Sonic Spindash RP is closed.

Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.

It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

This thread continues directly from Chapter 4: Day 4, Pt. II. No time has been skipped. This thread's opening post will be identical to all other alternate ending threads save for the final paragraph.

The threads will be left unnamed save for the sorting information. If you would like to name your thread, you can talk to anyone with mod powers.

Just post as normal, and this NPC account will be there with you, replying to you, including handling the computer's responses.

The command center looked like a warzone. A big section of floor was charred, warped and sagging, as if partially turned to slag. Smoke was billowing up through the glowing, yellow, cylinder-shaped isolation field, which flickered occasionally, but dutifully hummed along, doing its job for at least a little while longer.

Ugly as it was, living bodies rained off the tower-like command center platform, propelled out of the isolation field by the blast. They plummeted to the distant metal floor below. Seven's bomb in that comparatively small area was overkill, no question. The power was so much that even his own cover didn't protect him fully; the black-clad troublemaker lay under a bent, shredded, fully-blown-out computer terminal, which appeared to have been torn out of the floor and knocked over atop him, partially pinning him down.

Seven sat up tenderly, clutching at an arm, grimacing, and looking entirely worse for wear in every possible way. He nonetheless lifted the console enough to pull his leg out from under it, rolled over face-down, and pushed himself up onto his knees with considerable effort. He appeared to be experiencing some mix of pain and satisfaction, and coughed every time he started to laugh, and winced behind his grins.

"... Biometric analysis interface ready," said the computer's voice. The system was somehow still operable. A probe-like structure with a single, glassy-looking lens on the underside extended from the distant ceiling above, and began projecting a circle of blue, grid-lined light that encompassed the command chair and a space of twenty-five feet around it on all sides. "Please approach the center of the platform."

Except for the purple-haired boy on the floor, there wasn't a soul in sight; the deck looked completely clear. But above, something stirred; Rock clung with all four limbs plus his tail to the supports and wiry guts of the scanning apparatus high above, out of the blast range. The white primate had taken more than his share of knocks already, but the explosion wasn't one of them. Using the warp belt, he had shot straight up to the ceiling and averted the crisis almost entirely. With Seven stirring below, though, it was time to get back down there and finish what had been started.

Rock swung once, back then forward, then released and plummeted. The pants and tied-off sleeves of his baggy, dark red jumpsuit flapped noisily in the wind, while the floor seemed to race toward him at a suicidal speed.

*PANG.*

He slammed the steel floor feet-first and tumbled forward a single, thudding roll, grenades and equipment on his belt clanking and clattering. The landing wasn't any kind of cinema-worthy action roll, but more a sloppy means of bleeding off the momentum of his thirty-story drop. He stood, steadied himself, and, with his bearing on Seven's location reestablished, took off like at him like some kind of predator, accelerating almost entirely to his top speed in a few heavy, boot-pounding strides.

I guess you could call this a... DID collab?

Seven jumped upright and ready only to fall backward and start scrambling in reverse, away from Rock with a genuinely spooked look on his face. One hand clutched his stomach while the other drew the machinepistol hanging from his thigh holster and leveled it at him

He squeezed the trigger. The muzzle flashed and flared as a volley of pistol rounds were blurted out in fully-automatic fire.

It was too late by then. The weapon discharged futilely into the air as Seven fell back, rammed straight to the ground in a high-speed tackle. The two combatants skidded and rolled a good twenty feet, swooshing, squeaking, thudding and scuffing before Rock lost his grip and each spun free of the other.

Seven, disarmed, pushed himself up with renewed urgency.

Rock was already on him again, hurling a heavy-handed right cross. Seven shielded himself with his forearms and staggered back under the sheer force of the blow. In survival-driven rage, he freed his knife from its sheathe and lunged straight back at Rock with an unintelligible shout, head down, trying to tackle and stab him; the considerably heavier primate simply caught him and shoved him back. The knife had struck Rock's abdomen and made a messy, bleeding mark, but his face was frozen and frigid, and he didn't visibly react to it.

An ugly-looking chain of events followed.

Rock stepped forward and clapped both palms at the sides of Seven's head with titanic force; a crisp, leathery, bony "pow" echoed across the platform, and a worse one through the boy's brain. Reflexively, Seven wilted and buckled forward, clutching his ears while his knife clattered to the floor.

Rock grabbed the boy by the hair of the head and drove him face-down into a rising knee; with that same leg, he propelled a huge boot sideways at Seven's lower body with such power that it knocked his legs straight out from under him, stretched him out parallel with the floor in midair, and —

BANG.

Rock slammed him face down into the steel deck with both hands.

... BANG.

He pulled Seven up a little, and did it again.

Three such repetitive slams later, the white primate picked the boy up slowly to full, standing height by his hair. Seven looked at Rock vacantly and palmed at his face as if trying to push him away, all while utterly lacking the strength to manage it. Rock turned his own face away and ignored it, pulled him in close almost as if in some sort of strange embrace, and wrapped one hand around the back of the human's head, and cupped the other under his chin.

Crick.

Snap.

Crunch.

Seven dropped to the floor, his head facing backward off his shoulders, and eyes and mouth agape, but motionless.

Rock looked looked down at him for perhaps some scant two or three seconds, blank, neither pleased nor perturbed, as the trickle of red from his abdomen darkened the waist of his already-similarly-colored trousers. It seemed he only stared at the mangled remains to ascertain that Seven was in fact dead. The battered primate then turned and swaggered away toward the blue ring of light, where the computer awaited.

There was a palpably tense silence in the aftermath of the brutal confrontation. Jam had uselessly been among the first to recover from the explosion, thanks to her shield; she'd merely tumbled down a couple flights of stairs, but was back on her feet, and at the barrier's edge in no time. The sight that greeted her wasn't pretty. She watched Seven's passably barbaric demise with the same sort of stone-faced resolve one may have watched a public hanging with in days long past, visibly wincing at the visceral sound of snapping bone. She was, perhaps, not as at ease with it as Rock, but had no delusions about whether or not it was necessary. It was with that thought that a tired-sounding sigh escaped her lips, and she threw an anxious look over her shoulder. ...It was unlikely that any of the heroes would see it so objectively.

For the moment, all she could do was wait.

Thap.

Thap.

Thap.

Not far behind, came the heavy footsteps of soles and soul worn to almost nothing. Ace marched with a decided deliberateness for someone so wounded and tired-looking. Scuffs, scratches, and even burns galore were tied together by the smeared stains of blood on his forehead and arm(s). He made no sounds beyond his footsteps and the weighted breaths that carried them, and only if Jam were to glance in his direction would he return the favor-- only to turn his gaze back to the main event. He knew there was no fight anymore. It was already over. Eventually, he stood right next to her, on the outside looking in.

The telltale sign of pain-- beyond the obvious, his clenching of his side-- was there. But it was the events inside the bubble that gave him his silently dismayed stare. His brows furrowed gingerly and his teeth were grit behind his mouth, but he had nothing to say.

Rock's footsteps carried him gravely to the platform's center.

There was something unsettling hanging in the air, looming over that moment of death and strife. A boy who was nothing but selfish and evil had just breathed his last, and perhaps the universe truly was better for it. But now, who remained? Could any good come of it? More than a soldier, an executioner now stood before an empty throne, the likes of which could have the power to shake the firmament of the world itself; to draw and dissolve political boundaries; to give rise to peace, or to silence dissent.

Rock stopped in in the middle of the circle as the sensor-equipped structure finished lowering from the ceiling and hovered directly over him.

"... Biometric analysis complete."

Rock turned, stepped back, and sat in the seat with a sigh—the kind of sigh one might puff out after a hard day of pulling weeds or working in the shop.

His mismatched eyes traveled upward along the full height of the flickering, fading isolation field.

"Computer," he said with curiosity in his tone.

"Yes, Dr. Eggman?" replied the computer.

"... Don't call me that."

"Yes, sir. By which name should you be addressed?"

"'Sir' works fine for now," he replied plainly. "Can you tell me the status of the isolation field?"

"Isolation field integrity is at approximately 15%. Failure is imminent. Reason: power available is insufficient and will be routed away to vital systems as needs arise."

Rock sighed again. He drummed his leather-bound fingers and gazed wearily toward where Ace and Jam presently stood. He had to have known that any minute there would likely be a displeased horde coming behind them, ready to try to take another piece out of him.

"What's wrong with the power supply?" he asked with an exasperated tone that implied he didn't really want to know.

A volumetric display appeared front of him with a virtually unreadable print-out and utterly complex diagnostic.

"I don't know what this is supposed to mean," Rock sputtered his admission with a flopping flail of one hand on the armrest, displeased.

"Reactor core temperature is rising and will soon reach critical levels," said the computer. "Reactor control rods are being manually removed and should be replaced immediately."

"... Show me the security CCTV feeds for the reactor core," ordered Rock with a scowl creeping onto his face and into his tone.

The volumetric display showed a grainy-looking array of live video feeds of an immense reactor core, laden with complex machinery. In the midst of it all was none other than Dr. Eggman in a full radiation suit, yanking things out of the core. Some of the cameras began moving to follow him; he noticed it, turned, bent over, and fanned his butt at them, then sprinted out of the frame, and out of the room.

"..."

Rock's face relaxed to a deadened stare that, non-verbally, said, well screw me. He scratched slowly and deliberately at his neck two or three times and thought deeply.

"Send security in the reactor core area to capture the intruder," he ordered, "and send maintenance units to replace the rods."

"Error," said the computer. "Reactor maintenance and supervision systems have been compromised and cannot function."

Rock's lips pulled tight and he blinked twice, heavily, either impressed, irritated, or both.

"Then, for now, send every available unit here to defend me, mark that red-colored female primate as an ally," he pointed, "and identify all other intruders as hostile if they display aggression." His tone remained all business even as he called down an army of robots to confront his former allies.

"Understood, sir."

The isolation field soon fizzled away.

Jam shifted restlessly on her feet, still staring straight ahead at the newly crowned Dr. Eggman beyond the frail barrier keeping them at bay. Her eyes tightened as she drew a heavy breath in through her nose.

"I'm really tired," sighed the reddish girl, without looking at the yellow cat she addressed. "So I'm hoping when this dam breaks, you and your high-horse posse aren't gonna start any more s**t. There's no point, now; it's over."

With a single, almost punctuating blink, she spared a glance out of the corners of her eyes, and gravely, she asked, "You understand that, don't you?"

Somewhere in the midst of Rock's system maintenance wizardry, Ace found the time... and miraculously, the will of effort, to turn himself around and strain himself into a somewhat-casual seated position on the step just below Jam. With short breaths and a decidedly long sigh, the alleycat reached into his jacket's pocket, and plucked out... a carton of cigarettes. What else? The ol' campsite didn't have the luxury of safety matches either, so after presenting one from a different pocket, he simply struck it against his own tattered jeans. At long last, after all that, he took a drag and blew out a puff of smoke, further contaminating the air surrounding them.

It might've seemed like he trying to look cool and aloof in his moment of defeat, or maybe just ignoring her out of spite. But his stern, thoughtful expression, and eventual answer said it all: he was deciding how to answer.

"...I'm not that smart," he said finally. Contrawise to Jam, Ace stared in the opposite direction-- away from their new king. "And you oughta know it's never over anyway."

His cig-holding hand rested on his knee. "If Rock can really pull off being a benevolent world leader... or, Hell, even if he just tries to. Then, great. I got no reason to fight. Me an' Caz can find some quiet little corner and just, try to live our lives. You get to say 'I told you so' and I'll leave you be." Another drag. It was hard to tell whether it was the smoking that put the croak in his voice, or something else. "But if I even hear a rumor that that's not the case, I'll be the first one there at the revolutionary sign-ups."

And that seemed to be all he had to say on the matter.

With Jam's foresight about Ace's backup already being slightly delayed, the green, quilled figure that was Geoff was suddenly there, bounding up the steps three at a time.

He only came to a grinding halt upon his arrival, however.

Blue eyes flitted to the sitting cat, hearing the last bits of conversation being made. They then darted to Jam before looking on past her, noting who now sat in the grand throne of sorts... only for his attention to be gained by the one unmoving figure in the entire scene.

All aggression that had been evident upon his arrival instantly vanished as he traveled those last few steps up, barely acknowledging the serval or monkey as he brushed past. He finally halted as he reached the peak, staring down upon the still form of Seven that lay several yards ahead. A silence seemed to infect him as inspected with a heavy stare, lacking any sort of remorse but still filled with a sense of conclusiveness. He glanced, but only briefly, to Rock before he took a retreating step back, shoulders sagging as if suddenly relieved of a great tension.

Turning around to put his back to the disheartening scene, a deep frown engraved on his lips, he looked to Jam.

"I'm done. I've had enough of... all of this." All his previous perseverance against her and her white partner had vanished, perhaps evaporated from the sight of the new power holder and his victim. Now, he just seemed tired. "Can't change things now, anyhow. I don't know what intentions he has, but..." A single sigh escaped him as he glanced back. "Hopefully he won't wipe out what the world used to be. Wasn't perfect, but hell, it was better than this."

And with that, he slumped right on down next to Ace, seeming content to just lean back and examine the Earth, the moon, and all the stars above.

He had no wings to fly with, no sheilds or armor to protect himself with, or any sort of dense layer of skin to lessen the impact he suffered. The earlier explosion sent the lightweight ferret rocketing out of the force feild, adding a short smoke trail to show where he flew. Hitting the ground all the way at the the bottom floor, close enough to Big's previous fall, his body went sort of limp. His numb leg suffered no serious loss, but his hurt arm went completely numb, apparently anticipating the shock and simply giving out on him.

Coughing up a good amount of blood, Desmond shakingly lifted up his head, and for a few seconds, examined his newly red painted jacket before his neck gave out. "Ha...," he chuckled as his mind started to go blank, "Mom's going to be pissed at me." Closing his eyes, he imagined his mother scowling him, lab coat and everything just howling up a storm for a simple jacket stain. Smiling, he began to let his mind wander onto other things he felt were important, which is when something shortly came into mind, seemingly forcing him into action (sort of).

"E...Ember?" he gasped as his voice broke into a rasphy call, possibly too low to hear or just completly incoherent, considering he probably sounded like a broken squeak toy. He honestly wasn't expecting anyone to answer back, as he didn't call out for anyone else afterwards. Futily attempting to heave himself up, a tingly sensation traveled down the unparalyzed parts of body as his supposed working limbs suffered the same fate and failed to respond.

His emptying mind settled on an expecting thought; "Never thought it would go down like this." The idea rolled around in a creative fashion, decorating his opinion on his final moments with either heavy, painful gunfire or a simple deadly injection that would put him to sleep permenantly. Finding the ideas a bit humorous, he chuckled inwardly, "Guess beggars can't be choosers."

His breath went a very slow pace. With any luck he would fade out quickly.

A repulsed sneer curled at corners of the monkey's mouth as her jaw lowered to speak. As she bored her unimpressive glare into the back of Ace's skull, though, she shook her head.

"Whatever," huffed Jam, glancing back to the now absent field. "Glad you and Rock went through so much together; really helped you figure out his true evil ambitions. We'll keep the f**k away from you and your girlfriend, as soon's we get her out of the safehouse we left her in."

She practically lunged off toward the console, muttering mutinously about "fair-weather friends" and where they could put their "flimsy-ass faith." Her movements jerky, her balled fists trembling, and flaring arcs of electricity danced involuntarily up and down her arms.

It was probably a good thing Ace wasn't taking another drag when Jam spoke, because he probably would've inhaled the whole cancer stick without even realizing it. As it was, he simply sat there, motionless, much in a manner to his cigarette; it burned, but never seemed to ash.

When she hopped off, though, that was quick to change. While the rest of his body simply tensed up, his spare hand formed into a fist, pressed firmly against his shut-tight eyes and sunken brow. The hybrid's teeth stopped grinding just long enough for him to mutter a single, aching: "...Damn it."

Collab with Darren.

And so it went, with not entirely friendly talk on the stairs, supplemented by some quiet stargazing, some... bleeding out (in Desmond's unfortunate case, as no one had yet noticed him down there), and a backdrop of distant technical jargon flying back and forth between computer and operator.

"Scram the reactor with whatever rods are left and turn the turbines back on."

"This action could cause damage to the electric generator. All remaining control rods have already been inserted."

"Do it anyway. Then get the comm array fully online again, connect to the network, and open all ports to six-eight, dot, three-eight, dot, one-two-eight, dot ..."

Basically, they were all sitting in a giant spacecraft, with a giant nuclear reactor ready to blow, and they had someone they already didn't trust there to work on it. Perhaps it was more a matter that his motives were distrusted rather than his proficiency; after all, survival was a goal Rock and everyone else shared an equal stake in right then.

There wasn't much for anyone to take note of until the computer's speech was suddenly replaced with heavily-synthesized, more masculine voice. It responded within moments of the request, albeit a bit more monotone than usual. Rock had managed to reach the intended contact... or at least a subsystem of said contact.

"Communications request received." There was momentary pause before prior to the voice speaking again.

"Adjusting for signal delay in link. One moment."

Another brief delay, this time several seconds longer before the voice spoke again, with combined overall delay spanning roughly less than half a minute.
Rock tapped his fingers anxiously.

"Communications up-link established." The tone in next response was considerably less 'automated phone operator' than the previous. "Unidentified contact, state the nature of this comm inquiry."

"Tau, it's Rock," he blurted hastily. "We're in the destroyer — all according to plan, but the Eggman's taken the control rods out of the reactor. I can't physically get there in time to replace'em. Any ideas?"

"Assessing available infrastructure information. One moment."

Much to Rock's dismay, there was yet another few moments of silence as the A.I. initiated its search of the unfamiliar systems of the massive vessel. Regardless of the unfamiliarity of its systems and the vessel's size, it had only taken a few short moments for the A.I. to collect enough information to formulate several possible courses of action.

"Attempting to make use of several salvageable autonomous units in the vicinity of the reactor to initiate replacement of control rods. You will be notified should this option fail." There was a slight pause before the A.I. continued as it proceeded to initiate control of the required systems.

"Shutting down primary engines; preparing to reroute coolant and processed liquids from the wastewater system to reactor. Rerouting preparation complete; on standby until control rod replacement complete. "

"Rerouting available power to critical systems. Preparing to shut down non-critical ship systems. State any non critical systems you wish to keep online now."

As Tau waited for a reply from the simian the autonomous units previously mentioned activated under Tau's control and attempted undergo their assigned tasks. The autonomous units themselves were little more than an assortment of various robots that had been left in the vicinity in various states of disrepair, some in decent condition, some barely in functional condition. Regardless of missing parts spanning from an eye, limb, or in some cases a head, they proved operational enough in their zombie like states to be capable of performing the required tasks.

Rock had sat there for the duration, looking varying shades of worried, then impressed, then anxious, then impressed again. When addressed, though, he was caught a little off his guard.

"Uhh," he blurted, looking up with his mouth hanging open a second. Quickly, he replied, "Communications, any emergency equipment and lighting, anything you think is important, aaannnd..."

He gripped his armrest as he thought intently. ... He glanced to the side and bit his lip, then raised a single finger.

"... Can we still pipe in some music?"
