It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.
Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.
I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.
I love you guys. God bless.

The dull, grey, boxy-shaped hovering van hummed its way down the street. The vehicle had been checked out to them for that last assignment, and, Rock being himself, it had not been returned, and probably wouldn't be returned for as long as he could possibly get away with it. What important business was it being used for now? Emergency taco run. As fun and irresponsible of an occasion as it was, though, Rock seemed rather sober about it all. "So...," murmured the white primate between crunching bites as he unblinkingly ran a red light, "yeah. Not sure how to feel about all'a this."The screeching tires behind their whooshing vehicle yielded little more than a blink from the passenger's seat. With an obnoxiously loud slurp of an emptied plastic vat of Cherry Hilltop Drop, Jam cast a troubled frown to her left, while fishing for taco number five in the bag between the front seats.
"Little late t'be gettin' cold feet," mused the monkey, unusually grim. "Might've wanted to do that like... before you handed over Agent Boobjob to the feds."Rock blinked and looked at Jam sideways.
"What?"
...
"Oh, no," he said with the clear-cut relief of a sudden and clear realization. "I mean... this in-vitro lab-grown taco meat product."
Pause.
He took another bite."Oh."
There was a brief flurry of blinks filling a momentary pause wherein Jam, too, examined her own partially eaten manufactured-meat product.
"Meh."
And then promptly disregarded whatever hang-ups might have been troubling Rock with a shrug, charmingly shoving the remaining three quarters of tortilla, meat and cheese into her maw in one fell swoop.
With a nonchalance that troublingly inferred habit, she wadded up the felled wrapper, and tossed it over her shoulder (it may or may not have hit the large, paper sombrero-wearing robot behind her).
"Anifigh cnuh beh dishgufting issue sthink aboud i' too mush," she oh, so poignantly reflected.Rock lulled his head as if to silently agree. Meanwhile, ahead of them, the raised freeway ran out of road and dropped about twenty stories straight into the crowded city streets below. The fine workmanship of Eggman Empire infrastructure in action!
This was either already becoming routine, or just well within Rock's comfort zone. As they drove off the end of the road, he throttled up the thrusters, stabilized the van, and found the time to play with the radio's volume knob on the way down, too. Apparently, a DJ's voice piqued his interest."Hello neighbor, and welcome back to W.E.G.G. station number one-hundred-and-twenty-two, where we play music, and you occasionally listen to it. That was 'My Robot Heart' by P. Shortino.""That's— that's Caz, idn't it?" questioned Rock. Jam nodded fervently in agreement, but said nothing as she leaned forward to listen."Now, I'm sure all of you've all heard from the other some-four-hundred near-identical radio stations that the one and only Sonic the Hedgehog has reportedly been spotted in the Gigalopolis area. We are assured this is not yet another spiky-haired wannabe trying to make a name for himself and winding up probed on a lab table for his trouble. We've got the real deal here, folks. So just in case you've forgotten, he is officially described as... 'forest green, covered in... pants and diamonds, and standing at least, six feet tall.'"
"Hhhhhhgod.""That's... Hawkins," sighed the redder of the primates, shaking her head. It wasn't a question; it was just immensely depressing to know that she was a part of it all~"Of course, this 'Sonic the Hedgehog' is heavily armed and extremely dangerous. If you have any information whatsoever pertaining to this heinous individual," she started reading it as if checking off the more monotonous tasks on her daily to-do list and this was clearly not the first time, "Please inform the proper... ...Egg-thorities as quickly as possible."
The muted thump of what sounded like someone's forehead slamming upon a desk could be heard."Please avoid reporting to any known or unknown resistance forces. If you do, please present yourself to the nearest Eggman Immurement Center and await detainment."
Paper could be heard being rapidly crumpled in the microphone's vicinity.
"Thank you, ladies and gentlemen," she said, pronouncing 'thank you' in the same way one might say 'please kill me.' "Now back to our regularly mandated entertainment. This next bunch of songs has abandonment issues. You don't have to listen to it, but could you really live with yourself if you didn't?"And with that, the music took over once again. With a punctuated *Click!*, the radio (but alas, not the DJ) was put out of its misery. Jam leaned back in her seat, allowing the broadcast to percolate for a half-beat before raising her brows in the driver's direction, and, laden with implication, asked, "I think Caz's more suited to field work, don't you?""Maybe," replied Rock as their van touched down (see: crunched down with a shower of sparks) on top of a bus, scorched its roof with its thrusters, then dropped the rest of the way to the pavement, only to wheel around in a wide, swooshing u-turn that ultimately sideswiped a parked Cop Speeder into a glass storefront.
"Oh, she will be happy to hear we didn't get Ace killed," he added about as cheerily as he ever said anything. "Yet." searchindextag chapter4search

Sometime later, in Starlight City...
Studio 7B.
The place was uncommonly... normal for an Eggman operation. In truth, it was just a straight-up, plain office building that had been taken over by Eggman's propaganda operations. Very little had been done to it besides plastering posters, insignias, and banners here and there. The actual place itself remained entirely, boringly normal, with bluish carpet, white walls, wood fixtures... Like every other office building. And, the sturdy door to Studio 7B within that building looked just as it always had, replete with little "ON-AIR" sign illuminated next to it.
That door swung open and couple familiar primate visitors, clad in crimson uniforms, poked in for a peek through the big, soundproof glass window to the DJ on the other side.

"--So how 'bout this; Heads, we go to commercial. Tails, we'll play more music!"
Still clad in her low-ranking (and dreadfully unfashionable) grey Eggman uniform, the ivory mole leaned forward nonchalantly. A small coin was placed on the desk in front of the mic she spoke into, and spun it loud enough to be heard.
And she pressed the break time button before it even landed.
Caz deflated into her lowbacked wheelie-chair and stared into space, and seemed content to do so for at least a few more seconds... until something caught her eye. A flash of pink. A glimpse of white. Just enough attention was captured for her to roll her head in its direction.
If her eyes were pulled any wider, she might've exposed part of her skull.
The mole sprang up in her seat like she just realized she was sitting on a tack, gripping at the armrests with her hands. She blinked, unsure of what she was supposed to do in the situation, before throwing reason to the wind in favor of freaking out, and if there was ever any doubt of the window's sound-proofedness, they were laid to rest when the door was flung open.
"--YGOD, OH MY GOD, OOOHHH MY GOSH! Guys! It's-- Ah!"
She actually seemed really uncertain of how to handle herself for a bit, suddenly beaming, almost running in place in front of the two of them before finally throwing her arms around the pinker of primates in a fit of joy.
Really, how could they not see this coming?
"You're aLIIIiiiive...!"

It would have been difficult to name the expression Jam had flashed to Rock upon seeing the mole's initial reaction to their presence. When Caz flew shouting out of the booth, however, and proceeded to maul the redder of the primates with elated affection, the look was irrefutably bemused, bewildered, and slightly terrified all at once. After much apparent deliberation, the embraced monkey awkwardly patted the shoulder most convenient to her, and, casually as possible, pried herself free.
"Uh! Yeah," Jam agreed, keen to get away from potentially emotional "I thought you were all dead" clichés. "Yeah, we are. We just uh, took a wrong turn at the dimensional tear in fabric of space , but I'll spare you the nitty gritty; we figured it out."
"But anyway!"
"Me, Rock and Tau were out on a taco ru-- I mean, uhhhh, doing legit tyranny," Fidget, cough, cough. "When we heard you on the pictureless-tube, so we thought we'd drop in on our new coworker."

Though he genuinely smiled, Rock chose to just stand by quietly and nod in acknowledgment for the moment, hands resting on the fabric of tied-off red sleeves around his waist.

The mole took a step or two back, happy to simply acknowledge their presence as Jam explained things. "Ghawd," she finally assessed. "...Dang! I jus'..." She shook her head lightly. "Hyou gotta... just gimme a sec. This changes a lot, s'all." She held her palms up as if to halt their non-existent advance, but she really just needed a moment for things to sink in. And she did sink, or rather plop, into a chair held against the wall. She gazed at the two of them in an astonishment she was clearly doing her best to subdue, and exhaled a long puff of air as she sorted her thoughts.
Finally, one stood out above the others.
"...Where's Ace?" Blink. "...Is he okay?"

"He's alright," stated Rock, stone-faced in his omission of the fact that last they saw him he had been nearly impaled by a piece of rock. "He didn't accept the job offer, though."
He silently tapped at the plastic ID hanging from his belt.

When the subject came to their missing striped party member, as Jam knew it inevitably would but hoped it wouldn't, the comfort level took a dip, and she stalled negligibly by clearing her throat as she looked beseechingly to Rock.
Thankfully, he didn't need to be asked to be the bearer of bad news, but Ace's reported status of "alright" earned him a quirked brow. Jam was quick to discard it, however, composing an appropriately unhappy expression by the time she turned back towards Caz.

"Oh, thank God," she answered simply, closed her eyes, and leaned her head back, as a wave of relief washed over her. If she felt any active disappointment in his not being there, she didn't show it-- she was plenty happy learning, that after nearly three month's worth of wordless absence, her partner was still alive. "Oh, thank God..."
Caz leaned forward and exhaled again, this time with her eyes open and alert. Her head was in a constant state of soft nodding, something she did to help herself think in times when much thinking needed to be done. Behind her orange-tinted glasses, there was a familiar sting in her eyes, but she didn't show it. "...Okay," she finally said, nodding more strongly, as if in actual agreement rather than habit. "Alright, no, okay... I get that. ...I get that."
She sniffed. ...And then she chuckled.
"Of course the first job offer he got would be from the good doctor," she said with a shake of her head, eerily mirroring the serval's own words on the matter. And one small sigh later, the subject seemed to be dropped, or at least for the time being. "S-so... what're you guys doing now? Keeping the peace? Hedgehog hunting?"

As usual, while Jam's face was colored with concern and about ten different tells, Rock looked unreadable, maybe even a little serene with that hint of a smile at Caz's relief.
"We're supposedly assigned to some sort of salvage and recovery department," explained Rock doubtfully. "No actual jobs yet, though... The robots just call us to respond to emergencies like some kind'a grunts."

Not one to break protocol, Jam's reaction may as well have been scrawled across her face; her relief at Caz's relief left little to uncertainty, and with a cautious smirk, her tension gradually dissipated.
"Yup," added the garishly red girl with a roll of her eyes. "Real important goon work, y'know."
After flopping unceremoniously against the door frame, both her tail and the corner of Jam's mouth quirked, indicating nothing less than snarky mischief on the horizon.
"Still, I guess it could be worse..." she mused loftily, sauntering toward the seated mole with a couple of jibing elbows to the arm. "We could be stuck in grey, chained to a desk all day, or something."

"Ough, you have no i-dea," she answered, lolling her head back into her seat. "This used to be a really fun gig! We'd choose our own music, put on our own radio shows, and have more than one person on the job at a time. Now it's like... I dunno. I'm a robot or something."
"ROSALES!" A gravelly roar put through an electric sounding filter tore through the room via loudspeaker. Caz cringed visibly.
"I'M NOT PAYING YOU TO LOLLYGAG WITH YOUR AMIGOS."
"It's a commercial break, sir," she shouted across the room. "We still have five minutes!"
"I DON'T GIVE TWO HALVES OF A HOOT AND HOLLAR! IF YOU'RE NOT MAKING YOURSELF USEFUL, WE'RE LOSING VALUABLE PROFITS!"
"Yes, sir."
It wasn't even all the way across the hall that the two unfamiliar primates could identify the source of the racket. The room nearest, built almost entirely out of windows, showed a full view of an angular, wiry looking humanoid robot, chomping menacingly on his electric cigar and wriggling his synthetic mustache in distaste at the three of them. Using the loudspeaker was entirely unnecessary-- he wasn't more than three yards away.
The mole girl glanced back at her friends with a seething sort of smile. "That's B.B.," she explained. "He's a new addition too." She stood up, and beckoned them a little further, out of sight of her micro-managing taskmaster. "Here, let's go pretend to rethread the projector, or something."

Though Rock's eyes squinted a wince in loving memory of his now-impaired hearing, he naturally didn't seem quite as worried about Boss Bot as Caz did.
"'Ey, wait—better idea," he offered, holding a hand out in a sort of relaxed hold up motion, with one brow raised. "Why not ditch this here, uh, fine establishment, and come with us, y'know? New gig." He smiled in that very muted, relaxed way he normally did and set his hands on his sides again. "Whatchu think?"

"Wh--" she paused, her expression implying a multitude of conflicts and answers she was already going over in her mind with every passing second. "...C-can you do that? Some kinda, transfer? I mean, ImeanI'd love to, that would be awesome, but... could I? Transfer?"

"On an official, reflected-in-your-paygrade level?" Jam prefaced, her nose and mouth scrunching thoughtfully off to one side. "Dunno. But, Rock invited you, and you got legs and free will, so..."
With a punctuating shrug of both her shoulders and eyebrows, the reddish monkey buoyantly strolled out of the studio. Humming obnoxiously, she deliberately passed by B.B.'s open office door to offer the metal micro-manager an asinine smile and twiddle of her fingers in parting, continuing right on toward the building's exit.
