, watching the ships and whatever other material floated about out there... and he found the scene a bit eery.
"...where the hell are we...." he muttered, looking down at the planet at its orbiting debris with an almost hypnotized stare.

Meanwhile, Rock was... just anchored in place the whole time, completely unmoving. There was something almost funny about the way he stood there so solemnly, indifferent to the workings of gravity around him.
See, as it had begun to weaken, he simply activated his magnetic boots. (Those things were so ridiculously useful in space.) When the door popped open, he just put his breathing apparatus in his mouth, and calmly waited...
... aaand turned his boots back off and plucked the mouthpiece from his mouth once it all stopped. Save for having to sway out of the way of a piece of debris at one point, he had remained a patient, unimpressed pillar for the duration. When everything finally came to a stop, the others would likely find him not far from that strange, crashed ship, observing it and the stranger sight beyond.
If he had any idea of what was going on, he was playing it close to the vest for the time being. He remained silent.

Tau had simply engaged the magnetic panels in his feet for the gravity shifts and, similar to Rock, remained motionless for the duration of the chaos. While the others made their way to inspect the damage and new exterior view, Tau quietly went in search of another nearby terminal, preferably one with a more station-wide network connection. Upon locating a suitable terminal, with the primary systems appearing to be coming back online, Tau went about attempting to collect any pertinent information.

While it was most readily apparent that things were taking a turn for the unfavorable, Jam couldn't be certain of precisely which way, and how direly unfavorable she'd made things until the room started spinning. Rather ungracefully, she scrambled back for the wires, if only to have something to hold onto, but fell short of them, and went tumbling past Rock (she'd later feel bad about her desperate attempts to grab onto his legs).
Sadly, it was only after she was bouncing haplessly around that she remembered; "Oh, wait. I can do that, too."
Suddenly ensconced in bright blue arcs of lightning, she, too, became securely rooted to the spot. ...Unfortunately, it was mere seconds before the phenomenon had concluded, and even worse, the spot to which she was rooted ended up being a wall when all was said and done. With a horridly strained expression, her valiant attempts to remain upright (side-right?) culminated in a fantastically pathetic fizzling, flailing fall to the new floor, as the entirety of her musculature went on strike.
The monkey was surprisingly blase, however, as she picked herself up, bat the space dust from her biosuit, and cleared her throat with all the emotion of an eye drops commercial. She strolled unaffectedly and wordlessly to Rock, where she stopped with her feet together, and her arms folded neatly at the elbows behind her back. Surveying the scene with a factitiously grave expression, she leaned clandestinely closer to the other primate, and muttered (across the radio waves), "...Did we make it better or worse?"

"We- look at that! Isn- resting? Oh, sh- -atic again?"
The squirrel's voice came over the radio once again. It seemed as if she were more intrigued than shocked by the appearance of the ship graveyard. After a somewhat lengthy pause, she resumed talking, this time without such frequent interruptions.
"From what I can tell, you helped, don't worry!" The voice assured them. "Well, I mean, worrying is to be expected as this place is far from safe- what were they thinking when they built it? Anyway, I mean, things still look at little... odd, but I think that can't be helped given the circumstances. I would advise coming back, though- the way is safe and, well, that unicorn is still here, and- oh, goodness, uhm! That angry one is... punching... him?"
Another brief pause.
"Yes. Yes. The Tasmanian devil is punching people. In the face. Uhm. Oh dear. I hope he doesn't go for the eagle next-!"

*Click.*
Rock had just twisted the knob on his radio to the "off" position, while a very tired look on his battered face conveyed just how much he was ready to move on.
"Let's head back," he suggested to his group, before strolling for the door.
...
Along the way, he shot a sideways glance at Jam.
"... Good job, by th'way," he mumbled. His sincerity was tainted with a touch of smarm, however. "Good thing you're wearin' a helmet, though."

OOC: After I got home from work today, and reread last night's post, it felt rushed, and less in-character than I wanted it to be, so I rewrote with a fresh head. Not of dire consequence, but I'll sleep better knowing I played my own character right.
Her half-second beam took a turn for the sassy, delaying her steps just long enough to roll her eyes and shake her head at the back of Rock's, before reclaiming her pace with a couple of springy bounds.
"We can't all be as cool as you, babe," she lamented in a mock-pained sigh.
"Besides," the mischievous monkey added brightly, with a playful pop on the other primate's (good) shoulder. "'Least when I get hurt, it's funny."
"You could stand t'learn a thing or two from me," she added dryly. "Your injuries are almost never comical."

With Rock's regroup request and finding nothing either requiring immediate attention or forewarning Tau shifted his focus from the terminal he'd been interacting with and, after deactivating it, silently made his way to regroup with the simian pair and the others, choosing once more to bring up the rear unless requested to do otherwise.
