Updates Sonic Spindash RP is closed.Founded 05/25/2002 by three friends; ended 09/19/2012.
It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

Rock flatly answered for them, "No." He clipped his own ID back on. "Like I already said: they're entering on my authorization. These are agents Crawford, Bostwick, and Hawkins, and you can run their names by the DoD on your own time. We're on a schedule."

"I'm sorry, sir," began the guard, tersely, "I can't—"
"Oh, stop it," Rouge snapped. She walked up to the guard and stared up at him.
"You know who we are, and you know we're scheduled to be here. No-one goes in or out of here without a log sheet and a signed order from the day clerk. You," she pointed accusingly at the guard sitting at the computer terminal, "I bet you're looking at it right now. You're just delaying us to be stubborn. I'm a government agent, and I could report any one of you personally to the president, so let us in right now."
The man looked down at her woodenly, peering over the edge of his bullet-proof vest to look down at the tiny, scolding bat. After a few moments where he locked iron gazes with her, he looked away. He glanced up at one of the cameras that were recessed around the walls of the room, and then resignedly stepped aside. He gestured to the inside of the sally port, with its air-lock configuration of doors.
"Right this way."

Without another word, or look, or even the faintest acknowledgment of any kind to the security personnel, Rock strode forward into the lock.
With everyone inside, the door slid shut with all the subtlety of a slow-moving car crash. Four heavy bolts clunked and thunked into place and whirred as they spun and latched, and did whatever other fiddly things giant super-max security doors did to satisfy the condition of locked like a tomb.
The lights immediately turned red.
"Authorization failure," said a synthesized female voice. "The number of persons in the lock does not match registration records. Lockdown initiated. Please stand by for further instruction from security personnel."
They were locked in a twelve foot metal box. Outside, the officer smiled for the first time since they arrived.
The primate, though shaken into looking at his environment in bewilderment for a few seconds, ultimately seemed unfazed. He stepped up to a pedestal that stood freely out of the floor off to the side of the second door. It prominently displayed a console with a screen, keypad, and card reader. He pulled his ID off again and swiped it through, then punched a sequence of numbers into the keypad.
"Identification confirmed," said the computer. "Sp-E1 clearance confirmed."
The officer's heart shrank a couple sizes smaller, along with his choked throat and beaded eyes. A volumetric display meanwhile appeared in midair above the keypad. It was a full 3D map of the complex.
Rock casually reached up, spun the model with a hand gesture, found their present location, and poked a couple glowing red icons next to the chamber.
"This area is locked down. Reason: Negative identification."
"Override," ordered Rock plainly.
"Sp-E1 clearance confirmed," it repeated a second time. Without further ado, the lights returned to normal and the door ahead unlatched and slid open. And with that, they were finally free to proceed.

The pinkest member of their pretend squad of military personnel became progressively less at ease with the increasing security. The palpable tension was mildly unsettling; the way gun muzzles seemed drawn to the group as though magnetized was disconcerting, and Rock's impassive dismissal of their bureaucratic obstructions (though undeniably cool,) didn't manage assuage her jitters. Further exacerbating Jam's anxiety was their sudden lock-down in an impromptu twelve-foot cell filled with incriminating red light, yielding a terrified start and tiny squeak, (likely hurting their cover, if anyone noticed).
When the lights returned to normal, and the heavy metal roadblock before them slid open, she still looked about as mobile as a stone sculpture, with a facial expression befitting one fashioned by Medusa. It seemed to take her a few seconds to realize she could walk again...

Sheffer was quick to feel the rising panic within his chest as the lights glowed red and the locks gave their resounding noises, biting his lip as he began to realize their situation. He calmed himself, though. He wasn't a criminal. There was no reason for him to be trapped within there... but still, that guard hadn't been too joyous of their entry.
However, he watched Rock give his quick words, and viola, they were free to continue forward. The hedgehog gave a quiet sigh of a relief, moving towards the newly opened door, pausing to cross his arms and glance to the white primate out of the corner of his eye, appearing a bit impressed.
"Guess you have more authority here then I thought," he muttered.

Rock glanced at Sheffer. At only the most barely audible level, as he scratched his nose (surreptitiously to cover his mouth), he muttered, "More than I thought, too."
The hallway beyond the door was of steel from floor to ceiling. Pipes and conduits ran overhead and along high parts of the walls, among only "sufficient" lighting. It was fluorescent lit, but only enough to give everything a kind of harsh, unwelcoming look, while still somehow being dim.
There were no guards or anyone else yet. The moderately long hall sloped downward with no branching corridors or rooms. It opened up into a sort of junction room, however, with a higher ceiling, and open spaces. To the left, a corridor to some other part of the facility; to the right, the same, but larger, presumably to accommodate vehicles. Straight ahead, the floor ended with a nearly-sheer drop off what might as well have been an artificial cliff made of steel. The bottom could not be seen; the drop was a very steep slope down into darkness. A waist-high (for them, neck-high) railing protected would-be lemmings from any missteps, though one section was open, allowing access to a huge, square elevator platform.
GUN Mono Beetles hovered in the corners of the chamber, watching the group's movements intently. GUN Hunters stood inactive along the walls, guns and riot shields in-hand. Shipping containers were stacked in some areas, most of them with G.U.N. stencils.
Rock moved past it all and boarded the elevator platform. Once the others joined him, he swiped his ID on the control console and pressed the button. Safety rails popped up out of the floor (to keep any hypothetical individuals above from falling down while the platform was away), and the elevator started noisily down into the dull abyss. The roar of the elevator motor was loud enough that Rock was comfortable speaking.
"Everybody just... stay cool," he advised as best he could (although his expression betrayed how ineffectual he must have felt it was). "Rekk knows we're here, everything's documented—they know better than to try to make us disappear. It'd be treason."

The hedgehog gripped one of the safety rails tightly, trying not to glance over to the black abyss below them.
"Yeah, sure, because it isn't like the government, of all things, could claim anything as an accident..."
His sarcasm covered his deep worrying that what he mentioned could become a cruel reality, nervously watching themselves sink lower away from the light.

It wasn't until the entirety of their party had boarded their lift, and began the noisy descent that Jam felt comfortable -- at Rock's precedent -- enough to visibly deflate. Her knees buckled under her as though she suddenly recalled that her legs were made of gelatin, and a shaky sigh left her in a few panicky breaths.
Shifting uncomfortably and throwing a strained glance to the whiter primate, the redder responded in a tone full of uncertainty that tried desperately to be confidence, "Well... we're just gonna have to try not t'give 'em a reason to."

Ace was... remarkably quiet, and relatively level-headed through the entirety of the session, even offering little more than a 'Nice' at Rock's handling of the miniature red alert. Still, overhearing the others' thoughts on the facility, the government, the situation as a whole, he couldn't help but lean over the railing, look down below and wonder aloud...
"Yeah," he mentioned flatly, and scowled at nothing underneath him. "Unless they're the ones looking for it. Remind me how much I hate dealing with GUN."

"'Least you could say you already know what to suspect," muttered Sheffer. "I, on the other hand, am just learning the joys of this organization..."
He sighed, still feeling as if he were on the verge of walking into a inescapable cell. The lift was going down quite a ways, and just getting into the place had been a challenge within itself. If one thing went south, whether it'd be their own fault or purposefully brought upon them, there would be no escape from the facility. Once again, he tried to remind himself that they were simply here by the permission of some higher-up the other three happened to know, but the uneasy feeling in his gut wouldn't vanish.
Glancing upward to the square of light that they'd departed from, it dawned on him they were utterly alone on the lift. He glanced around, trying to map out the walls on their every side, searching for some hinting of cameras or other equipment. Seeing nothing, his hand suddenly dove into a side pocket on the military-style pants, and with his greatest attempt in being subtle, he flicked the switch on the device he'd just pulled out, keeping it close to him as if trying to hide it from undesirable eyes.
Sheffer then paid close attention to the small screen built into the device, searching for activity.

As the elevator neared the bottom of its grinding path, Rouge the Bat dropped down onto the surface of the platform, frowning sourly back up at a golden Mono Beetle, which drifted very gently back and forth some ways up the shaft.
"I will never understand what…" She muttered, then trailed off. She faced up to the door.
"So," she said, bringing her amused smile to bear on her face, "time to visit our bomber."
Then, quietly, right at Sheff's shoulder: "What's that you've got there?"

The device whirred then hummed and began to vibrate. It then rocked a thudding jolt through Sheffer's hand.
The lights nearby flickered and the elevator platform jerked before continuing on its way down. The sensor Dr. Henshin had prepared worked differently than any previous sensor, using a radar-like pulse of radiation. Unfortunately, to be functional this meant it had to be powerful. This kind of "blasting energy everywhere in hopes of getting a ping back" approach meant it was extremely obvious. Mono Beetles immediately started descending into the shaft from above, hovering all around and examining the group and the surrounding area. No action was yet being taken, however.
As for the readout: Currently muddled and useless because they were in an elevator shaft with solid steel backed by bajillions of tons of dirt on all sides. Maybe later.

Rock, with eyes wide, pupils beady, and mouth pulled into a tight, monkey-fang-bearing frown of horror, looked at Sheffer as if the hedgehog had just taken a dump on the president's desk.
He did not say anything because he couldn't afford to in front of the drones.

It was maybe a mere second that was actually taken for the radar to be promptly flicked back off and stored into his pocket, mainly from twitch reaction and a dreading fear of what he had just done. His hands gripped the steel of the safety bars quite hard now, not sparing a glance to the circling drones, his body tense. The hedgehog tried to control his breathing, to calm himself... and to stop yelling inwardly for performing such an idiot move.
The bat would remain ignored for the moment being, his eyes focused on a distance piece of steel wall.

Apparently, the period of inactivity and lack of further disruption or damage of any kind was good enough for the drones, which backed off after hovering right around everyone for a good fifteen seconds. They still stayed within view, but not... getting up in everyone's business, as it was.
The elevator reached the bottom, and its front rail retracted into the floor. (Possibly the one Sheff was grasping, if fate had not yet been cruel enough to him.)
