The doctor looked quizzically at Mako.

"Hoji, you didn't tell me you brought us sashimi for the trip. It looks fresh, too. How thoughtful of you."

His tone just barely sounded dull and cynical enough to indicate that he was aware he was being insulted by the shark, and that he was indeed retaliating, and not being yet more senile.

Mako eyed the doctor in return, looking something between worried and put out, as though he couldn't quite be sure if he had really heard the dry tone in the old man's voice. He eventually decided on it (for his own state of mind), but he muttered something that sounded suspiciously like, "Fish taco, not a sashuralamamishi or... whatever...".

Jack sighed heavily listening to the others and the batty moth. She fixed her hat and looked at the others, then shook her head slowly, smirking ever so much. "We ain't gotta a choice, boys. Doc here is our only lead fer the emeralds or Eggman. Honestly, I don't know why I s'pected anything else given Hoji's costume."

Target whined out loud. Well as close of a noise as she could make. "Can I please go? I know I can't swim, but I'll be good! I wont breath or anything!" She begged Jack like a child begging to go out with their friends. "If Sir Sparkly can go can't I?"

"What'er you yammerin' about Target?" She said looking at the robot as she fluttered up into the air and over to the submarine in question. "Ya'll better stay here, If I need backup I'll call ya. You've gotta... uh.... Guard the dock, from Eggman, case he comes back."

If Target had lips to pout with she'd be doing a heck of a job, her shoulders slumped and she plopped onto her butt on the dock with a sighing noise. "All right. Is your phone going to like, work?"

"It's water proof, near as I can recken." Jack offered looking down into the sub. "Look's dry 'nuff. Lets try an get Tank in first."

"Sherliff, plees!" Tank beckoned, stepping up to the top of the sub. "Hcwen I am een attire soch as thees, I eemplorlyou, to address me as Powar Mask. Haye cannot risk thee safety off mai louved ones, should mai enemies, ever hear." He gave her a moment to let that sink in, but during which, seemed to realize (for once) how terribly melodramatic he sounded, and added with a humble shrug. "Eh, eet eez, eh... s-superhero, thing. Jost 'Mask' eef you plrefer." Cough.

"So, eh, how do I eh-bout thees," he mumbled with an uncertain shake of his head, looking down at the tiny little hatch. Mostly rhetorical, as the very next thing he did was place both feet on either edge of the hole, and quite suddenly suck his limbs into his shell, leaving gravity to do the rest of the work.

As Tank proceeded in attempting to make his way into the sub, Sheffer walked over to Target.

"Hey, you think you could hold onto this for me?" he asked the CT, holding out his EX Gear. "Really no use for me underwater, and, well, I heard what happened to Toby's... really don't want mine around anything Eggman related after that."

His words were the truth, but he hid the fact that he didn't trust it around the doctor either. Sheffer had an presumption that the moth would get his hands on the thing and tinker around with it, probably making it worse in the process. Yeah, it wasn't the best board around, but it was all he had. Plus, he didn't even know yet how cramped it would be in the submarine... the board would probably just get in the way in the long run.

Doc H flitted (well, as fast as he could "flit", more like puttered with his little jetpack) back around Badge and slapped him feebly on the shoulder. Something sounded like it popped or cracked when he did so. "Comecome now, I'll show you the controls," declared the moth, before casually butt-dropping on Tank and giving him the last little nudge necessary to fall through the hatch.

A crash and the sound of something surely breaking came from inside.

"We're okay!"

Anyway, once the others made their way in, they'd find... that it was actually pretty dang luxurious for a submarine. Rather than having that raw, metal-bodied look one might associate with the inside of old nuclear subs from movies and the like, it looked more like some sort of space-age automobile or aircraft interior, with curvaceous, clean white panels, brassy details, cool blue lights, brushed steel panels, advanced displays, large seats and numerous handrails, and all sorts of other needlessly expensive-looking amenities, including at least a couple small refrigerators of refreshments. The main deck was a moderate-sized, round chamber, with a cushy captain's seat, the helmsman's seat at the very front in a section of recessed, monitor-laden wall, and various other stations, including a navigation area at the dead-center, with a glowing volumetric display of the Earth free-floating in the air. There were no windows to be spoken of at all; just lots of screens providing camera feeds that mimicked real view ports, including a large, round one on the ceiling. The seats were cushy, but waterproof-looking. Off to the side of the room was actually an open hole—A moonpool—with water beneath, kept out purely by the pressure of the cabin.

"Mind this thing," grumbled Henshin as he carefully approached it, minding his footing most attentively, and flipped a lever. A panel slid shut over it and locked into place. (So that was how he got wet.)

"Before we set out, there is one thing of vital importance," he then announced, then gave everyone present a crotchety, sour glare, one by one. "... None of you get seasick, right? If you need to barf your guts out, do it before we leave! No vomiting allowed! At all!"

Wild Badge had been working with the decrepit old moth long enough that the sound of popping and breaking when he did things didn't bother him anymore. He had so many replacement parts, it was hard to keep track of what he was actually born with. After the moth and tortoise cleared the entryway, he climbed down as well.

"Well now..." He said upon touching bottom and getting a glimpse at the extravagant interior, "You've outdone yourself, old man."

He made his way to the helm, more than eager to get started ... once he was instructed on what all the controls did. He was certain the controls were as unusual as their creator.

Late for the party, a small dot in the distance was growing ever closer to the group boarding the sub. In fact, it was getting faster and faster... way too fast for the tastes of Toby Cotton.

"I hate this thingI hate this thingI hate this thingI HATE THIS THING."

On a brand new board, Toby absolutely screamed onto the dock.

"GET OUTTA' THE WAY!!!"

Without warning, Toby swerved hard, dropping him hard onto the dock and off his new board. The board skidded to a stop near the sub, but it's rider went straight off the dock and into the drink. He was only under a few seconds, but Toby surfaced coughing and spewing out some mumbling that sounded like other-worldly obscenities. He reached up to the dock and began to pull himself back up.

"...needs to know how to make a decent gear, can't even turn the d*** thing..."

The second late arrival, Toby's faithful chao, Kyle, appeared on the scene moments later, hovering over the sight of his big buddy taking his unexpected bath. He giggled, cocking an eyebrow at the boarder. "Keba tu ju?"

"...The board sucks..." Toby's frown stretched as far down as it could go.

Before Target had a chance to reply to Sheffer's question, a certain kangaroo rat came barreling into the area, the hedgehog only managing to hear a yell and a large splash before turning around. All he saw was a chao (the guy must have gotten both of him together again) and one lone board.

Jogging over to the spot of the chaos, he peered over the edge of the harbor down to the water below, seeing Toby floating there.

"Heh..."

Sheffer lowered an open hand to the rodent. "Need help?"

"Help would be nice..." Toby reached up, grabbing the hedgehog's hand and pulling himself onto the dock. He glanced over to the source of his tribulation.

"...New board." He frowned.

Mako, ignorant to the plight of the rat, had hoisted himself into the submarine and shimmied on down, blinking when he gazed upon the interior of the submarine.
Then he blinked some more.

He muttered something about 'did he steal this?', asking it of nobody in particular (and only belatedly did he realize that the moth would probably hear him anyway, knowing his luck).
Obviously, the shark was not entirely confident in the old man, though his resentment was much towards the submarine he now found himself standing in. He eyed the just-closed hole with a hint of curiousity, but was quickly distracted by his doubt in the doctor, and his loathing of the submarine that had so gracelessly (as if Mako were one to talk about grace) surfaced mere moments ago, by the fact that...

It was cool. He faintly heard the splash of an out-of-control Toby outside, thought nothing of it, and turned to the moth. "Naw, I'm good on the sea-sick-y thing," he said. "It'd kinda suck if I wasn't, am I right?" he asked with a grin, putting his hands behind his head.

Sheffer looked to the rat's new riding gear, then down to his that he still held under his arm, thinking.

"You know, I could just lend you mine for now," he said to Toby, motioning to his own board. "Probably is a little less stiff on control, and you have more use for it at the moment it seems. I was going to leave this behind for the moment being anyway."

The Griffin looked at Tank as he explained himself and his reasoning behind wanting to be referred to as 'Power Mask'. Jack looked as if this was news to her, and it was likely it was given she didn't read comic books or anything of the sort. She stepped away from the porthole as the others filedin, she smirked a bit at Tank's folding into his shell.

"Heh. Turtles." She said, about to hop down when Toby crashed. She chuckled to herself at his terrible stop and entry into the water. "I recken there's space 'nuff for the boards if you want them."

Target was hugging Sheffer's board, and whined loudly when she realized she'd have to part with it. "OR," She offered. "I can watch BOTH!"

OOC: I think we've stalled out a little, so I'm going to take the liberty of assuming everybody got on board (except Target, obviously), and move this thang forward.

---------

... *Ping.*

... *Ping.*

... *Ping.*

There was something soothing, almost drowsying about that dark, submerged chamber, with the gentle whir of the motors, the occasional hissing of the bubbles in the babbling water, the slow, soft, repeating "ping" of the sonar... Dr. Henshin had long since succumbed to the gentle bobbing of the vessel in the sea. Reclined in his cushy captain's chair with his head back and slouched over at an awkward angle, light, buzzy snores escaped his mouth every few seconds, then, with almost regular rhythm, ceased for many (potentially nerve-wracking, pulse-checking) seconds, before resuming with a loud snort, gasp, and apparently continued respiration.

It was fortunate that the vehicle was actually pretty user friendly. The old moth had done little more than sit Hoji down and tell him how to "make it go," but thankfully, the display in front of the heroic raccoon very clearly indicated a series of virtual "waypoint" markers directing the route to the destination, so there wasn't much guesswork involved.

The water outside was bright and blue. It wasn't a particularly deep section of the ocean. A large, dark silhouette, blurry and blobby through the distortion of the depths, had begun to form some distance ahead, and the markers indicated that they were closing in quickly on the target. It was an undersea base of some sort, and from the looks of things, a huge one, at that. They were certainly within range of the defenses of such a structure, but from the looks of things, there was no resistance... Close examination would reveal robots and submersibles of all kinds, shark-like, piranha-like, and just plain submarine-like, all floating aimlessly, completely inactive and unresponsive. A warship-sized submarine (or perhaps even a versatile airship of some sort) floated quietly, unmanned and unmoving. Torpedo launchers, standing tall on underwater towers and jutting from the rocky spires on the sea floor, didn't turn or respond to the group's presence. The entire facility lacked any signs of life whatsoever, save one thing: The lights were on in the main structure.

One more OOC note: You guys told me that you benefit greatly from having some kind of mental image to associate with things. Pictures of non-existent underwater bases are alarmingly hard to find. I think this is pretty awesomecore, though, so check it out. Click.

Sheffer had sat upon one of the chairs patiently through the whole trip. He'd taken back his board from Target before departure(after some effort, obviously), and it remained propped against the wall to his side the whole time. Due to the sub being spacious enough, he'd changed his mind on leaving the EX Gear behind, thinking it could possibly useful within the base. That is, if the place hadn't flooded. Good thing they had at least one person graced with gills.

As they neared the subterranean base, Sheffer stood to look at the monitors projecting the view from beyond the sub's walls. He instantly felt worried when he saw the numerous amount of robot nearby, but after closer inspection, sighed in relief. They appeared to be unmoving, and possibly deactivated. The large warship was also quite intimidating, but Sheffer only gave a small cringe at it, not out of fear, but just due to a reminder of what lay wrecked in Central City.

After noticing one last detail of the base, the hedgehog moved over to Dr. Henshin, nudging him in an attempt to wake him up.

"Hey, Doc, you sure this place is completely abandoned?" he asked, pointing to one of the screens. "Place still has some lights being powered."
