Ace's eyes went to the hand on his shoulder, and then trailed it as the owner walked away with an ambiguous, yet visibly comradely expression. For some reason, Jam had an aura about her (not to be confused with an EM field) seemingly more difficult to penetrate than the other primate's, so it was a strange satisfaction that came about when it seemed like he might finally be past it.

He too unbuckled himself, but didn't seem like he was following the scouting crew either. The deep breath he gave after he'd removed his own helmet might've proven the cat still worn from the atmospheric entry, and maybe even the ghost ship excursion not two hours ago... and maybe the whole space ordeal as a whole. This was a long time to go without so much as a text from his one and only.

Even so, he still found the strength to sit himself up, and carry his person to where the others seemed to be congregating.

"Hey uh, Rock," he butted in, concerned, but about as sheepishly as he ever had. "You doin' okay man? Not drugged outta your mind yet?"

Rock looked at Ace, stared at him blankly for several seconds straight after his query, as if in another world, then flashed an off-kilter-looking thumbs up in a reaction that was far, far too delayed for a pilot upon whom their lives depended.

And then he grinned. Apparently, his sense of humor was still intact.

"What, you think I ain't good to fly?" asked the monkey in mock hostility.

With Juke joining them and Ace remaining aboard, it looked like the Scouting crew was complete. Any more than that, and they might be pushing it for the sake of scouting, anyways.

He looked at Juke with a shrug, "Hey, maybe the air's breathable, too..." He said, but didn't go to remove his helmet. It was part of his persona, after all.

"Let's go check out that signal..." He finally said and headed over that way, trying to make note of any cover along the way that they could use. Like bushes, or trees.

The serval answered Rock's mock hostility with more mock defense. He shot his palms up at either side, waving them both in . "Oh, nonono no, no, no... Yes."

"Kinda," he admitted, scratching at the back of his neck. "You're prolly the best chance we got either way, but. Just wanna know you won't get too happy with the peelz. You are the designated driver."

Despite the raccoon's statement, Geoff kept his own helmet on firmly. This really wasn't time to take risks, seeing how he never got the memo whether the air here was actually safe and breathable.

Either way, he kept step with Hoji, constantly throwing glances back to make sure Juke wasn't stumbling around too much. The light on the horizon was starting to grow brighter, signalling that it was in fact early morning on the planet, the sky becoming a brighter orange. At least they wouldn't need to traverse in the dark.

Eventually, the trio crested the ridge and began a descent towards the direction of the flare. The intended direction of their goal led them down a steep path into a deep ravine. Down below lay a series of scattered trees and smaller vegetation, bordering what appeared to be a small stream winding its way through the shallow portion of earth. Large outcroppings of rock dotted the area as well, some hidden within the trees.

By the time they reached the line of tall trunks (without any conflict, thankfully), Geoff began looking around wildly, catching a glimpse of the fading smoke trail in the sky.

"I'm not seein' anything particularly capable of flare-launching around here..." he muttered over the radio, stepping forward to go deeper into the treeline, starting to approach the stream within it.

"Trust me when I say you like his flying better with the pills than without."

It seemed no sooner had Rock granted permission to approach the helm than there was the walking electrical hazard, herself, helmet (and gum) discarded just as quickly as she'd been able to. One could only wonder where the latter had been left.

She grinned knowingly as she passed the serval, then sauntered up to Badge's former seat with a lazy gait, and dropped promptly into it with a little half twirl.

"No tellin' how long they'll be out..." mused the monkey idly with a frown and a conspicuous and aptly-timed rumbling of her belly.

"Maybe we could see without jars on our heads," garbled Juke lowly as he jogged (kind of gawkily) ahead and went tromping and slogging through the stream, picking up the pace in proportion with his growing impatience. "I dunno how Wild Badge does it all the time. Must be a really nice helmet..."

Rock found himself distracted by the voices of the scout team coming through the console. He dipped and shook his head, and commented, "I just can't believe Juke is here," massaging his nose bridge with brows raised way up, but eyelids half shut. "I mean, how'd that fool even get here? Serious."

Before anyone could have the chance to reply to Juke's complaining, a new figure suddenly appeared right before the bat, emerging from the trees.

It was a human male. There was no doubt about it.

The group found themselves abruptly under the gaze of a pair of grayish eyes, the man standing on higher ground on the opposite side of the stream. An impressive short-cut beard was gracing his jaw and chin, all of his hair black with seemingly new streaks of grey. The clothes he wore appeared to be a faded uniform of some sort of military acquaintance, although edited some for the sake of more comfort. And to top off the whole scene was a rifle, resting in his hands in a neutral position, the barrel pointed to the ground.

There was a long silence, the man simply staring down at Juke for a moment.

"...son, I don't know who goes around wearing shades under a helmet, but I can proclaim you the first to do so."

His eyes rose then, darting between the others there.

"Speaking of which, you all look like you dressed for the wrong venue. Take those things off. The air's breathable, and I'm curious to see what new faces I have around now."

Wild Badge had to hold back the urge to gush at just how nice his helmet actually was, wanting to keep the chatter to a minimum in case they actually did have an emergency. Didn't want Rock and company to miss that, if it came up under all the complaining.

But then an unfamiliar voice came from behind and Badge swung around to face it. Human. Well, he spoke their language, at least. That was a good sign. Right? Well, either way, he wasn't entirely ready to shed his skin yet.

"I'm Wild Badge. Who're you?"

Juke stopped short. A human.

Despite the discovery, he, much like Badge, did not seem immediately willing to take his helmet off. The man's tone rubbed him wrong; he didn't react the way a sane stranded man should have reacted to the arrival of help. So, robbed of the opportunity to justify his shades, he only mumbled "I'm photosensitive" under his breath and crossed his arms.

... For about five seconds. He then remembered that he was, in fact, quite tired of wearing the helmet, and went about the task of taking it off. (No need to cut off his nose to spite his face, after all. Fresh air sounded great.)

Geoff found himself initially frozen at the man's appearance. His foot dangled over the stream, prepared to wade through it just as Juke had done, but he paused now as he looked up at the stranger standing upon the incline that was the other shore. This was unexpected.

It could be guessed that it had never occurred to the hedgehog that there would a familiar sort of form of life here, being on a foreign planet and all. But now, here they were, facing a human in the middle of unknown territory.

Eventually, he too removed his helmet, his quills splaying out behind his head as they were released. The air was fresh here, maybe even richer than that of their own planet. Guess he managed to discover one bonus of this strange (and probably hostile) place.

He remained silent for the moment, believing that Badge's question would answer his own curious thoughts, especially why this man's face rang such a large bell...

The man may or may not have thrown a questionable stare in Badge's direction upon the announcement of his name, but only appeared to shrug it off a moment later.

He just went straight to answering the raccoon's question.

"Captain Erik Basch... although I think that title is a bit pointless these days."

"Whoa, wait," intruded Goeff before the man could continue. "I knew you looked familiar... but... you're that guy from that video, aren't you?" He jerked a thumb skyward. "Ya know, on one of the ships."

"Ah, so you saw that, did you? Not one of my grander moments, I'd say," he replied, his voice a bit gruff. He obviously was not too fond of the memory or the event in general.

"Anyways, its not everyday some group of people come down planet side. I'm not going to question how you managed to get here from Earth in the first place, seeing how there's already been too many similar incidents up there. But, I'm curious to know how you survived whatever barrage that thing sent your way."

"That was a curious turn of events."

Wild Badge interjected as he looked down at his belt, pushing a button that caused a flash of light that engulfed the raccoon. Once it dissipated, he was in his civvies. The khaki brown jacket, t-shirt, and jeans. He took a deep breath, taking in the air. As used to breathing through a helmet was to him, nothing really substitutes for good ol' fashioned, unaltered air.

"I guess they got bored... But they did manage to get quite a number of others in their raid. That's why we're here -- to get them back. I don't suppose you know where they would have taken them." He said, setting a hand on his hip as he asked.

Ace gave a humored, if incredulous glance at Rock's mention of Juke's being found in space. "You know that guy?" he asked, unable to hide a chuckle bouncing beneath his words. "He's a trip, man, furreal. I s--"

"...Hold up...?"

Something seemed to have caught his eye, but for once, it was his ears that drew him to a situation. He pulled himself closer to the console, where if nothing else, Juke's helmet still broadcasted the scout team's conversation. "They aren't talking to themselves anymore," he noted. And after a few more seconds of close listening and brow furrowing, he noted further: "It's the... guy from the ship. They're talkin' to the ghost ship's captain. He's still alive...?"

Jam stifled a groan as the conversation shifted to Juke's presence, and she shifted in her seat, very pointedly looking away from the cat and the other monkey. There was clearly much she could have said in response to Ace's incredulity at their acquaintance, yet she didn't get a chance to bring up their decidedly colorful history with the bat before the discussions (both theirs and the ground team's) took a turn for the weird.

"If that's actually him," frowned the punch-hued primate dubiously. "From what you said, what happened up there ain't s**t people just walk away from, especially given the state of his crew."
