I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

Not only was Sheffer's attack sufficiently forceful, but striking the barricade low, as a spin only could, caused the entire group of robots to topple headfirst as they were knocked backwards, causing an impressive, bowling-pin-like mess of clunking, clattering, rolling robots, most of which suddenly had broken legs from the impact, and broken arms from falling directly on them.

The Shield Hunters were pretty much done for, but that still left a room full of regular Hunters, who all immediately started tracking and firing at the new hedgehog arrival in their space.

The six-doored hub room Sheffer found himself in hideously lacked cover. The ceiling was not that high, there were no pillars, and the eight remaining robots were scattered so that they were on almost every side. All doors were open; the one to the left looked like an open elevator, the one to the far right led back to the main prison hall (their original route in and presumed route out, full of Hunters and rioting prisoners), while the other four doors were probably best not bothered with (as they seemed... full of Hunters, and rioting prisoners, go fig).

Sheffer, even though he could feel some pride of his success, could not celebrate for even one moment, finding himself fired upon on immediate entry of the room. Skidding to a stop, shots were fired right at him, and with no where to go, he was directly hit. Fortunately for him though, the projectiles were not strong enough to break through the shell of crystal, leaving only large scorch marks on the green surface. They did, however, still pack the same punch any single thing going at that speed would, the hedgehog finding himself flying backward to land on his backside.

A bit dazed, he stood up and used some of his experience from boxing to shake off the dizzying feeling. Next, he rushed right to one of his attackers, blasts from the Hunters hitting the floor all around him. With a small leap forward, a sledgehammer in the form of a clenched fist came swinging down. A Hunter's torso was about to become an obliterated mess.

Rock spared no time rushing in behind Sheff. The primate slid in the door with a loud metallic scrape from his boots; he jigged left as he entered. His knife lit with a spew of fiery plasma and severed the leg of the Hunter inside the left side of the doorway in a single brisk swipe. In the very same motion, he turned and shot the Hunter on the right side of the doorway square in its pelvis, dropping it like a (heavy, metal) sack of potatoes.

He didn't even stop; he moved fast, working his way counterclockwise around the room unflinchingly under a hail of gunfire. Watching Rock fight in the smallish room was kind of like watching a rabid wolverine unleashed in the confines of a china cabinet. He jumped on robots, he stabbed them in their heads, he kicked them off their feet, he shot them, he gashed and ripped their clunky appendages off in spews of sparks and oil—and, horrible as it was, an orange-clad, shiv-bearing inmate that got too close to him met a similar fate by plasma cutter. What came out of his torso was not oil; perhaps disturbingly, Rock didn't even bat an eye at it or look at him longer than a split second.

Six seconds in, and four of the eight enemies, plus an inmate, were dealt with, and another couple had at least taken some gunfire. Try as he might, though, his mad offensive still got delayed by sheer volume of enemy fire (with more coming in from the main prison hall), until he was forced to duck behind one of the fallen Hunters' husks, his back to the open elevator.

The room had little left, between Sheffer having destroyed all the Shield Hunters plus a regular Hunter, and Rock dismantling four more regular Hunters. There were three remaining, but they could scarce accomplish anything except jostle and bump Sheffer around, and even then, their rate of fire with their rifles was going to be too slow to keep him off balance—and that didn't even account for anyone else who might have come into to help finish them off.

The main prison row, a wide, open, space of several stories of traditional-looking barred cell blocks, was like what they had just faced, except times fifty. Not only were there Hunters and Shield Hunters dropping down from the ceiling, and inmates rioting every which direction, but there were also Gun Beetles hovering around, firing their cannons, and Wing Beetles soaring through like little fighter drones, strafing the escapees. Some of the Mono Beetles, normally used for surveillance, buzzed around running into inmates and zapping them with electric shocks.

Not a whole lot of the attention from that hall had been turned there way yet, but there were beams and bullets enough flying into make anyone reconsider rushing out there.

Supposedly, Ace and Jam were the last ones to go storming in through the battlefield, so shortly after Rock went tearing off in a small tornado of destruction, she was the one who saw his hapless shrug behind the pillars before he slid on his glasses (yes, very deliberately) and went blasting away on his own, chaos cards in hand.

Whatever firepower still pestered the hedgehog wouldn't pester him for much longer. Dashing from the room he just left, to the opposite side, three swipes of the arm meant three fewer heads on the Hunters, and ultimately into three less threats, before his boots skidded him to a halt a few feet to Rock's left. He pressed his back against the wall in a crouch in an attempt to make himself a small a target as possible.

"Doesn't look like we'll be heading out that way," he shouted just loud enough to be heard over the firepower in the prison hall. "Let's try the elevator!"

Rock, lying on his side on the cold metal floor behind a smoldering heap of robot carcass, hesitated to try an elevator in the middle of an apparent power outage and system failure. Ace's suggestion would have been contested as absurd had it not made the primate involuntarily cast a glance back to the elevator car. It was followed by a double take.

The elevator car was abnormally long and wide, even for a large elevator, had another set of doors on the other side, and had seats along the side walls, with hand-straps hanging from the ceiling. The windowless room wasn't an elevator at all; it was a tram car with doors on its front and back.

"Covering fire!" Rock shouted back to Ace as he propped up on his knife-holding hand and let rip a suppressive-fire flurry over his cover and through the prison hall door, giving an example of exactly what he needed: lots of destructive force to keep things out. He then turned his aim into the tram car door and let it have a three-shot burst, itself, pelting the double doors on the other end.

He pushed off the floor, charged through the short interior of the tram, and kicked the marred double doors full force. They buckled outward, but still didn't give way; with his pistol holstered, he wrapped both hands around his knife in reverse grip and stabbed the fiery blade in. He squinted and looked away from the shower of sparks, spewing smoke, and loudly-screaming metal as he steadily dragged it diagonally downward with all his weight, cutting a huge, red-hot slice down through the obstacle. He stumbled back gracelessly as the knife ripped free at the other corner, then lunged forward again and gave one more vicious stomp.

With that, the tram's back doors were open, and the group was free to move into the long, straight, downward-sloped tunnel beyond. The guts of the transit system were splayed open for all to see, with a pair of steel rails below and an electrical contact rail overhead. Conduits ran along the walls. It was a little hard to see, since the only light present was dim, red backup lighting (and the area was never meant to have anyone but maintenance personnel inside), but it was a path to travel somewhere.

"This wasn't on any of the maps," remarked Rock to whoever followed him through first.

Sheffer didn't need any well-aimed shots in order to travel across the room safely, still loaded down with the covering of rock as he abandoned the carcass of the downed Hunter and sprinted towards the train car. His rock-covered footfalls were loud as he lumbered through the car and out the crudely made exit, hopping down to join Rock within the tunnel.

"Then we're probably walking into territory where'd they really be pissed off at us," stated the hedgehog as the crystal on him began to crumble and fall. "But, better this then that madhouse of a room."

He shook his shoulders, the rest of the rock falling with a clatter to the floor. Sheffer was panting slightly, wiping the sweat from his forehead with the back of an arm. He could be destructive while using the strange new ability of his, but that didn't make a full suit of rock any lighter.

It was hardly the time or the place, but Jam couldn't help but feel utterly useless. She remained behind her pillar another few seconds, watching the carnage helplessly before making a panicked beeline for Ace and Rock's makeshift trench, and sliding for its cover like it was home plate. At the request for a little suppressive fire, it became painfully obvious that her role had devolved to "stay out of the way, and try not to get shot," and troubling though that was, there was little she could do about it at the moment.

So, detestable though it was, she waited until Rock bulldozed a path for her to follow, which thankfully came sooner than later. Her frustration with the situation seemed to be cultivating a recklessness in her, as she spent no time seeking any kind of opportune moment, but tore out from her cover the moment there was a place to run to, Hunters be damned.

She leapt onto the tracks barely a blink after the first primate, but said nothing in response to either his or Sheffer's comments, instead walking wordlessly ahead.

It was probably the only time Ace would end up using his gun, rather than the nigh-limitless supply of cards on his hand. The way he figured it, with that much chaos going on in the other room, the only participants in the fight who would come looking for the safe(r) cover of their room were the fleshy kind, rather than the Hunters and the like who seemed to have little in the way of self-preservation. So as much as he loathed wasting bullets, he managed to get his money's worth until the path was cleared.

Three unfortunate souls would be left clutching at their in shins in pain until the guard bots came to take them away, however.

When the time came, he was quick to hop on back with the rest of them, though much unlike Jam, finally feeling a sense of control over the situation. He didn't fail to take note of her especially sour demeanor however, but merely elected to avoid it for the time being. He holstered his pistol.

"I'd say we've earned the right to be pretty pissed at them," he answered, walking briskly with the rest of them down the tunnel. "What are the odds a jailbreak just pops up right when we're gettin' to the good part of our little interrogation?"

The group would soon find that Rock's idea of escaping through the tunnel involved running. Fast. Reason? Bullets and beams started blasting through the tram at the backs of their heads.

"Talk and run!" he advised most prudently as he shot off through the tunnel as fast as he could. (Easier said than done, with how cluttered the infrastructure beneath the rails was.)

To make matters worse, a squadron of Wing Beetles swooped into the hub room they just exited, flying and firing at whoever lingered behind. At least five barreled their way through the tram car to begin pursuing the group through the tunnel, their high-caliber, but slow-firing cannons thumping with painful volume in the enclosed space.

The tunnel was pretty long, and had at least one fork in it ahead; they'd have a pretty good run, but as fast as the whole group was, they could probably make it in a minute or less as long as they didn't get shot up by their pursuers. They were sitting ducks in that coverless space.

Rock's advice certainly came at an appropriate time-- as in, not half a second before a stray Beetle's shot boomed but two feet behind the serval with a force that almost made him trip on his feet. Ol' alley cat almost wished he didn't whip around to see what the source was; it might have saved him that much time to turn back the way he was facing and start hauling ass. "N'rrraaaaaah!" He half-growled, half-yelled out of being unable to think of anything better to express his constrained frustrations.

He didn't bother to take a shot as he was chased, too many pipes and tracks and miscellaneous crap sticking out of the floor and walls to trip on. So in the mean time, he played the hurdle event, the emergency lights casting fleeting glimmers of dim red on his face. And while he wasn't quite the town's parkour magician, he didn't seem to be terribly bad at it, either. Experience from leggin' it from the coppers had its perks.

He bounded over the small obstacles, hoisted himself over with a free hand over the larger ones, and narrowly ducked under the ones threatening to clonk his head above him. He was keeping himself busy, that was for sure, but the GUN Beetles didn't have to bother with any obstructions-- they could fly.

Abruptly, a deep noise that could only be described as chunk echoed through the hub room. With a hydraulic groan, the door that separated that space from the majority of the prison riot dropped down out of its recess, and slammed into the floor with an impact that shook dust out of the ceiling.

In sequence, the rest of the doors began to close around the room, effectively cutting off any further security from following them.

Pursuers cut off or not, Rock and friends still had several on their tails—but better several than all.

Rock, currently at the front of the pack, was actually pulling ahead even further until he realized the nature of the situation, and the inevitability that they couldn't outrun the GUN Wings. The things were really fodder-bots that none of them would have had trouble with under any other circumstances, but in that tunnel, stopping probably meant getting shot, while turning to shoot back meant tripping over something.

An idea came to the monkey. He planted his foot on the next low obstacle, jumped, twisted his body horizontal, and... landed on the rail. His extra-vehicular activity boots (fancy nomenclature for space shoes) had magnetic metal archplates. When they were turned off, they were in fact quite slick. With that rail traveling down the slope in a perfectly straight line, he was actually able to fling his arms out to get his balance and grind along completely unhindered after just a few seconds of adjustment.

With the way he grinned, even he must have realized the overindulgent extremeness of what he was doing. Nonetheless, he unholstered his pistol again, aimed backwards as he slid, and started gunning the things down in a barrage of loud, fiery bolts.

Pow-pow-pow.

He wobbled precariously. One Beetle burst into scrap.

Pow-pow-pow-pow-pow.

Only one more Beetle went down. Rock was lucky to be hitting anywhere in the vicinity of the targets. He had a unique philosophy about this sort of thing, though: where quality fails, use quantity.

Powpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpowpow...

Hopefully, the beam gun wouldn't overheat until they were all gone.

Not having time to decide if Rock was an absolute show-off or an utter genius with his idea to dispatch their pursuers, Sheffer was too busy himself avoiding whatever obstacles were in their way through the tunnel. He had considered just running down beside the rail, but with the monkey now precariously firing shots, the hedgehog didn't wish to become an accidental target.

Being as agile as he could, hopping over the pipes and such, he took a quick glance back, judging the distance between them and the Beetles. Not much time left before the things caught up with them, but at least Rock was achieving some progress with his shots. Sheffer wished for the chase to end sooner then later, though, and quickly formulated a sketchy idea.

Hurdling another pipe, a piece of crystal formed in one of his clenched hands, then began to expand outward, soon a sizable spear-like weapon in his hand. Suddenly, he leaped into the air with the most strength he could put into it, gaining a decent amount of air. With a twist of his body, he spun around, and with quick-spotting eyes, he threw the crystal spear, using the momentum of the spin to let it launch towards the Beetles.

Fortunately for him, it hits its mark, piercing right through one of the flying machines, creating a robot shish kebab as it fell to the floor of the tunnel. Completing a full rotation, the hedgehog landed smoothly on his feet, and with a triumphant grin, continued to sprint down the passageway, preparing the do the same trick for a second time.
