Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

While not as affectedly curious about the newest appendage to their ever growing body of resistance as some of the others were, Jam lent her attention and gaze for a few moments, before Rock's reply to the head count query sent her mind wandering again. With a short, deep breath through her nostrils, she tugged almost compulsively at the hems of her jacket, picked a stray piece of lint off the cuff of her left glove, and segued seamlessly back into aloofness as she folded her arms and held her elbows.
At least for the moment, she had nothing to contribute.

A sigh of relief escaped Key's mouth at the confirmation that not everyone present would be involved in the job. While she could do her job with an audience, the fewer people involved the more comfortable she would be. The rest of what he had to say made her laugh softly. "That's happened before. Multiple times. I've gotten decent at dodging bullets. I'm still in." She replied with a shrug. When your main targets are research centers, museums, and the homes of the ridiculously wealthy, you get used to avoiding security guards and their assorted weaponry.
"Should we move someplace more... secure?" She asked, glancing around their exposed location. She completely agreed that it made no sense to discuss a delicate mission like this out in the open where anyone could here.

"Actually, I was thinkin' we could walk and talk," suggested Rock as he turned and started off in the direction of their destination. He made a gesture to follow along. "There's not a whole lotta info to go over—no maps or visual aids—so we can cover everything we know on the way there, then get this over with. That way if somebody listens in... they won't have any time to react, anyway."
If there was anything clear about this guy, it was that he didn't waste time. At all. This, combined with a complete drought of useful information, may have foreshadowed the distinct lack of subtlety his plan was going to have, too.
"I believe Tau here will be able to tell us if anybody's tryin' to eavesdrop, anyway," he added with a glance back toward the robot, with all its sensor arrays and guns.

The group's stroll took them straight to Vince's casino resort—the dramatically-titled Hot Constellations Gambling District. Along the way, Rock had shared a relatively straightforward-sounding plan:
- Key and Sheffer were going into the main building (the hotel, also home to Vince's office and other important resort offices and facilities) with him. They'd try to be discreet about getting in, but ultimately rely on brute force if necessary, and just fight it out. - Ace, Jam, and Caz were to wait at various points outside and around the lobby to watch for (and radio about) any odd security behavior, or the arrival of authorities, then enter the fray and disrupt them in any way possible - Tau was supposed to enter the resort aerially, and wait on standby near the hotel in case anything went wrong (as his presence would have been too suspicious if he entered normally). - Getaway plans were vague and situational; scatter, lose any pursuers, then regroup at some restaurant Rock had written down the address for.
A plan that hinged so heavily on improvisation couldn't inspire much confidence, but, without any more information than they had, it was all they could do. Besides that, reports from a few nights ago had confirmed that Vince's security didn't pack much in the way of heat, so opposition was going to be light at best (at least by the standards of a group of people who had just taken out a whole military base).
And so, they eventually arrived at the huge, imposing, artificial-mesa-like structure where the resort property was set atop. Neon was everywhere, lighting up the night sky. It shined through the rain, which had begun to patter down on the trip over. By the time the group's members finished the elevator ride up and set foot on top, in Vince's make-believe city in the sky, they would find themselves getting pelted by chilly water droplets and buffeted by whipping winds. It was a nasty night to be out working, but the crummy weather at least made a nice, noisy backdrop, and might have served to keep unwanted bystanders out of the way.
... Or, it would have.
A monorail ride later, and everyone (sans Tau) found themselves facing the grand fountain in front of the resort's hotel. In addition to the bright lights, there was also a burning fire, and freshly-created smoke pillars climbing up the front of the building. Lights flickered, patrons ran in panic, and security was already crawling all over the place, extinguishers in hand, doing the best they could before until a firetruck could get there. Gunshots rang in the background from somewhere within the hotel lobby, while the lights seemed to perpetually flicker, as if disrupted by something.
Rock stopped in front of the fountain and stared up at the spectacle, absent-mindedly clutching the strap of his duffel with a hand, while the other hung limp at his side. Rainwater ran down his blank face.
"This... wasn't part of the plan."
In case anyone had any doubts, really.
Rock glanced back to the group (composed of everyone except their resident robot, at that point), then forward again. He pulled a small radio off his belt and mashed the button.
"Tau—got any insight on what's goin' on here?"

There were a few moments of silence before Tau's monotone voice responded. " . . . Interference detected on several frequencies in use inside the structure. Interference increases significantly on the most security frequencies. At this time I can confirm intruders have entered the building, But I cannot confirm as to when, how many, or if they are still inside. "
The was another brief pause. "I can attempt to establish a direct link with the building's audio-visual systems if detailed information is required. "

Jam's palms were already smearing her rain-slicked face downwards, and she muttered something mutinous that sounded like, "'Course it ain't. F'anything ever went according to plan, it just wouldn't be the damned plan!"
Dropping her chin, and huffing an agitated sigh, she briefly considered whether or not she'd be any help should she charge gallantly (see: stupidly) in with her comrades, regardless of her limited efficacy. Her eyes wandered to Caz, and begrudgingly conceded that she could keep the not-quite-action-hero-caliber mole safer than she could probably keep herself, at the very least.
"Revisions to the plan, chief?" asked the damp, dark pink primate, stepping towards Rock.

Rock gave Jam a blank look, with eyes that drifted off to the side after a second or two. See: The 'I don't know' face.
He pushed the button on the radio again.
"Negative, not worth the effort—building looks like it's havin' power issues from down here," replied Rock. (He figured the cameras wouldn't be working with the lights flickering like that, anyway.) "Advise you stand by for possible intercept. We'll wanna try t'catch whoever's doin' this if they got the emerald."
And with that, he started toward the front of the hotel, albeit not with any great haste. Until he had at least some vague idea of what they were up against, he wasn't going to go leading the whole group into possible disaster.

The so-called possible danger instead came to them. As the group rounded the fountain and approached the concrete walk leading up to the entrance, the glass doors at the front of the hotel exploded into little fragmented bits, their metal fixtures flying far and wide as an entire platoon blasted their way out rushed out and down the stairs like ants spilling out of an anthill. They stopped short, though, keeping their distance at about twenty feet away. The soldiers would be familiar to some of them. The things were the same type Jam and Rock had encountered at the chemical plant, and that the group had seen in those boxes under Arware-Mistar (albeit more clothed and equipped than the latter, now). The entire force, numbering around fifty and now wearing GUN-emblazoned backpacks and vests, and carrying rifles, swayed unstably in crooked, barely-upright stances. They hardly looked awake with the way they shifted their heads around and gazed emptily around, some staring at the ground immediately in front of their feet, others the sky, and yet others nothing in particular. All the while, they maintained complete silence. Of course, their "leader," as it were, was soon to exit behind them; the drones parted as the boy strode slowly down the stairs. It was Seven, and he looked just as happy (see: smarmy and asinine) as ever, smirking and grinning to the people waiting outside. He looked largely the same as he had before, save for the substitution of some dark-colored trousers instead of shorts (it was too cold and rainy out). However, there was one thing very different about him this time, something that Jam in particular would be very familiar with: a small, lightning-shaped gem, mounted on a cumbersome-looking electronic wristband on his right arm. It seemed to constantly flicker and spark. "Oh!" blurted the kid, feigning surprise poorly. " Hey there. I was thinking nobody was even gonna show up!"

For the second time in as many weeks there was fire, and running and screaming. Things had been so uneventful since Jack'd infiltrated the party. A lot had been going on during this time. Target was going over some recent news as they approached the casino to see if there was anything they could do to help.
"According to reports Dr. Henshin's vault was broken into and that emerald was taken, too." He updated her as she approached the hotel. Both the deputy and sheriff came to a stop staring up at the hotel.
"So basically, we've got nothing?" Jack confirmed her hands resting on her hips. It was the white and pink monkeys that caught her eye first. "It's Rock and Jan... Why am I not surprised?"
"It's Rock and Jam, like music, Sheriff."
Finally Jack's favorite human surfaced with some seriously miserable looking robots. Jack grumbled a bit as she tilted her hat down. "Great. juuuust great."
Jack decided against approaching any closer, and hung back to observe a moment. She wasn't sure what was going on, but was positive a fight was about to break out. She had no doubts that Seven was her enemy, his attempts to drown her and the others made that clear. But Rock was another variable she didn't get, why was in involved in all of this? Only one thing about Rock had become apparent. Rock was into something very big, she didn't know why, but he'd long sense left behind the days when she'd chase him half way across the desert for petty crimes.

A number of obscenities slipped passed the hedgehog's lips as he saw the numerous amount of soldiers file (or more like stumble) out of the building... and of course, lo and behold, their antagonizer for the evening. Cold rain dripped down Sheffer's face as he gave the most spiteful of glares to the boy, and he looked ready to charge now and ask questions later, but for once, he stood his ground.
"Great, great, great," he muttered as he stepped up to be next to Rock. "Of course the little $%@# beat us to it..." His eyes darted between the soldiers, already knowing they were the grown-up versions of the mutations he'd seen back at the GUN base.
"Any ideas on catching him for once?"

A brown bundle of feathers came running up behind Jack, skidding to a stop behind her.
"Negh had to fix my shoe sorry!"
Back in her everyday worn clothing the still damp bird peered over the woman's shoulder. She could see the group ahead. Recongizing the more familar faces of Rock and his band of merry men. There were some others that she remembered from the breakfast table but the name escaped her. Chef?
The sight of Seven made Ember do a double-take. Tapping on Jack's shoulder she whisphered, "What's a kid doing here? And why does he have a posse?"

Caz came into town with fuller leggings and a windbreaker, but little could prepare her for the chill sliding down her spine when she saw the at least decently organized plan shot to pieces along with the hotel. She'd never seen 'the kid' before, but she knew anyone to cause this much damage... alongside a league of troops that big was nothing to sneeze at. It was clear she was concerned, but her gaze dangled between her crew and the other, not sure which one held the answers she was looking for.
Her anxiety didn't go unnoticed by Ace. Aside from the pitter-patter of rain on fountain and the murmurs of his crew, there was little else for the cat's ears to catch in the noontime quickdraw duel the hotel had soon become. His brows leveled in that steely way they always did when $%@& was about to get real, and his fingers became itchy for the leather pouches on his wrists. "I'm guessing that's the kid," he half-whispered to nobody in particular, eying the swindled bling on his wrist. "We wanna take 'im?"

Typically, a diversion made Key happy, as it would mean her job was easier; everyone would be focusing on the fight, leaving her in peace to do her job. However, she got the distinct feeling that was not going to be the case. This feeling solidified into fact when she noted the responses that the kid who seemed to be in charge of the puppet-soldier-things was eliciting from the group around her. The 'soldiers' caught her attention- she would've loved to have figured out how they worked -but she decided there would (hopefully) be time for that later.
Instead of unwisely tackling one to see how it ticked, she chose to ask, "That kid a friend of yours?"
Her internal mantra had just gone from, 'Do your job' to 'Find out what's going on, stat'. After all, Key hated two things: not knowing something she wanted to know, and not succeeding at whatever task her mind had set itself to.

Jam dropped her chin in the smallest of visible inclines at Ace's supposition, but quickly tacked on a low addendum;
"Not my call, but in my experience it's not smart, either."
To be as angry as she understandably must have been (oh, yes, she saw her baby glinting like a teardrop the moment its bearer marched through the door), the red primate merely stared at the boy through unblinking, narrowed eyes, her feet rooted to the ground. Breathing slowly and evenly out her nostrils, her hands hung unclenched at her side, beguilingly at ease.

There was a hum and crackle from the device on Seven's arm while Sheffer got vocal (see: quite openly called him names), though it was rendered nearly inaudible by the rain.
"Hey. You!" Seven pointed a finger threateningly at the hedgehog, while the little lights on the gauntlet blipped and blinked. "It's rude to talk about people standing right in front of you!"
Without any warning, a strobing, undulating, flashing bolt of electricity instantaneously arced from his arm directly at the hedgehog with a thunderous crack that split the air. For all practical intents and purposes, it was an artificial bolt of lightning. Inconspicuous, largely harmless lasers on his wrist device (those blinking lights) had formed an ionized circuit of air for the charge to follow. The only difference was that it wasn't as ridiculously powerful as real lightning, but the blast alone would still be enough to even rattle the cages of anyone standing too near the hedgehog (particularly unfortunate for Rock).
