Dr. Henshin shot them out of a cannon.

Yeah, let's just get that out there in the open, right out of the gate. They came back a couple days later, Dr. Henshin took them through an underground and underwater tunnel, out into the harbor to some strange, floating platform, loaded them all into mysterious little windowed capsules, and proceeded to shoot them out of a giant railgun that accelerated the passengers with nearly organ-mashing force, propelled them literally outside of the atmosphere, and brought them back down on the other side of the planet.

He said this was cheaper than buying a jet.

He later corrected himself and admitted it wasn't cheaper, but it was a lot more interesting. He never told them what it was, though, and left it to them to figure it out after they had been fired across the globe.

Too bad the parachutes needed a little work.

It was with car-crash force that the group found themselves smashing down into a white, wintry wonderland as living crash test dummies. It'd be hard to tell where they even were at first, beyond the fact that there was snow everywhere, and more snow coming down from the sky. There was a pleasantly timed snowstorm, in fact. Furthermore, while most everyone hit a plush, cottony snowbank, not every member of the team was so fortunate.

One more thing to get out in the open: If something bad is going to happen to anyone by Dr. Henshin's fault, it's going to be Mako.

In fact, it just had to be Mako's capsule that bounced on impact, rolled uphill about half a kilometer, teetered at the edge of a cliff (with the window pointed straight down the drop), only to rock back and come rolling right back down the hill the way it came, past everyone else at high speed—probably right about when the rest of the crew would be steadying their spinning heads and stomachs and beginning to climb out of their terrorizing rides.

The hefty little capsule was going about 60MPH, too. Figuring out how to stop it could prove as interesting as the mystery. Or just wantonly painful, proving that fate hates Mako.

Jack normally felt a little bad when leaving her trusty deputy behind to go places. But after she was rocketed from a massive railgun, surfed over the plant then reentered and crashed into a snowy hillside, she couldn't be more happy that there wasn't a heavy robot flopping around inside the capsule with her. As it was Jack came to a stop shaking and rasping for breath, she had screamed for the entirety of the trip, and most of it was very unladylike things about Dr. Henshin. Oh how she hated that old moth. She kicked her capsules door open as other pods landed around her.

At least everyone seemed to have arrived. Until of course she realized one of the pods was having... difficulty. Jack hurried after the pod but she stumbled and tripped through the snow as she was very dizzy and everything still seemed to be spinning.

It was in the first few seconds after being fired into the air that Ember decided the old guy wasn't all that bad. At least if they were going to die it was in style.

Rattling around in the pod like a pea in a can the bird enjoyed her ride through the sky. True she was going to be covered in bruises and possibly a major headache when she was done. But still. Going out with style. Smashing into the winter wonderland that was their destination she took a moment to check her bearings. Still alive for sure and her backpack was still intact. Lucky too, that would have created a nice little fire if anything had exploded. Though the can of spray cheese was dented.

Pushing open the door she tumbled out onto the snow.

"Haaaohman. Let's do that again! Oh god I feel sick this is so awesome. I can't feel my face!", she slurred out as she stared above at the gray sky. More than a little dazed is what she was.

Pushing herself up from the freezing ground she watched another pod roll on by. The sight made her snicker a bit as she shakily stood.

"Ha! Lookit go! Wait that's probably bad."

If they listened closely, there was a faint, consistent screaming from inside the runaway pod.

Apparently, the travel pods were virtually soundproofed*, too!

Key was having decidedly different realizations than Ember.

Despite her love of heights, Key only loved them when she had gotten to said height on her own. In reality, even planes gave her a case of the chills. Being shot out of a canon with enough force to take her to the opposite side of the world? She would not be ashamed to admit she blacked out briefly.

Upon finally landing in the snow bank, a soft stream of curse words emanated from the normally terse koala. Shoving her pod open, she emerged into the cold as Mako's runaway pod careened by her. She watched it with a blank expression, before collapsing on the side of her pod. "'Least I didn't have the worst time of it," she muttered to herself dryly. More loudly, she asked, "Anyone gonna bother tryin' to save him?"

The gilded griffin grumbled at the Key's comments as she managed to stagger off the dizziness. Making her way back to her pod to retrieve her backpack.

"Any ideas would be great." She said in a tone that was nothing shy of irritated as she threw her pack on backwards (the bag itself hanging on her chest instead of her back) and took to the air after the capsule that was no doubt starting to look like a giant snowball.

She soared after the capsule struggling to catch up with it and eventually pass the big round ball. As she soared down the mountain side, she rummaged in her bag until she started to pull out some rope... lots of rope. Why does she have so much rope? Because she's a cowgirl, and rope was as trusted a tool for her as any six-shooter.

It might've been a bit worrisome at first, but Tank, one of the more staunch and stately members of the crew, seemed nowhere to be found. Not to say he wasn't there... in fact, he was probably the most there of anyone there.

Long story short, none of the others weighed two hundred and thirty-six kilograms, and so none of the others were instantly buried five feet deep in the snow upon landing. No, the snow itself did not climb to such levels on its own. But, with a mighty hand bursting forth from the ground below, Power Mask emerged, plucking himself out of the ground like a rooted tree, and pushing himself above the ground with but his hands. Of course, he swiftly ducked back in as soon as he saw Mako's pod barreling in his direction, but popped back out entirely once it had passed. He'd heard the screaming (however muffled) in his little rabbit hole, and of course, only one of them could scream like that.

"Mako."

Without a second thought, his mighty legs propelled him through the air on Jack's proverbial tale. With every apex of every mighty leap, Tank cupped his beak and shouted out his plan over the storm.

Woosh.

"SHERLIF"

Woosh.

"EEF HYEW CAN THRRLOW THE RRLOPE"

Woosh.

"HAYE CAN THEN CATCH EET"

The golden sheriff glanced down at tank as he hopped to speak with her, with nothing more then a nod of acknowledgment she finished tying the all important loop into the ridiculous amount of rope she felt compelled to keep with her for this outing. she let the end of the rope hang down from her as she flew up to the pod swinging her rope over her head.

Yes, she was about to lasso a runaway pod. With a quick glance to be sure tank had the end of the rope, Jack threw lasso down at her target and struggled to get it snagged with all the rolling the pod was doing. she yanked the rope and tightened the loop around the middle of the pod. She was successful! But the pods rolling motion was now coiling her rope around itself.

"NOW!" she yelled to the turtle at the end of the rope as she was forced to let go, Jack didn't want to get coiled into the pod along with her rope.

Tank flew.

There was an foot-sized indentation in the snow beneath him about a foot deep, and above, the shiny golden rope of life awaiting his grasp, quickly descending as he arose. He swatted his hands at the string like he was going to backhand it, but before gravity drew him back down, he had successfully caught the cord in his hearty grasp. He wrapped it around his wrist once or twice for leverage, and slammed back into the snowy ground.

It was almost in the same vein as a jet skier being propelled by a boat, except there was a strange capsule in place of the boat, the water was replaced by snow, and there were no skis to speak of whatsoever. But all the while, Tank was leaning back and digging his heels into the powder with a strained growl, quickly accumulating a sizable collection of the white stuff under his boots.

Slowly, oh so slowly, pulled back by the tortoise's bulk, the capsule skidded and slowed down. The rope began to fray, the strands unable to withstand the unbelievable strain of both Tank and the pod in either direction. After a moment, however, it seemed to pay off-- the shark container skidded to a gradual stop, digging into the snow and ice. The top (or, what would normally have been the side door) opened up, and out tumbled a very, very unhappy looking shark, who proceeded to belly-flop into the snow, his head still spinning something awful. He seemed to be muttering something through gritted teeth: "I hate the world and the feeling is mutual, I hate the world and the feeling is mutual, I hate the world and the feeling is mutual..."

One eye, though both were very, very wide, was twitching repeatedly. His jaw was clenched. His fingers dug into the snow below him, and it seemed that the bangs-like fins on his head were standing up rigid. After a few more repetitions of his little mantra, he remarked, slowly, as his jaw unclenched:
"I don't know how we're going to get back, but if that crazy old moth has anything to do with it, I'll just swim, thanks."

Jack sighed heavily and fluttered down to the ground, landing beside Mako. His little mantra was depressing to say the least, but it did seem the shark had the sort of bad luck that legend was made of.

"I reckon I'd rather swim back myself." She agreed with the shark. "Hopefully once we work out what's goin' on here, we wont be in need'ah his help gettin' home."

The delights of the snowy wilderness--cold, and wet, and windy, and... cold. With some more cold. Their little pod race had taken them quickly down out of the mountains to lower altitudes where powder-dusted pines and barren, leafless oaks flecked the rolling hillsides. Snow sprinkled down only lightly here, and the blanket their feet crunched into was not as thick as where they started out. Nonetheless, it was frigid and cloudy, and would likely drive their desire to find shelter.

Fortunately, there seemed to be some sign of life not too far away--Just farther down the hill, through the haze of snowfall, there were some very thin pillars of smoke, as if from fireplaces, or ovens, or something similar. Searching for their source, the group would soon find that a seaside town was not far.

It was a small, quaint village. Tall, skinny homes and businesses with steep roofs lined cobblestone streets (which seemed to have been kept clean of snow), dotting a slope that led up to a majestic little peak rising out over the ocean, crested by an equally quaint manor. A car, boxy, foreign, and a little ugly looking, could be seen puttering its way out of town, but otherwise, there didn't seem to be much traffic.

If one watched where the car drove to, though, they could also make out another locale, not much farther away at all: a much larger city. It wasn't like Grand Metropolis or Spring City or anything else they may have been used to in any way. The buildings were all much shorter and more drab, with architecture that was less about mirrored glass and concrete, and more about arches, pillars, and points, stately gothic and old-worldly. And, though it wasn't directly on the ocean, it still seemed to be a big port town, with a huge river running right up its center, and many ships bobbing in the water--most all conspicuously docked.

It would seem they had at least a couple options in deciding where to begin their investigation--or, rather, begin their survival. The investigation could probably wait until they had some of their basic needs met. For once, they were in a place where the Doc couldn't deliver his incessant instructions and advice, so they could take things at their own pace.

Key sighed upon seeing the shark emerge... more or less unscathed. She hadn't meant to insult the sheriff with her comment; she wasn't sure if it was possible to rescue the runaway pod. "Well, color me surprised..." She shrugged, impressed, as she watched the rescue mission. Jogging to catch up with them, she nodded. "I'm... not doing that again," she agreed, shuddering.

The shudder turned into a shiver, and it was only then that Key realized just how cold she was. Unable to stop her hands from shaking, she shoved them up the opposite sleeves to create a poor man's muff, then looked from her companions to their nearby survival choices. "Hey," she managed through chattering teeth, "let's head for warmth, maybe? Whichever's closer's my vote."

"And maybe I can find a snowsuit to buy... my everything is numb..."

With the wild thrill of their travel choice faded away the bird felt the bitter cold bite at her. Pulling her thin jacket tight around her she nodded in agreement with Key.

"Hopefully the old geezer was smart enough to target the right place. My feathers are freezing off."

Spying the thin curling smoke rising into the stormy sky she cracked a grin. Maybe they wouldn't die a cold death. That would be a horrible way to kick the bucket. Boring it was.

"Hey-o! Smoke ahead! Where there's smoke-well you know the rest."

Ember started trudging off towards the sight. Soon the shape of the town started to take shape in her gaze and it only streghtened her resolve to get down there. She swore her beak was starting to freeze shut.

Jack looked at the others offering a hand to help Mako out of the cold cold snow. She had been slow to appreciated the weather given the mini crisis but now its frigid glory was at the front of her mind.

"Ugh. What I'd do fer a sled." Said lightheartedly as she motioned towards the smaller of the two towns. "Lets get a move on."

With there destination chosen the group was left with little option but to trudge down the snowy hillside towards the quaint town. Jack wasn't a fan of cities in the first place and found the smaller village more appealing, oh and closer! That was the best part. She lead the charge down from the snowy hill side. It wasn't going to be a long walk but the cold was going to make it an uncomfortable one.
