He let out a quiet growl.
Though he had said little apart from rambunctious laughter during his walk to the ring, Mr. Bopper seemed to recognize the potential insult that Rock was giving him, staring at his rippling pectorals rather than his eyes. So before they were motioned to their corners, the big bad grizzly bear actually squatted a little as the rules were read, his eyes unblinking and irritated in that same empty void of a scowl that suddenly seemed glued to his face.
They were close enough to smell eachother's breath, but fortunately for Rock, all the grizzly gave him was a quick snort from his nose. In his blank, baby-blue eyes... he was mocking him.
So when he stood in his corner, he did so hotly, arms crossed, looking not unlike a child that had been denied a candy bar on a trip to the supermarket.

"I t'ink not, kid," came the rooster's nonchalant reply. He didn't seem to think much of the massive grizzly, for Mack's usual sneer registered just a little more hateful than usual when his beady little eyes swept into the opposition's corner.
"Now, this' important, Rock, y'listenin'? Don't go toe t'toe wit' dis dinosaur, unnerstand? He'll cause ya a variety of damage; jus' keep light on dem twinkle toes a yers, and see if y'can't tired th' schmuck out. Got me? Nod y'head yes."
Mack clapped a feathered hand against his fighter's shoulder with no shortage of gusto.
"An' kid," he growled. "Good luck."

Rock grunted in some kind of affirmation, lowered his head, and...
*DING.*
It was on. Worryingly unafraid, Rock practically charged out of his corner with a stomp, heading briskly right into Flex's range. He was carrying himself a lot differently, though; whereas he had fought his previous two bouts with his feet anchored, only lifting them as was necessary to walk through punches and hit people, he was light on them this time, shuffling and bobbing with an out-fighter's "dance" in his step.
Mack had insisted Rock go into the fight with an entirely different approach, focused on speed and agility, and he trained hard to learn it and use it. It was time to see if it paid off.

"UUUURRAAUUH. HA HA HA."
The very instant the bell opened the match, Flex stomped his foot down and exploded into the center of the stage with force that shook the ring itself. His bulky arms didn't linger at his sides in the particular muscle head fashion, either, but clenched together at his jaw, his back arced like a bridge. For a moment or two, he danced from side to side himself (at least from the waist up), but it seemed more out of simple impatience than any strategic element.
It may have been predictable, but after a few seconds of watching the monkey worm around, Flex was insistent he be the first to attack. A quick, but beastly little cross was delivered to the monkey's eyes without another word.

Whiff.
In a curious inversion of expected styling, Rock was the one who didn't have his gloves up. When the punch came, he just slipped out of its way as if it was a lightly-lobbed dodgeball, his fists dangling at his sides.
While Flex seemed to be saving his full firepower and trying the waters with a small, quick punch, it looked like Rock was instead trying his luck. For that one, the next one, and probably many more, the primate deftly swerved or back-stepped out of the way, while circling his opponent in a spry trot.
"Tha' much reach an' you ca't hit crap?" slurred Rock through his obstructive mouthguard, pitching his head back and beckoning more punches with a c'mon, hit me wave. "Story of you' life, right? You got three more free swings b'fo' I start knockin' th'fat off y'ass."

Any hint of a smile disintegrated when Rock opened his mouth. Granted, the grizzly's mouth seemed always to be open, always showing his teeth. Now it was just in a frown. Flex didn't seem yet cognitive of the fact that it was probably part of his plan, but he was eager enough to keep punching. Perhaps even too eager, taking a page from the monkey's own book, and throwing a mighty straight before he could even finish his threat. (Somewhere around 'knocking'.)
"SHUT UP. SQUARE."

Whiff again. Were Flex the counting type, it might have been easier to predict when Rock was actually going to counterattack. Being that this was clearly not the case, it might have come as a surprise when, on the bear's third impending punch, the simian acted true to his word and slipped the punch to the outside—way outside, ducking under the bear's extended arm clear to his side like a flash—and popped up with a close, fast, hooking, rising body shot.
It wasn't yet the lopsided match Flex's last one was, but it had a lot of time left to go that way. With that much power in play, disaster was just a mistake away.

"Ah, you DICK."
Wump went fist on ribs. Truth be told, Flex's entire upper body was too covered in muscle and fur for him to even flinch, but he was already clearly irritated with the squirmy little weasel. As the monster-bear wheeled around to face him again, you could almost see him ready his mighty paws for a backhand, but just as easily see him (begrudgingly) shift his arms back into a more typical stance. Fighting with rules was not something that came easily for him. His beady eyes trailed the primate as he plotted his next move.
They had a long fight on their hands...

(Three way collab)
Not one to pause when an opening was... well, open, Rock bored in with a drilling assault. It wasn't the hardest he had to offer, but that was an intentional gauge of effort. Anything too hard might have committed too much force. He had to be ready to abort and get out of the way of swinging pendulum-fists of death at any second.
Either as a result of Rock's reflexes and tenacity or Mack's method, the first round ended in a completely raw deal for Flex. Though the monkey didn't rack up enough individual knockout-power-punches to put any serious hurt on, the round ended with over fifty blows landed for Rock... and an unprecedented zero for Flex. Not even a jab connected.
Round 2 came and went. Punches: A whopping 84 landed by Rock; goose-egg for Flex. Was the bear's mounting anger working to the primate's advantage? Maybe.
Round 3, 122 punches registered from Rock; zero from Flex. It was starting to look less like a fight and more like a heavy bag session, to the point where the audience's cheers were fading and being replaced by cringes and murmurs, and even some mixed jeers and cheers for Flex, who, against all odds, was suddenly the underdog.
"I don't get why this guy's still movin'," admitted Rock to his corner, in a voice that lacked breath. Sweat mixed with water from a cornerman's squirt-bottle and rolled down his face while he sat on his stool during the brief gap before the fourth round.
"Aah, what does it mattoir?" replied Mack passively, shaking his head while expediently dabbing excess moisture away from the monkey's face. "Some people just got no whaddaya-call-it, no sense of self preservation."
"All the same, it ain't yours yet, kid, s'don't get cocky," warned the rooster through a focused sneer as he refreshed the petroleum jelly under Rock's eyes. "Y'put on a good massacoi so far, but I seen fights go bad later than this, so stay on guard, and stay light, got me?"
With alarmingly good depth perception for his age, he rammed his charge's mouth guard back into place in one clean swipe. He smacked the ends of Rock's gloves, and, just in time to be drowned out by the commencement of round four, said, "Give 'im hell, Rock."
By this time, the grizzly was too busy dripping with anger to even consider that Rock might even be getting pooped-- to say nothing of the beatings and bruises his sides had received. He was built Ford Tough for sure, but very few people could withstand the everlasting beating the monkey had given and stay in tip-top condition.
His ribs were aching, and even the act of breathing was starting to sting, but if there was one thing keeping the grizzly on his feet, it was the sheer rage built up with every blow received, or the fact that he simply refused to let himself drop until his opponent got his dues. His fingers were so tightly clenched, he may as well have had medicine balls for hands-- so it was no surprise how eagerly he waited for the next chance to get even and then some.
And with that began round four. Rock left his corner, slightly recovered, but nowhere near 100% again. Untouched or not, throw that many punches in that little time, and those gloves start to feel mighty heavy. Regardless, the primate pushed through the fatigue, locked on to his target again, and started closing in, looking as predatory as ever—albeit without the spring in his step.

The instant the bell rang, that was Flex's cue to come out guns a-blazing. And while he didn't go charging in like the start of the first round, you could tell there was still a fire in his eyes. With a mighty, underhanded swing, up went the gloves to his jawline once more. His body might have started to sway if he had let it-- but instead, he started immediately with sideways swipe at Rock's face.

Foof.
Air. Again. It had to have been maddening; every time Flex took a swing, he got nothing except punishment in the form of a counterpunch. That big, hooking swipe? Rock bobbed and weaved under it with a hook to the body as he went. Crosses? Sidestep and hook. Jabs? Duck and lunge to the outside, straight to body. It wasn't a pattern so much as it was a precise science of movements that relied on reading every little telegraphed motion and reacting with blinding speed.
Tired as he was, he was keeping it up, if only because Flex had stayed... predictable. If Rock finished that round like he did the previous three, and didn't let himself get knocked down or out in the remaining two, he was a shoo-in for the win. It'd be a rare thing if it truly turned out to be that easy, though.

"hmmreunghhurF#&K!"
It was only until the very instant that Rock's counterblow landed that something happened in Flex's mind. It wasn't even the pain of a fist in his side. It was simple prediction. This round started off the same as every other for the last three rounds.
"F#&@CK!"
That meant it'd keep going the same, and that meant it would END the same! This damnable monkey floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee for until the rest of the round, dodging avoiding attacks like a tax evader and rubbing it in his face every time and he just couldn't stand for that.
"AAAAAAAHHSHHHEEEEYAAAAAUUUHHHT"
His composure was a glass house-- and somebody just threw a Rock at it.
Flex snapped. Gone were the preconceived notions of formal boxing, or even formal punch throwing. His arms became a whirling dervish, a berserker barrage of fists and sweat and anger as he spewed obscenities the modern world had never known.
"LIBERTYDICKINGHEARKENSHITTER--" Two hooks and an uppercut.
"--WHORESLIDINGFORKSHINING--" Hook, uppercut, straight.
"--CHICKENSHITbull%#*$MYASSENAAAUUUHHH????--" It just didn't stop.

Pow.
Rock's eyes had gone a little wide at the nigh-audible snap that occurred in Flex's brain. He was rushed back as if by a stampede of wildebeest—except the wildebeest were in fact beings of pure fist, cussing, and rage.
Caught off his guard, he backed into the ropes by accident, and took the first of several direct hits. Spit flew, he staggered halfway across the ring along the ropes, just in time to get nailed again. It was hard to tell if his constant retreat along the ropes was deliberate, or if it was just the force of the punches knocking him along, but within that single fit of rage, there finally came a solid cross that pounded his head straight back. The force of the blow seemed to revolve around his head as, in the inevitable super-slow-motion replay later to come on TV, his right ear flipped back, the hair of the back of his head moved in a wave toward the other side, his left ear flipped forward, and his jaw on that side wavered and rippled.
He hit the canvas in a skid on his hip and right elbow. The ref immediately got in the way (or tried his damnedest to at the very least), but before he could count, the simian scrambled awkwardly back to his feet and staggered into the ropes back-first with a bounce. He looked stunned and a little disoriented.
"You good?!" shouted the ref in Rock's face.
It took him a couple seconds to digest the question, and determine which of the two swirling referees he should direct his answer to. "—Yeah-yeah, m'good," he slurred through his mouthguard, gloves raised.
"Fight!"
The ref stepped back. The crowd was going bonkers. The commentators were abuzz at their microphones.
"... the first recorded knockdown Rock Lochert has suffered in his boxing career, and it looks like he's shaken from it! We've officially got a fight, ladies and gentlemen..."

His teeth bared like a whinnying horse, the force of rage that Flex had become was barely contained by the actions of a ref, keeping (relative) distance to his fallen foe, but worming and squirming around in place, twitching and jerking, like a thunderstorm in a snowglobe. Quietly swearing to himself.
"ANG-NA SHART F**K NAGNDA STEEEAK AAAHHH."
And sure enough, the moment Rock got back on his feet, the grizzly was on him like a hurricane, nearly shoving the ref aside with his own bulk. Monkey man was tired. He was tired too. But one of them had a head start. Just as Rock was getting his bearings (ha, bearings) straight, Flex held his fist beside his head, and stared at it in some kind of crazed bloodlust.
"MMYYYYYY--"
He swung.
"BITCH" Swing.
"MAH" Swing.
"BITCH" Swing.
"MAH" Swing.
"BITCH" Swing.
And so on.

"—And Lochert is in full tactical retreat—"
That was as much of an absolutely accurate statement as was possible from the TV commentator. Rock fled backwards, hit the ropes back-first, bounced off, and just narrowly passed under a fist. As he stutter-stepped away and turned, he found more fists flying at him, and no longer had the balance to avoid them; no more than seconds after he'd fallen the first time, he fell a second, not from the pain, or stun, or impact, but just the sheer act of being bulldozed to the point where he tripped over his own feet. (The "getting punched" part didn't help, mind you.) In doing so, he rolled under the bottom rope and nearly fell out of the ring.
Again, he scrambled back up with no delay, but that was twice down in one round. The ref got in the way again, and pointed Flex emphatically (or maybe aggressively would be a better word) toward a neutral corner.
"Get in the corner this time! Get in the corner, or I dock you!" he threatened.
