Post subject:  Your RP soundtrack, the tunes behind thread titles, and more

As some (maybe most) of you have noticed, the RP threads tend to have names that are either song titles, or an obscure/distinctive lyric from a song. I decided to start this thread just for the fun of it, so we could share the music we associate with RP threads, characters, storylines, and whatever else. I know at least some of us write with music going in the background.

To get it rolling, I'll reveal the music of a few thread titles (at least as many as appear in the recent RP threads listing). Be forewarned, I often pick songs for thread titles that don't necessarily fit. Sometimes it's just random because I can't think of another name, and it happens to be what I'm listening to at or around the time of starting the thread. Don't expect deep meaning in most cases.

Saints without sparks (Ch. 2: Day 7, pt. II)
Jamiroquai - "Rock Dust Light Star"

The lyrics kinda made me think of Coop. (Note: This is purely me, not necessarily endorsed by John.)

Getting Strong Now (Ch. 2: Day 9)
Bill Conti - "Gonna Fly Now"

Yeah, I went there. Indulgence.

Put on (Ch. 2: Day 11, pt. II)
The Who - Eminence Front

Government work, strutting with guns, uniforms and sunglasses (at least Ace), this song cannot be left out

Where the rain gets in (Ch. 2: Day 12, pt. II)
The Beatles - Fixing a Hole

Completely unfitting. I had no idea what to name it. It was rainy, I was tired of trying to think of a name for the thread, and this was the first thing I thought of.

Pealing thunder (Ch. 2: Day 12, pt. III) [Finale]
Repaired by more than glue (Ch. 2, Day 13) [Epilogue]
Something was bound to go right (Ch. 2, Day 13) [Epilogue]
Snow Patrol - The Lightning Strike
No youtube available, too long, but here's the whole 17 minute monster
This medley matched up nicely with the concept we ended up coming up with in the finale. I brought the electricity, John brought the idea of a flood, whammo, this song jutted out to me. (Probably the most disagreeable of all my selections, though, and I guarantee 50% of people will dislike it.)

Anybody else do this with their thread titles, or have certain songs they associate with threads? Maybe some songs you associate with characters? C'mon. Share. Maybe we can make this an ongoing thing to accompany threads that crop up from here on.

Irrelevant to the naming of threads, but I just have to add that I maintain, until the day I die, Zebrahead's "Karma-Flavored Whiskey" was my song for 90% of the Pealing Thunder thread.

(I also don't like using them fancy Youtube things, so LINKS
LINKS FOR EVERYONE)

I just wanted to say that, starting with the finale of the Pealing Thunder (read: after Jam pimpslaps Seven), I had this song on repeat the entire time I read the thread, and wrote my post. (Skip to the 1:45 point for the good part.)

And just because I should never make it an actual theme song, simply due to awkward naming and the fact that it comes from a game everyone has played (or should), I've always associated this with Caz, and have written her to it more than once. It fits so well, I think.

Likewise, although it's a little darker than our current RP is now, this has always said Ace to me.

Revive! Be alive!

No, actually, I just decided to dump a boatload of the songs behind thread titles. Not all of these are mine, but I'm reportin' on'em anyway. As usual, music videos may or may not be awful/hilarious, and songs may have absolutely nothing to do with thread content. Actually, they usually won't have a lot to do with it. Just occasionally. Also, this reveals that Gorillaz may be overrepresented. Will note for the future.

• Invaders Must Die (Ch. 3b: Day 1, pt. VI): Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
• Silver clouds turn to golden stairs (Ch. 3b: Day 2): Gov't Mule - Banks of the Deep End
• It's the dawn, you'll see (Ch. 3b: Day 2, pt. II) [Finale]: Gorillaz - El Mañana
• Tired of wearing black and blue (Ch. 4: Day 1): Foo Fighters - Gimme Stitches
• Quantity is Job One (Ch. 4: Day 1, pt. III): Five Iron Frenzy - Quantity is Job One (just an album title, no specific song)
Ready for retaliation (Ch. 4: Day 1, pt. II): Gorillaz - Dirty Harry
• It could become a problem (Ch. 4: Day 2 pt. II): Snow Patrol - Whatever's Left (Youtube unavailable, Grooveshark only)
• It's the music that we choose (Ch. 4: Day 2 pt. III): Gorillaz - 19/2000 (Soulchild Remix)
• Sand and Rings and the Southwest Sun (Ch. 4: Day 2): America - Horse with No Name + The Killers - Neon Tiger
• Reaching in to figure it out (Ch. 4: Day 2, pt. IV): Sister Hazel - Grand Canyon
• Seventh Son (Ch. 4: Day 3): Johnny Rivers - Seventh Son
• Somebody's gonna come undone (Ch. 4: Day 3, pt. II): Eagles - Heartache Tonight
• Who's to blame if you're not around (Ch. 4: Day 4, pt. II): Supertramp - Take the Long Way Home (Youtube unavailable, Grooveshark again)
• Of freedom and of pleasure (Ch. 4: Day 4, pt. II) [Finale?]: Relient K - Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Tears for Fears cover)
• Never had to knock on wood (Ch. 4 Ending) [Mako]: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression that I Get
• Dying to get my blood on you (Ch. 4 Ending) [Rock]: Foo Fighters - Gimme Stitches (yeah I used it again)
• One minute I held the key (Ch. 4 Ending) [Geoff]: ? (Never asked Sheff about this one)
• That's Me in the Corner (Ch. 4 Ending) [Ace]: R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
• I'll be your sword and shield (Ch. 4 epilogue): Sister Hazel - Sword and Shield
• Free Fallin' (Ch. 5: Day 1): Tom Petty - Free Fallin'
• No strangers singing in your name (Ch. 5): Foo Fighters - Long Road to Ruin
• And the steel rails are cold and hard (Ch. 5: Day 2): The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Runnin'
• Too much panic in this town (Ch. 5: Day 2, Pt. II): Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground
• The neon lights make me numb (Ch. 5: Day 3): Gorillaz - Hong Kong

I'm kinda amused by how relevant some excerpts of Gimme Stitches' lyrics can be made to Rock's side of the story, which is why I'm so attached to the song. Besides the fact that it's catchy, I mean.
I can be your right of way / so we can get out of here
- Rock plays the bad guy to facilitate escape in the opening thread of the chapter.

I've always been the one who runs from everyone / 'Cause everyone's just too weird
- Closed off from the rest of the main cast, with whom he simply can't get along.

Sink with someone tied to me / I'm making you volunteer
- Jam. She gets dragged down for the ride.

Another one has come and gone / They crawl along, make them disappear
- Yet another "big bad" has been made to "disappear" as of last story.

Dress me up in stitches, it's now or never / Tired of wearing black and blue
- Recovery from injuries in last arc, and ditching his old blue and black clothes, literally, for a new uniform.

Take another stab at me, I promise in time I'll heal
- Becomes a willing target for the sake of accomplishing the objective.

But yesterday went on and on a bit too long
- All of the previous chapter (space arc). For real. (Both literally with the months it took OOC and the time dilation that made a few days span a month IC.)

How can you go on when you're murdering someone / Killing me like you do
- All but entirely burned in effigy and despised in chapter 4. He was trying to accomplish a good goal, but came across as a selfish, bad guy in the process.

I'm a big fan of the Metal Slug game franchise, and I really love some of their music.

So, because of the Chun-Nan deal, I was reminded of a couple of songs from the game with an East Asian flair to them (done stylishly, of course). I've played them a couple of times while readin' the threads, 'specially durin' the ACTION FIGHTIN' times. Yeah, this post is just me being indulgent.
