Sonic Spindash RP is closed.

Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.

It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

With all the activity flaring up on the screen, a low whistle slipped past his lips. That was a lot of dots.

"Well..." he began, looking to the others. "Looks like the doc is being truthful. In fact, he's exceeding himself. There's a regular one in there too. But..."

Sheffer looked warily to the screen once more, flipping the radar and presenting it to them, clearly showing the mass amount of blinking dots that awaited them. Without a word, he turned to where Eggman was fiddling with the door, taking a few steps towards him.

"Hey, doc," he said with surprisingly less bitterness. "Before you go opening that, mind telling us what's in there that needs enough energy to power a small city?"

"Something very..." He typed without ceasing. "... dangerous. Dangerous and unethical. And coming from a controversially liberal free thinker like myself, you know it must be bad!"

He gleamed with a little too much pride. Did he actually like being despicable?

*Boop.*

Whatever the case, the door began to split at its center, parting like huge, slow-moving elevator doors. Eggman turned away from the console. "You'll see soon enough," stated the doctor, and not even with the kind of sinister tone the line might have lent itself to. "I had considered using it for my own benefit, but I believe I've learned my lesson about trying to control weapons not of my own creation."

He checked his hobbled-together, makeshift sidearm, then briskly made for the door on his two spindly, spider-like legs.

"I trust you kids will do the right thing with them."

And with that cryptic statement, unless someone tried to stop him, he made a run for it.

The serval puffed out a half of a chuckle at Eggman's own-creation-revelation, and wondered how long that would last. But as his baby blues trailed him, waddling out the door they came through, it just didn't sit right to let the guy stroll out of there without one more word said.

"Hey," he called. "Theodore."

"...You aren't gonna go out and try conquering the world again once you get out, are you?"

Eggman did not stop running to answer Ace. He did call out with something that sounded suspiciously like, "Don't worry," and another piece of a huffed-and-puffed sentence that sounded like, "I'll put you in a very nice robot" ...

Rock made no move to stop Eggman. He instead strode slowly up to the opening door, gun clutched tightly in hand.

His eyes had to adjust. There were a lot of lights on the several-story-high ceiling, but less than half of them were on. Different parts of the room seemed segmented off for different purposes. There were worktables off to one side, like before, as well as storage areas, large computer racks, inactive robots of various makes and models, and, most peculiarly, shelves, upon shelves, upon shelves of what looked like bare metal freezer chests, all with a single glowing red light on each end, and all wired together and routed to some kind of central control unit, or power hub, or... something. The positioning of the boxes also matched the grid-like array of energy sources Sheffer had seen on his radar.

"I think we need a little time to look around," mumbled Rock as he approached the console inside the door. The results of Eggman's apparent hacking—some sort of software that he looked like he'd downloaded to it, possibly something he had already infected their network with prior—sat at the ready, awaiting input. Rock manipulated the interface (unnecessarily laden with Eggman-related imagery), and closed the door behind once everyone was inside, so as to buy a little time to dig around.

If they followed the device deeper in, their stated objective was pretty obvious with a little looking around. Amidst a bunch of miscellaneous lab equipment was a pair of metal-framed, clear-walled cubes with the dark blue Chaos Emerald and the green Chaosol Emerald, glowing brightly for all to see. Yet, out of everything else present, they were the least mystifying of all objects.

Ace released a slow, toneless sigh to match his squinted eyes.

"What a guy."

Sheffer wasn't all too pleased with Eggman's hasty leaving, throwing one last glare his way as he departed. He had the flimsy thought of chasing after the doctor, but a deal was a deal. He'd agitated Rock enough that day as it were, and he was experiencing the gut feeling he would cross paths with the doctor another day, even if it weren't soon.

With a huff, he decided to follow the primate into the newly opened room.

The two glowing emeralds instantly caught the hedgehog's attention, now at ease knowing they were truly there and the radar wasn't simply fooling him. His eyes were quick to be drawn to the other sources of light inside the vast room. Everywhere he turned, he was faced with a dozen or so glowing dots, giving an ominous feeling to the room that was only expanded on by the dim lighting.

"That computer telling you anything about what's in these things?" he asked Rock from over his shoulder as he walked up to one of the numerous shelves of the strange boxes, peering up and down.

"Nah," replied Rock unenthusiastically as he wandered away from the interface. "Just door controls..."

He walked past Sheffer, slowing down a little to look at what he was looking at.

...

He stopped. He glanced toward the distant glow of the emeralds, then back to the shelves of metal boxes.

...

"Anybody like openin' presents?"

"I don't know..." said Sheffer quietly, coming to stand beside the monkey. "From what he said... I'm not sure I want to know what 'gifts' await us."

The hedgehog did look a bit uneasy as he glanced at the boxes again. "But, if you insist... Sure, why not. Be nice to know what the hell GUN is up to down here."

Wordlessly, Jam brought of the rear of the party, entering only as far as just inside the doors, after everyone else had preceded. She cast a fleeting glance down the hall to their goals, and then spared a few seconds to eye the mysterious boxes that everyone else seemed so fascinated with, seeming stoically disinterested at best.

After pausing for a moment as if listening to something far away, she added her own contribution to Rock and Sheffer's casual banter; "Unless there's some other way out of here, it doesn't sound like we have that much time..."

Offering the smallest of glances to the pink-hued monkey, he tilted his head just slightly, listening closely. She was, in fact, right, the sounds of the gunfight growing ever closer. Might as well open a box, discover what was inside, snatch the emeralds, and then make like trees and get the heck out of there.

Randomly choosing one of the boxes, which happened to lay on the bottom shelf for his convenience, he dragged it out onto the floor with a metal clatter, the weight of the thing quite heavy. He had no trouble finding the clasps that held it closed, and with the flick of his wrists, they were freed.

The hedgehog's hands hovered over the lid of the box for a brief moment, considering what could be inside, images that were maybe a bit nightmarish passing before his eyes. He shrugged off his worrying thoughts, though, and flipped the lid up, his eyes looking in.

Inside the box was confirmation of the correctness of Sheffer's subconscious.

Okay, that's the dry way of putting it. Now for the colorful way:

There was a plastic bag full of clear fluid inside, containing a pale, clammy lump of waterlogged flesh. It was vaguely human shaped, but thin and small, and with a metal helmet enclosing its head. It was not comfortably situated inside the case, but more crammed into it in a partial fetal position, twisted at the waist. It would have been naked, if not for some insubstantial bottoms, not unlike bike shorts. Wires ran into the bag containing the individual through sealed gaskets, and into its helmet, lower back, and other parts, presumably providing some kind of life support.

The liquid suddenly spattered as a hand shot through the plastic, and the figure started scrambling up from its box prison, the three yellow lenses on its helmet glowing brightly.

"HOLY $#@&!!"

The hedgehog abandoned the vicinity with a backward leap that registered a good ten feet, all due to his shock from the deformed being that was emerging from the box. The expression on his face clearly stated what he was currently feeling; creeped out.

Already an arm was bulking up with crystal from pure reaction.

"%$&#in' hell... what is that?"

Though alarmed by sudden screaming where there had been little interest on Jam's part before, she'd thoughtlessly attempted to leap backwards at the unexpected scream, forgetting that she was already practically right up against the door. She bonked into it and stutter-stepped herself upright before taking a good look at the thing coming causing all the tumult.

"Son of a b***h, they're growing those things!" she exclaimed in abhorrence. Her hand jerked toward her pistol, but she quickly remembered how ineffectual it'd be, if these things were anywhere near their fully grown brothers.

Dashing forward in a blur, the punch-hued primate seized the lip of the lid, and slammed it shut over the emerging... thing, with perhaps wanton force, holding it shut, if necessary, as she shot a slightly ill, panicked look to Rock.

It tenaciously scratched and pounded at the lid from inside.
