Sheffer first gave a shrug to the monkey's statement.

"Honestly, I don't care if my crew or yours gets the emerald. Either way, bet the Sheriff would be happy enough knowing the kid didn't manage to snatch another one."

He paused for a moment, considering what to say next. The hedgehog kept expecting the three to dismiss him, to not be willing to accept his assistance, but he continued anyway.

"Also, I'm sick of just sitting on my ass between matches hoping one of us will manage to win this thing. The Sheriff and the rest are on their own mission, so I'm going to take my own approach, and if that involves tracking down the kid and stopping his next plans, or even that business with the bomber, I'm all in for that. With you, or with them."

Rock watched Sheffer as he listened, thoughtful, but chary.

"Alright, well, we'll do what we're able for now," he answered. "I'll see what my friend can do about getting us in for some info, you see what yours can do about emerald radars, and we'll talk again when we know something."

He turned and headed to those glass doors again, finally to open them. As he went, he added, "You can call us at room 428."

Sheffer gave a curt nod. "Can do. Hopefully the ol' doc can throw something together for us."

And, with much discussion now behind them, the hedgehog finally headed back into the hotel, off to see the wizard of science once more.

And with their big happy powwow at an apparent end, the serval gave a nod, tranquil, but uneasy. He buried his hands in his pockets.

"Well, I've had enough suspicion and intrigue for one day," he stated, and started his walk back to their home base. "Let's call it a night."

"Heard that," sighed Jam as though she'd spent a good chunk of her day being put through her paces by a possibly senile rooster. As she fell in line before Ace, but after the other monkey, she cast a wary look back to the bright lights, and recalled with mild trepidation, "You gotta fight that ...friggin'... rhino in a bear suit tomorrow."

With a sudden spring in her step, the pinker primate twirled gracefully as she passed Rock, firing a playful jab into his left shoulder, as she said almost in lament, "I guess you better actually get some decent sleep tonight."

Rock watched her closely as he walked, first discerning, then entertained. A smirky grin took over in an all-too-transparent way (failing utterly to consider that Ace was being subjected to their conversation).

"I can sleep in," he replied in a low rasp.
