Sheffer could truthfully say he was sick of water by this point. First it had tried to sweep him away, then he nearly found his grave surrounded by it in a monorail car. Now, their only way forward happened to be a hall flooded with the stuff, and not nice, warm ocean water. This looked cold and murky; a perfect habitat for a horror-film sea monster.

Disregarding the thought of their mysterious antagonist possibly getting the same idea and placing something suitable within the water to that description, the hedgehog quite literally marched straight into the depths, sinking into the cool water. The underwater base was becoming tiring, and if Hoji's beacon's frantic beeping was correct, their emerald hunt would be quickly be over if they just kept on moving. And if that forced the hedgehog to trudge through a flooded hallway, so be it. He was already soaked as it is.

Soon neck deep in the water, he took a small glance back to the rest of the group, motioning with his head down the hall, beckoning for anyone else who was willing to join him. He then focused on the task of slowly walking through the resistance of the water, avoiding the floating barrels as well.

Tank remained silent all the while as they approached their latest destination, his superhero-scowl alleviated only by a brief, wordless expression of "yikes" when the sheriff advertised her spite to the camera behind them. Regardless, he tread onward, shifting suspicious glances towards every corner of the room that he deemed worthy of them.

Not to say he was entirely preoccupied with regarding things as 'too quiet', for while his hearing wasn't quite acute enough to recognize the mysterious stranger they probably should have been following, he easily noticed the hedgehog's frustration in dealing with water. So, with brief (read: virtually non-existent) consideration, and being such a nice guy after all, he outright plucked Sheffer right out from the water and carefully planted him on his shoulders, wading through the water with step after step.

Mako looked as though he was going to remark on Jack's behavior, and then the mysterious splashing in the distance, before he looked at the murky water, and both thoughts were derailed.

"Ew."

He gingerly stepped in, and after a few heavy steps, sighed resignedly and lifted his feet up. He swam, of course, but hardly more than a doggy paddle, kept up by his tail... and very careful to keep his head above the surface, gill slits flattened, so to ensure that nothing got into his body by seeping in backwards. Hopefully, nobody would all victim to Mako's usual clumsiness and trip over the fish's large tail. He didn't even want to know what could be in this stuff, knowing where they were.

"Let's, uh, hop to it, yeah?"

Badge continued into the flooded corridor with little hesitation. He was already wet as it is, and his suit's reaction to being soaked was best left to the imagination. He did glance back at the others, and noted a couple of individuals' reluctance to surround themselves with water of questionable cleansliness, but continued on.

And the further in he got, the louder his helmet beeped at him.. A hand emerged from the water to smack the side of his helmet.

"Ugh..this thing is driving me insane..."

He grumbled, and subconsciously quickened his pace.

Tank's powerful legs could still feel the resistance of the water as he purposefully advanced onward, but it was all the more reason for he to push more forward with every step. He heeded the environment as he moved on, and made a mental note to breath through his mouth for a little while longer.

"Con-seedur it motivashun," he advised lowly, but did a quick mental double take as he speculated on just what he meant. "Badge... e'satcly how closs do you theenk we are getting...?"

As they drew nearer to the corridor's junction, the amount of damage done to the area seemed increased. Conduits had been ripped loose from the ceiling, and hung down to the water, but thankfully, electricity to them seemed to be long shut off. Overhead lights were similarly busted and off.

And as for Wild Badge's annoying beeping? It was actually exaggerated by the fact that there was an audible beep coming from ahead, not just in his helmet. Someone or something was there, and had clearly arrived ahead of them (as if they couldn't figure that out already). Without further ado, he finally made his presence known; when they reached the junction in the submerged hall, the voice came from their left, effectively answering Tank's question. They had arrived.

"Don't come any closer. Not 'til I know who you are."

Definitely not Eggman. It was a very young sounding voice, and also pretty calm, to the point of not even sounding very hostile. "You people are here to steal the emerald, aren't you?—Who do you work for? GUN? ... Eggman?"

It was hard to make things out too clearly in the poor lighting, but the person confronting them was standing in front of an open door, located at the top of a short staircase that emerged from the water some distance ahead. He was silhouetted by some bluish ambient light coming from the room behind him; it was enough to reveal that he looked like a human kid.

Jack hadn't any issues makeing it through the hall. Her ability to fly kept only her boots in the questionable water, but when they where told to stop she started to drift forward, canting her head at the shadowy figure in the distance.

"A human? I'm Sheriff Jack Clarke. We don't work for anyone. We're survivers from the Yella Desest insadent lookin' to stop Eggman from doin' it again. Who the hell'er you?" She said, not really the most diplomatic way to deal with this, but Jacks hand was already resting on her gun and she wouldn't have a problem useing it as she'd managed to keep it and most of herself dry through out the trip.

"Sherliff, pleece!" Tank beckoned quietly. Her itchy trigger finger did not go unnoticed, and while he appreciated her eagerness, one fact rose above all else: "Eet ees bot a chaiyuld." He took one cautious step forward himself (quite possibly still carrying Sheffer on his bulging shoulders, and attempted to smooth down the sandpaper introduction.

"Hwe cohm off ourl own accord. Hwe do not bare any eel weel-- hwe only seek to prleserve peace. Aye onderlstand that these emeralds arle the source off moch conflict. Do you bearl one, yourself?"

He eyed them all suspiciously, but his focus kept falling on the gun-toting griffin, who hovered so precariously in the cramped space between the surface of the water and the low ceiling. The lens covering his eye glowed with a display of some sort, unreadable from the others' perspective, but still clearly composed of some sort of text and photos.

"Nnnot yet," he answered truthfully enough (as Badge's sensor could confirm, the gem wasn't on the kid). "... Not that I'd hand it over even if I did," he added with an increasingly wry sneer, his gaze again landing on Jack. "—Knowing what this very angry lady likes to do with them, anyway. Was bulldozing your own town not enough for you?"

"That... is inaccurate."

Badge chimed in when the boy accused Jack of destroying her hometown to get to the emerald, not entirely sure if he was simply trying to get a rise out of her or if his news reel was just rife with missing details. He stepped forward to add to the conversation.

"This angry lady," He repeated with a glance to the griffin, as if paranoid that she'd attempt to hit him, "Didn't have time to do much of anything with the emerald before Eggman showed up. The incident itself was accidental on all accounts. Nonetheless, our goal is simply to secure the emeralds so he can't use them in whatever his plans are..."

He crossed his arms over his chest, eyeing the boy from behind his visor.

"Now you know why we're here. Why are you? This base was supposed to be abandoned."

Their new mystery guy visibly rolled his eyes at Badge's explanation, looking entirely disbelieving.

"Okay, y'know what, I— I just can't even do this anymore," he blurted huffily with a sigh and a slouch, his tone growing yet more... insufferably obnoxious by the second. He began to back toward the threshold of the doorway. "I was gonna play dumb, but, seeerrriously—I know you furballs are supposed to be more brawn than brains, but do I really have to spell it out?"

He stopped, straightened up, head held high, and looked down at the still-swamped-and-submerged group.

"I'm here to take the emerald, and I'm gonna put it in the right hands, away from 'Eggman,' and away from you. Here, let's turn the lights on so I can draw you a diagram."

In response to his voice, there was a vivid flash of sparks. The torn-out conduits hanging from the ceiling were remotely activated by someone or something, sending untold amounts of electricity into the water, while the overhead lights strobed and flickered. It wouldn't last long at all before the breaker tripped, but it was enough to make the water near the cables bubble and steam.

Sheffer almost gave out a yelp as he received a jolt in his still submerged legs, quickly pulling them up onto the high sanctuary of the turtle's shoulders. Whatever gratitude he had felt for the reptile beneath him now tripled, having escaped the electric danger by only a few inches.

Getting over his shock, which he had received in, quite literally, both ways, he threw a glare up to the kid at the top of the stairs. The guy had been bumped up from mysterious annoyance to a more lofty position at hostile bastard. The only people Sheffer could at least call acquaintances were now probably being fried in the water, and that wasn't just going to be easily shrugged off right now.

Balancing himself on Tank's shoulders (the turtle's condition at the moment was still unknown), a layer of crystal began to rapidly spread across the hedgehog's body. The last thing Sheffer was planning on was sitting tight until the electricity subsided, his sights already set on the kid. Once he was encased up to his neck in the green-tainted rock, and, against his better judgement, jumped right into the water, hitting with a large splash as his feet immediately sunk to the bottom.

Fortunately for him, his quick thinking turned in his favor, not feeling one spark from the water, his shell of rock proving to be a simple shield against the electricity. Silently praising the success, he began to trudge forward as fast as possible, the crystal having slowed him down a bit. As he reached the stairs, he looked up to the kid, his eyes glinting with malice, starting to climb.

Mako may have been about to make a comment about "Hey, me and Power Mask aren't furry", but that was derailed, very quickly, by an exclamation:

"SWEET MAMMA JAMMA!"

Whatever that meant.

Seeing that Sheff had gone rock-tastic on them, it was at this point that the shark leapt towards and onto Tank's back in the stead of the hedgehog, for no other reason than because he was the first way he could think of to avoid being completely submerged, and with no regard for the state of the tortoise. Scrambling up, and keeping as little of his body as he could so much as near the water, he yelled:

"NOT! COOL!"

Jack's hands balled into fists and she almost lunged towards the boy but yet more people stepped into her way. Badges glance towards her was met with seething hatred. Normally she wouldn't be so easy to rile but this boy...

And then the obnoxiousness came out in full effect. The electricity hit her boots and her her legs jerked up out of the water, but the sudden lurch didn't do much to say, keep her airborne. Jack fluttered madly to try and save herself quickly drawing her gun and stuffing it under her hat grabbing its brim and holding onto it for dear life just before she splashed into the water. The new surge sucked a whole bunch more then the first. By the time it subsided she was supporting herself with the wall, all of her hair and feathers sticking up and out in weird angels.

"I'm gonna kill'im." She snarled and started pulling herself through the water, her wings flapping trying to right her feathers and get airborne again. "I'm gonna shoot'im in both legs. Den 'lectro-kyute 'im."

"Ashashashashhh assshhh asha sha, sha, sha, sha-"

Ah yes, the call of the electrified tortoise. A brow certainly quirked at the child's emphasis on turning on lights, but by the time he realized what was happening, it was already happening. For the moment, there seemed... little he could do but stand there and take it like no other could, chattering nonsense as his muscles convulsed just enough to keep him standing upright. He did find some comfort in the fact that he was still helping his crew, but, not very much, considering he was still being fried and all.

Of course, this didn't stop him from somehow and suddenly glaring daggers at the aggressor, even through his jittering eyelids.
