While the ex-officer wasn't surprised that the cat turned tail and ran, she was a little shocked the ferret let him. "Who's side is he even on?!" Jack wondered out loud running up the stairs after the feline. Unfortunately, she would find her answer in the form of smoke billowing into the stairwell from the hall. Jack was stunned for a moment, was that weasel even aware of the sort of fire hazard those things posed? Or the sort of public hazard the fire alarms and resulting evacuation of the building of this size would be? She had to shake off her disbelief and deal with the device before it filled whole floor with smoke and it set of the fire alarm. Jack whipped off her coat and used it to wrap up the burning hot device as smoke still billowed out of it. She ran down the hall, to a window at the far end where she dropped the grenade in front of it, drawing her weapon. Two shots spider webbed the widow enough that the kick she delivered to the device (and her coat) shattered it and sent the smoke grenade plummeting down the side of the building. Jack popped her head out the broken window to be sure it didn't hit anyone on the way down. Only to her surprise to see the grenade heading towards some kind of flying device with a monkey in it. "Aw shoot." |

With a nod to Casey and seeing no comments from others, Paxton continued. "Yeah. I rigged up a temporary solution to that problem last night during the concert, one that should last long enough to get us aboard the radar ship and take it over, thereby disabling Chimera's major radar systems in this area and gaining an effective means of travel for ourselves. The only issue is securing air transportation to get us all the way up there." "So, what, we're gonna steal a plane? I ain't good with flying," the wolverine protested. "Um...no...well, maybe?" The dog shrugged. "I'm not sure yet. I've been put in touch with someone in the local police force who will be assisting us. I'm not sure what their plan is yet, but we'll find out as soon as we meet them. As soon as Jack and Desmond get back, we'll fill them in and we can leave. This operation is happening tonight, so we have all day to prepare ourselves." Tyra tapped at the table she was leaning on with a distinctly displeased look on her face. "I'm really not good with flying..." she muttered to herself. |

Needless to say, even in a huge city, and even up on the 95th or so floor of a skyscraper hotel, firing shots, shattering a huge plate-glass window, and sending a spewing smoke grenade streaming down through the whipping winds, and through the midst of VTOL air traffic, where it could bust straight through a passing vehicle's windshield, was enough to get some attention. A police VTOL down below immediately flipped on the red-and-blues, banked and turned hard, and made a beeline climb for the window, sirens blaring.Mie and Greens had a planned (and very story-important) interaction, so we hafta shield them from violent interruptions for just a little longer so the sequence can finish (a post or two if they're quick), or else things will turn out... very different [maybe grim] for them, in an unintended way. Sorry, Rach. I think we can still make this funny in the long run, though. |

Both of Jam's electrified hands were met with both of Caz's immediately pursed lips in conjunction with her raised brows. For a moment, she seemed to be at a loss for words while the monkey girl was throwing a tantrum on her own control panel, before following a pair of awkward blinks with a meek utterance of "Oh, I said something bad, didn't I." All the while, one could faintly hear a keycard being haphazardly manhandled into the hotel room door behind them. "Caz!" "Gyaaugh!" And who could it have been but Ace himself, looking rather flustered and harried-- not only from hauling butt from the roof to his room, but from being caught off guard by Caz's cry of being caught off guard. "Sorry," he said, both palms raised while the mole slowly dropped her frying pan from its 'attack' position. "But we gotta get outta here kinda now, and-- ...Jam?" Of course between the two of them, Caz didn't know what the hell was going on. Her line of vision shifted back and forth between the two with a steadily growing expression of palpable whelm. |

With one hand on the yoke, and one on the throttle rod, Jam had been literal milliseconds from all but exploding off into the hazy morning sky, only to hesitate at Caz's strangled cry of alarm. Upon seeing the cause of it, Ace was severely lucky that a hundred-thirty foot drop stood between Jam and swift, tingly retribution, but it still didn't stop her from heading in that direction. "You unbelievable bast-hrurk!!" With the rage blinders firmly in place, she lunged for the cat, but nearly choked against the restraint of her seatbelt, which she then couldn't for the life of her get enough slack from to successfully unbuckle it. The ensuing grunting, obscenity-filled struggle was inappropriately hilarious. "...ddamn retarded -- UGH! Stupid-- If I were try'na mole for GUN, I'd be getting the f**k out of my face before I fry yours off, Crawford." |

Now it was Ace's turn to be not only confused, but pressured in a way he didn't need to be. "Mole for GUN?" he asked, almost offended by the prospect. "Woa-- settle down, Jam! Wh't the hell're you talkin' about?" "...I'm not in GUN..." |

The monkey's infuriating struggle with her safety restraint took a backseat to a suddenly frigid, beady-eyed glare. "Don't patronize me, Ace! I know that you were just upstairs rubbing elbows with GUN brass after feeding Rock a bunch of bulls**t about wanting to make up last night!" |

Ace echoed her words incredulously, pronouncing each syllable wholly and thoroughly as his brows veered dangerously close to his mouth. "Rubbing elbows? What?" "Wh-- that's not... Ace, that's not what you were doing up there, is it?" "No!" he blurted, almost immediately. "Goddamn-- look, I dunno whatever your Chimera intelligence is telling you, but GUN are the last people I'd ever get buddy-buddy with, alright? Pax called everyone for a meeting with a mission offer, I refused, and now I got a pissed-off griffin and a weasel with about fifty grenades he doesn't know how to use trailing my ass right now!" "...Grenades!?" |

Oh a cop! Jack was a little surprised to see one so close but she didn't miss a step. "Officer! Help!" She yelled with a wave out the broken window as if there was any doubt he could see her. "There's some crazy blonde weasel in tights runnin' around throwing grenades! he's gotta have 'bout a dozen strapped to 'im!" It was a basic description but somehow Jack doubted there would be many guests in the building running around like that. |

Though Avatar had been focusing more on the whole ordeal with Ace, the mention of taking over a Chimera-owned plane snapped the piranha's attention back towards Pax. "We get to take-over a Chimera-Owned ship?" Avatar echoed in disbelief. Her voice was practically shaking with excitement as a large smile grew on her face. She had never been in a plane before, and she had never been a part of an assault on a military. In her mind, Avatar was jumping up and down clapping her hands together like a 6-year-old girl who just got a pony for her birthday. |

"Chimera intelligence, my ass!" was Ace's expectorated reply. "As much as you'd apparently like to believe otherwise, I function independently of Chimera; I came of my own damn volition to see how much you might'a let slip before the Rock-and-Jam-are-power-hungry-war-mongers scene got a little too hipster for you." No longer trying to get at the serval's vital organs, Jam sat back in her seat (apparently resigned to stay in it), fixing the feline with a muddled look of indignation and rage, with a subtle tinge of nausea. Eventually, her narrowed eyes swiveled forward, and she stared at her windshield as though it had committed some disgusting, grievous offense against her, while both hands seemed keen on attempting to strangle the yoke. "You're just... pissing everybody off, today," groused the monkey, looking illustratively irritated, herself. Begrudgingly, she looked back at the pair, and, with an air not unlike agreeing to have a limb amputated, she said, "S**t. Get in." |

"I have a knack for that, it seems," begrudged the serval. His baby blues went to only actual mole in the room, with a nudge in Jam's direction. "C'mon Caz, it's not safe here anymore." "Ho, man, I don' even know what's goin' on..." The poor girl could already feel her head pounding in the midst of all this side-taking madness. She flinched at the order, but wasted no more time climbing into the primate's modified Egg-pod, even as she questioned what was going on (and perhaps rightly so). "WaitamI gonna fit with you two...?" "W'll I ain't about to leave you here!" Ace squawked, hurriedly shoving her in from behind. "These things were made to fit one whole Dr. Eggman, I think we'll be fine-- just scooch over a little. C'mon, ladies first." "I'm c'moning!" Through some small miracle, it only took a handful of seconds for all three of them to fit in. All that was left was for 'Team Chimera' to blast off. |

"A Chimera-owned airship," echoed Casey. The hog looked pleased enough with the situation—at least to be a guy who was just punched in the crotch some thirty seconds prior. "Just don't expect it to be easy. We may all hafta do some scary things, but it's in our best interests." Oddly, he looked to Tyra more than the others as he said that. "We'll get to go over the specifics soon enough, anywho." |

"Yeah, we'll go over the info soon enough. We should get moving, pronto, because we have to do this today." With that began the process of moving everyone off the roof and out of the hotel, out to wherever the discussed mission needed them to go. But Paxton had lingered behind, assuring them that he would only need a quick moment to himself. As the last elevator door pinged as it closed and sent the last members of the group down, the agent made his way back to the seating area on the roof, a sense of dread building inside of him as he sat down in one of the many chairs. Reaching into his pocket, he withdrew a heavy, durable radio transceiver, and set it upon the metal table in front of him on its base, small black antenna sticking straight up. His hands hesitantly flicked a switch on the side, and the radio emitted a faint crackle. Taking a breath to steel himself, he leaned forward and spoke into it, "This is Agent Gardyner, code eight-one-eight-eight-A-seven, requesting contact with Lieutenant Turnbull." There wasn't an immediate response. The short waiting period did not alleviate the tension Pax felt whenever he had to report in; especially in these circumstances. Just when he was about to send out a second transmission, the device spoke back. "This is Lieutenant Turnbull. What is your status?" The voice was female, but low, utterly flat, and with a slight rasp to it, worsened by the faint static that accompanied it through the radio. It was a voice he'd had to hear many times, but there was some element to it that made his skin crawl a bit. "The situation went...mostly well," the canine responded with uncertainty; it did not feel like the whole truth when he said it. "Most of the group agreed to sign up for the mission, so we will--" "Most?" Turnbull cut him off sharply. It almost sounded like a hiss, but maybe it was only the transceiver's doing. Pax frowned as he found himself thinking of how to reply. "Crawford rejected it...and immediately fled to...join up with Lochert..." Truth be told, Gardyner hardly knew Ace. They'd only met literally yesterday. Yet in that little time, the serval had seemed like a plainly decent guy. To see him immediately run off to join him confused the canine. Having to say it out loud with his own voice just made the situation all the more discomforting to him. Especially when he had to wait for Turnbull's response, which was taking longer than he expected it would, heightening the sick feeling Pax had in his stomach as he sat there on the quiet rooftop alone. "...I see," came from the radio after what may have been a full minute of silence. "Very well. You know what to do then." Paxton raised an eyebrow as he heard this. He asked, nervous over what he expected her reply would be, "Um, beg your pardon, sir?" "If Crawford gets in your way, eliminate him. I'm updating the files now; he is a registered enemy of GUN and member of Chimera as far as we are concerned--as far as you are concerned, Gardyner." The way she spoke of such things with unemotional coldness did absolutely nothing to reassure the agent. "S-sir," he protested, "I'm not sure if that would be, er, necessary if--" "It is absolutely necessary, Gardyner. You cannot afford to maintain a sense of mercy. Under these circumstances, it is only a disadvantage--one that the enemy does not share. If you truly wish to perform your duty and make it through this, then remember this: it is either us, or them. And Gardyner...it must be us. Do you understand?" The gray dog's lips tightened around his teeth, unsure of how to respond, still processing his superior's words. Every sentence she spoke made his fingers dig tighter into his knees. "The mission will proceed as planned. This is vital to our recovery, Gardyner. There is no room for error. Do not hold back, because they won't. Do your job. Turnbull out." The black radio was silent. Now Paxton was truly alone on the roof. It would be silent if it weren't for the voices ringing in his head. For a while, all he could do was lean back in his seat and stare up into the sky. It was still blue, still clear, with the sun cheerfully beaming down on the whole city. It almost gave him a headache, seeing the contrast between his environment and himself. Pax wondered what the weather would be like if it reflected how his gut felt. "Typhoons and tornadoes, probably..." he mumbled to himself. Speaking seemed to jar him out of it enough. With a sigh, the dog leaned forward again and grabbed the radio from the table, replacing it in his vest as he rose from his seat and headed for the elevators. There was work to be done, no time to worry about such things. |
