Edit: Please click to see disclaimer below
The disasters depicted in this thread were plotted out well before the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan. The selection of a Tokyo Tower lookalike for part of the scene-setting was an unfortunate coincidence. This in no way tries to make light of or dramatize any of the real-life events that occurred, nor was it inspired by them in any way whatsoever. Again, I must emphasize, this is an unfortunate coincidence, and not intentional.

Please enjoy.

Beyond where the last strip of casinos faded into cheap motels and restaurants; out to where the roads were narrow and the sidewalks ended; where the earth began to slope skyward and conifers dotted the foothills, a huge steel tower rose above all other buildings—even just a little above the huge skyscrapers of distant Grand Metropolis. The orange and white structure seemed to stand proudly behind a small village of cottages and cabins, overlooking what would have been a fantastic view of the city and sea were it not for incessantly-pouring rain. Directly under the tower was a flat, open-air concrete lot. The distinctive orange glow of outdoor sodium-vapor lamps lit up what looked like a pleasant little touristy place, with park benches, vendor stands, decorative planters, and other such things, all surrounding a central elevator that led up to the tower's observation deck. It was getting pretty late, so everything was empty and closed, and besides the blinking safety light at the very top, only a few dim fluorescents were on up in the tower itself. The entire area was silent, and looked devoid of any life or activity.

For scene-setting simplicity's sake, we looked for a real-life tower to use. The vote we received was for Tokyo Tower, so Tokyo Tower it is.

So, if you want to see what the structure itself looks like, open up Flickr or Google Images and put in Tokyo Tower. Just understand that the surrounding area is different in this scene, and is in a more rural, hillside/foothills area rather than the middle of a city. Also, remember that it is nighttime.

It was admittedly a bit of a walk there (or run, as Rock had so insisted), but it was nothing Ace couldn't handle. By the time the tower had peeked its head over the horizon, he seemed content to let Rock take the lead while he ran alongside Caz, who, perhaps surprisingly, managed to keep up well with the others. She might not have been the track and field star say, Jam might have been, but a healthy jog see could handle. She was more than happy to slow down a bit once they neared the ground elevator, though.

"Ow. Ow my back."

So with a "hynnnnyyrrg" and several spinal pops, the mole was back and ready for action... or, whatever action she could provide in the situation. She still didn't know quite what.

Tank, whose forte was undoubtedly not sprinting, had... somehow summoned the aid of his previously unseen, patented Power Cycle, and offered his trainee Mako a ride in the sidecar (not shown).

Rock's heavy boots clomped, and his heavy-gloved hands swung, while heavy breaths puffed out his mouth and nose. Yes, he felt heavy, if that much wasn't clear. However, the excitement of reaching the end of their ordeal pushed him along ever faster, until pain felt numb and tiredness null. The adrenaline was starting to kick in; the closer they got, the more into it and alert he became.

His eyes darted rapidly as he trotted to a slow in front of the tower. Everyone was anxious to go in—to get to the elevator, go up, and find the kid—but something snagged his vision, and before anyone could set foot anywhere to near to the area under the structure's base, he flung out an open hand in a "stop" signal, and stared up at the lowest arching beam of the tower overhead.

With the rain and the low lighting, it was too dark to actually see what it was Rock was looking at. However, there was dark clutter in the lattices of steel that didn't look like it was supposed to be there, on much closer examination.

They wouldn't have to squint for long. With a loud clunk, the exterior lights running all up and around the tower's metal skeleton flared up, bathing everything in a warm, yellowish-orange glow. Overhead, in the arch between the two nearest legs of the tower were a ton of silhouettes crouching and hanging in the beams. Dead center was the most recognizable of them all: the only one wearing a sweatshirt and a smarmy smile.

Seven sat there oh-so casually, one foot planted on the beam with his hand on his knee, the other leg dangling freely. He was far, far above—just the way he liked to be.

"You guys are pretty dumb to come here," he called down. "I mean, did you really think I'd call you out like this if I didn't already have everything figured out?"

Just to aid the mental positioning process, see the below picture. They're sitting in that lowest, nearest, arching beam.

Wild Badge came to a sliding halt at the handlebars of his trusty motorcycle Wild Machine just on the side of the road not too far from the tower that served as some kind of beacon in the city, taller than most of the buildings in the city.

He dismounted, and headed toward the tower, not far from the others when the annoying sound that was Seven's voice called down to them.

"Plan all you like. You won't escape justice forever!"

"I can't, believe, I just did that." Mako was... not expecting to ride there in a sidecar. It was nought if not a foreign experience. He stood up, and lost his balance, flumping dramatically onto the ground. He would have complained straightaway-- if Rock hadn't indicated who was present, and his attentions were diverted.

"I thiiiiink," he said slowly, his eyes scanning the far-too-many figures as he pushed himself back up to his feet, "we maaaay be screwed."

Only moments after Rock had motioned to Seven and his posse and the lights were thrown on, Rodolf came to a stop. "Not yet," Rodolf regarded the shark as he skidded to a stop. The unicorn had worn one singular expression, a scowl of determination and distaste, the entire way; it only seemed to deepen as he laid eyes on the boy, and his body tensed visibly. It was clear that it took all of his self-restraint not to lunge and start making his way up immediately; he didn't know much, but he could surmise simply by the circumstances that it would be a poor idea.

His tail flicked once or twice, and he tossed his head.

"So is there a plan?" he said gruffly, looking out of the corner of his eye at Rock.

Sheffer had kept pace with Rock all the way to the tower, breathing deeply from the long jog, but still overall in good shape for the moment being. It hadn't been too hard to keep up with Ace's speed at first. Of course, he was quick to notice their antagonist up upon the beams, just like everyone else would, and his face turned into one of disgust... but also a grin of confidence and determination spread across his lips.

He was ready for a fight.

"Ya know, Seven, you've tried a lot of things on us. The attempted drowning, the lightning thing, the gas... But the thing is... we keep comin' back. Maybe you should just call it quits before you fail again?"

Once their destination had come into view, Jam poured on the speed for the home stretch, but reeled herself back in, allowing Rock to be the first to set foot on the scene. By the time his arm was out, she was already firmly rooted on the ground, and leery of potential welcome wagons.

When their adversarial mob made its presence known amid a blinding array of floodlights, the pinkest member of the impromptu posse merely guised her squinting as a surly glare. The corners of her lips pulled steeply downward, and for a moment, she was so lost in her overwhelming desire to maim, that she could have sworn she felt sparks fly, lightning ring or no lightning ring.

She had nothing to say to Seven, but took a bold, foolish step forward, only to be suddenly be yanked from her furious stupor by Sheff's unexpected rebuttal. One could almost watch the anger fizzle out of her focus, leaving a look of furrow-browed confusion and mild discomfort upon her no-longer upturned countenance. With poor regard for subtlety, the punch-hued primate, edged a few steps away from the hedgehog, unnecessarily scratching the side of her face with a solitary cough and an inaudibly mumbled, "He... uh, doesn't represent us."

Off to a good start, already, it would seem.

While Sheffer yelled back and made a slightly awkward heroic scene (and probably did Badge and Tank proud in the process), Rock calmly stepped to the side and took off his duffel. He'd already strapped his holster and pistol on his belt; the bag remained dead weight. He calmly began twisting its strap around a nearby bike rack while answering Rodolf.

"I think we're past plans," he stated flat and candidly. Apparently a man of few words, he had nothing else to say on the matter as he plodded approximately back to where he was.

Coming in last of the group was Ember as she sauntered up. Craning her neck back she looked over the tower and gave a low whistle. "Dang that's tall."

Stretching out her arms she chuckled at Rock's comfirmation of the lack of plans. "Well we're here. Who wants to take the frist shot?"

"I'm already sick a' this guy," Ace mumbled to nobody in particular.

Tank, of course, was already far more into the drama than a good number of people on the scene. Likewise to Badge, he had disembarked from the seat of his ride and gazed above to Seven and his cronies as if he were the one standing a hundred feet above ground. "Thees gaem ees ovar, chaiyuld!" he declared. "Sorrlendor ees hyour only opshon!

When it became apparent how long of a run it was going to be Jack had taken to flying instead. Even in flight the faster of their party members beat her there. She soured down and landed with a slight jog before stopping near the front of the group. She stared up at Seven as the lights turn on, Removing her gun from her holster she checked the chamber and snapped it shut looking again up at him.

Tank offered the boy his last chance to surrender before things got messy, the sheriff was left with nothing more to add. She'd happily read the boy his rights once he and his floppy sidekicks where no longer a potential threat.

The pink robot arrived without any of the discomfort or panting that would be call for with such a run. being a robot had its benefits.

"This is gonna be exciting!" Target promised Ember as she opened the chamber to her arm, showing the six grenades of some sort loaded inside, then shut it. If she had a mouth it'd be a fair assumption she'd be smiling.

After giving A moment or two for Tanks offer to stand, but probably not actually long enough for the boy to consider and accept surrender, Target took the first few steps forward. Boldly stepping to the front of the group, raised her arm and fired.

FWOOOP

It soured high into the air and came within a couple feet of the structure before it unceremoniously exploded in a big eruption of fire and molten iron. Which happily splashed up into the structure and on anyone unlucky enough to want set on fire and severely burned. It also of course piddled down below into the area directly underneath where none of the party had yet ventured (good thing too). Apparently Target saw fit to carry insindary granades, the question now was who gave them to her.

Shortly after the explosion, there was a quiet slap of Jack's head meeting her palm in wordless dismay.

There were so many people shouting threats at Seven that it filled him with some sort of perverse satisfaction, like it was inflating his importance with every gibe. "Track record speaks for itself, morons," he replied, yelling back down to the others. "The only ground you've ever gained is when I'm not around. Wherever I'm at—"

There went the grenade. It arced speedily at the tower... and simply stopped in midair. Seven's electric field had surged to life with a trick that Jam had never learned with her ring.

"—theeerrre you fail!"

The twirling, hovering projectile burst directly between the group and the tower and rained an impassable field of white-hot burning thermite on the ground. The only options were to wait, go way around, or way, way over it.

Seven snapped his fingers, and most (but not all) of his freaky-looking troops boldly took the hundred-or-so-foot drop to the ground. Notably, they seemed mostly unarmed, saved for an occasional one wielding its rifle here or there. Maybe some had used up their ammunition raiding Vince's. (Or, judging by the occasional troop clutching its gun more like a baseball bat than a firearm, some of the swaying, mindless troops had no comprehension of guns at all.) Regardless, they began to fan out, moving erratically as always, and prepared to fight.

Seven meanwhile stayed where he was for the moment, looking as unconcerned, reclined, and relaxed as possible. It very nearly looked like one of his troops should have been feeding him grapes.

It was difficult for her annoyance with her mouthier ... allies to be exacerbated any further once Seven had the floor once again. Much as she patently hated to admit it, and would never say aloud, he was right. Perhaps that was the cause for Jam's sudden increase in visible bitterness, her lips pulling apart at the corners in a seldom seen sneer, while her brows continued to close in on her eyes. Then again, maybe it was that the kid had been in possession of her ring all of... what, a few days, a week, tops, and was already schooling her on the contents of its bag of tricks. The salt in the wound seemed more than her fragile psyche could cope with, self-preservation be damned.

The moment the haughty human sent his dogs out to play, Jam rushed forward to meet them, shooting in a wide arc around the fiery backlash Target's haphazard attempt to help. Fractions of a second before she'd have collided with the first to cross her path, she instead kicked hard off the ground, vaulting straight over it, firing a vindictive back kick at its six. Despite success or failure, her eyes and efforts wouldn't leave her quarry until it ceased to move.

Whether or not his words may have been a bit too heroic for the moment, Target's grenade was somewhat of an overkill for an introduction, but there was nothing to be done about that. Instead, the hedgehog launched himself forward... right through the fiery results of the explosive from the before. He was, of course, covered in a familiar sheet of rock as he ran through the flames, emerging onto the other side within seconds...

...only to be met by one of the soldiers.

Without a bit of hesitation, Sheffer reached out, not in a punch, but a firm grasp of the thing's oblong head, crystal-fingers gripping tight as he promptly slammed the soldier's cranium into the ground. If the attack had caused a good result or not, the hedgehog continued off silently and quickly, waiting for another aggressor to approach.
