It pains me to say this, but we're done. Thank you to those who have participated and followed along these many years. We had a lot of fun, and your contributions will be remembered for a long time to come.

Strangers and visitors of the future, please respect what is ours. If there is anything in the form of writing or rules you'd like to borrow for your own RP, please e-mail me on the gmail account "onsoku" for permission. Chances are I'll grant it if you are a nice, intelligent person, and agree to just a few small stipulations regarding proper crediting method. But please, leave our characters alone. All fan-made, original, non-SEGA characters, character art, and concepts remain property of their respective creators. Please show respect and don't try to take any of them for your own use.

I hope that some of us will be able to move on and have some more fun writing hobbies in the future. No matter what, we'll stay in touch, and this group will live on, even if it has nothing to do with RP.

I love you guys. God bless.

(Continued from this thread in the United Federation forum.)

The road was dark, and the inside of the van was even darker. There was something... especially peaceful about that calm after the battle—the gentle, orange glow of the radio clock (2:35a), the quiet, commercial-free late-night radio, the hum of the engine, the whoosh of blacktop under tires... The cloudy night sky gave little light to see by, and street lights were few and far between, leaving little to disturb the occupants. The plain, white vehicle was actually mostly alone on the long, four-lane stretch of highway that composed the northwest portion of Route 99, not far west of Spring City's outskirts. The brightest thing around was a modest (see: ill-maintained) billboard advertising Zippy Rick's Pizza Emporium.

"This is it," said Rock, with the whispery rattle of a drowsy voice. "Off the road here, behind that sign."

The rental van lurched and bounced, its overtaxed suspension creaking as it steered off the shoulder and made its way down a smooth, grassy slope. If anyone was asleep, that would be the wake-up call. They soon arrived at an inconspicuous clearing behind some trees, not far from the river's edge (which is more accurately to say not far from the huge, fearsome, sheer cliff drop into the river).

The hot engine cut off, but continued to hiss and pop for a few seconds afterward. The thing had been all the way from Empire City, through Central City, across the bridge to South Island, through Gigalopolis, through Yellow Desert, through the long tunnel cut through the Marble Mountains, and finally to its resting place. In terms of long-haul drives, it wasn't an immense one, but it was hours' worth, and the tension only really eased once they got out of the UF, and away from the military that had choppers flying everywhere, searching for them.

The side door slid open; Rock stepped out, stood straight, rolled his head on his shoulders, and stretched his wide-spread hands toward the cool sky, glad to have his feet on the ground again.

"Rekk said he'd meet us here," recapped the monkey for anyone who might not have been listening during some earlier discussion. "If you guys wanna stretch your legs, or go use some bushes, or whatever... well, we'll be here for a little while."

Sheffer had been completely drained of any energy or strength the moment he entered the van, the day having caught up with him quickly. But, the tension of escaping the searching military was too great to allow him to rest right away, having looked with tired eyes out the van's windows, biting his lip every time he saw a passing chopper. Eventually, when they finally exited Empire City's borders, he nodded off in his seat, and soon, a quiet snoring filled the close quarters of the van.

It took him a moment to realize where he was when the van passed over the significant bump hours later, blinking a few times to adjust to the darkness. With the crack of his neck and a gaping, drawn out yawn, he pushed himself unwillingly to his feet, flinching at his overall soreness. He half-walked, half-stumbled out of the van after the monkey, letting the cool air splash over his senses.

"So..." he began, interrupted by another yawn before continuing. "Meeting someone from GUN is supposed to be the brightest of plans right now? He might have gotten us into the base, but that $&!% hit the fan pretty fast too."

It seemed the very second the van metaphorically went kaput, its driver did the same, flopping back on her seat like a wet noodle with her eyes rolled up and tongue lolled out the side of her mouth (even adding a quiet 'blaauh' to confirm her untimely demise). And she stayed like that for a moment. It was a far more taxing task she'd been put up to than she'd thought it'd be, but she comforted herself knowing what she did was helping.

Ace, who had stayed half-awake through sheer willpower (and for the sake of keeping his driver company), rolled over like he was already growing foliage from being stuck in his chair so long, but managed to give Caz an approving pat on the arm. "Ya did good, kid," he managed in his patented 2 AM drawl. Her response was merely to roll back and flash a quick thumbs up (still wearing her dead-face).

Soon enough, they both made it outside, but Ace was the first one to answer Sheffer's doubts. "It's cool," he answered cooly enough, still not nearly awake enough to get very into things. "Rekk was a pal of Rock's way 'fore he was a GUN agent. Ain't that right, Rock?"

"He's not a GUN agent," corrected the primate with a tinge of tangible distaste for the misnomer. "He's the secretary of defense. Doesn't answer to anybody except the president."

He sauntered a ways into the grass, thumbs hanging from the waist of his trousers, and stopped, staring thoughtfully beyond the cliff's edge. "And yeah... yeah, we go back," he confirmed, then maybe half-jokingly added, "I like to think of'im as my... conscience. If my conscience was a blue cat-dude in an expensive suit, anyway."

Ace started smiling and nodding way before he even considered adding "...Right, right," to his response. Still not quite awake yet.

Long, though her day had indeed been, when the flashes and bangs ebbed into the dull, ambient noise of long-distance car travel, sleep was a far cry from the pinkest passenger's mind. For all the sound and movement she made, however, she may as well have nodded off; only the most astute observer may have caught the a glimpse of her unblinking troubled stare reflected in her window.

Wordlessly, she exited the van, making small, inconspicuous rotations of her head and joints, but ultimately, reverted back to her previous state of distant, silent inactivity until the conversation turned to their contact.

"Might not think it's all that cool when 'e flips his s**t over th' base gettin' the hell blown out'f it," cautioned Jam with a humorless grin.

"Exactly my point..." he muttered. "That explosion rivaled Yellow Desert's."

He sighed, rubbing his eyes a bit in an attempt to get his mind focused with the harrowing pressure of wanting rest.

"How long is he going to be, anyway?"

As Jam made her point, Rock scuffed his way slowly to the front of the van, turned around, and leaned against the front bumper. Sheffer's question elicited no more than an unhelpful and untelling "Unno" from the tired simian.

A low audible growl mixed with the sounds of metal creaking and groaning escaped the van as it's suspension was suddenly lifted of it's extra weight upon Tau departure from the vehicle. He hadn't spoken, or for that matter, moved one bit since entering the vehicle and would remain quiet as he moved away from the van to inspect his new surroundings eventually stopping a short distance away. He wasn't too interested in what the others had to say to one another ( But still listened regardless) and likely wouldn't respond unless otherwise directly addressed.

No sooner than the conversation began to die down, a black sedan coming from the other direction pulled behind the billboard into the same clearing, stopping there. The door opened and one person stepped out, before slamming the door. He was alone, it seemed.

Rekk immediately made a beeline for Rock, not even bothering to do so much as give a 'Hi' or an 'Ace, your hair looks stupid' before he opened up with, "Rock, I swear to God, I am going to kick your ass so hard, you are going to sneeze out my shoelaces!"

A beautiful start, no doubt. Unpredictable too.

Rock's brows slowly went up, but his expression stayed remarkably serene—not even forcibly so. He just smiled at the cat.

"Yeah, I'm good, bro," he replied jovially to the nonexistent greeting. "How 'bout you?"

As a remarkable contrast, Rekk looked like steam could seriously start shooting out of his ears at any moment. Rock's complete dodge of his initial anger only seemed to worsen this briefly before he let out a long aggravated sigh and ran his hand over his head, seemingly calming down at least a little.

"Well, G.U.N. is leaning on me and the president pretty gd hard to throw our full power at you guys and Rouge because, apparently you guys broke in specifically to torch their base and break that separatist out." He sighed. "Where the hell is Rouge, anyway?"

"Mm," sighed (or grunted) Rock, as if he had expected that spin on the story. He just shook his head, though. "Haven't made contact beyond makin' sure she survived the blast," he explained. "Didn't wanna have her using her phone and getting tracked or anything—not 'til we set the record straight, anyway."

Rock looked back at the cat, shifted around in his half-seated position on the bumper of the van, and lost any trace of flippant behavior in his face or voice. "Lemme just start by sayin' I take full personal responsibility for what happened," he stated solemnly. "You know that wasn't why I did it, though."

With arms crossed, Jam stood at a distance, looking sullenly aloof throughout most of Rekk's initial arrival on the scene, she at last stepped forward and spoke up with an expression as serious as plague.

"Rekk, you have bigger problems than what GUN wants you to do, right now. You need to be asking yourself what you and Towers intend to do if they can't be trusted."

Pausing just long enough to let that percolate, she concluded somewhat cryptically, "I think we're cramping the humans' style."

Caz was soon to follow behind the rest, namely taking refuge a bit off of Ace's side. Nothing to add, herself-- seeing Jam (of all people) act so straight-laced about something meant it was important.

"Oh, yeah," acknowledged Ace, as if suddenly reminded. "I think we might'a stumbled upon a dirty little secret or two down in the lower levels. I mean I shouldn't be the one to spill the beans, but... did you know anything about some kindaaaa... cloning facility or anything like that?"
