OoC: Collab between the SODAK HEROES

It was only after a short period of time (it was growing gradually darker, actually) that Team Henshin arrived at what appeared to be a rather large building, with even more spectacularly humongous buildings atop it, laid out like brightly-lit candles on a cake. Even from what had to have been three or four stories down to ground level, there was a faint hum of sound and excitement. One could almost swear a few balloons could be seen drifting away from the hubub and drifted away into the darkening skies a fact which certain fish could not resist pointing out.
After the "oohs" and "aahs" had been worked out of their systems, they filed their way into the elevator that would take them up into the land of well-lit criminal activity. Aside from a very angry-looking (and extremely short) fellow who smelled faintly like beer and smoke, who stood in the corner and refused to speak, the elevator ride was fairly uneventful. A few dings and pings later -- quite a short time, not even enough for the muzak to start up! -- and the doors opened with a faint pssssh noise, and light of a hundred colours spilled into the compartment.
A thousand flashing lights and signs awaited any comers, beyond what was a walkway, all but on-rails into what seemed to be a reception area. Regardless, the bright splendor of the area could be spied, if from a distance.

This was not lost on Mako, who, even as he was unceremoniously shoved past (and almost knocked over) by the aforementioned short, angry man, ogled at the sights around him. He may or may not have mouthed the word 'whoa'. With lights reflecting in wide orange eyes, he was one awestruck shark.
Or at least he was, until he turned to Sheffer beside him.
"Hey, Sheffie," he said, grinning wide.

Having been busy staring at the lights and colors of the complex, the hedgehog did not hear the shark's small take at yet another nickname for him, but once the words took a few laps in his mind, they finally registered. Sheffer turned to Mako with a brow raised, not exactly insulted by the use of the name, but more surprised at how feminine it sounded coming from the shark.

"Er... yeah?"

"Y'fit right in," the fish replied, putting his hands behind his head. "I mean, this place is shiny. Y'might say, it's even..." (he paused for dramatic emphasis) "Sparkly."
He paused again, as though for applause.
"It's like a match made in... ... a place where good matches are made. I mean, 'ya even look less irate than usual!"

Sheffer actually gave a smirk to the shark's comment, his mood lightened in the pulsing life of the complex.

"And you're just as giddy as ever, Mako," he said jokingly, taking a moment to look around a bit more.

Suddenly, he raised his arm before him, and, more for the entertainment of the shark beside him, covered it in the familiar crystal. The lights of the complex immediately began to flicker and shine through the somewhat clear rock, playing a variety of colors, mostly with a greenish hue, across the two and the ground beneath him.

"Guess this place is a little sparkly."

"Dude."
Well, at least he wasn't whining about being mugged.

"Oh, ah, excuse me! Excuse me, sir!"

Before the two individuals could take any steps towards the receptionists' desk, a spotted dalmatian clerk hurriedly made her way over, pointing quite insistingly at Sheff.

Uh oh. Did somebody already break a rule?

She seemed to have rigid posture, judging by how straight and tall she stood once she came to a stop. Gloved hands clasped in front of her, the young miss gave the two new patrons a polite bow, before resuming her stiffened stance. Wearing a straight black office suit, with a bright red cravat flowing from the collar, the only way anybody could tell she was even -employed- here was the bright, shiny badge on the pocket of her jacket. It, too, seemingly shared in the festivities, as the border was adorned with seven brightly colored jewels, a single gold star stamped in the middle.

Clearing her throat, she gave Mako a smile, before motioning over to Sheff with her gloved hand. "I'm very sorry, sir, but we do not allow the cashing in of crystallized arms from statues in the Hot Constellations Gambling District. We only accept transactions that include cash-to-casino-credit, or casino-credit-to-cash. Any valuable items that you have on your person must be taken back to your vehicle in the parking garage, or up to your hotel room for safe-keeping. After all, safety from any unfortunate mishaps in regards to your valuables is our host's number one concern!"

And she just... kept smiling. Shiny teeth, even...

Sheffer just stared at the canine for a moment, entranced by her stunningly white teeth before snapping out of his reverie to look in her eye, obviously confused. He took a moment to look down at himself, seeing his crystallized arm.

"Oh, this?" he asked, pointing to his arm with a normal finger. "Ah, this is nothing."

Too prove his complete and utter innocence to the dalmatian, he gave a small flex of his covered arm, the crystal immediately cracking at his will and eventually falling from the limb. It clattered on the tiled floor beneath him, forming a pile of jagged and mismatched pieces of green rock.

"See? It isn't a statuuuue..." His voice trailed off suddenly, seeing the mess he had created on the spotless tile. He first prodded it with his foot, hoping in some way it would disappear (he really didn't know the full extent of his abilities yet), but when this failed, he swiped a majority of the crystal with the side of his foot, only managing to spread it in a larger area, and lacking a proper carpet to hastily hide it under.

Sheffer's next action was to appear innocent, hoping that the dog before him would not bother to look down.

The clerk's pose -frozen- in place, the dalmatian watched with... one of those expressions on her face, the smile gradually wilting as the pieces of one of her patrons clattered to the hard, tiled floor. Eying the mess of arm crystal on the floor, the canine simply gazed back at Sheff, with a look of utmost... confusion, really. Her left eye clearly twitched a bit, but it wasn't too much longer before she gave the hedgehog a half-lidded expression, and a meager sigh.

"Well, can't really say that that was the strangest thing I've seen while on-shift."

After a moment's pause, however, she stood straight up once more -- took a long, deep breath -- and gave the two an apologetic bow. "Please forgive me for my... erroneous judgment. It is clear that you are -also- one of our, ah... guests?" The cheerful smile reappeared upon her face, and the shine returned to her eyes as she waved a gloved hand towards the many lines up at the Receptionists' booth. "If this is your first time here, you will need to head to the middle line to purchase your entry fee. However, if you are one of our honored guests for the upcoming Boxing Tournament, all you simply have to do is provide your identification to the empty line off to the left. Once you've been given clearance, merely board one of the Monorail vehicles, and head to the hotel for further direction!"

Hands behind her back, the dalmatian tilted her head to the side, and again, gave them her a most welcoming smile. "Are there any questions? I will be happy to assist to the best of my ability!"

My, someone... was really enthused about her line of work... And she apparently paid no mind to the mess once she was back in her groove -- although, it wasn't as if she had to worry about the objects at all, as a couple of -very- short janitors, clothed from top to bottom, appeared and shoveled what clutter there was into their respective scoops, before almost vanishing from sight once more.

"Er... not at the moment ma'am..."

How much do they pay this woman? he thought, staring as the short janitors quickly swept up a majority of the his discarded rock.

"Thanks for the... er, notification about the stone-arm-thing. I'll make sure not to confuse anyone else in the future."

He quickly turned to Mako, giving a small nod to the middle desk, beginning to walk away from strangely peculiar canine. Her attitude to her job was almost... troubling. Was this common in this city?

"Let's go get this over with." Sheffer said as he showed a small grin, starting to put distance between him and the dalmatian. "I want to see if my room has a jacuzzi or not."

Hoji was not far behind the shark and hedgehog as they entered the fancy building and they were stopped by a dalmation clerk, or...something to the effect.

He sighed and shook his head as Sheff spread his crystal droppings all over the floor with no place to shovel them in an attempt to hide them. Why he was still in crystal form at all was perplexing at best. If they were to be attacked, and he was already in battle garb, what opportunity was there for a flashy transformation?

None, from what Hoji could tell. Granted, this time it was just his arm. Perhaps he didn't fully have control of his powers yet. Hoji derailed this train of thought with a shake of his head.

"We should be fine, ma'am. Thank you." He assured the clerk with a smile before heading toward the front desk to the empty line, reaching into his back pant pocket for his wallet, preparing to flash his ID as instructed. And no, Hoji thought nothing of an employee who seemed to enjoy their job so thoroughly.

Approaching the elevators it became obvious the entire group would not be going up all at once. So they broke up and took separate elevators. Jack stood in front of the doors waiting for them to open, and with the oh-so-pleasant 'BING!' the shiny metal doors slid open for the sheriff. The pair of otters inside genuinely looked alarmed a moment before they hurried out past her. Jack disliked this city, and the farther in they got the more grumpy she became. The griffin had made no effort to hide her distaste, but for a moment Jack worried if she'd just been standing there scowling at the door, and subsequently the otters inside the elevator without even noticing.

Jack stepped into the elevator turning around and pressing her floor before she realized what had actually startled the otters. Standing behind her was none-other then Tank. Jack was somewhat relived to know she hadn't been the one scaring the locals, whom where not easily spooked. On second thought she realized the elevator would not accommodate someone Tanks size and many other people. But before she could voice her concerns...

Target gave Tank a nudge/push/shove towards the elevator as she eagerly hopped around behind him. "C'mon! C'mon! Shiney and Mako are upstairs alreaddddyyyy!" Whined the over eager robot as she seemed to be in a hurry to get inside the elevator and upstairs.

"Target, pleece," the reptile pleaded, opting out of calling her "Miss" out of simple confusion for proper use of the term. Of couse, he did step in, and pushed the appropriate button as soon as he could, if only to appease his frantic pink partner. A growl of a sigh pushed from his throat-- this city made him uncomfortable as well. Not for fear of his safety, or the safety of his team, but just the simple fact that such a place could exist in the first place. A wretched hive of scum and villany. Or so he once heard. And of course, this feeling was only added to when the first notes of elevator music invaded his ears.

Jack sighed as Target pushed her way into the elevator, which seemed to groan under the added weight, which Jack rolled her eyes at. She crossed her arms as the three waited as the elevator started to rise.

For a moment there was a hissing sound like air escaping a balloon. Jack wondered about it a moment but it stopped as soon as it started. Then she took note of a truly offensive smell.

"Target!"

"it's harmless exhaust." She insisted putting her hands on her hips. "Everyone does it."

Five more guests were not far behind those already being assailed by the over-courteous greeter. Rock, Jam, Ace, and Caz were skulking down the main hall, on their way to the elevators along with their fifth addition: The odd, drugged-up bird chick (Bird chick, haha, okay, it's not that funny). At some point on the journey there, as she became ever more lucid, Rock had managed to at least glean her name, but hadn't yet pressed for any details about what happened.

"For now, you can just come with us until you're thinking a little straighter—we'll just say you're in our party," Rock had offered at some point earlier in the walk. But, as they actually arrived, and stepped onto the largest and most central of the elevator platforms, and began their ascent into the pandemonium of the casino glitz and glamor, Rock wondered if the disorienting situation would really help matters any.

"I hope there ain't no... burnin' bull$*#% hoops to jump through for this registration," he remarked seconds before the elevator cleared the top and they were free to step off. "He seems like a bull#$%*er. To me."

Jam, for the most part, hadn't said much to their peculiar new party addition, save for the obligatory introduction, and short, distracted replies to any pertinent questions/comments made. As the scenery gradually began to segue to that of a city that never slept (or quit spending money), one could see wheels turning behind the monkey's attentive jade eyes, but over precisely what was anyone's guess.

As Rock spoke up, however, her far-off stare turned on him as an amused smirk. "Are you kidding? That commercial was practically broadcast in smell-o-vision. He'll probably have you tow a bulldozer with your teeth, or arm wrestle a crane, or something for tryouts."

Mako whistled innocently, obviously all but pretending he didn't know the hedgehog when he was getting the rundown from the employee.

He paused, looked back over at the elevator, and shrugged. "I think we shooould wait for..." he paused, and tried to take a quick mental toll. "... the others," he finished after a moment, meaning Tank, Jack, and Target.
In the meantime, he looked the lobby a bit curiously, growing oblivious to the hedgehog and raccoon.

A short distance away, beyond the check-in desk, the short man from the elevator was leaning on the wall, completely zoned out as an employee was trying to tell him something. Something about "we can't admit you again unless you stop abusing the hotel staff"-- not that he was listening. He stopped, however, and raised his eyebrows at the rocks falling off the hedgehog's body, and he blinked perhaps once or twice. Murdoch tapped the toe of one boot on the floor, his attention now thoroughly distracted from what he was supposed to be paying attention to.

Well, you sure didn't see that every day.

No longer as drugged as before and able to have feeling back in her body, Ember was a right happy camper in all aspects. Finally learning the names of the nice people whom she met and where exactly they were at the moment; the bird seemed not at all distrubed over being found in a duffel bag. She even attempted to hold some conversation with Jam but saw it didn't work out so good so left it at saying the monkey had a nice voice. When Rock made his offer, she couldn't help but grin.

"Aw thanks! Thanks Rock! You really don't need too but hey, can't pass that up!"

At least she had stopped calling him 'angel'.

Reaching the top of the platform, Ember's jaw dropped when she saw what exactly this place had to offer. "I love this place oh yes I do."

EDIT: Fixed any continuity errors that were in the original post, and added some things.

Meanwhile a short-lived ring at one of the other elevators signaled the entrance of another person. The side doors flung open, orange heels slipped out, shortly followed by the curvacious form of their owner; A beige lamb with a grin wild and exuberant enough to rival the receptionist's.

And why not? According to her, she had every right to feel super groovy that night. Mary Monroe, reporter extrordinare was officially on the scene, and what a dee-licious scandal it was she'd be cooking up this time. One of the biggest to ever to hit Westside Island in years, she'd bet. Mary's eyes danced sharply, with a radiance that belied madness as her mind feverently went about trying to imagine it. Vince the Porcupine behind bars, his dirty dealings made public and posted over the covers of every magazine. The gossip of the year and then some, not to mention more sources for laughs in her mornings than 7AM Dopey Toons. Maybe then the crime rate would go up! Ooh, and that could mean even better assignments here, wouldn't it? Mary repressed the urge to squeal with delight. Either way, things were gonna get a lot more interesting on this island, that was for sure, and interesting was what she lived for. It was obvious to anyone with enough street smarts in this place (or in her case, reliable sources) that Vince's tourney was as big a scam as his slot machines. What had her curious though, was what it was he was up to. She never knew him personally, but Vince didn't sound like the kind of guy who'd just step aside and let someone walk with one of the most powerful stones in the world. Last she checked, he wasn't even that generous to his patrons. It had to be a trap, no, it was unquestionably a trap, and one so ridiculously obvious that she wouldn't be surprised if even some the heroes she heard joining caught a clue. But then, that was was kind of risk that made the tournament so worthwhile to her. This wasn't a battle of strength, but one of wits. Of who could dispose of who first. Vince was probably out to get them all somehow, but would it ultimately matter? Could her smooth moves top him first, or would one of the heroes step in and expose him before she could? Certainly a story worth being a part of, either way, which was for Mary, what the meaning of life was all about. Why settle for doing the same old things everyday when you could live life made of more interesting things to talk about?

And speaking of 'interesting'..

"--Oww!" She cried aloud. "Hey, what the--Huh?"

The lamb jerked from her thoughts immediately as something sharp pricked her skin. Ironically, Mary hadn't been doing enough scheming in the short term to do so much as watch where it was she was going. She looked down at her shirt, flakes of green shards stuck to the seams, then up at a green hedehog with something suspiciously wrapped over his arm.

"Oh."

A wave of recognition quirked against her face awkwardly. "Oooooh, yeah. Right. You." Mary sputtered. "You're that.. hedgehog who can turn into a walkin' rock thingamagig, right? My bad" She laughed sheepishly (and no pun intended on that), "guess I should've seen you there, huh?"

The lamb extended her hand. "The name's Mary. Mary Monroe. Pleased to meetcha!" She stated cheerfully, though in truth, the pleasure was hardly hers. She had no intentions of staying chum with the guy or even in his presence for very much longer, as heroes almost always rubbed her the wrong way; hammy attitudes and overbearing self-righteousness amongst Mary's list of reasons why she rarely worked with them despite having similar jobs. Sure, she could try and keep a leveled enough head, remain professional in their company and all that jazz but her patience only went but so far. It didn't take much for heroes to seriously bump and grind at her gears like a certain hedgehog who got shards stuck in her shirt, but the tournament alone was going be tricky enough for her to deal with, and she'd rather just make up with him to avoid running into anymore levels of awkward.

Minor continuity issue underway. Just pointing it out before any more confusion arises.

Sheffer only covered one arm in crystal as he arrived, to amuse Mako. Badge acted like he was entirely covered with crystal, and now Mary has done the same, even though Sheffer no longer has any crystal on him. See the following excerpts. (Underlines added for emphasis.)

Sheffer wrote:
Suddenly, he raised his arm before him, and, more for the entertainment of the shark beside him, covered it in the familiar crystal.

Sheffer wrote:
Sheffer just stared at the canine for a moment, entranced by her stunningly white teeth before snapping out of his reverie to look in her eye, obviously confused. He took a moment to look down at himself, seeing his crystallized arm.

"Oh, this?" he asked, pointing to his arm with a normal finger.

To prove his complete and utter innocence to the dalmatian, he gave a small flex of his covered arm, the crystal immediately cracking at his will and eventually falling from the limb.

Wild Badge wrote:
Why he was still in crystal form at all was perplexing at best. If they were to be attacked, and he was already in battle garb, what opportunity was there for a flashy transformation?

Mary wrote:

Ironically, Mary hadn't been doing enough scheming in the short term to do so much as watch where it was she was going. She looked down at her shirt, flakes of green shards stuck to the seams, then up at what she thought at first was a green, jewled statue of a hedgehog in the middle of the hallway.

..Up until it moved.

This isn't a huge deal, but somebody needs to decide what's actually going on, because this very minor detail/action is turning Sheff into Schrodinger's Cat, a a crystal hedgehog of multiple parallel states of existence. If Sheff is okay with it, he can just say the character still has some crystal stuck to him somewhere, and we'll compromise and move on.

Aah, sorry about that. I sort of misread Hoji's part about him being in crystal form, and thought "wait a minute, Sheff is still a walking rock and IN the hotel?" Its all good, I'll just make a minor edit and clear it up since nobody's posted yet.

"Hneh. Heh. Heh. Smell-o-vision. Crazy."

"Y'know what'd be a real sh**ty thing t'do?" asked Ace with some amusement, stretching his shoulders as he spoke. "Anyone is allowed in, no hassle, no loopholes, but only if your criminal record is squeaky clean." He smiled lowly for a second or two, but stopped upon the realization that every single one of his party would have suffered being haunted by ghosts and sharing a plane ride with Sheriff Jack for nothing... except for Ember. "...Hope that's not the case," he mumbled.

Elsewhere, as the third and final elevator DINGed into place (woe be to the people on the bottom floor, three elevators in use at once), out stepped a giant tortoise who was all too happy to get out of his ride as quickly as possible. Rare as it was to see Tank in an irritable mood, prolonged exposure to elevator music and robo-farts seemed to do the trick.

He huffed his giant frame over to the shark and hedgehog combo, striving valiantly to transmute frustration into determination. "Hai em prleparled," he said to the two of them, and turned to the empty line where Hoji stood. "Aye ass-oom thet ees hwere we go."
