It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

It seemed, momentarily, the rock-covered hedgehog had vanished from sight. For those who hadn't been watching, the only sign that remained of him even being nearby was a small ripple across the pool of glowing green acid, and nothing more. It appeared that Sheffer had made his drop and ended up diving in with no other consequence besides disappearing, or maybe finding his body being quickly dissolved by the deathly liquid.

That's when a sudden limb erupted from the acid-pool's surface, a crystal hand reaching up and clawing at the surface of the platform. It eventually gained a grip, and bit by bit, the rest of its owner followed, another hand grasping for a hold as Sheffer pulled his body up. The crystal surrounding him was being visibly eaten away from the remaining acid on him, and one could tell he was forced to apply layer after layer in his time beneath the surface.

Eventually, with a few clunks of rock on metal as he found solid ground beneath his feet, he stood straight, allowing the green-hued crystal to nonchalantly fall from his body, loud twangs filling the air as they hit the platform. Kicking some of it away, he allowed an arm to ghost across his forehead as he took deep breaths, the under-acid travel having been devoid of air.

He appeared to ignore Rock's presence for the brief moment it was taking him to recover.

In the time while the rest of the party began to reach ground level, there was another space of dead air, which lasted for what might seem slightly longer than a comfortable length of time, before a voice spoke.

"I'm — ba — "

"— art. Is this better?"

The voice was Astrid's. Sounding much chirpier than she did earlier, she went on without waiting for a response.

"I'm so sorry — there's too much metal in this station. Not that you can build a station without metal, but in these conditions…!"

The voice trailed off with mild indignance, before resuming, "anyway, I was looking at the station computer, and I found something. The nuclear reactor that powers this station is still operational, but it's under — ssure from the — can't understand what — of the planet! The turbines can't get enough pressure, because of the low gravity! The reactor's located on the circumference of the… face of the ARK. Haha," there was a nervous chuckle from the other side of the radio, "it really does look like a face, doesn't it? Anyway, the ARK was originally set in a high geostationary orbit, and was given a spin to simulate the earth's gravity, but with this new planet's gravity, and the differing — epth — the turbines can't produce enough power to correct the ARK's attitude or spin, and the batteries that were supposed to power the control jets are — well… They're as old as the ARK, and that just about says it all!"

She paused.

"Anyway, each set of binary — fed through a — can't quite r — hooked up to a capacitor substation, which transfers between the battery piles and the main power. If…" she stopped speaking for a moment, before resuming cautiously, "you. You… do have an electric power source on you, though? It's chaos-based, right? Maybe it will have enou — to — you keep breaki — to keep it going until the ARK can restore orbit."

There was a long silence from the other end of the radio, broken only by the occasional sounds of static.

"The ARK's jets are very high-efficiency…" she sounded doubtful, "they were very innovative when they were built, maybe if she tried…"

The squirrel's voice was silent for a moment.

"I don't know," she said, "but if you can't make it into the core, it's… it's another shot! At least."

Knowing better than to hang back and babysit Rock (grievously injured or not), Jam had actually been among the first, if not the first to reach the platform which, for the moment, seemed to be the group goal. She breathed in deeply through her nostrils as she watched the whiter primate make his way, utterly defying reason or common sense. She seemed to wince sympathetically at all the acrobatics the trip required, and how it must have affected cranial blood flow; when at last, both of his feet were on solid (enough) ground, she actually breathed an inconspicuous sigh of relief.

One by one, they were joined by the others, as the radio began to intermittently speak semi-recognizable word-pieces at them. Even after becoming clearer and less fragmented, however, Jam seemed no more in the loop. With horizontally flattened brows, and a frown steeped in confusion, the strawberry-hued simian squinted imploringly to the other monkey, requesting clarification in her own special, terribly eloquent way.

"...Caaaan you paraphrase? Preferably without all the missing parts bull— it?"

The corner of Rock's mouth twisted down and sucked in as if he'd just bitten into a bad lemon. He pretty much had all of the pieces of the puzzle together—or so he figured—but he didn't seem sure he liked the picture they made. He nonetheless elaborated on it for the sake of clarity, in his own uniquely terse way.

"She's sayin' the reactor's fine, but gravity's %#$*ed up where it is."

Either waiting to ensure this gem of knowledge sunk in, or contemplating his next words, or just plain enjoying some long, hard head-throbs between words, he paused briefly with a hard look on his face, then continued a few seconds later.

"We're apparently," (spoken more like "allegedly"), "not far from the capacitors that feed the station's ion thrusters. If we charge those up," cue a glance to Jam, "we might save ourselves a trip to the cannon's core... or waste more time..."

He drew another long breath and stared blankly at the security door ahead. It seemed like he was about to say something else, but he didn't. Was he deciding?—Waiting for them to decide what they wanted to do? Hard to say. Chances were he didn't like either of the options, but they were the only ones on the table.

"Well, hell, it's a shot, idn't it?" blurted the monkey boisterously. "I mean, if we're 'close,' how much time could it really eat up?" She stood somewhat lazily in posture, replete with a healthy slouch to her spine and her hands on hips, which flailed emphatically mid-sentence.

Apparently eager to be doing something, she pushed forward, taking (or retaking, if she'd lost it) the lead, and zealously seeking out the promised hatch that would lead to glorious (only potentially helpful) action, versus frustrating, helpless idleness. Almost thoughtlessly, Jam's hands seized the first vaguely hatch-like thing they came across, and only then, a few millimeters into a turn, did she think to ask;

"... Nothing bad can come of this, right?"

Wild Badge stood up, putting the grappling device away. He tried really hard to make heads or tails of the transmissions, but he had a hard time with all the static. Then Rock was nice enough to translate.

"Yeah," He rallied next to Jam's comment, "Might as well give it a try."

"To be fair, we don't actually know if either option is gonna work." He added, rubbing the back of his neck with a gloved hand.

It was a shot in the dark on both accounts, so might as well hit the closer one, right?

Of course, Ace stumbled off his mechanized taxi with all the grace of a boy climbing out of his first roller coaster (as it was very clear he wasn't used to being carried, and certainly not over the shoulder). But when he made his debut on the platform everyone seemed to be gathering on, he didn't seem to be quite so keen on hopping aboard the same metaphorical train as the others.

"...I don't mean to seem like the resident party pooper," he said, already getting off to a promising start. "But if we did go off on this new plan, we'd be going off on Astrid's intel." Ouch. Heck of a reason for somebody to doubt something, but even over radio contact, Ace seemed to recognize it, scratching the back of his neck with furrowed brows as he spoke further. "Doc, exactly how sure are you about these ion thrusters working out for us?"

Not necessarily looking at anyone in particular, Sheffer spoke a few words.

"Shorter route. Might as well try."

The statement was blunt, and to solidify his opinion, he simply began to walk forward through the busted security door. He didn't really expect anyone to acknowledge what he had said. He was being cautious right now, not trying to unintentionally spark another conflict between him or any of the others. The hedgehog was content with just getting through what they had to in order to solve the problems at hand.

Soon, he was near Jam and eying the hatch (or the thing she believed to be one), and lacking the knowledge of the inner workings of the colony, he simply gave a shrug to her question, knowing Rock would probably provide the answer anyhow.

"…ouldn't — um. Oh."

Astrid sounded somewhat dejected.

"Well!" she resumed after a few moments, with comparative brightness, "I suppose it's not a — percent chance, but — less something has happened that this co — uter isn't telling me, I'm 99% certain that it'll work!"

"Well," she added again, "how much of a charge does your… —r electricity thing put out? Th — ystem is already connected to a series of transformers, and each — ores is insulated, so you shouldn't have to worry about proper current — o long as you ca — ntain the capacitor charge long enough."

Despite being hotheaded, Rock was the kind of guy who preferred to spend five minutes deciding the right course of action rather than fifteen minutes carrying out the wrong one. It was thus with some trepidation the he finally started down the same corridor as Jam.

"We'll just go with the scientist's plan," he concluded, but not before adding: "This way won't be our fault if they all suffocate and die waitin' for us, anyway."

"Oh, yeah," he mumbled and glanced back toward the resident robot, suddenly remembering something. "Let us know if carbon dioxide in our area gets above, uh... a thousand parts per million or so, a'right?"

( Man.. colors are so odd when you change monitors..Any way, pardon my sluggish posting recently, Might not be able to game without a monitor but i can still post more or less. )

Tau had been silent since his descent and subsequent landing on the platform and continued to remain silent despite the newly acquired information and proposed plan. both plans were plausible and either way in the end it didn't really concern him which course of action they took so long as it produced the same result. And all in all it he was as much same rush as the others to preserve life-support, well, at least if he wasn't concerned with being on the station alone orbiting an unknown planet any how.

Upon being questioned by Rock, Tau's primary optic generated its ascetic cloudy maroon/purple mass (which was more to let others to know he was paying attention to them than anything else) and shifted its focus towards the simian for a few moments before vanishing. “ Understood. “

As the hatch was (and assuming the hatch was) opened, there was an audible hiss. The service tunnel on the other side was, apparently, at a much lower pressure, and there was a rush of air out of the relatively open public hallway the group was standing in, and into the newer, much less inviting tunnel.

The hallways and rooms beyond breathed in, and an ominous booming rolled through distant parts of the station as steel girders shifted uncomfortably, and rooms stretched by micro-meters.

As the group moved down into the densely coiled maintenance tunnels that discreetly skirted the cannon's core, the sensation of a gentle wind got stronger. Something was drawing air away, down the hall, away from them.

Eventually they would, by the inevitable limiting of other options, reach the capacitor substation for the ARK's jets.

There was a battery of security bulkheads — still running on auxiliary power — which required a collection of codes to open, but — robot member of the party aside — the existence of the place was its own safety device.

Capacitors — enormous slabs of treated and delicately separated metal — were built up off the floor on tremendous re-inforced ceramic pylons. Huge battery-like structures capable of storing enough electricity to kill instantly, they were covered in thick ceramic shells, to offer at least cursory protection from the immense charge they carried, and were linked in parallel with huge, fat, worm-like cables, to provide minutes of high-intensity charge to the ship's control jets.

The cables dangled from the ceiling, looped up across racks, where they stretched down to connect to the bellies of the capacitors huddled across the floor. The capacitors were squat and glossy and vaguely insectile. The cables swayed gently in the breeze. The whole scene would look completely hideous to anyone with the imagination required.

The opening of the door would reveal two other things. One, a plausible point to recharge the system, in the form of a very large covered terminal which spread power from the ARK's ancient batteries to the rest of the capacitor array.

Two, a damaged door at the far end of the capacitor field. The door was very nearly knocked out of its recess, and seemed only to be held in place by the tremendous vacuum pulling on its opposing side. Fragmented rays of natural light could be seen through gaps between the door and the frame — the opening to a recently smashed room, or perhaps an observatory area, deprived of windows by a micro-meteor.

Whatever the case, it would soon become apparent that the door was not actually planning on going anywhere for quite a while.

"Never really had it bench-marked, boss," Jam replied with a dry apprehension to the doctor's query. "Guess we'll see when we get there."

Normally enthusiastically willing to spearhead initiatives that involved frying things, even after Rock's concession, it was with notable hesitance that Jam opened the hatch, and took the first step in. Starting inconspicuously at the sounds and sensations that literally rushed to greet her from the other side, the monkey took a deep, steadying breath in through her nostrils, and gulped back nothing at all down her already arid throat.

Still, she moved forward with purpose through the sparsely lit sea of electrical hazards and antiquated, but alien-looking components and conduits; she was unusually silent. The grotesque appearance of the cables and their capacitors, as well as the generally unsettling ambiance of the area seemed utterly lost on the grey and green-suited simian, though as she saw and strode almost magnetically towards the immense, sheet metal-covered terminal.

"This looks dangerous," she muttered in a tone of muddled foreboding and excitement, as she -- almost lovingly -- ran a hand over the dusty, painted metal exterior.

With a sudden, business-like briskness, she turned at the waist, one folded arm still resting atop her patient-to-be, fingers curled over the edge, and gently drumming against its side. Her head swung towards the rest of her party, visually addressing them as a whole behind her opaque silver visor.

"I need this can opened, people," she said candidly "Volunteers?"

With his head down, feet dragging, and weird, blank-looking eyes barely focused on some distant space ahead (the glowing blue one of the mismatched pair shadowed and half-eclipsed by gauze, to add weirdness to oddity), Rock must have looked like some supernatural corpse shambling his way through the dim, dead, grimy maintenance corridor, which lacked even the grace of some ominous emergency lighting.

... Thus, when they arrived at the objective, and he made his way so darkly to Jam's obstacle, the panel, there must have been something sobering and utterly mundane as he just... pulled out a ratchet wrench from his bag, popped the appropriate appropriate socket on, annnd...

*T-t-t-t-t-ch, t-t-t-t-t-ch, t-t-t-t-t-ch..."

started unscrewing the bolts on the panel with a bored look on his face.

What? Did they expect him to gore the machine open with his plasma knife in a mighty, metal-rending slice? It was really a lot easier to just unscrew it.

About twenty very boring seconds of ratcheting later, he stowed the wrench, calmly tugged the panel out of its slot with his working arm, slid it to one side, and gently leaned it out of the way. He then stepped quietly back once more and fell in with the ranks of the others to leave Jam to do her duty.
