Following Eggman's global takeover in chapter 4, most of the world's guns were seized and destroyed, as are virtually all factories that make firearms. For the most part, this was honored, and relatively few traditional firearms appeared in chapter 4, primarily leaving characters unarmed or equipped with Eggman-made energy weapons.

Now, Chapter 5 has begun, and there are already bullets flying around everywhere. Part of this is due to a butt-ton of NPCs with automatic weapons spilling out their ears, as well as an attack chopper with realistic weaponry, but the other part of it is my own doing, in that I made a character with a gun gimmick. While it isn't a normal, off-the-shelf, dead-serious, realistic weapon, it still shoots bullets, so I am a part of what some may perceive as the problem.

The Sonic series is one that has often had vehicles and robots shooting bullets around, but apart from Shadow's game, it hasn't really been a... realistic-gun-rich series. Thus, at this juncture, we have a decision we can make — and you can scroll up and vote.

I chose the "rare" option, but I do so with specific criteria:

To me, traditional firearms are sort of associated with older technology and grit, whereas, the energy weapons seem more futuristic, so I think, that given the technological richness common in this series, it's appropriate for mainstream usage, but say, Westside Island, which we kind of depict as run-down, and gritty, more traditional firearms feel more appropriate. That being said, small militia groups from the hills of Chun-nan don't seem like they should have newer stuff, save for the guy with an Eggman 'bot arm (which I absolutely loved).

I dunno. Maybe these are just my personal leanings. Anybody else? Thoughts?

As far as the longcoated guys go (the only ones I've been in control of), they're not from Chun-nan, and everything they had was just jacked directly from stolen or scrapped Eggman equipment, because I figured they wouldn't be able to find any weapons any other way in this so-immediately-post-Eggman-Empire world.

Granted, one can presume that even if they were from Chun-nan, there's still plenty of Eggman to go around there, too.

Well I agree on the rare portion for one.

Guns can still be made no doubt, just not in the seemingly endless amounts mentioned before.

Also since one of Dezzy's gimmicks are firearms I would like to be able to "rearm" him. Though how he gets a new gun won't be some willie-nillie find in a store or one on ground.

I would keep gunnery levels to; light in numbers, and limited to the extent that the character(s) in question either made it or are fragilely kept together (like possible bullet jamming) and scarce in bullet supply unless it's CE powered.

I agree that guns should be a rarity. If they're too easy to get, they're too easy to use. It's a Sonic RP after all; most of the point is giving characters interesting and creative abilities and coming up with ways to apply those abilities.
Just my opinion though; doesn't matter much since I haven't even joined with my real character yet.

Kinda feel bad for giving my character firearm experience, now. Though I do hope to go about it in a semi-unique way.

My hang up on making them rare is how it will effect player characters who depend on them. I have one of the only PC's that depends on a traditional sort of gun, so removing them or the ammo for it is a bit of a problem for me.

I would be willing to agree with Mie on this, allowing them for the low tech and shadier places that might have been hiding a few. With the added condition allowing that current PC's with justifiable supply be able to hold on to their current equipment and ammunition.

as far as future NPC, characters and what have you, energy weapons are just as good as any other and I don't see a problem with the switch.

FWIW, there isn't an option in the poll that mentions anything about removing guns from characters who currently have one in their possession. And it'd be pretty impossible to make ammo rare when it's a very simplistic process to make ammo at home even in real life. Making guns, though, not so much.
