"Aye-aye, Captain Sparkly!" the shark exclaimed in regards to the hedgehog's word, and he began a-walking. (Would he let that nickname ever die? No.)

Mako seemed... a tad distracted, even as he followed in the path through the inactive robots that Sheff had left behind, making some under-his-breath remarks about 'parting the robotic sea', a bit wary... and poking random robots as he passed them, seeming altogether far too entertained with it.

"Wouldn't it suck if these things turned on?" he said, loud enough for anyone who wanted to hear him to hear him, without a thought that it might have been a bad idea to speak so loudly-- one never knew. Was he tempting fate, considering how he was poking and prodding anything within arm's length.
Even moreso, as he picked up a stray arm that had come off of one of the machines and was now using that to investigate and invade their nonexistant personal bubbles much like a small child (or Mako on a normal day that did not entail being in an underwater Eggman base) would use a stick to poke at things in the river. Oh well-- it wouldn't miss its arm, he figured.

After a moment, and still investigating with the robot's arm, he spoke up again. "So, uh, what if something does go wrong or turn on orrrrr... y'know?"

Toby watched the mechanical massacre occur, caused by simply backing into one of the frazzled rust-buckets. he whistled out as the fell one by one, chuckling to himself.

"These guys are gonna do our job for us." He grinned ear to ear. The kangaroo rat took the opportunity to stretch from the long sub ride, still listening to the griffin and raccoon as his bones creaked and popped. As he opened his eyes, He noticed the hedgehog already heading in. "No point waiting around, I guess." He shrugged. Not sure I wanna ride this thing just yet, though... He shuddered a bit. This new board was a monstrosity.

He began to run off after the hedgehog.

Wild Badge looked at the griffin as she asked about Power Mask, and almost said something, but was cut off by a geyser of a splash from the moonpool entrance. Caused by none other than the hero in question. He snickered a bit from behind his helmet.

Almost as cool as his entrance. He then looked at the hedgehog who was already making his way. Not to be left behind, he headed off in the suggested direction through the up-sloped tunnel.

He passed Mako, patting him briefly on the shoulder; answering his query, "Defend ourselves, of course."

Henshin watched the periscope cam view as the group began to make their way onward. More than a little concerned about the suspicious surroundings, he had already begun scouting for trouble. The sub's built-in microimpulse radar system (yes, it had both sonar for underwater, and radar for detection on the surface) began sweeping for even the slightest activity or signs of life in the chamber, but came up with nothing.

That was promising. It was such a sensitive device that it could detect the movement of organs in living things. On that note, the old moth took a moment to be nosy about the condition of his team, and, unknown to them, examined their vital signs from afar, half out of concern, and half out of the boredom of being the one left to watch the car (so to speak).

"So, that fish boy does have lungs," he observed idly. (Marine biology was never a focus of his research, at least beyond the dinner table.) "And Power Mariachi could stand to lose a few pounds, before he busts out of that shell any more than he already does..."

So very nosy. But when he reached Toby, he blinked several times and sat up his seat. He zoomed in and rescanned.

"... oh, my."

He shook his head, quickly browsed through his database, recovered the kangaroo rat's name, then picked up the mic for the sub's external loudspeaker, cleared his throat, and pathetically groaned: "Oh, ohhh," he groaned pathetically, faking pain. "I've fallen and I can't get up! Mr. Cotton, could you come back for a moment, and help a poor old man?"

It was a pretty awful ploy, but he hoped it'd work.

The tunnel Badge had directed the group into sloped upward for quite some distance (to understate the matter entirely). It wasn't a terribly steep grade, but it seemed so long that it might have been a tiring ascent on foot after a while. Pipes and thick wires ran along the tunnel's sides; occasional bands of yellow and black caution-tape-like decals encircled the path from floor, to wall, to ceiling. Security cameras could be seen along the ceiling; a red light blinked on them, indicating they were active.

Soon, the path opened up into another room, considerably smaller than the last, but an undoubtedly welcome section of flat, level ground to walk on. To their right, doors with portholes; airlocks, specifically, leading back out to open water. Dead ahead, their little "roadway" they'd been walking continued onward. To their left, a monorail system of some sort began to run parallel to the indoor roadway; from the looks of it, they were in some kind of transportation center, because just beyond the monorail boarding platform, on the other side, were also more elevators.

It was really weird. The place had this way of making it sound like they were just... in a big, metal can, completely alone. Lights continued to buzz, machinery hummed, and every little sound they made reverberated, but there was absolutely, utterly no sign of life or activity otherwise. They might as well have been on another planet, for how occupied and active the facility felt.

That's why it probably came as more of a surprise when the lights dimmed and flickered, and the PA system began to hiss with static. Little control panels embedded in the wall next to the burly airlock doors began to make strange, grating beeps, not unlike an emergency broadcast test, while scrambled text appeared in their displays. Red lights then appeared over the doors, and, counter to any safeguard that should have been built in, they began to open, and water began to roar in through the still-small gap like whitewater rapids, growing constantly.

Power Mask had little time to even roll his eyes at the doctor's request, before yet another, more urgent call was brought to his attention. His reptile brows furrowed steeply and suspiciously even at the lighting's initial fade, but he only managed to whisper one command before all watery hell broke loose:

"Meestur Cot-ton, hyou may do well to check on thee dawctur."

And then, all watery hell broke loose.

The sudden force of liquid pressure on his ankles was hardly enough to tip a man of his stature over, but even he had to force himself to stay upright. No doubt it was an even greater threat to his comrades-- not just for the strength of the water, but also the fact that only one of them was a fellow creature of the aquatic. Tank hated it when there was a problem he couldn't punch away. It was always simpler, then. But he was no knuckle-dragger, either.

"There, to thee monorail!" he shouted over the bedlam of waves and alarms, and pointed in the appropriate direction (just in case). He wasn't quite hopping in yet, himself, however. The safety of his own teammates was a high priority.

Jack rolled her eyes at the ridiculous doctor as they trudged up the slop. She was about to start flying if only to save her legs when they finally reached a summit of sorts. She glanced around, sparing a nervous look at the airlock then looking at the ramp. When she noted the monorail suddenly she felt much better about the continuing climb.

"This'sa way!" She said cheerfully but it drained away quickly when she saw the airlock door starting to freak out. Her eyes went wide in terror as she scrammbled towards the monorail but was thrown of her feet by the wave of water, sending her tumbling along until she could pull herself up and get her wings going. She'd slid a ways back down the ramp, and was now fluttering quickly over the rushing water flooding towards where the sub was left behind. She flew over the water back towards the monorail checking the water for any of the others on her way back.

Toby swung back around at the doctor's call, his flaming red new board almost flying straight into the gargantuan tortoise nearby. "...Huh?" He paused a bit, and shrugged. He did have a board, after all. If anybody was gonna go back and help, it might as well be one who wasn't going to have to swim there.

"Oh, sure! I'm on it." He tossed the board down, wincing a bit as he stepped aboard. Toby had no idea what his sponsors were thinking with this one; the thing was as fast as anything he had ever ridden, but it could hardly turn. The poor guy was have serious board separation issues from his good old New Leaf.

He took it slow at first, however, and was out on the water in no time. It seemed like, as long as he took it slow, it wasn't so bad. He glanced back to see the group dealing with a massive cascade of water, silently cursing the fact that he had to go back. It looked like fun. Toby wasn't the type to leave anybody in need, though, especially the elderly. As he arrived at the sub, he hopped off the board and up onto the sub, Kyle close behind. Reaching back down to the water, he lifted up the piece of junk Strata had passed off on him, and knocked on the hull of the sub.

"Hey, this is Toby! I'm outside, Doc! Can you open up?"

The initial wave of water caught Sheffer off guard, his legs being thrown from underneath him, landing face down in the fast-flowing water. Feeling himself being dragged back the way they just came across the metal floor, he forced both hands down, pushing himself back to his feet. Yet when he stood, he began to lose balance again, not possessing the mass to remain in one spot within the rushing water.

But he could easily fix that problem.

Before the water had a chance to knock him down again, a layer of crystal rapidly began to appear around his feet, then moved on to encase his legs from the knee down. As it grew, he could feel the combined weight of his own body and the newly formed rock beginning to anchor him down, the crystal even protecting him from the cold ocean water. How convenient.

With his new achievement, he grinned a bit, but for only a moment. There was still a new obstacle to get past, and sitting there would do no good for him or anyone else.

Hearing Tank's words, and seeing a glimpse of Jack flying by across the rushing waves, he began to make his way towards the monorail, fighting the current with his crystal-clad footwear. The muffled sound of rock clumping against metal could be heard as he walked, the hedgehog making good progress.

"Seriously...?"

Badge queried rhetorically to no one in particular. Compared to this, the prospect of all the robots coming to life seemed a bit minor. Before Tank even finished his statement about the monorail, he was booking it. He wasn't about to beat rushing water, though and was nearly knocked on his butt.

He waded towards the monorail and entered, holding the door open for the others.

"Let's go!" the scarf-clad raccoon urged. He didn't really wanna stress-test the monorail's waterproof-ness.

Would the monorail still work in the rapidly flooding environment? Thankfully, probably. This particular train was a suspended type, hanging from its rail rather than standing on it, which meant all the crucial equipment was toward the top.

Once the group made their way inside, they'd find a control panel with a very simple, very large set of buttons perhaps intended to be operated by robots lacking finer motor skills. It didn't look unlike a CD player's controls, honestly: A big arrow to activate the train, a pause symbol (presumably a "hold"), and a bright red square labeled "EMERGENCY STOP." Three guesses on which they'd want to use right then and there (in the absence of a "get the hell out of here doubletime" button).

Water continued to rush in, and was starting to run inside the open monorail cars as well. The air lock was of limited size, so they had a little time to work with, but not much; the sooner they all got on board, the better off they'd be.

... Hopefully.

Every security camera in the area was pointed at the monorail.

Sheffer was next to arrive at the monorail car, stepping in past the door-holding raccoon, muttering a small "thanks".

Now in a somewhat more dry environment (he couldn't help but notice the thin layer of water forming on the car's floor), the hedgehog caused the crystal to fall from his legs and feet, kicking the debris out of the way so as not to get in the path of the others when they would show up. The ability could be handy, but it sure left an unneeded amount of leftovers.

He then turned to see the monorail's overly simplistic controls, raising a brow at the sight. Guess Eggman wasn't one for being complex.

"You know, or all I've talked about wishing somewhere less dry, this is not quite what I had in mind," Mako remarked as he hopped into the monorail. His complaint was perhaps because there was a crucial difference between swimming and being forced off your feet by a surge of water and face-planting into it, which the shark had done

He looked over his shoulder, figuring that most of them would be okay without assistance, and turned to look at the controls. He felt a little self-deprecating voice in the back of his head: even I could work this thing, man!
However, he refrained from commenting on that. Much like Sheffer, he simply raised an eyebrow, and in fact he elbowed the hedgehog and pointed to the buttons, almost as though Sheffer couldn't see them for himself. "This ferreal, man, or did I just hit my noggin out there?"

Once he was sure everyone was secured (at least, for the most part) inside the monorail, the tortoise wasted little time moving inside himself, and shutting the door behind him. He obviously didn't like the fact that a small degree of water was still seeping through, but just as obviously preferred it over the alternative.

"Haye ken assurrlyou," he said, and stepping forth meaningfully. The console controls were examined briefly, and he pressed his finger on the most appropriate button. "Thees eez as forrleal as it gets." He gave a brief glance over his shoulder to his team just long enough to issue a friendly warning. "Do not let hyour guard down for even one moment."

Probably much to Tank's displeasure, the door of the train comically sprang back open with a great, bouncy clatter when he tried to forcibly shut it. It wasn't until he tried the actual button that a pleasant "ping" sound came from somewhere in the train car, and all the doors slid shut and latched of their own accord.

Water sloshed around their ankles as the monorail started smoothly forward, then suddenly lurched up the incline ahead with impressive acceleration, pooling all the salty seawater somewhere near the rear of the car. If they weren't tightly holding onto something, they'd probably all be piled up back there in it. Still, at least they were in motion, and going up, too. It only took seconds for the flooding room to become but a memory, leaving but the dim-lit, narrow tunnel ahead to be worried with.

Orange lights whizzed by on either side. The monorail whirred along smoothly, with just the occasional small jostle as it rounded gentle bends, and kept following the dark, windowless tunnel upward. For a moment, it acted like it was losing power, and the engine seemed to cut, but whatever the disturbance was, it was brief, and the train continued on unhindered.

About a minute later, it leveled out and began braking (again, harshly—it was meant for robots, not people), then came to a halt in that dark, claustrophobic space.

There was a jerk and clank, like the track itself was moving or reconfiguring; a door slammed shut behind them, and water began to flood in all around the monorail. Into what horrible chamber had they been routed? It was hard to tell, but just when it probably began to look like they were sure to be drowned, it became apparent that the vehicle was completely waterproof, and intended to be immersed. Soon enough, a door opened ahead, and shimmering, water-shaded sunlight filtered in as the train zoomed out along its aquatic track, burbling quietly along on its way far beneath the waves in the vivid blue ocean on its way to another wing of the massive facility.

It was an experience, alright—There probably weren't many folks who could claim to have taken a ride on an underwater train. Before anybody could be too elated, though, the "EMERGENCY STOP" button lit up as if someone had pressed it, a loud grinding sound came from the rail overhead, and the train viciously slammed to a halt.

... Stuck. In the ocean.
