Caz had trouble going to sleep for a while after they were introduced to the rooms they would be snoozing in. Not for a lack of trying, of course, and she already trusted Rock's security would be entirely solid if his living quarters were anything like its owner. But the very existence of a place where Halloween was eternal (and not nearly so safety-conscious as it ought to be) was unsettling in its own right. But when she finally drifted off into the realm of the sandman, she seemed well off enough.

...Until that tell-tale beep.

"Mm-euh!" she cried, very nearly falling out of her side of bed and on her face (but managed to catch herself in time). She blinked heavily and wearily, with those dry sort of sighs you give when you're still wiping the sleep out of your eyes, but one object managed to catch her attention through any grogginess, and that was the emergency light mounted in between their bed, and the empty one. (Ace had decided to keep the fact they could share a bed a secret to the newcomers.)

So with a wobbly stagger, she hopped out of bed in her PJ-pants and not-very-matching tanktop, and idly groped at the fixture in hopes of sliding her fingers along the "off" switch. It promptly fell off and hit the ground. And while she was busy scrambling to scoop it up, she paused, thinking she couldn't possibly have heard anything, but at the same time knowing she heard something. Something that sounded like... laughter.

Her eyes shot straight forward, and her brows became so flat you could balance a level on them. She scooped up the already flickering light, and pointed it towards the crack at the bottom of the door, trying to ignore any scary thoughts wriggling through her mind.

Though currently within the lounge at the moment Juneau had taken the time to familiarize himself with the basic layout of the location he was going to spend the night,well.. at least those their host considered 'public' access. Unlike the others whom mostly seemed new to the region Juneau had spent roughly a month within the region and wasn't entirely too concerned about spending another night nor the 'wow factor' of the region.

Instead he had since settled down in the lounge reading what seemed to be a book made of assorted scraps of various forms of paper, many of which seemed to be nothing more then smudges of charcoal at a glance. At least.. That's what he was doing prior to the dull hum below slowed to a crawl then died in sync with the lights. As the lights went out he simply exhaled a single sigh and softly closed the book and proceeded to tuck ti away in his satchel ".. interesting night indeed.... "

Meanwhile..If any one had entered the room within the last thirty minutes one would noticed an assortment of at least ten candy wrappers tied to whatever ceiling level points they could be attached to with varying lengths of string. While such in itself might seem odd.. it was perhaps even odder they were all fashioned in in the design of 'Tissue' ghosts, complete with eyes and a mouth scribbled on them with what seemed to be a glow in the dark blue crayon, which only just now would make it's glow apparent. At least another five were hung in the lobby by now as well with one made from a much larger now empty bag with the same logo imprinted on it as the smaller candy bars.

Whatever heebie-jeebies may have plagued the dreams and/or unrest of Rock's unusually full house, Jam was inversely complacent, having whiled away many a late night hour trying to cheat at eight ball, and cavorting with her creamy colored companion. When at last the time came to catch a few winks, she slept soundly.

Truly, neither the generator's descent into idleness, nor the emergency light or its heralding beep roused her. Shivering, she commandeered more comforter for her already disproportionate share, and turned onto her other side.

Mako was, at this point, face-down in a pillow on a couch in the lobby, having been unceremoniously left there by compatriots not wishing to deal with his sudden burst of energy. A burst which was, coincidentally, finally wearing off a touch.

He wasn't sleeping, no-- it hadn't entirely worn off yet, and in fact the winding down of the generator roused him. He lifted his head from the cushion, blinked a few times, came to the conclusion that he had gone blind, and then spied the emergency light.

The fish gave a dull noise that sounded like "gxlbltz", before he unceremoniously fell back onto the pillow.

And then he heard the laugh. He stood up, stretched out a bit, kicked his feet out from the couch, tried to stand up, fell over his tail... all procedure for Mako.
He felt his way to the nearest door that wouldn't lead outside and tapped it a few times, the phrase "turned into fish tacos" inexplicably running through his head.

A heavy snoring reverberated through the room, the hedgehog's body splayed across the bed carelessly. Already the sheets were ruffled greatly from their previously neat layout, scrunched up beneath the hedgehog on the far side of the bed. Yet, he slept soundly...

...that is, of course, till the muted laughter.

One eye cracked open, then another, Sheffer finding himself in near pitch black, save the emergency light. Giving a groan and his expression becoming one of frustration, he flipped to his other side to look at the door.

"...I'm going to kill Mako..." he muttered. "Laughing like a maniac in the middle of the night..."

Instead of attempting to fall back asleep, he decided to at least investigate what was up with the lighting system, the only light on not giving him any content.

Swinging his feet over the side of the bed, he fell drowsily on his feet, not seeming to notice the thin pieces of crystal that suddenly fell from his body due to the impact, falling to the ground silently along with a layer of greenish powder (this was becoming a pattern, it seemed.) Stifling a yawn, he made his way out of the room, making his way down the hall, blurry-eyed.

That's when he heard the griffin speak.

"Just me Sheriff," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes, green, crystallized grit falling from them. "Investigating what's going on with the lights... I'd presume they're supposed to stay on for a majority of the night. You know, to keep out the-" He paused for a moment, appearing to think it over, then giving a shrug. "...you know, keep out the ghosts. That is, if there are any actually here."

He sounded doubtful, but he thought of the glowing lights of the spires only hours before, a frown forming on his lips.

In the hallway, at the end, where the billiard room was located, a light was on. The only... warm light in the house, it was glowing and incandescent among the starkness of the emergency lamps. The billiard room door was ajar, and a golden finger of light stretched from the slightly open door, all the way down to the other end of the hall, warm and inviting. After a moment, anyone awake in the house would begin to hear the crackling of an old radio, and then… music.

Rock's half-lidded eyes stared emptily at the ugly ceiling, glowing with all that bluish-white light of the emergency lantern—the kind of light that's searing enough to irritate the eyes, but too worthlessly dim to really be all that useful outside of anything eight feet away.

He really didn't feel like getting up, but he knew they were seconds from experiencing all hell breaking loose, so he rooolled out of bed, slung his legs off the side of the mattress, planted his feet in his boots, and started quickly, but exasperatedly getting his essentials together.

"Wake up," he half muttered, half growled as he buckled the straps on his hefty footwear. "Some jackass cut the power."

If she didn't comply speedily enough to appease him, she'd soon have a blazing-bright halogen flashlight beam in her eyes to coerce her back to consciousness.

The raccoon hadn't been sleeping that night, and much like the griffon, he was hanging out in the kitchen in the wee hours of the morn. However, his reasoning was a bit different. He had two pieces of bread laid out on a paper towel on the counter, jelly and peanut butter jars opened on the counter, and was concocting the age-old classic: PB&J.

He pressed the pieces of bread together when the lights went out, and he heard laughter. He turned to Jack.

"...Did you hear..." He trailed off as she called for a response, "Of course you did." He continued and shook his head. He was almost hoping he was imagining it.

He followed her out, taking a couple steps before pausing...turning and grabbing his sandwich, and then continuing cautiously behind her.

"Sheffer." Jack said oftly to the hedgehog. "Shh. Do you hear...music?"

The griffin gave the raccoon an irritated look that was lost in the dim emergency lights. Jack walked slowly from the kitchen area and looked around carefully. The light from the billiard room wasn't lost on her, nor was the incomprehensibly creepy music coming from within. She waved Hoji to follow her as she approached the door, and pushed it open with one hand, the other held her weapon. If some sort of ...creature, got into the building she was going to remove it if at all possible.

She pushed the door open and stepped into the warm light her gun pointed at the ground but readied regardless. She didn't want to shoot Rock if this was some kind of creepy prank.

When the mole, still in her secluded room, was sufficiently satisfied that nothing was spooking about on the other side of her door, she wasn't quite sure what to do with herself, yet. Something was definitely happening, but exactly what... or even if it was a problem or not, remained a mystery to her.

She spared a glance to Ace.
Still practically dead asleep. His endeavors involved little more than scratching away at the empty space where Caz once lied, and settled on grabbing a pillow in her place. And while she found it adorable, it did little to alleviate her situation. As it was, she was just considering how she wouldn't want to disturb him when she heard strange sounds... A sort of boogie woogie music, being played.

'So', she thought to herself. 'Screw it'. She would investigate herself, emergency light in hand. She actually liked this kind of music, and as she delicately opened the door, and deliberately snuck out through the hallway, she wondered who in either of their groups could possibly share such outlandish taste. Certainly not the griffin. Maybe the tortoise...?

"ASDFFFFFFFFFFFFF--" is the closest textual approximation to the sound Jam made upon flailing upright in an alarmed stupor, as she obliged in extricating herself from the dark, warm safety of her bed with an overzealous roll culminating in the solid thump of flesh and bone versus negligibly padded concrete.

Though messy-furred, barely cognizant, and now sore, the simian girl was still surprisingly quick to her feet, which were promptly shoved into the nearest set of things to resemble footwear (which luckily turned out not only to be boots, but hers).

"'Cut the power,'" she repeated bemusedly with a furrowed brow, which quickly progressed to realization, and then dread. "Oh, balls."

Immediately, her shield erupted in a shower of sparks, perhaps intentionally blazing a little brighter than usual, as she asked clearly, "So what can the little bastards -- Do you hear that?"

As soon as Jack set a foot past the threshold of the door, the golden light…

Vanished.

With one last shrill blare of the trumpets, the music disintegrated, tailing off with a faintly insectile buzz. The echo of the music drifted around the hall, fading slowly away.

The room, in the barely visible light from the emergency lights out in the hall, was cold and bare. The pool table stood in the shadows like some tremendous, hunched creature. The elongated features of the room, like floor lamps or pool cues, reached up out of the cob-webby blackness, casting obscure and distorted shadows across the back wall.

In the silence, without so much as a sound, something appeared at the far end of the hall. Drifting gently around the corner from the kitchen, stretching from floor to ceiling like some hideous balloon, came a ghost.

Jack stood in the now dim doorway staring at the long shadows and the dark shapes in the room. Jack remained still for a long moment staring into the darkness. With a sigh she turned back out of the room holstering her weapon.

"... Jumpin at shadoow-" She cut off when she saw a something move in the kitchen, she crept towards the eerie shadow just as the ghastly form materialized.

"YAAAAAAHHH!" She yelled with a startled jump. Jack'd exceeded her tolerance levels for the bizarre and the down right creepy for the night, so she took off, bolting back the way she just came and into the billiard room. Which was no less eerie now then it was when she first looked.

"Yeah, I heard i-"

The primate opened his door to the hall just in time for Jack, standing right in front of it, to scream a curdling, bloody-murder scream of screams. And what did this guy named Rock, known for his steely nerves and fearlessness do?

Rocketed backwards, fell all over a nearby dresser, seized a drawer in mid-fall, and dumped it and its contents out all over himself in a failed attempt to stay upright.

Hey, even people who aren't afraid of much still have reflexes, and super night vision was nowhere to be seen on Rock's list of Impressive Stuff He Do.

"Sheeiiihhh..." hissed the monkey in an incomplete curse as quickly clambered to his feet, dresser drawer and assorted items clattering and clonking every which way as he pointed his flashlight out the door and began to approach it again. "The banshees must be new," he added. (At least Jack could later take some solace in the fact Rock didn't realize it was her who had screamed.)

Sheffer found himself smashed against the wall as Jack charged back in a hasty retreat, a bewildered look on his face as he watched her go. Needing to know what had caused such a reaction in the sheriff, he turned his head to face the opposite direction down the hall, seeing the floating, white being at the end of it.

"..."

He tilted his head and squinted, seeing if the 'ghost' was just a simple hallucination, caused by his still prevalent tiredness, but the thing remained where it was.

"...well I'll be damned."

Much unlike Jack's reaction, and actually finding the ghost's appearance seeming a bit... harmless at the moment, he stayed where he was. As it drew closer though, he began to realize the actual size of the thing, finding himself becoming swallowed in the large black orbs that stared down at him. It was taking some effort to maintain his composure, timidly stepping back away from the supernatural being.
