It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

The cat gladly accepted Ooryl's little present to him (as he was unlikely to trust anyone but himself handling Caz right then) but groaned slightly with what his fantastic ability to measure something's balance told him. (She was putting on a little weight. Just a little.) He hoisted her up properly, and looked at his rapidly dwindling options. (But not before giving a few seconds of complete dumbfoundedness at the introduction of F***ING GHOSTS.)

"I... I..."

He could run back and get mauled to death by an army of regenerating zombie robots.

He could run forward and get shot to death by canon fire and the like.

Or, he could stay, and get... ghosted to death... by ghosts. (F***in' A!)

Well Ace, being the wondrous purveyor of logic and wisdom that he was, soon deduced that although he had no idea what these new ghastly figures had in store for him, judging by how the day was going so far, they'd probably end up worse than anything else so far. Somehow. They totally would.

"...I hate Mondays."

"Mm, me too..." Caz replied, and... cuddled up to his chest. At least she seemed to be growing slightly more conscious as time passed.

So, Ace watched the SSD haul ass outta there... and, after a bit of cringing and a quiet "aah, crap", he hauled ass right after them. They were the SSD, right? They should have some idea of what they're doing. And besides, running with a pack makes you less a target yourself. So he ran, zig-zagging as unpredictably as he could, crouching as low as he could... with his growing-weight-girlfriend in his arms.

Fortunately, the troops and tanks lined up right in front of the president's house didn't open fire on them.

Well, successfully. Upon first sighting them, one tanker fired a wild shot that must have singed the top of their heads as it passed, but it was unclear if he was shooting at them or behind them. Either way, nobody got hurt, and it seemed they were being allowed passage. Either that, or everybody was just too busy focusing all fire on the still-moving, still-walking boat to be concerned with the group of survivors in the slightest.

The ship, however, seemed more than concerned with them. Stomping, tromping, and generally rampaging all about, its bird-like feet crushed the earth beneath as it leapt about like some sort of giant, utterly surreal boat-cat trying to pounce on people. Unfortunately, for its sheer size, its feet actually weren't that big, which meant that it actually wasn't succeeding in hitting any of its tiny targets who bothered to make a run for it (which was hopefully all of them).

Meanwhile, something had begun to change in the sky. The dark, sooty mess was thinning; a change in the wind was blowing everything seaward once more, and for the first time during the incident, the sun was actually beginning to beam through the haze again—And the ghost ship didn't like it.

The giant contraption and all of its robotic cohorts became that much more sluggish as the environment lightened. The strange bonds holding the two pieces of the ravaged patrol boat began to loosen and sag a little, and its angry, stamping steps slowed. The cannon fire still wasn't enough to take it down on its own, but it did seem to be holding the ghouls and their deranged vehicle back.

The mere mortal crew still had a good chance. It was just a matter of finding a way to capitalize on it, whether that meant getting away, or doing something awesome.

Cross slid to a halt and whipped around to face the retreating troops, as well as the civilians. It was hard not to feel responsible for those without a uniform, but they didn't have any choice but to run. He cursed his troops' obscene lack of firepower in the face of this kind of threat; they'd have to do something in the future to correct that--at least a little.

As the soldiers raced past him, though, it would become apparent that Cross had become more interested in something other than running. His eyes were fixated on the metal horde, then on the wind and burgeoning sunlight. It was almost like a message from the heavens. The big one had slowed down too, and that gave them a chance to--

"Hold up!" he yelled, moreso into his communicator than anything. The message went through the earpieces of every squadmember and they jolted to an awkward, abrupt halt, looking at their commanding officer like he'd just told them all to cut off their own limbs.

"What the hell--" an utterly baffled Tally quipped, more mortified than frustrated at the order. She and the crow didn't see eye-to-eye on much, but this was just... He's lost his damn mind.

"Major," Killey started, "we don't have any way of--"

"Bangs ready!" He reached onto his belt and grabbed something, a small cylindrical device.

Without wasting an instant, the confused team followed suit. They didn't have any clue as to what the purpose of this was, but following orders was one of those things soldiers did almost without giving it conscious thought, even in the face of a crazy-ass monstrosity of mechanized warfare like that.

"Bangs out!" Cross pulled the device's pin and lobbed it right up towards the killboat, right up towards all those eyes. When the team saw just where he'd thrown the little thing, out went their own 'bangs, aimed square at the same spot. Twelve little cylinders arced through the air like tiny, dangerous footballs.

No sooner had they all played their little game of quarterback than they actually turned their heads to look away from the ship and cover their ears (despite the helmets) as best they could. Why? One flashbang upon detonation could blind a person for anywhere from five seconds to a whole minute, the sheer noise would probably make car alarms a quarter mile down the street go berserk, and those weren't even the extent of the effects, as the SSD squadmembers had all learned (enduring flashbangs was part of their initial training; Cross had been nauseous immediately afterwards, couldn't maintain his balance for five minutes, couldn't fully hear for another twenty minutes, and was ultimately still seeing spots seven hours later).

Now consider twelve going off almost in unison.

Rock (who had until then been running along with the rest of the group) stopped when Cross issued the command, unaware that it was directed only to his troops. He soon wished he hadn't. Why? He'd had similar training (along with the delights of tear gas). He had an instantaneous flashback.

"Why I gotta do this again? I mean, I just wanna fly planes and stuff. Not gonna be around flashbangs, an' tear gas, an' friggin' mustard gas or whatever the hell else we're—" *BANG.* "HAAAGHHHHFFFFFFFMYBRAIN—"

Zoom back from memory-land to present day: Rock has taken a knee, and is facing the opposite direction with hands over his ears.

"JAM- ACE—COVER UP!"

As they detonated in one humongous chain of unceasing booms, he couldn't help but contemplate silently to himself:

"Why are those louder than the cannons? I remember these things, now. What antiterrorist unit needs flashbangs that hot? Holy hell..."

Implicit, unwavering, rock-solid trust was the only earthly force capable of making Jam acquiesce to orders in light of what she'd just seen (and subsequently been running from). Y'see, she didn't really draw the same correlation as all the other smarties did, nor did she even really care that the horde of raging deathbots, and their possessed, monstrosity of a ring leader were momentarily mollified. As far as the practical-to-a-fault primate was concerned, that was just prime opportunity to put some real distance between it and herself.

But without so much as the inclination to argue at Rock's imperative, she torqued her hips to the side mid-sprint, and skid to a stop in a surprisingly graceful-looking crouch with her head between her knees, arms acting as a makeshift helmet, and barely any idea just what she was covering up for. That was until the rapid fire chain of ear-splitting booms gave the impression that someone was firing bowling balls out of a gatling gun, and she suddenly felt that if she'd been able to produce a bomb shelter from thin air, as well as the time to get in it, it wouldn't have sufficed.

With a live mole in his very arms, Ace was hardly one to go with such a crazy idea as "make yourself a stationary target" at that point... or at least he would have been, had he not been tailing Cross and crew as closely as he was. He was extremely lucky to have heard Cross holler his orders, and while he didn't quite understand what he meant in the heat of the moment, it didn't take very long for him to figure it out.

In a flat instant, Ace went from hauling ass to ducking and covering, and slid rather gracefully behind a nearby hedge bush (like it'd help) before adapting the most convenient position he could. One forearm on one ear, one shoulder on the other, all the while holding Caz as closely to his chest as he could without smothering her.

It was at this point in time he was very thankful his strength lied in his tightly shut eyes, rather than his ears.

Damn that still hurt, though. God!

And where was Teck in all of this blatant hysteria? Sure, at first he was still (im)patiently awaiting Cross' OMG MUST BE SUPPPPER IMPORTANT *flailing hands at the wrists* words, and then out of nowhere the vessel he was certain met its bitter and very high-voltage end came back to life in the midst of a most ghoulish display of surrealism. Indeed, his reaction to that particular twist was no more than a slide of his spectacles down his nose, a quick push of a pointer to reposition them, a twitchy glance of his vibrant violets, and a vapid gibber regarding future visits to this city, ".. never again." Suffice to say, the only good he saw out of this was the sudden drop in temperature judging by his comforted shake of the shoulders and kindled liveliness.

Still... he hauled his spiny keister right then and there, his natural speed careening his darting mass past all the others in a faint breeze. Seemingly immortal robots with what he thought were childish attack patterns was one thing, but when you had a rompin', stompin', just plain thompin' combat frigate ransacking a once finely-landscaped lawn, well, let's just say his past experience in vigilance had suddenly escaped him in the presence of a genuine fear for his life.

That's not to say he still wasn't angry at all these schmos - the only one more angry than Teck at the moment was probably the Mexican (or the Sonic world's equivalent to Mexico) worker who slaved day in and day out to fabricate the hoity-toity fixtures that once adorned this lawn. As Teck made plentiful distance between himself and the boat, he pondered these thoughts in an everlasting pout once he took refuge behind a downed chunk of what used to be a roof. This was around the time Cross and his men intervened along with the sudden but very welcomed ray of sunlight bursting through the thick and cadaverous cloud cover, and upon witnessing a very disgruntled group o' ghouls aboard the progressively bestilled seacraft, it was then Teck's confidence began to mount as he analogously dispatched from his "ivory tower," watching intently as the SSD did what they do best. In all his years, it was a fresh change to actually see a military group do something helpful.

"The damn buzzard's doing it," he stifled in a hushed tone, approaching the others and straightening his jacket. "But why the sudden sunlight?"

Nature's worst lightning looked feeble in that moment as those twelve flashbangs lit up the yard and sky, and left unsuspecting troops all the way as far as the front porch of the president's house fully blinded for the moment. The light seared utterly.

When the flash, glare, and trace smoke disappeared, the ship remained, but with absolutely no sign of life (or undeath). There was just silence after it dropped to the ground and fell to shambles. The only sound was that of the distantly retreating small robots.

The sun continued to shine weakly through the gaps in the sooty sky. The temperature soon returned to normal, while the wind whipped the dirty skies ever cleaner. It became obvious that it wasn't really that cloudy out. Whatever it was that obscured the sky with that nasty, strange mix of steamy fog and sulfuric stench was getting blown clear as a mere matter of chance. It was a fortuitous change in the winds had come just in time to inspire a plan, and lingered long enough to offer some peace.

Once the troops lining the house were done prying their clenched cheeks apart, and releasing those breaths they'd been holding for the past minute or so, a steady murmur of activity returned to the area at large, and, if only for the time being, a sense of "normality" returned. That is, normality for a veritable warzone, anyway.

When the insane lightshow and the booming apocalypse noise had passed, it felt weirdly quiet to Cross, even with the sound of the fleeing foes. That was what he got for setting some kind of most decibels ever holy crap record, probably. The others rose, thankful the debacle had ended.

Regardless of what they'd just did, though, there was no apparent celebrating from him: he turned his back to the hunk of scrap and started walking in the direction of the president's place. No, he never really oozed cheerfulness in the first place, but he was more frustrated than pleased. It was only dumb luck they'd taken that thing out of commission, and it looked like the end of the world out here, on their leader's lawn, no less. It would have been like celebrating a funeral. At least the cloggy air was dissipating thanks to the wind and the sun was appearing again--better than still being stuck in smog city.

Elegant Joe hunched his shoulders up and flexed. "We... are the kings... of the WORLD!" Inexplicably McBride appeared next to him and busted out the muscles too for a few seconds, until he realized he was in more pain than he'd really realized, because he kind of lurched over with a little ow noise.

It took several seconds of silence (not counting the metallic clanking and scraping that'd pretty much become ambient noise over the last several hours) for a single wary green eye to crack open, and another few along with the cautious cries of kind-of-victory to coax the balled-up monkey from her nearly fetal position.

Still very obviously wound like a rubber band on the verge of snapping, Jam rose to her full height, casting suspicious glances around and over her shoulders as if just waiting for something else to grow legs and attack. When the underhanded ambush she was so evidently anxious for never came, she visibly deflated -- just by a breath -- and sprang into an impatient jog back towards the whiter primate.

"You okay?" she asked, with a bit more concern to her tone than the subject of her scrutiny normally garnered. Her head fell to a cant, as she evaluated Rock's face from angle to angle, probably inspecting for any damage he might be too macho to volunteer. "Heard someone got hurt in the crash."

It took a few seconds for Ace to stand up, however wobbly, rapidly stumble-stepping like he'd sat down at the movies for too long. Eventually, he regained his footing, and the ringing in his ears died down to a minimum. When he was back to his senses, the first thing he did was look back to where the big, looming threat once was... to find a massive, cowering retreat in its place. Oh yeah. His face went from disbelief, to elevated disbelief, to absolute exhilaration.

"Ha...! HA! Yeeaaahh, that's RIGHT, YOU FREAKY BASTARDS!" he emphasized with a quick fist pump or two. "YOU AIN'T TAKIN' S**T TODAY!"

And then he clumsily, but happily stumbled back and fell flat on his ass ("hhhoooly s**t"), apparently not quite able-bodied enough to celebrate to the fullest just yet. And got a good look at one woman who didn't seem quite in the mood for celebrating.

"Ow. My head."

"Uu--uugh... Ow. My. Head."

"Ah, Caz." He crawled over to her on the grass. "Caz, you okay?"

"My head hurts," she quickly replied.

She rolled her head about on the floor, her hands not quite clutching her head, but just around it, like she was trying to balance herself. She felt her forehead, and it felt weird, and sticky. She looked at it in frustrated confusion, and pressed it back to her head, and looked at it again, as if to say 'What? really?'

"That's... blood. Is that my...? Yyyuhh, that's, my blood. N'guuuhGod. Why is there so much blood." She looked around the skies, found no answers, and then gave Ace a very questioning look. "Danny, what the hell happened?"

He grabbed her hand and smiled a little. "The truck we were in crashed. You got knocked on the head. Lotsa' s**t blew up. We were attacked by ghosts. We kicked their asses and are somehow still alive, and now we're in front of the president's house. There are medics on the scene, and you're gonna be just fine." He scooped her up one more time, and went to rendezvous with the others.

"Oh, okay," she said plainly. "I'm gonna take a nap, now."

"Go ahead."

"Yeah," he answered with some... irritation in his voice, although it wasn't directed at her. "Wasn't me, though."

Since the blast had finished, he'd been standing in the lawn, waiting for something else to happen, as if unsure it was over. He refused to relax yet. As for his own injuries? He looked okay. Right side of his face was a little red looking, and he had dark, oily or sooty looking abrasions here and there, but he didn't look much worse for wear than he had after finishing fighting most of the previous night. He just looked tired.

"You did good," Rock finally added, softening just a bit in tone and expression. He hung his thumbs from his pockets and slouched a little as he gave her a once-over. "Y'don't look like you got hurt much, either."

That was his way of asking if she was okay.

((OOC: Shortie, but I couldn't resist.))

Callous as it was, if it wasn't Rock, Jam forgot to care just who got the pointy end of the stick in the crash, figuring that whoever it was, no one was really freaking out to warrant a life and death injury, so it wasn't too serious, anyway. She grinned a little malleably at her compliment, puffing her chest out subtly, until her check-up was summarized so succinctly.

"Me?" she sniffed with a comically forced nonchalance, vainly attempting to coerce her fur into lying flat again. "Jus' violated like a parkin' meter, nothin' twenty years a' therapy won't fix."

The squad watched in silence while the non-uniforms began getting their bearings. Their semi-medic's eyes followed the yellow cat while he picked up the wounded one; there was a tinge of responsibility in him for seeing her treatment through. Well, they probably had more capable and better-equipped emergency personnel inside the president's place. He did what he could.

Cross and Killey marched across the lawn. It seemed the presidential home had become a veritable hold-out point for the military. He couldn't tell if they were allowing regular civilians in, and that would have been a problem for those they had come with, but Cross would try to work his magic if that were the case.

"Nice job by the civs," Killey commented.

"Yeah," Cross halfheartedly mumbled. It had gone pretty well, but there had been distinct bumps along the way, bumps that very, very easily could have been avoided. Next time there would be less dithering about and much less faith placed into certain members of society who think they know what they're doing. "Well, by most of them." He huffed through his nostrils.

"I guess that got too crazy for people who probably aren't used to this."

Cross shrugged. "Sometimes crazy is the best way to go."

They stopped near a writhing McBride, who was sitting on the ground favoring his leg. The medic approached and stared down at him too for a few seconds. "Problem?"

"Hurghblurgh," grumbled the alligator.

"Hm." The medic scratched his chin and went through the vast internal library of medical routines and knowledge he surely had. "Does it hurt when Ooryl does this?" He kicked the alligator right in the gash on his leg.

"AAAAAAHHHHHHH--"

As little of a camaraderie he may have had with these guys, Teck was certainly grateful for their vitality. As long as everyone was okay, he was okay - albeit, like Rock, Teck had a cynical knack for these kinds of things. As he sat down upon another chunk of cement just cooling down from the flame that had once engulfed it, he kept his ears perked and his guard up just in case Mr. Danger wasn't quite done soliciting his product.

Most of Teck's injuries lingered from his past bouts within the hour, such as the indentions left in his fur from how tightly those tentacles constricted along his extremities and even his torso, or the the light cuts any shards of metal drew upon his skin as he recklessly plummeted away in spinball form. He had little to no involvement in the final bout, in fact the only thing he got out of it were ears that didn't seem to stop ringing as a result of those deafening flash grenades and rampant cannons. Sometimes acute auditory senses had their drawbacks...

"Heh, well at least that's wrapped up... huh?" Rubbing his hands together and rocking back and forth as if to comfort himself, Teck just began speaking when his wristwatch communicator vibrated under his densely furred cuff. His leather sleeve crinkling as he pushed the cuff along to expose his all-time favorite personal gadget, the wristwatch literally bloomed open like a metallic flower to expose a 1" x 1" screen depicting a very pretty human girl with a lightly tanned complexion, jeweled blue eyes and jet black hair. The image was a still; presumably an uploaded photograph of her laughing while doing something (it looked as though she was driving) and under it was her phone number. With the press of a button, her voice exited a miniature mesh speaker directly under the screen.
"Hey!"

"Janet, dah'ling! Quite, quite good to hear from you, m'lady - you wouldn't believe the pandemonium I've been through! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the news reaches your nation's shores."

"Yes, yes, I am very sure it'll take little time. Where are you that this happened? And WHAT happened?"

"I don't know if I should tell you that, haha - lest you inform President Emerson which'll stir a veritable shitestorm the likes of which few have ever seen."

"Come on, Tecko, how long have you known me?"

"Ample time, dah'ling, ample time. Hm, well I went to Central City on business since I had to drop off some research to a patent office here. Heaven forbid they let me drop it off at Incartopolis' (North Island capital city) office, so I need to hurdle my spiny patoot' all the way down to this madhouse. Cue to the disgruntled locals - RUDE AS CAN BE- and which were, as far as obtaining information went, as useful as blooming tits on a bull... they ran around like Flickies gone awry. Alas, once I found the source of their anguish, well I was in for quite a ride. To nutshell it, Janet, there were bloody GHOSTS possessing complex military equipment and zombie-ish, virtually indestructible robots which took on very similar designs as those of Eggman's!"

"Hmm, well Teck I'm sorry to break it to you, but I hope you don't feel too disappointed when I say that in a world of giant water monsters, lizards shoving space colonies up their ass, and megalomaniac egg-shaped scientists, your charming little anecdote seems hardly... well, WOW, OH MY GOD, REQUIRES ATTENTION - you know what I'm saying?"

He could already see that she was probably filing her nails while saying that. "Ah, well Janet, I'm sorry but I'm busy right now, I'm gonna head off. Cheers."

Hanging up just in time for her to nonchalantly say, "Ta," he made way towards Ace & Caz as he started to regroup with the others, always mindful on the safety of others. "'Ey mate, is she going to be alright? I never intended to make a fool of myself earlier, I was just trying to help her."
