"..."

The hooded deer looked up as the elevator came to a halt, and the lights went out. He grumbled, looking at his tight-lipped partner in crime. He reached over his shoulder and grabbed an arrow. This particular arrow had a buzz saw on it, with some kind of mechanism to make it spin with the push of a button.

"Coop said a buzz saw arrow was self-indulgent."

He smirked and lowered to a knee to begin cutting away at the floor of the elevator car. Just a big enough one that would allow the llama to rip the floor out.

Rekk rubbed his hands together briefly before standing opposite to Rock and pushing while he pulled. He let out a couple grunts of exertion as the door gave way an inch or two, before stopping. "Wait a sec..." He muttered. "Mi. Get in here." He gestured. The drone beeped in compliance and floated over, getting in the gap in between the doors.

"Careful." Rekk said to Rock, taking a couple steps back as his drone warmed up. It hummed for a second before a sphere barely any bigger than it appeared, and then expanded outwards. The doors let out what could be best described as an unearthly grinding noise as they were forced apart. The shield then vanished and the drone floated back behind Rekk.

"Hell of a lot quicker than pulling them open. Let's go."

Rock was more than welcoming to the prospect of letting a robot do the job. In fact, he stepped back and quickly whipped out his phone (a considerably more beefy, clunky, old-looking, but durable and more importantly EMP-resistant phone), and... began texting.

"Yeah," he replied in an absent-minded mutter as he fudged keys quickly. "Right. What?" He looked up. "Oh, yeah, sorry. Let's go." And with that, he stuffed the phone away and completely unceremoniously jumped into the gaping doors, plummeting into the danger-rife, uneven-walled, hazardous elevator shaft without a second thought.

And the message he sent?

As the elevator doors were forced open and the Monkeys-n-Cat brigade made ready to descend, an indescribably funky odour began to penetrate the room. Not quite cabbage and not quite 'old mayonnaise', it nevertheless possessed far too many of those qualities to be described as anything besides 'stench'.

Tracer looked up as the lights flickered and the elevator came to a stop. A reckless tactic by their pursuers but one she couldn't begrudge them for useing. She watched the deer cut a hole into the floor. She extended a hand above them towards the top service hatch. More of the thick foam started to spray out of her wrist guard. It expanded into and through all the joints bubbling up in a sticky outline on the topside of the elevator. The foam was supposed to be used to restrain people, it was so tacky it'd take the fur off, so she used it liberally. Then she grabbed her gear, and she reached down and ripped the plate off the floor of the elevator, once out of her way she went ahead and pressed it against the service hatch on the roof. True the the allegations of the manufacturer it worked well as an adhesive. She then grabbed the deer in her free hand and jumped down into the hole.

annnnnd she just free fell. Feet first like a big armored rock. It wasn't until she was nearing the bottom and the mechanical whats-its of the elevator that the thrusters on her back fired up again slowing their decent. When they reached the bottom they had a tiny lip to stand upon just over the machinery for the elevator that was now thoroughly cooked. Tracer let the deer go leaving him to his own devices, she rested her board against the doors then jammed her hand between them, denting the doors outward in tracer hand-sized bumps. Once she's punched herself a good enough hold started prying them open with a screeching grind. Once opened far enough the board fell forward through the doors and worked as a nice place holder that Tracer stepped on to get through, and waited for the deer to join her before she yanked the board back with some more delightful sparking and grinding.

OOC: Go, go, Gadget-completely pointless, "I'm still here" post!

Jam remained leaning against her support wall both at Rock's request for grunt work, and at Rekk's delegation of said grunt work to his little robot assistant (which she briefly and irreverently pondered to cost of). She seemed only mildly interested in the task at hand, with the majority of her focus befalling the EMSing simian. With raised brows, but nary a word, she peeled herself off the wall, and fell into line immediately behind the utilitarian cat, lightly nudging Rock with a passing elbow as she went.

"Hey, what're you--"

He protested when she grabbed him and suddenly, they were freefalling. His hands rose to hold the top of his hood so it'd stop flapping. It wasn't really gonna come off any time soon, since it had horns keeping it in place, but one has to wonder how long it takes him to get that thing on in the first place.

He balanced on the lip of the elevator doorway when she let him go, not flailing too much thanks to his excellent equalibrium. Nonetheless, he grumbled something about being grabbed.

Once the board was jammed into the door enough, he stepped through after Tracer. His annoyed demeanor all but gone, "Nice job." He complimented before looking around at where they were as he continued through the hall.

It was strange how falling through an elevator shaft was something Rock actually had experience doing. There was a sense of uncertainty or worry in his actions as he snagged one of several lined-up cables in his gloved fingers, jammed the arch of one of his hefty boots into it as a brake, and controlled his decent completely with the combined friction of his beastly powerful grip and durable shoe sole.

Lighting was dim to nonexistent, but the shadowy silhouette of the stalled elevator car approached rapidly. He slowed himself, leapt free of the cable, and landed with a sturdy whong on the super-durable freight elevator's ceiling. As thoughtful as Tracer had been in trying to slow down her pursuers' progress, it would have surely come to her dismay if she had been able to see how Rock just bypassed the car entirely by dropping off its side through the ample space provided for the huge elevator's counterweight. From there, it was a short fall to the bottom, where he landed with another strong clomp, climbed up to the closed doors, and began to evaluate his options.

The doors were damaged, but still extremely sturdy. By the time Jam and Rekk inevitably arrived along behind, he hadn't made much progress.

"... Rekk, I wanna a plasma cutter after this is all over," he complained. "A good, industrial, government-quality, government-budget plasma cutter. I need another one'a those portable cutters I used to have. Sh**, I don't know how we're gonna open this."

Tracer and Archer meanwhile might have been surprised to find that they weren't arriving at a barren, undefended underground mess of empty hallways, but instead a facility with the highest level of defense seen anywhere outside of old (now-defunct) Prison Island. The second they both emerged, they found opposition.

Targeting lasers settled on both as they faced down the trio of hulking mechanical opponents: B-3x "Hot Shot" walkers. Standing proud with armored missile pods high on their shoulders, gatling guns on their noses in front of their armored glass canopies, and beam cannons slung under their fuselages, they were ready and waiting to welcome the guests with a unified barrage of missiles and plasma blasts. The vehicles were powerful, for sure, but slow as Christmas.

Fight or flee? If their selected option was the latter, the duo's only point of escape and progress was not far past the walkers in the form of a huge, metal security door with four large bolt mechanisms, one to a corner. It was a pretty standard setup for GUN facilities, and wouldn't stand up to high firepower strategically placed in the right spots.

It may have seemed lucky for Rekk, Rock and Jam that the elevator doors would soon be turned to smoldering slag, but that wasn't taking into account that they too would have to survive the multitudinous explosions, and find a safe opportunity to get out. Yeah, actually, they might've been better off not helping the GUN troops yet.

Tracer turned to face the robots as targeting lasers came to rest on her. After they picked the spots to start launching missile she activated her jump pack to dodge them, but only after the rockets had fired. She left the buck to his own devices as she hopped around in front of the elevators. the rockets pelting the doors and the walls around the elevator. Turning Rock's exit into a fiery mess. Her cannon pivoted down over her shoulder as she came to a stop against the wall to the right of the robots. her targeting display picked her spot and the mean beam cannon fired off a steady beam of energy that ripped through the nose of the first robot and into the sides of the others as the laser swept to the side boring a slash in each robot. While not a big wide beam, the swath of metal carved out compromised the robots, this was going to result in yet more explosions. Tracer did love a good boom.

Both flashier and less flashy than the white-furred action hero in her descent, Jam merely free-fell to within a stone's throw of their floor, only suddenly and violently soar momentarily back upward with a telling burst of light and its accompanying BZRRT, before dropping nimbly to her feet perhaps a second or two after Rock.

With a look of concern -- first to their impeded path (or more likely, to the unseen bedlam on its other side) and then to each of her cohorts -- the berry-hued primate queried in complete seriousness, gesturing to the door as she stepped up to, "Uh. Stupid question: D'we really want to get this thing ope--"

B-B-BOOM.

What must have sounded like a barrage of punches from a greased locomotive, assaulted the sliding doors as if on cue, and knocked the unsuspecting girl off her feet with a flash, and into the back wall of the elevator shaft, where she crumpled to the floor with what might have been a painful-sounding thud, were anyone able to hear it. The twin panels bowed violently inward, while the concurrent and ensuing fires heated the metal components, and effectively ruined whatever electrical components Jam and the concussion failed to.

The blast easily knocked Rock off of the lip of the elevator door, back down into the shallow pit intended for the bottom of the elevator. It was a rough looking tumble that ended on his hands and knees, but he was up again just about as fast as was possible. Whether or not Jam had gotten her bearings back, he quickly and decisively pulled her to cover beneath the threshold of the (now open) elevator door, and stayed low, himself.

"No sense gettin' in the way yet," he advised as he took a quick peek, then ducked again. The walkers were damaged, but looked like they still had fight left in them (and more importantly, munitions), so Rock wasn't keen on distracting their targeting systems any with his presence.

"WRRRK--kshk. Blue wings, blue wings, do you copy? I've taken critical damage, over!"

"Roger that, Big Bird--Early Riser, copy, over."

"Tequila Sunrise, copy, over."

"Boys, this is Big Bird. Tequila Sunrise, lead on plan Delta. Plan Delta, empty your LAG pods now, over!"

The two flanking walkers swiveled on tree-trunk legs and targeted... at first what seemed to be nothing, before--with a thunderous roar, the emptied their missile pods at...

The floor and ceiling of the immediate room.

At first the most obvious result would be to cause a cave-in, but as the ceiling began to peel away, it was obvious that the GUN rooms were only a shell in a much larger infrastructure. Vast chasms had been carved out above and below the rooms. The rooms themselves were only framed structures suspended in huge hydraulic cradles that had been designed to protect the installation from earth-quakes. As the shockwaves from the explosions shook the structure, the separate segments of the room the invaders were currently standing in began drifting apart with a scream of twisted metal.

The elevator shaft, still bedded firmly in the rock below and above, creaked menacingly as the chunk of room it was attached to began to drift. The floor between the elevator anteroom and the greater chamber buckled as--now revealed to be comprised of scaled flaps--the doorway between the rooms sheered and slid to accommodate the change.

In very little time, the rest of the floor between the walkers and the intruders had been reduced to shrapnel and pools of slag that littered the dark bedrock, far below.

"Retreat! Go go go go!"

The hot-shots began to lift into the air as the floor underneath them bent away dangerously. After a few errant twists, they turned their attention to the rest of the room's floor, and began destroying it with a horrifyingly cavalier approach to equipment. Cannons blazing, they shredded and vaporized anything that looked like it could be stood on or pushed off of, rapidly increasing the now massive gap between Tracer, Archer, and the Elevator on the one side, and the distant blast doors on the other.

Through an unfortunate turn of events, 2 of the hotshots survived the blast, and rained hot death on the floor and ceiling between the invaders and their destination. Archer backed away from the explosions and their shrapnel, hiding behind a a vertical rafter that extended out of the wall.

With a quick peek at the devastation, the floor was gone. Just what they needed, more delays. He ducked behind cover again, pulling out a 4 arrows, holding onto 3 of them as he armed one of them, he moved out of cover, raising his bow and pulling the string back as he took aim.

He released the arrow, with yet another unique arrowhead. It flew...not at either of the remaining walkers, but at the bolts that lined the edges of the armored door behind them. It exploded on impact, releasing a highly corrosive liquid to eat away at the bolt. He then quickly loaded the second arrow, firing at one of the remaining 3 bolts. Then the 3rd arrow, and finally the 4th.

Within a matter of seconds, all 4 bolts would be sizzling, and melting due to chemical breakdown. He ducked behind his cover again. Was he just going to wait for the acid to do it's thing, or was he just making it easier for Tracer to bring down the door?

Meanwhile, the walkers--still hovering some distance outside what was now exposed as a bunch of free-suspended boxes held together by universal joints. Were steadily moving outwards to flank the gap. The injured walker piloted by 'big bird', apparently the squadron leader, retreated past the end of the hall and moved onwards, away from the fight scene.

As it flew on to some distant destination, its engines illuminated other parts of the structure that had not previously been lit up. The exteriors of the rooms--far from being featureless metal skins, were in fact covered in gantries and pipes and service ducts, and as the full extend of the outside was revealed, it became quite apparent that anyone of a sufficiently determined mind could, with a little effort, traverse the whole structure without once setting foot inside it.
