Sheffer only gave a slight nod and amused grin, not wanting to bother with attempt with giving coherent words through the mouth guard currently stuffed in his mouth. With the tapping of gloves done with, he retreated to his own corner, eying his opponent from that distance. He had a few inches on the hare, but he quickly came to the conclusion height wasn't much of an advantage in this sport. In fact, he felt slightly intimidated by the other man's buffer build.
This is going to be tougher then the last one... Mighty fine mustache he's got, though, he thought quietly to himself.
Then, suddenly, the bell, and with a simple roll of his shoulders, the hedgehog stepped forward towards the center of the ring, gloves at ready, knees bent just slightly to put him at level with his opponent. He waited to see the rabbit's first move.

The jackrabbit pitted his fists together upon the ringing of the bell, and moved forward slightly, keeping a bit of a back-and-forth bounce to his idle position. As he drew closer to the hedgehog, Basil kept his fists raised in a defensive stance, keeping a sharp eye upon his opponent.
Wasting no time, the jackrabbit weaved to the right, and then, as he ducked quickly to the left, Jacques lowered his defense for the split second necessary to bring his fist around in a swift left hook, the detective aiming to knock the blow across the hedgehog's side, making sure to keep the strike above his opponent's midriff. Whether he landed the blow or not, Jacques backed off to resume his defensive stance, before lunging forward to push his strength into a straight cross punch for the hedgehog's chin.

The rabbit's maneuvers caught Sheffer off guard at first, feeling the first punch connect with his side with a solid contact, wincing lightly. With the hare backing off for a short second, the hedgehog took his chance to take in the situation, trying to read the rabbit's movements.
Suddenly, his opponent lurched forward, something the hedgehog nearly expected, and out of reaction, he tilted his upper body to the left, narrowly avoiding the incoming punch, feeling a small breeze from its closeness. Biting down onto his mouth guard, he countered quickly with his own straight punch, ignoring the rabbit's fist, that is, if it still happened to be over his shoulder, his red glove aiming for a new opening on the hare's upper body.
With successful contact or not, he immediately darted to the left, attempting to circle around the rabbit, his already bending body assisting with the quick movement. It was now his turn to throw a left hook towards the other man's head, his other arm staying up in defense in case for his opponent's own retaliation.

Jacques grunted as the first retaliation met his chest with a bit o' vigor, and the rabbit immediately brought up his defensive fists once again as he stumbled back. As Sheff made his attempt to circle around the detective, the jackrabbit heeded what was about to occur next, and ducked fast to avoid the strike. Unless the hedgehog was just as quick to defend himself, he would find yet another swift hook rounding a blow to his right side, the rabbit wasting no time with his movements.

Having been a bit too confident with his second throw of the fist, the hedgehog soon felt the impact on his side, his own grunt now leaving his lips as he stumbled to the side, his raised arm having been to high to block the blow.
Taking a step back to avoid another punch, he faced his opponent once more, fists at ready, knees bent, head bowed just slightly, his eyes carefully examining the opposing boxer. His feet were light on the floor when he gave a quick juke left, then right, then left again, trying to throw the rabbit off as his left glove came swinging around in another hook. To top it all off, and in hopes of the rabbit being focused on his left fist, his right came straight forward, almost seeming to aim directly at the bushy mustache upon the hare's face.

The detective watched the hedgehog's movements, and furrowed his brow. Smart lad, ducking and weaving about like that. Of course, as his opponent drew closer, the rabbit began to back off, readily awaiting the moment that Sheff would try to strike. He deftly managed to defend himself from the oncoming hook, although that straight punch managed to catch him right in the side of the face. A minor amount of spittle flew from his lips as he spun slightly with the force of the strike... however, the detective simply followed through with the momentum of Sheff's blow, and planted his foot firmly onto the mat as he completed the fast 360° turn, the jackrabbit focusing most of his strength into a straightforward cross punch, that, should the hedgehog have been caught off-guard, would land square in the jaw -- assuming he had still been unprotected from the former maneuver.

Proud with his success of getting a major hit on the rabbit, he did not expect him to come back at full force with such haste, only capable of bending his body back just slightly as the punch connected with his face head on. His head snapped back, and he gave a groan, stumbling back a few feet. Sheffer was quickly shaking his head then, regaining his composure, his face pounding from the punch.
"Alright, ol' chap," he spat through the mouth guard, more annoyed from his own mistake then actually angered at the rabbit. "Good shot... but I'd believe we're only starting."
Whether or not the rabbit actually heard him (the guard behind his lips muffled any speech, plus the cheering crowd mixed in as well to form a din of noise), Sheffer shuffled forward in a defensive position, seeming more determined then before.
Soon followed a series of quick jabs, one two three, each aiming at different portions of the rabbit's body, trying to find an opening as he weaved around his opponent. The first came in high, once again aiming for the rabbit's head, but with the quick assumption that the rabbit would only duck once again, he gave a strong upper cut followed by another quick jab, trying to get a solid hit.

As the rabbit prepared for another bout, there almost appeared to be a twinkle in the detective's eye... The action... The excitement... The thrill of the -hunt- (or, y'know, something kinda like it)... Jacques was just beginning to warm up, that much was clear. The hairs of the mustache twitched, and as the hedgehog came forward, the detective tensed and readied himself for the attack.
As the first jab flew in, Jacques huffed as he quick-stepped to the right, attempting to peg the side of Sheff's face with a solid One-Two jab while his focus was still on the offense, followed by yet another direct cross to the jaw.

Sheffer grunted as he watched the rabbit smoothly avoid his first punch, and lacking other options, simply raised his gloves in defense as the other aimed for his head. Feeling the punches be blocked by his weighty gloves, he took a quick hop back, putting him out of range of the rabbit as he began to circle him slowly, weighing his options on how to approach next.
At this point, the hedgehog couldn't help but show a grin. He was enjoying the competition the rabbit was bringing; not too easy to take down, and not extremely tough either.
Need to end this quick, though, before he gets the upper hand...
With this quick realization, and without warning, Sheffer suddenly darted forward, his body jerking to the right as his left fist came up in an uppercut, aiming for the rabbit's stomach. His foot planting hard onto the floor, he put all his strength into one solid movement, following up the quick uppercut with a cross punch aimed directly at the rabbit's jaw, his momentum making his right glove a blur as it rushed through the air towards his opponent.

Even the jackrabbit seemed to be caught a bit by surprise -- as Sheff zeroed in on his opponent, Basil made an attempt to guard himself before the blow struck true. However, despite the thrown-together attempt at defense, the cross punch was still incoming, and the strike landed square on its target. The detective didn't know what hit him as a loud grunt escaped his lips. He went into another spin, dazed from the sudden impact, and he found himself stumbling towards the corner.
Shaking the vapors from his head, Jacques tried to quickly recollect his marbles, as it were, the bells still practically ringing in his ears... Despite the hard knock, the jackrabbit didn't seem fit to give up the ghost so swiftly -- He turned to face Sheff, and, with a dash, Jacques began to duck and weave in quick succession -- left, left, right, left, right...! And as he came within range of the hedgehog, he threw another cross -- only to stop it short, feinting the blow as the opposing fist came hurtling for Sheff's cheekbone as a mean right hook.

The hedgehog couldn't help but give a satisfied smirk as his stronger punch connected, watching the rabbit spin away as he himself backed off just slightly. Yet the hare's next movements caught him off guard, even though he thought he was acting right.
Leaning away from the initial punch, his eyes went wide as it stopped short, soon feeling himself bend right into the legit hook, and it was now his turn to spin in the opposite direction violently, spit flying from his mouth. Gasping for breath as his body swiveled back into position, his eyes were blurry as he shook off the dizzying feeling, his arms going back up.
He too didn't seem ready to go down just yet, preparing himself once more as he blinked away the lights that flashed before his eyes. Sheffer's hair was drenched in sweat as he stepped forward once more, trying a new strategy... one that involved the word onslaught.
The jabs, hooks, and crosses came quickly then, trying to penetrate any defense the rabbit may put up as he nearly charged forward, holding his ground while at the same time trying to gain more, each punch coming in solid and with as much precision as he was capable of. They came high and low, from each side as well, doing anything to try to get one to land effectively.

Catching his breath after that last move, Jacques eyed his opponent, curious about what he was going to attempt next... But taking note of the familiar fire in Sheff's eyes... Basil had a pretty good idea about what was coming. The burly jackrabbit tensed, and he watched as the hedgehog made his move..!
The moment that Sheff charged in to begin the assault, Jacques decided it was high-time for him to do the same. As the hedgehog began to send his own assortment of strikes and blows, so too did the Detective hold firm, and began to send some crosses and jabs of his own. Headstrong as ever, the jackrabbit felt confident enough to sacrifice some hits for the sake of exchanging his own, as he began to shift focus of most of his punches to the hedgehog's face. Spit and sweat flew with each motion Jacques carried through, from the force of his own strikes, as well the power of the hits coming from his opponent. Basil gritted his teeth around his mouth guard and growled as the pummeling continued for both sides, doing his damnedest to stay focused on the hedgehog, and not so much the power of the blows coming from him.
At this rate, it would appear that all the surrounding spectators could see were an absolute flurry of punches from both ends. Truly spectacular..!

* Tack tack!* Right as the boxers began to fly into their hasty flurries, the sound that signified the last ten seconds of the round came. Then the bell rang. That was just the end of the first round. The crowd was fairly worked up, but for good reason: it was the best fighting they'd seen since the beginning of the night, and probably the most true, conventional "boxing" action. The TV commentators discussed it. "That was a heck of a first round. Several really solid hits in there!" "Yeah, definitely. It was almost like watching a duel, very deliberate—quite a few traded blows back and forth, but nobody really went in for the kill until the end of the round." "It's a good show, especially from a couple of amateur fighters. Hawkins was aggressive, but you could really see some good technique and good control of the round by Jacques." "I'd say the detective's landed a few punches in his day, wouldn't you?" "Ha, hey, yeah, you know, I wouldn't wanna be stuck in an interrogation room with'im, I'll tell you that much. What'd our judge score it?" "He gave Jacques that round, 10-9. There are still two rounds left, though. I'll be interested to see how this plays out." *** Round 2 came and went with similar results. The real judges' scores, like always, were kept a secret until the end of the match, but the commentators' judge scored the very narrow round in favor of Sheffer. Whether or not that matched the real score was anybody's guess, but one thing was close: It was very close. The third round was already well underway with about a minute left to go. The decision would likely hinge on whatever happened next.

The detective was breathing hard. He was definitely beginning to show some signs of wear-n-tear, and his opponent wasn't making things any easier. Over the course of the entire match, he had landed some pretty strong hits, but on the other side of the coin, so did the hedgehog. If there was one thing that could be said, it was definitely that this guy was certainly proving to be a tough nut to crack...
But of course, as the rabbit kept in mind, while he may have been starting to tire... his opponent was undoubtedly in the same boat.
With a huff, the detective began to charge, and made to throw another punch in one straight shot for the face -- however, before throwing the cross, Basil weaved to the left at the last minute before hurtling a jab for the hedgehog's side, before backing off directly after the strike. With another hop or so, Jacques made with another lung forward to give Sheff another taste o' the old One-Two, at this point, aiming to try and whittle away at his defense!

The rabbit's presumption was certainly true; Sheffer's stamina was slowly being chipped away as well as the match went on, chest heaving and sweat dripping from his brow as he faced his opponent. Like many times before, the rabbit lunged forward towards him, the hedgehog preparing himself.
Tricked by Jacques' movements, he felt the punch land on his side, giving a grunt as he soon blocked the next punch that came his way, and sensing the follow up, ducked slightly so the second skimmed over his head, weaving to the left as he himself threw a hook towards the rabbit's head. If the punch managed to land or not, he tried to quickly circle Jacques, feet shuffling quickly as he threw a rapid amount of jabs, most aimed for the head.
And, just in conclusion, he jerked quickly in the other direction to throw the rabbit off, now moving in the opposite direction, throwing a powerful cross aimed for the jaw.
